A good friend brought me here after experiencing the place for herself. Once I stepped in, the smell of shellfish hit me right away and I loved it. I never had Crawfish before so I decided to get Combo A with the medium sauce. I also got some Cajun fries for the table. The fries were great but what I really loved was the sauce it came with. After getting a bib and some gloves, my combo arrived. One of the waitresses came as well and took the time to teach me how to eat Crawfish. After some practice, I had it down. Can't say I'm a huge fan of Crawfish but at least I tried it! I'll probably do the crab next time. The shrimps were my favorite part, they were so meaty and the work of peeling them felt rewarding. Came here with a friend on a weekday during the early evening for dinner. made reservations but the place wasn't busy so we didn't have to wait. This place is great for large groups, for seafood lovers, and if you're looking for a very interactive, somewhat unique eating experience. We ordered a mojito and their passion fruit lemonade to start ($12 each). I highly recommend both. For sides and mains, we got the catfish sliders ($15 comes in threes), soft shell crab basket ($15 comes with Cajun fries) and the crawfish & shrimp combo with o'bay sauce ($36 comes with one corn and potatoes). Before eating, the waiter equips you with your tools for survival: a lobstah bib and gloves. But you can also go commando if you're a risk taker. You can ask for a seafood cracker if needed. Everything came quickly except for the seafood which took a little longer probably. The catfish slider was surprisingly juicy. Nothing spectacular but good. The soft crab with fries were delicious but the portion was disappointing. You only get one crab cut in half. Also, our fries were nice and flavorful, not too spicy but a little soggy. Our favorite was the shrimp which isn't too difficult to peel. However, I would pass on the crawfish because there was barely any meat. As for the o'bay sauce, it had a nice light garlic and buttery taste to it. I would opt for the garlic sauce next time though for a much stronger flavorful and kick. The food left us full but not bloated. And if you can still fit more in your system, boba guys is next door! Service was good. I came here one night with my family for a family dinner. I had a great experience here and would definitely come back The ambiance is nice. I heard the other location is much smaller, so I was happy to have enough elbow room lol. The staff was super nice and welcoming. They made sure we got everything we needed and answered any questions we had. The food was amazing. For starters we ordered the Mac and Cheese and a few slices of garlic bread. The Mac and cheese was delicious. You could hardly go wrong with that and the garlic bread was everything. I'd gladly walk around with garlic breath for the rest of the night. For my entree I ordered a combo which consisted of a 1 lb of shrimp and 1 lb of crawfish. On the menu next to the crawfish it had an asterisk to note if it's in seasoned not. I asked the waitress and she explained to me that when the crawfish are in season, they are much bigger in size than when they are not. They're not in season at this moment so they were small. I got bibbed up and put my gloves on and went to work! It was so delicious and made me feel like I took a quick trip to New Orleans. Ordered a 17 item takeout order via website for Father's Day dinner. Food was delicious as expected, packed well and I especially appreciated the shrimp cocktail being packed with a bag of ice inside the container, and separate bag from hot food. Improvements for dealing with COVID-19 takeout arrangement: 1. Communication with order ready time. Per text update my order would be ready in 30 minutes but actually took 1 hour. I didn't mind the wait so much bc it was a large order and a nice day to be outside, but the folks manning the front should try to communicate a delay in expected time vs "your order isn't ready" after checking in 2-3 times. 2. Allow pre-order ahead of restaurant open time at 4pm. I wanted to time my order for a 4:45 pick up so I placed my order at 4:15. But I would've liked to have been able to preorder earlier in the day. 3. Include the bib, gloves and paper trays with takeout. It gives the diner a nicer experience dining at home. I was disappointed this wasn't in my takeout packages. Perhaps add as an option on the online menu/on phone as some folks may want this and some may not? Some restaurants also prepackaged the utensils, napkins etc in wax bags so it stays "clean/sterile". 4. Have clear signage and floor markers for where to wait for preorders, where to place orders and communicate that your order # or name will be called when the order is ready. When I walked up it wasn't clear who was waiting on line and who was congregating in the front of the restaurant to get to the counter. There really is no place like The Boil in NYC. It's a little spendy so we only go a few times a year, but it never fails to disappoint. I should say that now that you can make a reservation we go more often, because without one the lines can be crazy long. The concept is simple - you decide which fish you want (dungeness, snow and Alaskan king crab, lobster, crawfish, shrimp), how much of each, what flavors (lemon pepper, garlic butter, old bay, or a combination), and how spicy - and they bring it to you in boil bags and spread it out on the table for everyone to share. My sister recommended for me and my now husband to try out The Boil while we are on our honeymoon. I've been to a few boil places back home so I had a set standard on taste and costs before arriving. We went on a Tuesday evening for dinner and didn't have to wait. It's cash only which is surprising since it's not cheap to eat here. The service during our entire stay was great. Our bibs were tied on for us, shell bin was emptied often, and our server was attentive. Yesterday we ordered the chicken finger basket, Dungeness crab, and clams. My husband doesn't really eat seafood so the chicken fingers was more for him. The chicken fingers aren't really finger sized. They're two big chicken breast pieces that we have cut up. It was flavourful though. For the seafood I chose the boil flavour. Clams were huge compared to the ones at the boil restaurants back home. The Dungeness crab was a bit smaller than what I'm used to. Our bill came out to $68 USD before tip. It's more expensive compared to Canada where I can do AYCE at a boil restaurant for $35 CAD excluding the crab. read more

First time visiting. My Dad has been wanting to try this place and waited for me to come home from LA. He made reservations for three at 5p. A WISE IDEA! We were seated immediately. Service was impeccable. We had a young Asian server with blue hair and glasses (sorry can't remember her name). We ordered Crab cake (real crab, had no filler) she informed us it was just one but large enough for the three of us to get a good nibble. Catfish basket came with fries. Both were seasoned and savory. The fish was not from a frozen box. Also, the calamari, tender not chewy and cooked perfectly. It's not easy to find a good calamari. It even came with an olive tapenade, a new one for me. My parents and I opted for the "B" order Lobster + 1/2 crawfish but we were able to substitute the crawfish for shrimp instead, with an O'Bay and a Cajun sauce. Usually when I go to similar places like this the sauce is so salty and not very flavorful. Not at "The Boil." Our food was seasoned just right. I ordered a watermelon lemonade with Grey Goose (one of their specialty drinks) our waitress informed me that it is NOT a strong drink as an FYI. Which is good to know for those who like a strong drink. It was perfect. I could taste the premium vodka. It was slight as to not overpower the delicate watermelon. It was effective. We had our food wrapped to go in their special way of clearing the table. And we were off. The place was energized. All of the staff seamed alert and like they enjoyed their job. This is my 2nd time at this location (3rd time at the ​establishment) and I had a great time with great company. If you are coming on a busy night, please make rsvp or get there 2hrs before to get your name on the list. I came on a Friday, and we waited ~2hrs to eat. Although we past time at the bar with drinks and appetizers. There is an area by the bar that you can order and eat your meal at but apparently,​ that area also had a waitlist. That part didn't make any sense. A few people got up and as my party proceeded to seat, the bartender told us that we can't sit because another couple already reserved it. Like seriously? Reserving bar seats? Ok, I guess that's a thing now. We sat at the "other" end of the bar where you can only order drinks and appetizers. Drinks were good- Frenchman, Bayou and Hurricane were drinks had. I enjoyed the calamari, cajun fries and the garlic bread was delicious. Honestly,​ by the time we were done at the bar, we were sorta full and that coincided with use being seated at the table. We got 2lb of the snow crab legs, and another order of garlic butter. We looked around for another restaurant for a great seafood boil and came across The Boil! First red flag was it was completely empty on a Saturday night. The service was nice, bare minimum, definitely not worth the 20% gratuity they add to your bill! Finally, the food... $280 for two king crab boils with enough butter to give someone a heart attack. Let's get this Review train rolling into 2018! Yay! There is a new outpost of the Boil in the Village and it's a whole lot BiGGeR! A sheltered entrance with plenty of waiting room in front of the hostess stand and around the bar means you don't have to wait on the sidewalk like you would downtown on Chrystie St. We were even able to get street parking in front and saw plenty of free spaces around the block (after 6pm). Coming in for a pre-Christmas/Birthday dinner, we had our extended family of 14 people and they handled our group with no problems. With cousins, nieces & nephews in tow, the hostess brought us to our table after only a 10 minute wait. The antique nautical theme makes me feel like I'm in a Spongebob episode. I'm just waiting for Mr. Krabs and Larry the Lobster to be served up in a plastic bag in garlic lemon pepper sauce or Squidward deep-fried and served up in a boat with a slice of lemon. Cajun style seafood? I call it Casian (not caucasian) because it's like the other Boiling, Shaking and Angry Crabs opening up and down both coasts that Asians (and everybody) are flocking to. You don't wear your Sunday best to impress your date at the Boil (more about this later). You get your plastic bibs and gloves on because it gets messy in here. We started with Fried Oysters, which are always my jam. Complimented with Fried Calamari, Crab Cakes and Chicken Fingers (for the kids) just kept things rolling until the real food arrived. We ordered 2lbs each of Clams & Shrimp which bags you corn and potatoes, plus a whole Maine Lobster with a variety of garlic butter sauces with lemon pepper and Old Bay. Note that the shrimp come with heads on, so don't be squeamish as you see people sucking the orangey juice out of the necks. Make sure you dig around the bottoms of each bag to find that last shrimp or corn cob. Do get some rice to soak up some of that savory garlic sauce. You can scoop it up with the used clam shells. We topped all this off with 2lbs of Alaskan King Crab Legs naked, with Old Bay sauce on the side. This is a must get, though it is a lot of work, especially for me since I was cracking and extracting the succulent meat for everybody. However, I saved the best for myself, because the claw was HuGe! The shell was a tough nut to crack and when I got the shell cracker around the thing, shrapnel and juice flew all over! Later, I was picking shell pieces out of my sister's hair. The big reward was getting the claw meat out in one piece and slathering it in garlic butter sauce. Heaven. Note to self: next time bring some heavy duty kitchen shears, safety goggles and maybe a monkey wrench because those wimpy tools aren't cutting it. Once you're done making a mess, there are 2 slop sinks at the back of the dining room for clean up. Maybe they should consider a shower as well. The way back to the restrooms continues the maritime theme as you feel like you're walking down the passageway of a rust bucket freighter. Arrrgh! Over all, the service and the food that they offer at this location is pretty much on-par with the location in Chinatown. For starters, my party and I had the lobster roll which I highly recommend. The roll is jam-packed with lobster meat and is definitely worth it for the amount of meat you're getting. We also shared an order of gumbo. It wasn't the best gumbo I've ever had, but it'll do. When it was time to order, my party and I got into a debacle about which sauces to get with our seafood since some people wanted spicy and some didn't. We were all afraid that the spiciest level that they offered would be excruciatingly spicy, so we went with the second most spicy level...which wasn't even remotely spicy. Came to the Boil with a group of 10 for a birthday party and we had a great time! The decor is fun and eclectic, really playing up the whole Louisiana bayou vibe. I ordered the Chilly Margarita which was made with spicy tequila and jalapeños. It had a sort of strange aftertaste to be honest. I love a spicy marg so it wasn't he heat that bothered me but some other odd flavor. Not my favorite. We ordered for the entire table and shared family style. The land-lover options (chicken tenders, wings, garlic bread, Cajun style fries) were all solid. I thought the chicken wings were particularly juicy. I ordered the fried oysters for myself and they were a standout for me. Really massive, plump, flavorful oysters. They were so big I originally confused them for chicken tenders. Loved them. But the main attraction is obviously the crawfish boil. Now, in all fairness, this was my first time trying crawfish so I don't have a benchmark for them but, that being said, I really enjoyed the entire experience. The crawfish, crab, and shrimp were all tasty and the Boil Special Cajun Blend sauce was pretty kick ass. The restaurant provides bibs and latex gloves and thank god they do. I had ordered the crab and crawfish w/ fire seasoning sauce (very modest heat, not numbing), and cajun seasoning. Dude, hands down awesome. They do suggest making reservations through Open Table, but when you click on the link on the website, it brings you to Resy. OK. But I was wondering if we needed a rez at all because it was early on a weeknight. But why take chances if they are crowded? Anyway Resy (or The Boil) requires you to give them your credit card info to make a rez and said they'd charge $15pp for cancellations. I thought that was weird because the place was cash only, yet they make you leave your credit card info. I was going to say screw that, but didn't want to leave my co-workers in the lurch, so went ahead. Anyway, the place was empty. OK, live and learn. The waitress was nice but not very helpful as some of us weren't sure about what to order. There was no real customer-to-wait staff dialogue as in many other places. But I guess that's OK. So we ordered crab cakes with Cajun fries, and calamari for apps, 2 of us got drinks, and for the main I got a bag of dungeoness crablegs with shrimp in garlic butter sauce. Meal also came with potatoes and corn. There was some cayenne or other spice dusted on the corn and potatoes, but they were otherwise tasteless, and I usually love both. The crablegs and shrimp were OK, but I've had better at much cheaper places. The cocktail was good. Another minus is that they add 20% gratuity (which they call a hospitality fee) to your bill. Easily one of the best dinners that I've had in NYC and probably top ten ever. My girlfriend took me to The Boil for my birthday dinner, and the whole meal was mouth-watering: soft shell crab over Cajun fries for an appetizer, a 1.5 pound bag of crawfish and shrimp (best part of the meal), and a 1 pound bag of snow crab legs. Each bag was caked in a garlic chunk, melted butter, Cajun, Old Bay spice blend, also known as the House Blend, and served hot and ready to devour. The whole atmosphere was really fun, especially for the high quality of seafood. All the tables are draped in a brown paper table cover, the waiters dress each person in a large crab bib, and, most ingenious, blue gloves are provided to encourage all diners to eat straight out of the seafood bags. Came here for girls night with a group of 9 girls. Reservation made for Monday at 7pm way ahead of time so we didn't have any issues with wait times or reservations. The waiters were nice, they tie on your bibs and give you gloves. There is a big sink in the back to wash your hands before and after eating. I do have to say that my hands didn't drink much after eating. Partly due to the gloves and partly cause the soap they have is pretty strong and wiped off any seafood smell I had on my skin from making a mess eating haha. We split our orders by ordering separately for each 1/2 of the table. 1/2 of the girls are spicy and the other half went completely non spicy. I sat on the spicy side. We ordered 1 lb lobster and shrimp and 1lb crab and shrimp spicy, and then 1 lb buttery clams. I will have to say that everything was delicious, but the clams blew me away. Such big meat and the butter sauce is definitely my favorite over the spicy sauce. Not to say that the spicy sauce isn't good either haha. Each bag came with one piece of corn and some potatoes except the clam bag. We ordered extra potatoes and no one touched them lol. Too many potatoes! Other appetizers we got were Mac and cheese, fries, and mango salad. The mango salad was super refreshing - only wish we had that at the very end instead of the beginning so we could end our meal on a lighter note. I do wish they would give us bread so we can sop up all the sauce from the bag. If I were to come again, I would get all clams since the other stuff is too much work haha. Came out stinky and reeking of garlic but Soo tasty. 35$ per person after tax and tip, which was way less than we were expecting. This place falls under my top 3 favorite restaurants in New York! The staff are extremely chill and always provide good food recommendations. I love the ambience and the music they play here is mostly Rnb and hip hop! Now let's talk about the food. BOMB!! I usually order the 15lb shrimp with their famous homemade sauce (so flavorful) and ask for level 3 spicy. They have different spice levels and I'm so glad that their highest level of spicy (fire) is actually spicy! If you think hot Cheetos is spicy then the highest level is definitely not for you. Don't forget to order a side of corn (3 pieces in one order) and pasta. I usually just dump both of those sides in my bag of seafood so they mix in well with the sauce. Honestly this place is always a winner. I've visited this location a handful of times now and the food is just outstanding. The last visit the only downfalls were it taking forever to get seated when we had a reservation...we waited nearly 30-40 mins for a table. And while they wanted to give us a booth and asked if we wanted to wait a little bit, a 15 min wait period somehow turned into more than double. They did shoot us an app on the house which was appreciated but waiting that long was also super frustrating. The bartender was a bit disgruntled. He was complaining about every single drink order that came his way and it almost deterred me from wanting to order a drink at all out of fear he was going to shame me for my drink order, which is just ridiculous. Him swearing about customer's orders was really inappropriate to do in front of customers. The food though, man, that's why we come here. The quality of the seafood is incredible. Love me those crab legs, shrimp, clams and lobster. I mean it's a seafood feast here. And the sauces you get are incredible! I can't get over how damn tasty they are! Mmmmmm. Love! Cannot wait for another feast, just hope the little service elements get a tad better. Our waitress was friendly and helpful though, so front of house let's get timing together and bartender, don't get so worked up over things that are frankly not that big of a deal. Yikessss! I was so excited and craving a seafood boil... I wanna rave about this spot like I rave about seafood in general but I can't and I'd probably suggest you just make your own. I ordered "The Queen" that comes with 1 lb snow crab and crawfish boil firstly, it had no kick then, it was way too garlicky with no type of old bay flavor at all, had one piece of corn and one potato cut up, the crawfish aren't worth it, and one claw. Terrible a waste of your $50 for sure. I'm still burping up garlic as I type this hours later! My friend had the crab cake and garlic bread and that was pretty ok, very flavorful and the slaw with it was good @ $19 ($15 & $4). Customer service was a 7/10 had to wave down, very hands off so not "bad" but not attentive. This spot isn't it but I'm looking forward to finding a spot that is. read more

I wasn't impressed AT ALL. It was the Manhattan version of Joe's Crab Shack. I'd rather go to Joe's. With Joe's I get an ear of corn and a potato (and a sausage, but I always opt out of that). At The Boil, those same items are separate, and come with a cost. The atmosphere is nice. Much more upscale. But food-wise, portion-wise and quality-wise, I'm not impressed. Also, my friend and I sat at the bar. The bartender started out very nice. I felt he was a bit pushy asking if I wanted to order a drink. However, my friend ordered Mac & Cheese. It was "ok". The "garlic bread" we ordered was literally 2 hamburger rolls with a little garlic and butter. Honestly, I would not go back. read more
