My husband and I went to Whiskey Kitchen tonight for the first time and we are thoroughly impressed! A few people I work with recommended WK so we figured we would give it a shot. The parking lot is laid out a little funky but that's beyond the restaurant's control. I had a glass of the Riesling (fantastic) and my husband had a beer. We both had burgers - I had the Whiskey burger, he had the Cali burger - both were excellent. They were cooked to perfection. Our waitress Court R. (Courtney?) was very attentive and friendly. There was another friendly gentleman walking around that also checked in on us but was also clearing tables - I would assume he was the manager. Omg. This place is easily one of the best places I've had in a long time in Va Beach. Don't judge what I had... Caesar salad was BY far the best one I've ever had in my life. I also ordered cauliflower bites and the pickle spears for appetizers and they were insanely good. Fiancé ordered the chicken pot pie and he ate every single bit of it. We also ordered the spring rolls for the table and everyone enjoyed those. Service was impeccable! It was extremely busy on the Saturday night that we came but our server never missed a beat. We ordered their red hummus appetizer and it came with cucumbers, pita bread, red pepper, olives, and garlic cloves. My husband ordered their cauliflower steak and a side of steak. The cauliflower steak is a vegetarian meal and is like half a cauliflower and dressed up with seasoning. It tastes amazing. Excellent upscale casual place near the oceanfront but without the throngs of tourists. Beautiful craft beers on tap, regularly rotated. I ate a soft pretzel that was the size of a frisbee, but much tastier. I've never sampled frisbees, but my cousin had several batches of tortillas that were used as them and they were not edible. They really could fly though. Ok, so...great parking, decent sized bar where you'd wouldn't be odd dining alone, and amazing service. I really like the feel, without being "beach" or hipster. I hate them. I hate them so much because on a 2 week cruise in the Caribbean where we got butler service 3x a day- I was craving their fried pickles. I'm also a fan of their salmon because their chef knows the art of cooking fish and it's also obvious they pay more for quality whereas other places (Coopers Hawk) have the nerve to put over cooked, ill prepared, cheap salmon in front of you. Wow. I can not believe this place is rated so high. It must be a huge amount of drunk people eating or we just got the WORST night in the history of this restaurant being open. We went out to get away from the something in the water festival and and gone to a bunch of different places over near here. Not many of them are any good. Jose tequila was just blah etc etc. We had seen the reviews of this place and thought it looked good and with a cool vibe. We drove up and it had a nice little outside area. But only 4 tables out there. So we go inside and BAM! It's loud as sh*t. I mean SUPER loud. We are seated quickly and our server takes or drink orders. We knew we wanted the pretzels and beer cheese. So we ordered that at the same time. Now when it came out neither the cheese or the pretzel where hot. So I asked if they served it chilled. Just being a D bag. And she said she would get us another. The second one came out. No cheese mind you. FROZEN in the center. So the way they helped was servicing one that was colder than the first. At this point I was done but we had already ordered or food. Bland was the best choice of words I had the cauliflower Marsala and it was tough and tasteless and of course cold. my wife's was hot at lest. Some got some chicken mushrooms thing that was ok. I heard good things about this place so I decided to check it out as I love whiskey and anything associated with it. The vibe of this place is nice. It's calm and relaxing. Kind of a sports bar but without the dark load feeling. The food is vegetarian friendly but also meat eater dream with the menu choices. I had the beet wrap. It's didn't sound appealing but was yummy with the white cheesy corn that reminded me of White Mac and Cheese (but corn). The most important part was the drinks were very good. Plenty of choices of not just whiskey but also Vodka and tequila. He prices are reasonable. Our meal for 2 drinks and 2 entrees with sides were about $50. Told the waitress she was like I will have them make you a new one she brought it out and it was frozen. No new cheese same old cold cheese. She never refilled my drink at all. It was awful old in there. Then they brought out the main courses whip her were dry and tasteless. Not at all impressed would not waste my money again. Hot papa johns later. I rated it excellent for the $19 cost. Well worth it. Happy hour is 5 - 7pm with $2 off wines, beers, and well drinks. My lovely wife opted for a couple wines and the Citrus Salmon Salad. We arrived for a late lunch/early dinner after Adventure Park, so trying to respect the people around us, we grabbed a table outside since we were exhausted and sweaty from the ropes course. This has sat in my bookmarks (collections now, ugh) for so long, so I'm excited to finally whip up a review for this place! Everything on the menu looked delicious since we were freaking staarving, especially me- not eating enough breakfast to tackle the more challenging course I did & being the potato of the group (since everyone works out religiously lol). We arrived during happy hour, so we ordered some house wines. The merlot was was excellent, but the table enjoyed their riesling. My other friend ordered a whiskey sour and seemed to down that beverage fairly quickly for someone trying to avoid alcohol all weekend. We all ordered the peach-mango sangria, and it was delicious but the mango vodka was too strong. Vodka isn't my friend anymore, ): All the appetizers were freaking amazing. Parmesan cauliflower bites are a healthier, veg-friendly option; however, the breading probably takes away from the low-carb option. Imagine a deconstructed cauliflower-crust pizza. It was freaking amazing, in my opinion. My friend ordered a boneless buffalo wings, and they were delicious. Not enough spice-level in my opinion, but if wings were too spicy without warning, I suppose no one would order them. My boyfriend shared his KBBQ ribs app with the table, and that was definitely the table favorite! They were tender but not turning into pulled pork hanging onto the bone. They were seasoned all the way through. That KBBQ sauce was amazing. My friend ordered a gluten-free crust veggie pizza and loved her orders from starters to entrees. Unfortunately, we all ordered burgers with sides and didn't really quite rave about them as the appetizers we shared at the table. The burgers are gigantic, so it's a shareable portion if you don't eat a lot. The meat was also cooked correctly to the temperature ordered. I ordered a California burger because avocados in food is low-key an insta-order item for me. The burger was okay. Perhaps the aioli wasn't enough for a special flavor factor. I think I wanted more pico with mine too. It just wasn't perfect. My boyfriend and his friend were also just okay with their orders. Normally they eat a lot so seeing leftovers was shocking. Our fries were barely seasoned- both regular and sweet potato fries. The vegetables- zucchini and squash were cooked in oil and had zero salt and pepper on it. The veggies took on the oil taste, and it wasn't good. Our pescatarian friend couldn't eat it. The sides missed 100%, and now I might just stick to ordering appetizers. Perhaps the burger game wasn't on point that day, ): Our server was excellent and severely accommodating. She was incredibly personable and seriously patient with our indecisiveness. She also let us know about happy hour. Even though our entrees were on the so-so side, her immaculate service kept this place at 4 stars.
