We had a few beers and I noticed that the restaurant served something like elotes. I ordered them to share with my colleagues, where one described it as corn chowder (he was from New Hampshire). The food and drinks probably get a 3.5 at absolute most but the vibes, service and ambiance bring this up to a 4. To start this is probably the most extra restaurant I've ever been to in my life. I mean seriously I felt like we were in Vegas. Came with my family and aunt and uncle for my sister's bday. My family likes Mexican and fancy places so seemed perfect. Our server was absolutely delightful! Just so good at her job and prompt with everything. And the service is just crazy fast. They bring things out so quickly, both food and apps! For appetizers we got one of the ceviche, guacamole and truffle quesadilla. The apps were so delicious that I had such high hopes for dinner. In particular the ceviche was divine! However, the main courses were less than subpar quite honestly. I got the truffle burger and upgraded to the manchego truffle fries. The burger was $48 and $12 for upgraded fries. The burger was overcooked, dry, flavorless, and small as hell. I could see but not taste any truffle. The fries looked like curly fries from a ball game with some half melted cheese over the top. Honestly i cannot believe they charge $50 for this damn burger lol. I make a better one in my sleep. I'd honestly rather have five guys no joke. On top of that others weren't super happy with their food. My sisters both had shrimp and it was way overcooked. My aunt's chicken was dry and too spicy for her (the latter is her fault lol). The reason why I'm giving this place four stars versus five is because of the service in some ways. It took three attempts, and by asking different staff, I finally got a napkin. Isn't that the first thing you make sure everyone has?? Our waitress definitely took her time getting our order and etc... Other than that, the vibe was good. The fire show that they had for the guest was really awesome. After my friends raved about this place, we had to go check it out. This place is something else! We've been here for both dinner and their unlimited brunch, and everything has been amazing every time. The vibe inside feels like a Vegas or LA restaurant, and it's always packed for a reason. Brunch here is especially incredible. I traveled to Scottsdale for a friend's 40th birthday and chose to dine at Toca Madera for the fun environment and the fire dancers as stated on the website. Upon arrival , we were greeted by the complimentary valet who helped us take care of the car. Upon entering the restaurant we were kindly greeted. I was impressed by the upscale ambiance and decor! It felt like we were walking into a club; loud music , busy bar, lots of energy and Photo Booth ! We were seated in the lounge room and were told the fire dancers would perform in that space . Unfortunately, this was not the case. The fire dancers went to the front dining room area and passed by the area towards the back near the DJ , no where near us. We ended up booking the fire dancer for a private showing(2.5 minutes )for a 100 dollar tip :( As for the food , I would say it was cooked well and there were a lot of options . We ordered the tomahawk steak which was a lot smaller than the traditional size. The bone marrow chimicahuri sauce was a delicious sauce that came with the steak!!!! I also recommend the corn as a side. The drinks were all exceptional and some come with a performance! Our service was excellent but our poor waitress had to keep raising her voice because the music was so loud. This place is not really a place where you can have a conversation but more of a party vibe ! This was great dinner to end off our girls trip in Scottsdale! It is a Mexican steakhouse that was beautiful inside along with tasty food. The service was very attentive, and our server was very knowledgeable and made great suggestions. They do however play music loudly, so it may not be the best place to chit chat. They had complimentary chips and salsa which was so good. We had two rounds of it! I got the Pan Seared Salmon which ended up filling me up more than expected. The salmon had a good crust, and the seasoning was great. It was paired with spinach and a mango salsa. This dish was flavorful and light! Our table all around enjoyed our dishes. We had a wonderful happy hour. I took them Madeira Friday night. Kay took fabulous care of us with appetizers and our cocktails. Peter did a great job backing her up as well. The drink I got was the pillow talk which was yummy however it's one of those drinks with the largest ice cube ever that fills up 70% of the cup so you have no actual drink and it's $25 dollars. Toca is definitely a hot spot in Scottsdale to check out. You can easily valet right in the front, I would highly recommend reservations if you don't want to wait. We had reservations at 5 and we got there a little early and just had to wait until the main dining area opening up. Which surprisingly once it was opened it was another 10 minutes until we were seated. I had family in town so we were enjoying each other's company and a hangry sister is not something I signed up for lol! So that luckily didn't ruin the mood! Once seated, our server was awesome. We went for dinner this evening, and the experience was less than what we expected; more ambiance than substance. This was our second visit, the first being in Las Vegas. Big, big, difference between the two with the Scottsdale location a distant second. The food, while delicious, was overpriced for the portions. $30 for a small plate of calamari is kind of ridiculous, and taco plates that looked like Garcia's. Drinks were okay, nothing spectacular and we only each had one. As a 4some, we ended up with a $500 bill for what should have been $200-$300 tops. Our server was also somewhat full of himself, which didn't help. They don't allow a split check by couples, which then makes for math gymnastics from one ticket. Simply allowing separate checks would serve the customer better, at no cost to the restaurant. What should have been a spectacular dining experience was more ho-hum and run of the mill, so we won't be back. Should have gone to Ocean 44. read more

The restaurant is nice. Very low lighting so kind of dark which is not an issue just an observation. We were seated in the bar area because the restaurant didn't open until 5 for dinner. Every item we ordered was warm and I asked the waitress if the short rib tacos were suppose to be warm and she said yeah. I think she straight up lied. None of the food we received was piping hot (short rib tacos, queso fundido, salmon, chicken tinga tacos and some other appetizers.) very disappointing warm/cold food just don't taste the same. I will start off by saying I have been to this restaurant several times at this point of this experience. I should have posted a good review for the other times. I have dined at this restaurant because they were really good you know and I hate to be one of those people that only post negative stuff. So I decided for Mother's Day that I would ask my children to take me to this restaurant so they can experience the fun fire theme the great fire eating lady walking around. She is so fun and you know when they give you the drinks with the fire sparkling up from the drink, it's so fun and I just wanted my children who had not been there before to experience that. So the past few experiences that I have been there, the staff was super enthusiastic about the fire thing, especially when the drinks come, and you know we love our drinks so they would come in the fire would be like literally like a dragon, and I have video of this somewhere I should post it of the difference of the enthusiasm of the servers . So it made me super excited for my children to experience the enthusiasm of the servers and unfortunately on Mother's Day we did not get this On Mother's Day, it was not even as packed as you would think you can see in the pictures. It was not that busy. I don't know if they were understaffed, but everybody just seemed underwhelmed to take care of us and it was felt and it was super unfortunate. So I ordered the drinks that I would order the the margarita that you know use the shaker to light the fire and the server comes over and she didn't even like have any enthusiasm. I looked over and she had already did it. She already did the fire experience and nobody saw it and she just put it down and my little sugar cube was barely on fire. It was very sad. That was an experience. I wanted my kids to see and she just left. So that was a super bummer and all of our wine glasses had spots on them. It was totally disgusting so I asked for new glasses and they brought them to me immediately and I showed them and they agreed that they don't know why they were even put on the table. Our server, I mean, he tried to be attentive, but I don't know if he had too many tables in our area. I ordered a bottle of wine that he never came and opened and poured for me. I know Maybe that's a spoiled person problem but it was just weird. You know in a finer dining restaurant you would expect your server to come and you know open up the bottle and at least pour the first glass. But he was too busy. I don't know if they were doing other things anyhow so we ordered steaks, enchiladas, burgers, fish appetizers all everything you can imagine desserts all of it And the food was just kind of mediocre this day so it was really upsetting to go to my favorite restaurant with my kids for the first time on Mother's Day and for it to be such a downer. So when the desserts came, you know, I told him if he could please put the sparkler on the desserts and he said they usually only reserve that experience for special occasions, and my daughter said well this is Mother's Day and this is my mother lol so I guess he was like OK so he did that. He stuck it in one of the desserts and I could feel the heat by my ear when he came and put it on the table and I don't know if he was being aggressive or not, but I could literally feel the heat from the sparkler next to my head because he wasn't paying attention so that was really annoying. I was not happy about that at all. I feel like this day they just didn't wanna have to deal with us and it made me super sad so will I go back to this restaurant? Maybe I don't know. You know I had several several great experiences there but this one I really wanted to be good and it wasn't. My kids I don't know if they were as enthused as I was when we left probably not. For restaurants that charge these kind of prices for mediocre food and more for the experience they should really make sure the experience is great every time. The desserts are always delicious here. Food was great for the most part. Ambience is always fun here. Moody hosts at the front are comical at this point they're so young and half dressed it's kind of funny but just get me to my seat right lol read more

Came here for a buddy's bachelor party, 15 of us for a big dinner. I'm always a little worried about getting forgotten about when we have a party this big, but our server Jordan took VERY good care of us. Drinks were always topped off and checked in on us all the time. Some of the best service I've seen anywhere. Atmosphere is something different. Dark lights, bumping EDM, scantily clad women dancing with fire. It feels more like a club at first. But don't let appearances fool you, the food and drink here is great. Drinks, as a Mexican restaurant, heavily revolve around tequila and mezcal, and they do it well. The Oaxcan margarita is a good mezcal twist on a spicy margarita classic. But my personal favorite was the papasito, a very cinnamon forward Old Fashioned adjacent style drink. And if you were feeling as festive as we were, I'd recommend at least a round of their fire tequila shots (they really love their fire here). Food at face value doesn't seem like it would be much to write home to mom about. But you'd be lying to your mother if you did. Chips, guac, salsa and fried savory plantains feel like a must to start with, all of which taste very fresh. The calamari would even put some Italian places I've been to to shame, the crema that comes with it I'd gladly put on anything. For main entrees, the steak comes with a delightful chimichurri and the chicken Al pastor is legitimately the most tender chicken I've had the pleasure of eating. But don't sleep on the Mac and cheese, black beans, and fries as sides (they come with this great spicy sauce that's almost like a peri peri). Lastly for dessert, the Tres leches strawberry shortcake is an easy guilty pleasure favorite for me, but in reality my favorite was actually the churro! Parking can be a little chaotic, although there is a lot right there, the valet system can leave a little something to be desired on busy nights. read more

I was VERY disappointed when coming here. It was my partners 21st birthday, and we had a very nice dinner at another establishment, walked around town and had a surprise dessert with our friends. Right when i walked up this employee was very rude, and asked all these questions before letting me into the restaurant. Mind you, this was supposed to be a surprise so he was ruining the entire night for us. When I finally got in with my partner we walked to the table where our friends were seated and right away the server did not at all make the night special. This place is a VIBE. Usually when a place puts this much effort into decor, ambiance, bumpin' bass, and overall look and feel, food suffers. Thankfully, this was not the case. In true vibe status, we got there at 9:20pm and had to wait. Our res was at 8:45, but we came straight from the airport, and it took longer than expected to get the rental car. No matter, we grabbed a margarita (house marg, nothing fancy, reasonably priced) and it was truly delicious. We were treated to a fire show at the bar, and about 10 minutes later our table (seat at the kitchen) was ready. If you can get this seat, I recommend it, it's pretty cool to see the food flying out. For food we opted for the ceviche, A5 tacos, and enchiladas with both sauces. I was truly impressed with the food. Hard to pick a favorite, but the A5 was cooked perfectly and so delicious. Not cheap in the price department, but that's to be expected. We left at almost 10:30 and there were STILL people waiting to get in. So, lesson learned - don't miss your res, but even if you do, you'll get in eventually, and it's certainly worth the wait. read more

If you are looking for a party, this is your place right here. I have never seen so many beautiful people in one place before and I've been clubbing in Vegas multiple times. The food, the ambiance, and service. Amazing! Go here for a birthday, Bachelor/Bachelorette, or just a fun night out. I was so impressed with every aspect of this place. My husband and I went here for a date night on a Saturday. Our reservation was at 945pm and yet it was still completely hopping and full of people when we got there with groups of people still waiting to be seated. The restaurant is grand and gorgeous. The hostesses are intimidatingly beautiful as well. There is a bar in the back if you just want a drink to wait for your table. We got seated within ten minutes. Good thing we had a reservation. Since we had kids, we were constantly on our phones to check if we were okay. A gentleman next to us asked if we like quacamole. We said no so he said I'll have them take care of you guys. Turns out he was a previous owner and didn't like to see us on our phones. Lol he had them send out an extra appetiter and drinks for us. That just totally made our night. The service was great even before that On to the food. Everything was amazing especially the scallops, Hamachi, and Churro dessert. You won't be disappointed with anything you order. The drinks are like theatrical events. Some of them are lit on fire in front of you. It's an amazing show. Also there is a fire dancer that does a performance twice an hour, in the front room and then by the bar. I left there very full and happy. This is a VERY busy restaurant. Expect to be walking shoulder to shoulder with the other groups. I came on a Friday evening, had reservations for 9:45pm. But didn't get seated till about 10:20pm, because the group before us was still finishing up desert. They have a 2 hour limit, but seems like they don't enforce it. My group was given complementary shots due to our extended wait time. Staff were friendly and able to assist with any recommendations or questions we had. Food was great, there were so many choices to choose from. My only complaints would be the wait time despite having a reservation, having to ask our waiter multiple times for refills on drinks before the refill was actually delivered, and always running low on water. read more

THE SPECIAL OCCASION SPOT! While on a bachelorette party in Scottsdale, I headed to Toca Madera with 8 hungry girlies and a beautiful bride. Immediately, we were dazzled by the restaurant's exterior. There's trees, plants and beautiful lighting everywhere. On top of that, they had fire dancers come out here and there. YES, FIRE DANCERS! It's a pretty exceptional atmosphere they've created. The servers we had were incredible, too! They were on top of our orders, and great at recommending food options. We all ordered differently and all were very impressed with the meal. I had the steak with truffle butter, which cut like butter. AYE! It was cooked med-rare and full of deliciousness. Of course, we were a table of sharers so I had bites of just about everything. The experience at this restaurant was underwhelming. The service was slow and inattentive, and the food lacked flavor and presentation. While some dishes had potential, they fell flat overall. The ambiance was decent, but it didn't compensate for the disappointments. I had high hopes, but unfortunately, we went to celebrate our anniversary and they asked us what was the special occasion and left it at that no congratulations or anything.
