There are good places to get stinky tofu - but I would drive 30 miles from where I live, just to go here. And since its stinky tofu, you'll smell it right away. The stinky tofu is paired with pickled veggies, which brings a nice acidity to the dish as a whole. The tofu is made perfectly - crunchy on the outside and so flavorful and juicy inside! I can't quite describe the sauce but trust me, its perfect :) If you think its stinky, just try it! The stink means flavor! It's been a while since the last time I came to this place. And to be honest I was a little disappointed. The taste of the Stinky tofu was ok, but the tofu was a little stale. The Spicy stinky tofu was more spicy than it was stinky. And the serving of Beef stew noodles was just really small. Maybe it's because of inflation and the cost of everything is higher , but I just didn't think I got my money's worth. Been coming here for years and still my favorite spot for fried stinky tofu! -Price has gone up but they accept Venmo and Zelle transfers! -I also really like their " Lu Rou Fan "! So good!! First of all, let me report this: the price for a plate of Stinky Tofu and a bowl of Sliced Pork Rice is already $18.50 from $15.33 from July, 2018. My daughter and I went to Tofu King, Irvine but we can't dine in because of the COVID. Then three days later, we decided to have one at the Rowland Heights branch. We still can't dine in, but fortunately, there are outdoor seats. I visited Rowland Heights one and Arcadia one several times before, both are good. The Stinky Tofu I got this time is the best. 4 deep-fried Stinky Tofu have been cut into 16 pics, they are so crunchy and crispy, the tofu has so many little holes can absorb enough sauce. The pickled cabbage is so sour gives me a striking feeling which I love. The Rowland Heights one is located inside a plaza, which is so Chinese. Full of Chinese restaurants and every speak so loudly and even a woman uses handsfree WeChat to tell her friend on another side: I am going to eat my Stinky Tofu now! One of my favorite stinky tofu places in LA! This place has become one of my to-go-to stops when I'm in San Gabriel (known as the Asian area). I always get the bite sized stinky tofu. It's fresh and fried, not super stinky like some of the stinky tofu shops in Hong Kong or Taiwan. The soy sauce with radish on the side adds an amazing taste to the crispy, fresh stinky tofu. I also tried the Szechuan style stinky tofu. It's good and has a nice, spice kick. Personally, I still prefer the bite sized fried stinky tofu from here. read more

I was specifically craving for stinky tofu so I went for this spot! -Stinky Tofu: the tofu is fermented and then deep fried, it has a very distinctive smell, to me it smells so good but to some it may be stinky! it comes with some taiwanese kimchi and chili sambal on the side that go sooo well with the tofu! - Pork Thick Soup: this is something my grandma used to make, pork meat balls with bamboo shoots and shiitake mushrooms in a broth thicken with corn starch and served with rice vermicelli - Mushroom Sliced Pork Rice: the pork belly and shiitake mushrooms were sliced into small pieces and braised in a flavorful sauce and served on a bed of rice with some sour cabbage and a marinated egg, so so comforting and good -Rou Yuan: or ba wan！ It's a traditional Taiwanese street food that's made with sweet potato starch into a translucent dough and stuffed with pork meat ball and served with this sweet and savory sauce. The dough was super QQ! - Mixed Marinated Plate: the mixed plate consisted of seaweed, egg, and bean curds. They were all drenched in thick soy sauce and very flavorful! Tofu King is by far my favorite Taiwanese spot to go to when I'm craving for Taiwanese food. There are a few Taiwanese restaurants around SGV, however, they don't meet my expectations when it comes to consistency and authenticity. We came here about a week or two ago on a Thursday afternoon. My boyfriend wanted to try their Mushroom Ground Pork Rice w/Egg, but the lady taking our order told him the Mushroom Sliced Pork Rice w/Egg is much better. I totally agreed with her. Although the sliced pork was more fattier, it was much more flavorful and not as dry compared to the ground pork (we've tried their ground pork rice before so I was able to compare). FYI: My boyfriend hates eating fatty parts of the meat but he loved their Mushroom Sliced Pork Rice. We always have to order their Stinky Tofu no matter what! It comes with a good amount of Taiwanese pickled cabbage which I love. Also, their Pork Intestine Wrap Sausage is on point! I wish they can just put it like a wrap instead of cutting it though. Love this place. Tiny unassuming little hole in the wall with authentic Taiwanese street food. Some of them can be acquired tastes for the uninitiated but if you're looking for authenticity in your food adventures this is a great choice. Their signature dish here is the stinky tofu, a platter of deep fried fermented tofu served with pickled cabbage and spicy sauce on the side. The one here isn't quite as stinky as what I've had in Taiwan but I guess subject to US cultural norms this is probably the max level of stink they can manage. The other dish I always order is "pork intestine wrap sausage". The food is still as good as it was the last I visited pre-COVID. The ordering is done at the door to comply with COVID standards. The portion of food is still good even though it is to-go now. The Taiwan sausage rice w/ egg was delicious, the food was steaming hot and fresh. They were generous with the portions. Stinky tofu - served hot with pickled cabbage as usual. This is the definition of a whole in the wall joint. Ordered the Dan Dan noodles and it was a creamy sauce with a faint flavor of peanuts. I'd call it good but not great. You order the beef and tendon noodle bowl, that's what ;) The restaurant looks really like a "hole-in-the-wall" type place. Its located in the very back of a large plaza. When you go inside, you'll see that there's only really seating for about a couple dozen people max. Not saying this is a bad thing, just saying its very quaint. The food was great. The stinky tofu was on point (and it definitely smelled stinky the entire time inside the restaurant. But if you didn't expect that going in, then what are you doing here really?), and my beef noodle bowl was pretty solid. Tofu King is tucked away in the the courtyard area in the HK market plaza. I wasn't here for the stinky tofu this time. I came here for the beef noodle soup and the mushroom pork rice because Yelpers said they were tasty. The lady who took my to-go order was very welcoming and understanding when I inquired about any peanut ingredients in the dishes I ordered. Peanut allergy is no joke. The beef noodle was good and well portioned. The mushroom pork rice was quite small and tasted ok. I plan to try every restaurant in this plaza- 2 more to go. Haha. Probably the most authentic Taiwanese place you can find in SoCal and not gonna lie I crave this place at least once a month. I'm willing to drive 45mins each time from LA to this place just to have their stinky tofu & a bowl of meatball vermicelli! All their meatballs are handmade and they have other handmade products they sell separately from the menu that you can buy and cook them at home yourself. Compared to the sister restaurant at Arcadia, this place has better fried stinky tofu but their other offerings aren't as good. For instance, the lou rou fan (mushroom ground pork rice with egg) is decent here, but it is definitely better at the Arcadia location. Similarly, the Tung Zai Mi Gao (Dang A' Bee Guh in Taiwanese, glutinous rice dish served with a great sweet/savory sauce) is a shadow of itself at this location, compared to the exemplary version at the Arcadia location. And this brings up one of the gripes that I have about Chinese/Taiwanese restaurants. There does not seem to be a consistency across different stores, let alone within itself. Contrast this to a standard Japanese restaurant, if you go back to the same Japanese restaurant, things will be guaranteed to taste the same. Alas, but I digress.
