This was my second visit to Wild Chive. I had not been in a couple years. I was impressed with my meal on the first visit, but not so much this time. I ordered the "chicken " sandwich, which was ok, but I thought the texture of the "chicken " was a little strange. I had the fries with the sandwich, and they were WAY too salty. It was between the Wafflito and the Wendy's Breakfast Skillet. I ended up ordering the Wafflito. Man! That meal is like 2 separate meals. You get a waffle, tofu scramble, and chili topped with sour cream and avocados. The waffle is a cornbread battered waffle, and when I tell you it is so good..my oh my! I never had tofu scramble so I didn't know what to expect. I took a bite, and was like "ok, this is pretty good!" Y'all! For a Vegan restaurant, this place is actually pretty good! I only say that because I am not vegan lol My husband has been wanting to come for weeks and we finally came out and when I asked for cheesy eggs for the kiddos because that's their usual breakfast request they replied with everything is vegan lol (completely our fault for not doing our research) so we switched up our order and ordered the kiddos some pancakes with fruit and they loved it, definitely a good day for them! I tried their pancakes and ended up ordering one of my own, very delicious! We also ordered the chicken and French toast and the French toast was really good, it had a caramelized cinnamon taste to it and we also ordered the BLT and some zucchini fries which were all very good as well. Feels weird to leave a not stellar review compared to all these very complimentary review, but I can't pretend my experience is something it wasn't. I came to The Wild Chive at 10:30AM Thursday after a plan in the area fell through and I was looking for a good nearby breakfast. First off, this is possibly the worst time to come here when it comes to parking. There was street sweeping from 10-12PM on half the blocks around, so I was really hard-pressed to find a spot, to the point that I was about to throw in the towel and go somewhere else when I randomly came upon one a couple blocks away. Lucky me! I got the Southern Fried Chick'n sammie for $15 with fries subbed for the usual side salad for $2, plus a chipotle aioli for $1. I have a few thoughts on the pricing. Obviously $15 is pricey for a sandwich. Considering inflation and the premium vegan ingredients, I get it. However, I don't think it was fair to ask for $2 more for fries. Typically, fries, chips or whatever will be the default side to come with a sandwich or burger at any given restaurant. I feel like most places will give you the option to choose from these different types of sides for the same included price, maybe an up-charge for something like onion rings or sweet potato fries... but not some normal fries. As for the sauce, I wasn't told it would be extra till I got the bill. It was decent though. As for the sandwich itself.. it didn't taste like much to me. Not to say it was bad, just surprisingly bland. I've had vegan chicken sandwiches I've quite enjoyed so I'm not sure it's just my taste buds. The bacon was also tasteless and a bit rubbery. The fries were ok. I don't think they were seasoned at all. So again, pretty bland without the sauce I asked for. All in all, it wasn't a bad meal by any means, just not an absolutely stellar experience like so many people have had here. read more

Overall, a disappointing and stressful experience. I have been a Vegan for many years and was very excited to try The Wild Chive. I love the sense of community in Long Beach, and as a Vegan I'm always on the lookout for new exciting and surprising places. I was nonetheless very disappointed. The menu was very limited, but then what was actually available to order was even less, as a lot of items couldn't actually be ordered. I was with a party of four, and our dishes did not come at the same time, and the sides didn't even come at the same time as the meal. The food was not worth the long wait, nor the price tag. It was over cooked and greasy, and didn't look very good. It was very messy to eat and crumbled out of our hands and utensils. The taste was drawn in too much sauce it was hard to know what you were actually eating. My non-Vegan friends didn't finish their plates because they said it tasted like cardboard, and I couldn't honestly defend the meal, since I thought the same myself. The music was so loud we couldn't hear ourselves talk, and the service was less than efficient. It was impossible to get a waiter's attention, even for water, or a coffee refill. Even though I did not like the food, it's the service that disappointed me the most. In a neighborhood so friendly, with so many nice experiences, it felt like the staff at Wild Chive was trying its best to make you feel ignored. One of my new favorite vegan spots, and it only took a few items to sell me! I've been eyeing The Wild Chive when they had their pop-up at Made, but I never had a chance to visit. When I saw that they opened a brick and mortar in Belmont Heights in the midst of the pandemic, I had to check it out. The Chive "BLT" is my favorite, and what will keep me coming back for more! I'm not sure what the "bacon" is but it is nicely seasoned, and though it doesn't have the texture of real bacon, I could be fooled that it's really good turkey bacon. They should actually call it BLAT, with nearly a whole avocado they add in here! The roasted tomatoes are sweet and a lot like sun-dried tomatoes. Instead of lettuce, they use fresh arugula, so perhaps, it should be called BAAT! The cheese is perfectly melted on a buttery, grilled potato Texas toast with a tangy, roasted garlic-chive aioli to make your tastebuds dance! The Stuffed French Toast is another highlight. Between their caramelized potato Texas toast, is a heavenly mix of fresh strawberries, banana and their house-made chocolate-hazelnut spread. To top it off, coconut whip, toasted almonds and powdered sugar! I could eat this everyday with coffee!! Chick'n & Waffles: Not sure what the chick'n really was, but it is beer-battered, seasoned and shaped like fried chicken nuggets. The waffles are Belgian-style and made of cornmeal, so it is on the denser side, but still fluffy. I did not add the chive butter, strawberry-habanero jam or maple syrup. Monte Christo: Grilled cheese and "ham" in their caramelizad potato French toast with strawberry jam, maple syrup and powdered sugar. These sweeter ingredients overpowered, making this sandwich odd-tasting with the savory "ham" and cheese. French Quarter Beignets: $9 for 4 pieces of fried, soft and doughy bread with powdered sugar on top. These were so scrumptious and not greasy at all. I might even dare say they're better than Cafe du Mondé's! Vegan Vietnamese Iced Coffee: They use Cafe du Mondé coffee, but I was not a fan. It tasted old and powdery, making it difficult to drink. Not sure if it was the particular brew that day, but I didn't want to get it again. Agua Fresca: Second time around, I got the fresh watermelon juice and it was so refreshing! No sugar added and needed! The place itself is modern and open. I wouldn't mind dining here when we can! Welcoming, friendly and quick service too! read more

I had been to trendy vegan restaurants before and was worried about this one, but damn, so good! My Chik'n and Waffles was a mind-blowing experiencing. Waffles were crisp and full of earthly grain flavor, almost like polenta but crispy. They were served with habanero strawberry jam, whipped "butter" and maple syrup, but also had 4 pieces of completely realistic fried Chik'n. I was very, very happy and very full.
