This is one of those in between casual eatery restaurants where you stand in line to place your order and they bring you your meal. This place does not offer full service but does have alcohol. They lose major points because they do not give salsa with their chips. They do sell it for a $1 upcharge but I have tried it before and it's too bland. They do have a complimentary gimmicky hot sauce bar. The hot sauce bar with 12 sauces has only 1 sauce I can tolerate, the "Spank my a** and call me Sally" sauce which is a sweet chili which is okay but too sweet for anything other than for small doses. I'd much rather have a regular hot sauce and a better salsa. All their hot sauces taste funky and weird. I ended up having too much different kind of sauces combined with the queso cheese sauce and it made me sick. Queso cheese sauce is $2 and way too thick and over-seasoned. The steak tacos were very bland so they needed a decent sauce, but couldn't get one here. Tuesday's you can get 2 tacos chips and a drink for $5.50, normally they're $6.60 without a drink. I got 2 steak tacos for $7 with chips and took the extra $2 charge for queso cheese. However, green lemon and lime have this deal beat! I much prefer going to the Lime or Moes that gives bigger portions, free salsa, and marinate their meats better. For a full service legit sit down restaurant in Soho, I prefer the Green lemon which has $2 tacos on Taco Tuesday's and has better quality ingredients like Ahi tuna and marinated steak. This location has had quite the adventure. It was a Tijuana Flats under independent ownership and then it wasn't. I believe it was briefly another restaurant. And now it's back to the best - a franchised Tijuana Flats meaning you'll get just what you've come to love at other locations. This is perhaps far for us to drive under normal circumstances, but we were really impressed with how quiet this area is making the large covered patio out front a great place to eat and chat. Both my husband and I have our favorite items (soft tacos for him, hard tacos for me) but we saw a few amazing looking, cheese covered beauties go by and asked one of the staff "What are THOSE?". Answer being - their Chimis! I usually don't have much interested in deep fried things beyond fries, but these burritos were massive and then very quickly fried to give them a little crisp. Hubby got his smothered with cheese and I went with light shredded cheese and their salsa verde. We got ours with rice and beans and talk about a filling meal! I will never tip again here. It's already getting ridiculous with these fast casual places that ask for a tip. Here, I gave a generous $3 tip to my $10 order. It took an unreasonable amount of time to get my food, when I did, I realized I got chips and didn't have any salsa. So, I asked the young girl who delivered my food for a small side of salsa. She made me go back to the register to pay .99 cents for it. The food is great here! The service not so much, I placed a online order thinking it would be quicker for pick up. Well, I stood in front of the pick up register for about 5 minutes before I asked one of the other 3 cashiers if someone could assist me. I was then told the cashier would be right over. She did come right over but never acknowledged I was standing there waiting. She in fact collected print out orders and never looked up. Tonight I went for taco Tuesday and, considering they were having a special, there weren't too many customers there. When I went up to order my usual vegetarian bean tacos the lady had a really hard time understanding that I wanted both refried and black beans for some reason. She then had to go over my family's order twice before getting it right and then one of the orders still came out wrong. At that point we thought the whole thing was pretty much just comical and were too hungry to send it back. I am a HUGE fan of Americanized Mexican food over authentic Mexican so this place is one of my go tos. It also happens to be right across the street from where I live so picking up food from there is extremely easy and convenient due to the location. I always call ahead and order and the food is typically ready for pickup in about ten minutes. You can go straight to the to go line and skip the regular line which is helpful too. I always get the flautas. They are amazing! I also always get the queso. It's by far the best queso I have ever had and I put it on everything. I don't love the guac there, it's slightly spicy for my liking. Not the whole thing but there always seems to suddenly be a huge hint of jalapeño. Overall the staff are great, friendly, fast service. This is one of my favorite places. Oh and don't forget to try the "everyone's favorite sauce" from the sauce bar...to die for! read more

Tijuana Flats at this location is 50/50. Some days the food is good, and some days it's really bland (or runny refried beans). I love the chocolate flauntas and bowl. I've tried Uber Eats a few times with them and it is a gamble if they even get your order right. So far, it's been 2 out of 5 times. Either an item or two is missing, or the order they give to you is different. I remember one time I received chimichangas when I ordered their bowl. How? Don't know. Let me just start by saying I never write reviews but felt I had to this time. My husband and I have eaten at this location a number of times since it is down the street from where we live. This worker SNAPPED and replied "there are only two people working back here!" Alright lady, not our problem but thanks for letting us know. After another ten minutes, we finally receive our food. I mean we were waiting around for 40 minutes for 4 tacos! When we get home, we find that the order is wrong! She gave us two orders of chicken tacos with cheese. I am lactose intolerant and allergic. Okay, fine. It was a mistake so we decided to call. I told the lady that answered the phone that it was the wrong order. She snapped and said "well we only have two workers!" I'm assuming this is the same young lady that snapped at my husband because she yelled the same thing. Unacceptable! She proceeded to say "we'll just give you a refund anything else??" I said no and I asked for her name and she replied "Claire, anything else??" Wow. My husband and I decided to let it go but I went back today to place a to-go order. I asked the woman ringing me up for two tacos meat and no cheese to which she replied rudely "soooo, you just tortilla and meat???" I said "no I just don't want any cheese but I want everything else." She looks up at me miserable and says "that's what I asked you!" What. The. Heck?! Why are you so angry, woman!? Like, what is your problem girl?? Do you hate your Job THAT much? I asked for her name because I was curious to see if this was indeed the same rude and obnoxious Claire from last time. Sure enough, it was. I spoke to the manager and he said it was indeed busy that day (as if that's ever an excuse to yell at someone like that). Point of this is that employees should treat customers with mutual respect. If you are that miserable and hate your job that much, find another one and don't take it out on everyone else. Ordered for pick up online. We ordered the chicken and steak taco on wheat tortilla, combo of chips, salsa, queso, and guacamole. Also ordered the carnitas flautas. Extremely disappointed in the whole meal. The chips had salt and I guess it was pepper caked on a lot of the chips to where you had to pick out chips that weren't laden in salt and pepper. The tacos had very little flavor to the meat and the soft tortillas were hard. The flautas were way too greasy to even eat (even though it said "lightly fried"). Probably the best thing was the guacamole. Even the queso tasted cheap. Overall, not a good experience and wouldn't return again when you consider the meal was almost $40. I come to this Platt St location often for lunch. I have always enjoyed Tijuana Flats food; good quality meats and fresh toppings, chips with several dipping choices (creamy queso is my favorite), and a soda served with crushed ice that makes you feel like a kid eating a slushy. The hot sauce bar is one of a kind, with no less than 15 different kinds to sample from ranging from sweet to incredibly spicy. Prices in general are on the inexpensive side less than $10 a person, but I find myself going for the Taco Tuesday deal; 2 Tacos, Chips and a Drink for $5.99. Hard to beat that. This location in particular, has some of the best wait staff from a quick-service restaurant I've experienced. From the moment you walk in, someone is attentive to your customer needs. A manager is usually visible and frequently around to make sure everything is going well while coordinating the other staff for assistance. Orders are taken promptly and food is accurately prepared, whether dining in or taking out, even during the busier lunch rush. If you've never been to a Tijuana Flats, its definitely worth checking out if you are in the mood for an inexpensive american-Mexican experience. If you've ever been disappointed by one in the past, give this location a try and you might find yourself pleasantly surprised by how good it can be. read more

Today was my first time eating at Tijuana Flats and I must say that I loved the experience! I was greeted by friendly staff the minute I came in the door. I was was asked if I had been there before and the ordering process was explained to me and recommendations were made. I got the lime carne Asada street tacos recommended to me by the super friendly staff at the counter and by the girl that welcomed me as I came in. Service is great. You just sit down anywhere and they call your name when it's done and someone brings it out to you. The restaurant has a cool history! The best part was the hot sauce buffet which got the creator on the map to begin with. Incredible hot sauces for every pallet! Different levels of spiciness but also different ingredients and flavors! I got an habanero sauce that was incredible! Each sauce has a face icon depicting the level of possible discomfort kind of like in the ER when they want you to describe your pain! Most have happy faces but about a third like mine had a grimacing face or a face with x's for eyes! Hahahaa!
