Yummm. The best teriyaki chicken around. The habanero sauce is so good

This restaurant is in close proximity to AMC 30 Movie Theater. We tried previously to eat here & realized that they're closed on Sundays. So, finding ourselves in the area on another day of the week, we were able to try this simple food. My guys had the typical teriyaki chicken with rice. The chicken is tender and flavorful. But there's also nothing too awe-inspiring about it. But it's good, so that's still a win. I tried the spicy chicken which is pretty much a version of Orange Chicken that has a kick. It was good. It's an average quick place to eat so if you're okay with that assessment, give this place a try. read more

My friend and I used to eat at Flame Broiler for our Teriyaki fix but due to inconsistent meat quality and mediocre service we got tired of it and moved on to Yogi's. Yogi's was great until they started putting out frozen onions, ginger, and jalapenos and served us food growing fuzzy mold on it. Now we eat at Waba which honestly is pretty boring. It's consistent and the meat is good quality but it's missing something in the flavor department. Tikiyaki is far from my work. We have just enough time to drive here, eat, and get back to work. We came here last Friday in order to try the "Volcano shrimp" due to the fact it's a unique menu item I haven't seen anywhere else. Yogi's and Waba have shrimp bowls but they seem like a boring after thought. Here at Tikiyaki it's the star of the show. This bowl of heavenly delight was so good all we could do is talk about how good it was for the remainder of our work day. We were like two cackling hens clucking on and on about the perfectly cooked mountain of shrimp, the sweet yet slightly spicy sauce that's almost like a sweet & sour sauce, the brown rice cooked to the perfect texture,the fact there's no extra charge for brown rice, and the thick cut green onions. It was such a delicious meal. My friend and I enjoyed our meal so much on Friday we came back Monday to take advantage of the $5.55 lunch special. You get your choice of teriyaki grilled chicken veggie bowl or their version of an orange chicken bowl called "tropical chicken" and a 22oz fountain drink. White or brown rice. After ordering the teriyaki veggie bowl I assumed it was going to be a tiny skimpy bowl given the fact it's a very good price. What was brought out to us was a bowl overflowing into a heaping mound of chicken and veggies. There's no skimping on the protein here. It wasn't a ton of cabbage topped with skimpy chicken... no.... it was a shi*tload of chicken on top of a modest amount of cabbage, broccoli, carrots, and brown rice. Unlike waba's boring chicken that needs to be doused in sauce the chicken here was very flavorful on it's own and cooked perfectly. Not a single gristly piece to be found. The owner gave us as squeeze bottle of his habanero teriyaki sauce to try. I didn't find it spicy but I liked the habenero infused flavor making my taste buds happy. The owner Mark is a cool guy. He's funny and very friendly. I also like all the tiki themed art. Any place with a flaming tiki playing electric guitar has promise. Come on folks, give this place a shot. Advice: come hungry. The plates are gigantic in portion and you could easily feed two people with them. There were three of us and we all ordered something different so we could sort of do a table like buffet between all of us. If that wasn't already enough food, we partook in some side dishes as well. It truly was an obnoxious amount of food. What we had: - Volcano Shrimp: these were some pretty good sized shrimps in a bright red sauce. I asked how hot and the owner said it's more on the mild side. He wasn't joking, but let's you know you can punch up the heat upon request. Will definitely do so on the next visit. - Volcano Chicken: same as above but with a crispy outer layer. Think General Tsau chicken with a little bit of sweetness. - Teriyaki chicken and beef plate: a great amount of the meats with a light teriyaki sauce on top. I actually added some of their habanero teriyaki sauce that they have upon request and it definitely made it even more awesome. It was sweet but has a nice spicy kick to it. It wasn't too overwhelming, but I could feel a little nostril cleanse in the process. - Coconut shrimp: definitely tasted like coconut. I should have waited because this tropical seafood was excruciatingly hot. Worth it, and I'm glad I ordered it as a side versus an entree. - Tropical Orange Chicken: typical orange chicken with some pineapple chunks. It was sweet without being overbearing while keeping the citrusy notes in the flavor. All plates come with a generous serving of sticky rice and an egg roll. The prices are super reasonable and it seems like they get a lot of repeat customers. The owner was greeting everyone by name which was a nice touch. I'll definitely be back. In a small strip of shops across the village mall I found my new favorite spot for a chicken teriyaki bowl!!! Flame Broiler just a short walk away will no longer be an option!! I ordered a regular size teriyaki chicken veggie bowl! This bowl is $5.99 and comes with a regular size drink. The bowl with no veggies is the same price so might as well get it with veggies. It's a $1 more to add all white meat and green onions are optional. The bowl is a decent amount and I had leftovers. I loved how sticky the white rice was and soft. The broccoli, cabbage and carrots were steamed just right. Now for the chicken it was delicious. The pieces are cut into strips with the right grill. The corners were a bit crisp and the inner part juicy. The teriyaki sauce was delicious!! The egg rolls were crisp on the outside and soft veggies inside. They have different kinds of meats to choose from like orange chicken, beef, shrimp and spicy options!! You can order sides and plates which come with a salad. My bestie raved about this place to me so I had to try it. She said it was better than Flame Broiler, which I'm not a huge fan of so I was hoping for the best! We had a really big order for about 11 people that we called over the phone to pick up. Once we arrived the guy had our orders all ready and separated for us. He was super sweet and funny. You can tell he really takes pride in his business and customers. He provided all our sauces and utensils in the bags for us. I got the teriyaki chicken bowl with veggies and sticky rice. HELLO Tikiyaki or shall I say Tikiyummy! After seeing all the photos posted on Yelp I had to try the food for myself. In a little strip surrounded by six other stores lies Tikiyaki. I had no problem finding parking since the other businesses did not look too busy. I walked inside and was greeted by the man behind the counter. I was contemplating whether to get the bowl or plate. I chose the plate for $7.50 which is half teriyaki chicken and half beef. It comes with a side salad, brown or white rice and a vegetable eggroll. I also ordered a side of volcano shrimp. Dont forget there special sauce which is teriyaki combined with hot sauce. Super good sauce. Everything came out to under less then $11.00. Although I was the only person at the time, my order took about 15 minutes. I like my food fresh so I didnt mind the wait. Its a small little place which holds about 10 tables give or take. It was clean but decided to take my food to go. Got home and started eating away. The beef and chicken is A+. The sauce used to marinate the food was very flavorful. Meat was very tender, no chewy parts. Yay! As for volcano shrimp I wasnt to fond off. A little too much going on. Tikiyaki is a hundred times better then Flame Broiler. They were out of for sale-bottled waters, so the owner asked if we would like "room temperature water" perhaps from tap, uhm, "No thank you," was my reply to that. Opted for the fountain machine (tap) water. Requested brown rice and green onions with my teriyaki (white meat $1. extra) chicken plate and my husband ordered brown rice and green onions with his teriyaki steak plate. Also got a side of egg rolls and tropical orange chicken. Food was fresh, hot and pretty good. The only thing missing was the brown rice and green onions -__- I didn't even mention it until after killing 1/4 of my plate because the goodness distracted me. The owner said, "Oh why didn't you say something earlier?" I just wanted to see if he would check on us but he never did. Anyway, the steak was a 5 stars for sure. My white meat chicken though, kind of tough. Egg rolls good and the tropical orange chicken was typical orange chicken. The chicken is always a great pick. Tender and flavorful, not at all dry. Whatever is in that magic marinade is fantastic. However , when I tried the steak I was less impressed. It wasn't bad, but it certainly wasn't up to the same caliber as the chicken. Tad dry and not as flavorful. The sticky rice is different from Thai sticky rice because it isn't as sticky. I think the owner stated that it's Japanese sticky rice, unless I'm totally off lol Something that slightly takes away from this place is the wait. I believe I came at lunch so they had a rusH. I waited about 15min, which is slightly long for teriyaki but at least I know my chicken isn't raw. I met the owner and he's a cool dude. Okay I'm trying to get into good shape here so I yelp a place with to keep the carbs and sugars down while still eating something that's tolerable. Found it, drove to it and ate it. Guy at the register - 5 stars - Really helpful, extremely informational and funny. Good guy! Chicken and beef bowl - 5 stars - Both really fresh, really good quality meat and cooked to order. Brown rice - 5 stars - Most botch brown rice but theirs was a nice texture and still hydrated when most is dry and brittle like eating over sized sand granules. Sauce - 5 stars - Both the spicy teri sauce and the PJs Hurricane sauce were perfect. I put both and was seriously happy. Overall an experience you always look for but seldom receive. The coconut shrimp here made my day! If you are a fan of coconut you'll love these! Plump and juicy shrimp dipped in a coconut batter and deep fried. My nose could smell the aroma of warm coconut when I set my order on our table. The breading texture not too thick, crispy outside, slight coconutty breading taste when you take a bite. Just 12 minute drive on side streets (note during non commute hours before 3pm because after that who knows!). Kind of easy to find from a tourist POV. It's in a small strip mall. Your visual cue would be the Famous Daves in the shopping center on the opposite side of the street. Service/Ambiance - Just your average small hole in the wall place. Casual, clean. Small dining area just a few tables and chairs, and patio tables outdoors. The place was busy with customers coming in and out the whole time we were there. Everyone seemed to know the guy working the front, who was the owner. Who which by the way was super friendly. Knew the minute we walked in the door that I was from out of town. (The Disneyland sweatshirt must've been the dead giveaway??) He asked us where we were from and we said Vegas! Made small talk and he welcomed us and said drinks and an appetizer was on him!! Owner followed up on our order and we told him he needs to come out to our neck of the woods, to which a bunch of customers said no way, you're not taking him away from here. Really horrible service! Not sure why people gave this place so many stars! Walked in and literally was not acknowledged/helped for a good 5 minutes. The cook in the back just stared at me without even attempting to greet me and say someone would be helping me soon. Stood for another minute and contemplated just walking out and then the guy who's been hiding behind the counter the entire time just walks up to the register with attitude and says "are you ready?" Seriously? No apology? I really don't get it? You're in the business to get customers right? Don't really care if other Yelpers gave you high marks for food. I won't be coming back. We came here specifically to try the Volcano Shrimp bowl. For $6.99 you do get a really good amount of medium sized shrimp, and the shrimp are perfectly cooked, but the sauce. OMG the sauce is just SO sweet. It's drowned in the sauce and it's not even the littlest bit spicy. I think it would be better if you reduced the amount of sauce or served it on the side, and added in some steamed veggies for this bowl. On a good note though, the brown rice was cooked well, not too hard, not too soft. We also got the steak and veggie bowl. This was $6.49 and you also get a decent amount of steak, but many of the pieces were grizzly and chewy. There were some good tender pieces in there, but not enough to make me over look the grizzle. This was served with no sauce, and you can put on teriyaki, habanero teriyaki, or hot sauce. The habanero sauce actually had a nice kick to it. But really I don't think it needs sauce, as the steak is already marinated in a sweet sauce before cooking. I just couldn't stop thinking about how many grams of sugar I was consuming between this and the Volcano shrimp. But then there was also the coconut shrimp side order! Four large pieces, again cooked perfectly, for $4.49, but the sweet and sour dipping sauce was practically a sugar glaze with a drop of vinegar. I know I"m not into sweets. I don't have a sweet tooth and I don't eat desserts, so naturally I don't want my entrees to taste like desserts either. I fear people think this is some type of healthy food bc of the brown rice and grilled meats and steamed veggies, but all that sauce on it is not healthy. read more

Yes this place can be compared to flame broiler BUT I think it tastes much better. I had a steak bowl with veggies and sticky rice, the steak was tender and the rice was flavorful. While we were there two people were in there eating and a few people walked in and they all knew the owner and he knew them on first name basis, that to me is impressive and shows this place is that good. This place is definitely healthy and I'll be back ready to try something different. Also don't forget to try the habanero teriyaki sauce. read more
