I brought my mom here for breakfast and enjoyed the meal we had. The breakfast potatoes were kind of hard but everything else tasted well. We have been working to find the best places to go for brunch on Sunday. Today we tried Toast located next to the new H-E-B at SH-6 and HWY 90. When you walk in you are welcomed with a nice atmosphere and a trendy decor great for summer. Yellow and white always goes together. The food selection was crazy, so many options to choose from. I had the Toast Breakfast which was ok at best. The plate comes with four pieces of toast and no jam. The one pancake had a char to the bottom and the cheese hash were ehhh. Get a fruit cup instead. My partner had the Vietnamese steak and eggs with a salad instead of fries. He thought they were ok, however I thought they left a disappointing curry after taste. We also tried the bacon donut which wasn't bad. The water was very nice and did a great job. If I had to give this a school grade, it would be a C+. This place was absurdly mediocre. Service was slow, it took quite some time to get our drinks and food out. Mind you, we went on a Monday morning when there were MAYBE 3/4 tables seated before us. The food was overhyped and average, but overpriced for what you'd expect. My friend asked for no onions on anything & then was served onions all over her salad. My first visit to Toast was for lunch and I was unsure what to try. I ordered their Club Sandwich with a side salad. From the very first bite of the Club sandwich, I knew I ordered the right thing. The ham was freshly grilled and had an excellent flavor along with the turkey, bacon and fresh veggies. The sandwich was generous with ingredients and was very tasty! The side salad was not just a bunch of greens with a nice vinaigrette, but had other fresh veggies to make it a great accompaniment. Upon seeing the menu, I was excited to try this place due to the Asian fusion inspired brunch items. My wife and I ordered 3 things and split everything. 1. Banh mi burger plus upgraded to bulgogi kimchi fries. The burger was ok, cooked well done and covered in a savory sweet sauce. The pickled carrots and cucumbers did not taste pickled at all, I pulled them out and tested without the rest of the burger. The spicy mayo was ok, but I feel like a more asian inspired dressing would have fit the bill, maybe the same mayo/butter used in authentic banh mi. The bun was soft and fresh. The kimchi/bulgogi fries were a disaster. We got 3 pieces of kimchi (yes, we counted), and the bulgogi was ok. Fries themselves were fresh, but the entire thing was lathered so heavily in hoisen sauce, you could not taste ANYTHING else. If you're familiar with hoisen, you know it's a very strong sauce. 2. Chilequiles - The dish was pretty good as a whole, my only complaint is that half of the chips were very stale. No crunch and chewy. Once everything got slathered in egg yolk and the sauces, the chips got soggy as intended and was the staleness was less noticeable. Very good portion size, plenty of pork. 3. Creme Brulee pancake - This thing was pretty sweet, but we ordered knowing that it would be. The Bavarian cream is good, there is torched sugar on top, and the pancake was fluffy. Pretty good. Overall, the concept is appealing, and the menu definitely caught my eye, but the balance and freshness of the food is off. I stumbled across this breakfast place five years ago, and I have personally witnessed this restaurant progress and get better over the years. The owners are actively there and very attentive to both how the staff interact with patrons and the quality of the food coming from the kitchen. As with any new restaurant the kinks need to be ironed out, but I can say that this is one off the best breakfast places in Houston I have been to. They are constantly updating the menu, to keep it fresh and inviting. I enjoy returning to see what new dishes they have added. For me there are many closer breakfast places but none have my preference like toast has. The restaurant decore is young, fresh and inviting, the walls and ceilings are decorated with a nature theme that gives the restaurant an aesthetically inviting ambience. The menu has classic breakfast choices as well as Vietnamese and Hispanic pops of flavor infused in their dishes and drinks. The owners always welcome me and recognize me along with many other patrons, they make this restaurant feel more like a family than a cold corporate cookie cutter restaurant type. I have seen this place become more and more popular over the years and the staff and menu continue to grow and mature. First impression: The area is actually really nice. When you walk in, the place is visually appealing. It reminded me of a nice diner, which I very much liked. I actually found out that this place is owned by the same people who own the Grove in Richmond! I use to go there all the time in high school. Service: The server was nice and friendly! She helped us pick exactly what we wanted, and when explained that I could customize my order with an up charge for the specialty pancake. The food came out pretty fast, and we didn't wait long to be seated at all. Food: If anyone knows me, they know that fruity pebbles has to be one of my favorite flavors! So I had to try out the pancakes here. They were moist and sweet, but it was pretty good! The sausage, eggs, and potatoes definitely were a big plus too! My family and I drove 40 minutes to Toast after hearing about their great service and delicious breakfast items. Although we felt welcomed, we waited 20 minutes for a table, not to mention there were already 2 tables that just needed to be cleaned off. The environment was somewhat loud but alive, but that should tell you how popular it is. Our visit came to a turn when we waited way longer than expected. We understood that this establishment was a busy one and were willing to wait. As we were seated for almost 20 minutes, most of the staff was simply standing around looking at everyone including us, meanwhile we were simply waiting for a server ask us for what we wanted to drink. No one ever came to help us which made us feel unwelcome after all. Sad to say that Toast didn't meet expectations. Nonetheless, do not let our experience stop you, I'm sure it's a great place for breakfast and/or brunch. Overall our experience was not the best. Went to grab breakfast on 8/21 and was very upset not because my order was messed up. Mistakes happen! But the way the server handled the situation. Ryanna took my order over the phone and I told her not to add any meat in my order. When I came to pick it up and opened it before checking out I saw that my breakfast burrito was filled with minced meat. I was upset because I repeated it twice to Ryanna over the phone to make sure. When I saw it I told her that there was meat in it. She looked at me very upset and said "I told them no meat" she rolled her eyes and took my order to the back and came back out and brought me the receipt and 'threw it in front of me' and said "here see I told them no meat" I said why are you telling me go tell them and have them remake it" she rolled her eye again and went inside then came outside and didn't say nothing to me. I felt ignored and extremely disrespected. This issue escalated even more when I had another lady (who apologized on behave of Ryanna ) take my payment. Leanne came and said I will do it. And as Leanna swiped my card with anger she threw it in the trash (please see picture). Everything about her was awful; she could have avoided all of this and simply should have apologize for what happened and said I'll have it remade. But instead she gave me so much attitude and disrespect that I have a really sour feeling about this place in my heart and will not be returning here again. And will definitely not recommend any of my family and friends to visit this place. We don't come for free food we come for good food and great service and are willing to pay for that good service. When I asked to speak to the manager, I was told that Ryanna was the manager. After I paid for my stuff and left I did some research to found the owner so that I can give my feedback. I came to find that there is no use to talk to the owner or the manager because Ryanna turned out to be the owner's daughter. ‍ My advice to the owner is if you cannot teach your own child how to behave and acknowledge their mistake and apologize then I don't know why you would hire your own to ruin your business's reputation.
