This place needs improvements. Came here for breakfast with my girlfriend on a Monday. First of all, the coffee tasted old/recycled. I understand not wanting to waste coffee but come on, your customers can tell. Second, my omelette came out lukewarm and it seemed like my girlfriend's French toast was set on the grill for about 2.5 seconds. It was a little firm and had a funny sweet taste to it. Third, the $7.00 orange juice was mostly pulp. Fourth, the service was strange. She seemed very nice but was also awkward and took a while to give us our drinks. I'm not sure if she was weirded out by the fact that we're a gay couple, maybe she doesn't see it often? Not sure, but something was off. We wouldn't come back here. There are plenty of other great breakfast spots in the area. Sorry Toast! Put a little heart into this place and it could be great. read more

This is my fav spot in Sherman Oaks, and trust me, I take this food thing very seriously. First of all, the service is always fabulous. I come here a lot and it is always incredibly friendly, accommodating, and fast. The manager is also a very kind man who really appreciates the customers. The menu is very extensive, which usually throws me off, but everything is so tasty! I've had several things from every section of the menu and nothing has disappointed. They also give really great sized portions as well too, so you really get a great deal! They have some great Israeli dishes that they specialize in, and honestly, I have yet to find another spot who can rival them. They serve breakfast all day, have tons of vegan/vegetarian options, and they have the best desserts!!! Something for everyone! If you are in LA, must hit this spot AT LEAST once! read more

We enjoyed our breakfast outside on the front patio. I had La Fatut and my husband had the Shakshuka. Both came with salad. We both thought they were yummy, and we had plenty for leftovers! Service as great. My only complaint is flies kept landing on my feet and legs, and that drove me nuts. Not sure they can control that though. I came to Toast Cafe on a Sunday because their wait time is so much more reasonable than the surrounding brunch places in Sherman Oaks and Encino. They don't have a typical breakfast or brunch menu. I saw some pictures of waffles on Yelp but it's not on their menu when we went. The vegetarian omelette I order was good. The salad that came with it was also delicious. What I enjoyed the most was their toasted bread. It's quite unique and delicious. The star of the brunch though was the Israeli Shakshuka. It's eggs in this amazingly delicious tomato sauce. You must get the option with hummus. They give you pita bread on the side. The best way to eat it is to stuff the egg, tomato sauce, and hummus into the the pita and eat it that way. I went to Toast Cafe 2 weeks ago and I'm still craving the shakshuka. I will definitely be back soon for that. read more

Made with pesto, spinach and cream, it is super rich and filling, but absolutely delicious. (Could use a little acid--maybe Greek yogurt instead if cream?) Toast is also a great place for vegetarians. It's a kosher restaurant that sticks with a milk menu, so there's no meat to be found (just eggs and fish). This review is not for food but for costumer service provided by the management ( man with the long hair). My friend & I were walking past the restaurant & the wind blew the plastic curtain up that had a metal pole inside of it. The metal pole hit her in her near right eye. My other friend went inside to share with the employees about what just took place. The female server showed remorse & directed him to the manager who was seated at a table with a male. The friend explained to him what happened & he said " I am the manager my name is Yaron". The friend who was hit showed the mark near her eye & he said "if you're hurt go to the hospital." He didn't want to give his last name & was extremely insensitive. He never apologized & insisted that the curtain was fixed. He was very difficult to understand & was nonchalant about her injury. First off I like the fact that Toast Cafe is open until wee hours after midnight. Crave Cafe and even Happy Days Cafe is just overcrowded at certain times during the night. Second they allow you to work on your laptop while connected to their wifi network. But lets now get to the A-OK sense of things. The service just lacks momentum. We got seated right away but literally took 5-6 minutes to get acknowledged. The table in front of us was already impatient ( they were already seated there beforehand) and a gentleman of the group got up to look for the server. The menu was taped off with a lot of items missing. I believe this cafe was closed off for awhile and is now open again. However understanding this is a ' cafe' I'm not to keen on the prices for the value of the item itself. I ordered the hummus plate which had only 4 pieces of pita bread and a huge dosage of hummus on a large plate. I would have hoped for more bread and I would've been content with the 10.00 price. I also got a Toffee Caramel Frappe which was almost 8.00 and it literally was just a basic frozen iced drink; nothing to be amazed about. It took awhile for our items to arrive and just to note it was almost midnight at this point and not too busy.. Overhearing the table in front of us having issues with their order on a timely manner made me realize that the other reviews on this cafe were correct. So if youre looking for a cafe thats less crowded than Crave/Happy Days on Ventura Blvd thats also open super late? I've tried their Egg White Wrap and the Roasted Veggies Pizza. The Wrap was okay, but it was packed really well! It was huge; I was only able to finish half. I do wish it had more seasoning or something because it was a bit bland. The Pizza was yummy; however, it took FOREVER to come out. Maybe 35-40 minutes? It's not like the dough had to bake since it was on a tortilla. We were in a rush so if that dish took that long to come out, I wish they warned us ahead of time. It was so good, hearty and light. If something can be hearty and light at the same time! The coffee bar is also very good. All the specialty coffee drinks are available here. I also sampled the Israeli cheesecake, which is the best cheesecake I have ever eaten. Service was terrific, upbeat, informative waitstaff. My friends and I got the margarita pizza, fettucino alfredo pasta and the yogurt parfait. Everything else BUT the fettucine alfredo was good. The pasta had green onions and mushroom. The sauce was lacking and it was also very very bland. Had no seasoning at all. It was different from the fettucine alfredo that I usually get at other restaurants. We got three lemonade and I wanted a cup of iced water, but the server seemed to have forgotten about that after our food came out. Service was friendly and nice, but not quick at all. Also, in the middle of dining our server told us the food would be ready and we were confused as to whether we pick it up ourselves or if he'd bring it to us. No utensils were provided, so we had to pick them up at the counter (which I found weird). I would come back here again if I had to just because of the friendly service. And thank god this place wasn't packed because I'm not too familiar about this area and parking is horrible during busy hours.
