Today was my 2nd visit to The Wild Chive and I have mixed feelings about it. On the one hand I really like the interior decor and artsy atmosphere... definitely cool vibes. However, the thing that annoyed me today is that they were completely out of 3 items I wanted to order. I mean the menu isn't even that extensive to be out of that many things. On my first visit they were out of one of the items I wanted as well. That's my biggest pet peeve about this place. Food: On our first visit we ordered the monte Cristo, stuffed French toast, and fried pickles. We were overall underwhelmed with the food during this visit but we decided to give the restaurant another shot today and order different items. Today we ordered the BLT (delicious) and the chick'n and waffles (very good). The waffles are cornbread waffles and has such a unique taste that almost reminds me of a hush puppy. If you go here I would definitely decide to order one of these two items (if they are not out...*side eye). Also, don't expect to get the Mac and cheese from the previous reviews, because it's no longer on the menu. Service: No complaints here service wise. Staff was friendly on both occasions. Expect a wait if you go on the weekend, however they will text you your table is ready so you can explore the area or wait in your car if you want. STEPH JUDGEMENT: Amazingly tasty vegan food, good for breakfast or lunch. I was so happy to see this permanent brick and mortar version of The Wild Chive go up in my neighborhood a few years ago! They had the misfortune of opening right around the beginning of the pandemic, but I'm so glad they've managed to not only hang on, but to thrive. The restaurant is spacious, clean, and modern (but not sterile), with a nice little sidewalk patio as well. I usually get stuff to go, but I've dined in as well and the service is always great. I've tried quite a few items on their menu, but the ones I keep coming back to are the BLT and Breakfast in Bread--consistently good. My friends came over to chill out on my deck to enjoy some peaceful beach vibes. I was surprised when they brought lunch. They are vegans and the selected the Monte Cristo sandwich and vegan fries. The meat was vegan ham and it taste pretty delicious as it had a smoother texture then regular hand. This place is outstanding! My friend is a Vegan and so we decided to try this restaurant on a random Saturday. At first, we were a bit nervous if we were going to get a seat or not because it looked pretty busy in this Saturday. We didn't have reservations, but the hostess say that she would be able to accommodate us. Note**Make sure you make reservations especially on the weekend. We ordered our food and we were amazed! We ordered Breakfast in Bread, Country Breakfast, Vietnamese Iced Coffee and the French Quarter Beignets. All the food were delicious! Wow... the chef of this restaurant really knows their flavor profiles. This has got to be the best food I've ever had in a restaurant since I went vegan. We got their French toast as a side (AMAZING!!!), BLT (really savory and had a lot of depth of flavor), and the country scramble (so filling and good!). I used to buy The Wild Chive's food when they are selling in pop up tents and once at a pop up at Portfolio Coffee House. The chef is pretty creative and the food has improved. My favorites at this visit were the Breakfast Banh Mi and Stuffed French Toast. The Banh Mi is a bit spicy due to the chili inside. The Stuffed French Toast is very good, filled with housemade Nutella type paste, fruits, and served with coco cream and maple syrup. Husband ordered the Wendy's Breakfast Skillet. The tofu scramble, toast and gravy were yummy but the potatoes underneath it were salty. That's too bad, a little less salt would have been perfect. I still gave 5 stars because my dish was yummy. We shared the Stuffed French Toast as a dessert. The service was friendly and attentive. We would be back. The restaurant is very airy. Wife and I had a great time here! The food was on point! We had the pancakes and chicken & toast. The crunchy exterior was perfect on the chicken complementing the soft texture of the chicken inside. You can tell that every single plate going out of their kitchen is inspected for quality before going to the customer. Also ordered the Fine Feathers Sencha Guayusa kombucha which is Long Beach's best local brand of kombucha:) You'll want to have a reservation as the place fills quickly on the weekend. This was my second visit to Wild Chive. I had not been in a couple years. I was impressed with my meal on the first visit, but not so much this time. I ordered the "chicken " sandwich, which was ok, but I thought the texture of the "chicken " was a little strange. I had the fries with the sandwich, and they were WAY too salty. I had read a review mentioning this, and it was totally right. Unfortunately, not much else on the menu appealed to me. Hopefully, they'll bring back some discontinued items. It's not really busy at the moment only about 4 couples eating and we just ordered the burrizo and shroom burger and its been about ten minutes and its being brought to our table. Lovely timing since we are in a rush! I took a bite of the burger and instantly wished I ordered this instead of my burrizo! The burger has a soy mushroomy meatiness that's passable for a decent filling burger due to the umami of the shrooms the price point is kind of crazy for no meat on the product though and level of flavor profile. Lovely profit margins for them but perhaps a bit limiting for your typical consumer. As we all know my reviews are based on quality and the amount you get for what you pay for. The burrizo on the other hand was homely as I'm biased because I make these all the time at home and it just basically tastes like I made it which isn't bad but isn't great especially at the price point because I could feed a group of ten people these burrizos for the same price as this one. I feel it needs to be a little less mushed together and needs to rely more on its individual components, layered, and seasoned with something that overcomes the store rizo taste and compliments it like fennel or anise rather than being mashed because the soyrizo I buy from the store like this is overpowering everything which has a decent processed taste but eventually after eating half of the burrizo I was over it flavor wise. It was more filling than the burger though but lacked the memorable umami smack the burger had. I ordered the chicken and waffles and I was hooked! It was filling, hearty, flavorful, with a little sweetness- what you'd expect from chicken and waffles. I don't know if they use corn flour or what- but the waffles aren't made with regular white flour so it taste it bit grainy instead of fluffy. Still, really good. Loved the wild chive! You do have to look for parking but I promise it's worth the trouble. I came here based on a recco from a friend since they completely vegetarian/vegan. The waiter was super helpful in deciding what we would order because everything sounded so good. My partner got the chick'n and waffles. The waffle is a cornbread waffle, so not super sweet. I got the souther fried chick'n Sammie and it was good, but I wasn't a huge fan of the vegan bacon (tasted salty and like bacon I suppose - it's been a while since I had real bacon, too). Finally understand why they always have long lines when I pass by. Cozy and colorful decor with an open feel due to the sliding side window. We shared the chicken and waffles and blt. The chicken and waffles were delicious. My bf who is not vegan loved the flavors and was pleasantly surprised about how great the chicken was. The blt was equally delicious. Each bite was so filling and flavorful. I couldn't even finish the second half. Staff was so accommodating too. Amazing vegan brunch! I made a reservation online last night and they held a table and were able to seat my party immediately. I noticed a couple before me were told it would be around a 20-25 minute wait for a table for 2 (Wednesday around 11am). The wait staff was extremely attentive and checked in several times throughout our visit. We each had an OJ mimosa and shared the tater tots (aioli was so amazing). Next time I'd probably try their Vietnamese Coffee since mimosas aren't bottomless or anything. I got the stuffed French toast - tasty, sweet, and fresh! My friend got the Chive BLT and side salad. I did NOT know vegan food could ever taste this good. My friend is a vegetarian and I am a proud carnivore so of course we decided to meet in the middle and choose vegan. We ordered The Shroom City burger which was ground up mushroom mushed into a patty with so much flavor and sauces. The "bacon" was so crispy. I had envisioned something else but this was better than what I was imaginging! We got this with fries and they were so worth upgrading from a salad because they were so crispy and filling. We also ordered the Fried Chick'n Sammie. I don't know how they made the chicken taste so much like real chicken. Again the sauces on this were incredible. This came with their garden salad which was pretty basic but the dressing was lemon vinagrette and it was good! Our server told us their most popular dish was The Big Cheez so we had to get that. I have never had mac n cheese that I liked probably because it's usually made with real cheese. This is DELICOUS. So different and flavorful. For dessert we got the Chef Beignets. It reminded both my friend and I thought of Knotts Berry Farm literally with their raspberry sauce.
