Came here for lunch with a couple of coworkers and I wasn't disappointed. It was kinda weird that during lunch time there wasn't as many people as I thought they should have. If you're downtown Salt Lake or anywhere near it, this place is a must! It is the cutest lunch spot. They have so many yummy breakfast and lunch sandwiches which they sell both half and full sizes (the half was plenty for me) as well as a few different soups. Also, a fun little perk that I HAVE to mention is that they have all sorts of foreign candy for sale by the register. There were a few of my favorites (including milka, kinder, marabou) that I lived off of while traveling various places in Europe which gave me serious nostalgia! I will 100 percent be back. Pretty tasty sandwich shop! It's a nice quick place if you're in a hurry or want something a bit fresher for lunch. I work nearby this location and order from here every so often or so. The food is great and there is one employee there who always has a great attitude. My two gripes warranting the 4 instead of 5 stars are as follows; 1. It feels a bit overpriced for a quick pickup cafe. 2. A lot of the staff seem pretty grumpy the several times I've gone in. I ordered the smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel and it was quite tasty. I also like that there were grill marks on my bagel. In the first bite, there was a sour taste and I later found out that there is big piece of lemon slice in it. SURPRISE! I definitely was not ready for that nite nor was I expecting it. I thought the salmon went bad. Regular coffee is decent, but it's like any other coffee shop you would grab on the go. Staff are pretty friendly and laid back. Maybe because it's 9 am and everyone isn't quite awake yet so there's no sense of urgency to get the orders out right away. Having been working downtown for almost a year now, I have been meaning to try out Toaster's every single time I walk past it in order to get to Boston Deli during lunch. One day Alison and I finally decided to give it a try on one of our lunch outings. I ended up getting a soup and sandwich combo with the turkey avocado, which came with chips, and I think the soup was the rosemary chicken dumpling soup. Both were phenomenal, except, I do admit to picking out the red onion from my sandwich and substituting it with Alison's tomato slice. I should eat with her all the time because I loves me some tomatoes. Most of the time I find that when I get a half sandwich, it's fairly difficult to eat especially since I always order something with avocado that slips and slides around. But because Toaster's uses high quality ingredients, including amazing bread, I had a breeze eating my sandwich (not to mention, it was super tasty so that didn't hurt). The interior is very cute, warm and inviting. I happen to be a fan of huge handwritten chalkboard menus. I love their Turkey Avocado Sandwich although every one I've tried has been delicious. They have a Feta dressing for their salads that is my favorite dressing in the world! Having heard good things about Toaster's I decided to try it out. I went to their new location on 300 South. Talking with the server, they have been open at that location for about eight months, but their original location has been in Salt Lake over eight years. The interior is your basic hip, trendy coffee shop/café. Well-decorated, with a very friendly staff that welcomes you as you walk in the door. They have an extensive menu of sandwiches and salads. Being a sucker for everything Italian, I went with "The Premium" sandwich. Prosciutto, freshly-sliced tomatoes, olive oil, balsamic vinegar (I always get extra on my sandwiches), roasted red peppers, and mozzarella. I was very impressed that they stock whole mozzarella balls, and cut them in slices to order, which turned out to be a very generous portion on my sandwich. The sandwich was fantastic. They toast the sandwiches, providing just the right amount of crunch. I don't know if it can beat The Caputo, but it is definitely my #2 favorite sandwich in Salt Lake City. My only gripe about my meal: Lay's Original potato chips. I just don't get them. I think they're disgusting, salty pieces of fried cardboard, and I think it's a shame that Toaster's pairs such a sub-par side with such a stellar sandwich. Please either do a pasta side, or spring a little and get some kettle chips. But leave the Lay's where they belong: on the picnic table at Grandma Betty's family reunion. Walk right past Jimmy John's and Quizno's and head straight for Toasters the next time you're in downtown SLC looking for a great sandwich. read more

Their lunch special is a great deal! It comes with a small cup of soup, half a sandwich of your choice, and some chips. First day: I got the tomato ravioli soup which was divine because I love ravioli. The ravioli was not soggy, the soup was not too salty, and it kept warm even on my walk back to the office. And it was great!! I also got the veggie sandwich. Fresh veggies, two kinds of cheese, and tasty panini style bread. The chips were fresh, not stale (unlike Good Dogs). I was stuffed. Nothing local and unique is open on Sunday in Salt Lake City!" But there's a light shining into the lonely desolate Sunday streets of Salt Lake... it's Toasters! The restaurant is a is brightly lit, has nice high ceilings and is modernly decorated. Theres lots of seating for a downtown restaurant, plenty of 4 tops for groups. There's parking on the street and its free after 6pm and I didn't pay for on the weekend (which maybe makes it free? Or me lucky?). I had the Capocolla & Salami and made it a combo with the soup, chips and drink. I enjoyed the sandwich. It looked like they sliced the meat and cheese on site which generally lends itself to being a better quality sandwich. The greens were incredibly fresh and were actually greens, not just a piece of lettuce. And of course its not a good italiano sandwich without a nice balsamic vinegar which there was plenty of on this sandwich. They press the sandwich in a panini press but I wouldn't go as far as to discredit the sandwich by calling it a panini. The soup I ordered was the Clam Chowder. I think I'm a glutton for punishment when it comes to Clam Chowder. Its probably safe to say short of Ivars in Pac NW or the Northeast you're probably going to get a mediocre chowder. Toasters in Salt Lake City isn't an exception to that theory. It was plain with little flavor and tasted like it had sat for awhile. Not exactly home made. Stick to the chicken noodle or something else. Just went to Toaster's for the first time. The turkey avacado sandwich was great. It was toasted like a panini but not to the point where it tears up the roof of your mouth. It had vinager and a good amount of turkey and tasted fresh. Liked it a lot and it was a reasonable price. The decor is fun. It had a modern sporty flare, with soccer on the flatscreens. I wasn't even in the mood for a fresh mozz sandwich that day but...holy crap. So glad I had a job to do! Prosciutto, fresh mozz, balsamic, olive oil - what's not to love? I had been meaning to try Toaster's after reading/hearing so many good things from people I trust. They were pretty slammed at lunchtime, but the line moved quickly and our group of 4 had already staked out a table. I ordered the pastrami sandwich and it got out to me in a decent amount of time. Apparently they use Squatter's mustard here, and while I'm all for local ingredients, they took it a little far. The mustard was the ONLY thing I could taste. This leads me to think 2 things: 1) No one at this restaurant has ever eaten this sandwich as was prepared for me. If they had, they would have realized this mustard needs to be cut a little bit. or 2) While bunny shooting out near midway 10+ years ago, I was bitten by a infected spider thus making me not only super strong, but also super sensitive to mustard. Its a cross I bear. I also realize that it could be possible that in the hustle and bustle of this busy lunch that they screwed up and put on too much mustard, but that isn't dramatic enough for me or Yelp! Their bathroom is a bit weird.. well, not the bathroom, but the way to get there... It has to be maybe a shared bathroom with other businesses in the building or something, but its still cool. They have good vegetarian options, and the aura of the place is super lax and enjoyable. Best Deli in SLC hands down, i don't know who even compares. I even feel bad for the poor dopes walking into Quiznos 2 doors down! I mean they are about to get a less than mediocre sub made by someone who hates their job when just a hop skip and a jump away there's toasters waiting to have a party in your mouth! Everything here is good you can't go wrong. My fav is the spicy buffalo chicken sandwich and i love to get a soup with it but around 3pm they seem to be out which would be my only complaint. Toasters is kind of a mixed bag, it all depends what you get. This a local place with a local vibe - great atmosphere and the folks behind the counter are very friendly. One hot little number is downright vivacious! ;-) The Turkey Avocado and Buffalo Chicken sandwiches are excellent in taste and preparation - 5 stars there! But that's where my admiration ends. I had the ranch chicken salad which for $7.50 came with a tiny piece of chicken, a smidgen of dressing, and a ton of lettuce. Paying $7.50 for a lot of lettuce was very disappointing. The Turkey Avocado sandwich is $7.50 so by the time you're done with taxes it's a little over $8. Then there is the tip jar, that ever present hand out for more cash from take out. If you put a $ in there then you're in for $9. Caputos charges a stiff $8.25 for a sandwich now but at least they have the class to forgo the tip jar! Obviously I have a bent about the tip jar at any place these days and in the current economy. I often bring my lunch to work but sometime I don't and go out in that neighborhood to find food. Jimmy Johns next door makes excellent sandwiches for between $4 and $5 and there's no tip jar! read more

And with good reason: the food is fresh and the sandwiches are relatively creative for SLC. My favorite is the garlic herb chicken, but there are several that I bounce back and forth from. The sandwiches aren't dirt cheap, but I think they're fairly priced for what you get. The staff is friendly, fast, (and has been pointed-out-elsewhere) easy on the eyes, too. My only Toaster's criticism is its over-the-top love of balsamic vinegar. I love balsamic, I really do; however, it's a strong ingredient and sometimes I'm just not in the mood for it. If I happened downtown a lot more, I'd probably try to hover around 300 S. The vast majority of places on my list in that area that I want to try are along that street, but this is one I was excited about trying for a while. The sandwiches appear to all be toasted paninis, which is the way pretty much all sandwiches should be and they do a very good job toasting them. The bread is also the right thickness, which is not very, leaving the outside to be crunch, what little bit of soft inside to soak up the dressings and the rest to get out of the way of what's actually inside the sandwich. Portions were also very solid as far as the meat and cheese go and sure, sandwiches may be a bit ubiquitous and commonplace now, but when someone does it right, like these guys do - and they do it way right, it's still a nice treat. The Premium is definitely the thing to get, if you like a nice balance of a salty meat along with roasted bell pepper, fresh mozz and a skillfully applied drizzle of balsamic, with which they thankfully manage to avoid becoming overbearing. There is also beer available, a decent selection of drinks, sort of random snacks and a sort of cool place to hang out and eat. Staff is also very friendly. Even though I tend to avoid downtown like it's infested with zombies, this was a very bright spot in the area and Toaster's is money, if you're after a sandwich. read more

Hot drink service was non existent this morning. The gentleman manning drinks would take the order, charge you for it, but never get around to pouring. The gal in front of me had obviously been waiting for awhile and came back to the counter twice saying she's now running late for work while asking about her coffee. My friend and I ordered a bagel and a plain croissant a hot tea and regular coffee. The baked goods were ready in less than five minutes. We waited another few minutes and went back to the counter. The guy was clueless. Had to tell him what we ordered. Coffee is mediocre and Luke warm. The baked goods are good. But service is so slow doubt I'll be back. This place, is legit. Haven't had a sandwich like this for a long time! What I liked, when watching the girl make my sandwich, is they evenly distribute all the condiments on both sides of the bread, so you get an even spread on both sides; and they take a lot of care making your sandwich. That kind of care, put into my food really impresses me; it's the little things that count. I got the prosciutto, and the berry salad, and both were delicious. Only thing I would have added on the salad, is a little protein, like a a small amount of chicken. Other than that, I wouldn't change a thing. And the bread is toasted! Hence their name. I recently stopped by this location as I was wandering around downtown. I previously ate at their other location and had a decent sandwich. This was a better experience by far and I enjoyed the atmosphere far more than the other location. I ordered the roast beef sandwich which I thought was pretty good. The meet as tender and tasted good. I don't really like Lays original potato chips, but I put some hot sauce on them and everything was better. Toasters has a wide variety of other sandwiches and they serve beer. They also have a wide selection of gummy bears which is a plus. A plus to any restaurant in downtown Salt Lake City Is a patio and Toasters doe not disappoint. The staff is friendly and answered all of my questions regarding the sandwiches and any substitutions. We were going to a concert at Abravanel Hall last night and since we don't get to SLC often, I was searching Yelp via my phone for something faster than sit down, but nicer than Mcdonald's and close to the concert hall when I came across this place. I'm glad to say that it definitely earned all the good ratings it has gotten and I throw my lot in with all the other fans of this place. My sandwich (just a classic turkey breast) was loaded with meat so I never felt like I was eating mostly bread (though stuffing it that full made it a little hard to eat without shooting my tomato across the table, which actually did happen. Hit my husband too. =P) The balsamic vinegar and olive oil added a nice touch and helped to soften the bread a bit, but not too much. The bread itself was good. Not sure what kind they use but it had a nice crust. This place is more upscale than the Blimpie and the Jimmy John's that frame it. I felt it was somewhere in between sit-down and fast food. The environment was nice too. Cozy and relaxed, it actually reminded me of a place I might find in Seattle, and I was continually surprised to see the streets of Salt Lake and not a view of the Puget Sound outside. All in all it was a great little place that I would definitely go to again next time I'm in Salt Lake. Next time I'll have to try their soup, as I was a little pressed for time with the concert coming up and totally forgot to get soup. Though if the previous reviewers are right, there wouldn't have been any as it was 7pm... Definitely give it a try.
