Hubby and I were in the mood for a 'date lunch' and I offered three ideas. He picked this one and boy, was it a winner! Walked in, ordered at the counter, got our drinks and they brought the food rather quickly. I was going to go w/chicken salad, but hubby proclaimed that 'boring', so I opted for 1/2 of the John Wayne panini and a cup of the tomato bisque. The soup was piping hot, with chunks of tomatoes and a creamy consistency...very good. The John Wayne had plenty of ham, turkey and pastrami, and was adorned with lettuce, tomato, red onion and chipotle mayo. It came in a basket with potato sticks (flashback to my childhood) and a really good little tiny chocolate chip cookie. Hubby ordered The Alamo panini, which was stuffed with grilled chicken, mozzarella cheese, chives, tomatoes, sun-dried tomatoes, avocado and chipotle mayo. His was also served in a basket with potato sticks and the cookie. He said it was one of the best paninis he'd ever had. I added a slice of coconut cream pie, which he doesn't normally like. One fork please, to penalize him for the 'boring' crack about my first choice of chicken salad. Overall, he is NOT a fan of coconut, but on two occasions (by my official count) I had to wrest my fork from his sweaty little hand! The cashier heard our banter about the 'boring' chicken salad and she laughed and said 'Don't be judgy, it's not boring....it's made with chipotle mayo'. She was fun, professional and very personable. She also mentioned I could just get a scoop of chicken salad for about $3.50 or I could do the 1/2 sandwich and 1/2 salad and chicken salad could be the salad. Filed that little tidbit away for next time. Drinks included five different kinds of freshly made iced tea. The atmosphere is casual, comfortable and it almost was like hanging out with old friends after school. They have two smaller rooms in back that might be good for larger parties or club meetings. They also cater and hubby and I have put this gem on our regular rotation! Thanks YELP for providing copies of the menu, food pics and excellent advice, as always. The Tin Cup is an awesome hole in the wall sandwich and sides shop off the beaten path a few blocks south of the Tom Landry Freeway in Arlington, TX. Do you love sandwiches that are made exclusively with Boars Head meats and cheeses? Do you love side dishes, soups and desserts made from scratch daily using passed down family recipes? Do you like playing guitar while hanging upside down from a flying stunt plane? Ok, stunt aviation guitar playing may not be for everyone, but if you answered yes to at least two out of my three questions, the Tin Cup is for you. I will be the first to tell you it isn't much to look at from the outside, but inside you'll see it has tons of rustic frozen in time charm. I had the California Gold panini on focaccia bread and it was incredible. Top notch sandwich shops like this really make me question why there aren't more of them to take on the bland global chains we have on every other corner. Generous amount of meat and cheese, fresh bread and tasty avocado with a side of PikNik potato sticks (haven't had those since I was a kid!). We wanted to try the daily scratch made soup but it went quick and when they are out, they are out for the day. Dessert provided us with some of the best coconut cream pie and banana pudding we have EVER had. The banana pudding is a passed down family recipe from one of the chefs and the coconut cream pie was ordered to go, but was gone before we even rolled out of the parking lot. Can't say enough about this place. Service was great. Food was tasty. Price was reasonable. Roommate and I had lunch there on a Saturday. As someone else commented, the outside is not much to look at, but it's quaint and cute on the inside. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted warmly by one of the owners, who was helping behind the register. They made us feel welcome and eased us into our first experience. I ordered The Alamo, which was chicken, mozzarella, chives, tomato, sundried tomato, and avocado with chipotle mayo. I also got a side of tomato bisque. The main reason I ordered The Alamo was because of the sundried tomato... I was disappointed by how little of it there was as well as chicken. HOWEVER, I was satisfied overall. Although I would've preferred regular fries or chips rather than the potato sticks. As for the bisque, it was flavorful and the texture was really smooth and creamy. Loved it. Always drove past this place and said I was going to try it out and I finally did a few days ago! Obviously, being my first time there, the cashier gave my boyfriend and I a free tea on the house which I thought was super sweet of them to do. The cashier let us know what the most popular dishes were and was quick to answer questions. I didn't catch her name - but thank you again! Tucked away on Abram near what used to be a bustling Fort Worth Star-Telegram office -- note the irony of writing a review of it on Yelp and it being by an old newspaper office -- Tin Cup is just a good local joint. it is obviously a low budget establishment sans soda machine, any noticeable kitchen and menus obviously printed by the printer next door, but all that makes the charm of the place. I had the High Noon, a grilled pannini stuffed with pastrami, cheese, jalapenos, tomato and a chipotle mayo. It came with potato sticks and a mini cookie for a great deal at $6.95. The wife always gets a ham sandwich on a croissant with cheese and digs it. They use Boars Head Meats so you can't go wrong. The customer service is great, it seems to be a bunch of UTA kids working their way through school and they're all friendly and helpful. The owner even seemed to be there today and he was super interested in what we thought of the food. Nice to see a business that cares about their customers. Me and my lady went during lunch and from the moment you enter you can feel a very home atmosphere. After reading reviews I ordered the John Wayne and she ordered the California Gold, along with two teas. And...it did not disappoint! The John Wayne was delicious with the pastrami and chipotle mayo standing out. The California Gold was fresh as well with the chicken and avocado. We also got potato sticks and a cookie which are extra points! We told Damon, the owner we heard nothing but good things and he was very friendly. During our meal one of the workers stopped by and asked if we would like some coconut creme pie on the house and how could we resist. It was amazing and definitely recommend it.
