We're on a mission to try all the Teriyaki places in the new home town. The restaurant was exactly what we expected: Some plastic plants, a Buddha, and lots of Japanese banners. We were seated promptly and handed a pretty extensive menu. We ordered a bento box with salmon and a spicy chicken teriyaki preceded by some egg rolls. The egg rolls were really good and very much like the ones my wife makes. Both meals were excellent. I really enjoyed the spicy teriyaki - it was the perfect blend of sweet teriyaki and spice. Our host/server was super friendly and we had a great conversation about Korean culture. I really recommend Tokyo Teriyaki if you're in Gig Harbor. Great food and pleasant people. read more

This tiny little place popped up on Yelp, and I'm happy it did! Everything was very fresh, the scallop was AMAZING with crunchy little bits and flying fish roe. Even the Miso soup was outstanding! The photos at this place looked good, but the food definitely was not. I haven't had worse teriyaki and sushi. Dishes were dirty. Portions were small. Sushi was terrible, very sour, possibly too much rice vinegar in the rice. The rolls also tasted like they were made with spoiled vegetables/fish. First off, the people who own and run this place are friendly and kind. My folks love them. We come by every time I'm in town. The food is plentiful, tasty, and filling. I LOVE this place for the Sattwic energy is has. It is always CLEAN (place and food) and the ladies that work here are very prompt, sweet and friendly. Their prices are VERY reasonable specially in comparison to the freshness snd good flavor of their food. I always have the Salmon with veggies. I very much like it. Stopped here around 3pm on a Saturday. Surprisingly, even though it wasn't really lunch time or dinner time, there were quite a few groups seated, which I took as a good sign! The lady at the counter, who I assume is the owner, was very warm and friendly. The menu is quite long, featuring mostly teriyaki and sushi, plus some Chinese items and a handful of Korean dishes as well. I ordered the salmon teriyaki bento which was probably the most expensive item on the menu, and it was totally worth it. It came with two gyoza, 4 big pieces of tempura (onion, yam, zucchini, and shrimp), 4 big pieces of California roll (which tasted super fresh), a small salad, and a huge piece of salmon over and equally huge bed of rice. I was extremely hungry so this turned out to be a good amount of food for me (I finished everything except some of the rice and some of the salad), but on a normal day this probably would have been enough for 2 meals. I will definitely return here if I'm in the area again! I'd especially like to try some of their Korean options - the owners seemed to be Korean based on the decor behind the counter so I feel like this could be really good too read more

The sushi here so yummy!!! My husband gets the teriyaki yakisoba. The portions are huge!

The harbor has a few teriyaki places to pick from, we've been to all off them and Tokyo is head and shoulders above the rest!! We have had their teriyaki to go many times and every time it has been outstanding. My only complaint is the "token" salad it comes with, but let's be real, nobody orders teriyaki for the salad, right? It's a small but very cozy place someday we will eat in, but for now, in order to to go they have the best in the harbor, hands down!! read more

We were heading past Gig Harbor and decided we needed to stop for a drink and some food. I was craving 7 Seas, so we popped into Tokyo Teriyaki to grab some food to go. We kept it simple, teriyaki chicken and teriyaki tofu. The prices were unbeatable- $6.99 and $7.99. Everything tasted pretty good. There was nothing fancy about it, but as the vegetarian and healthy one, I did appreciate the pan seared tofu with very little oil. The rice was cooked well and teriyaki sauce was tasty. The salad was a typical side salad, but the dressing was not good at all. That part bummed me out, as I wanted to throw some of the salad/dressing in with my teriyaki. The portions were very large and that gave my daughter and I a meal for the next day, so that's a plus. Considering the price and that it was decent food, I imagine we will stop by there at some point in the future. read more

Tokyo Teriyaki is ingeniously located in the same center than has 7 Seas. We went to 7 seas for a couple of beers, and it was almost dinner time so we wanted to get some food too. Sushi and beer is a whole other level of awesome. Talk about a symbiotic relationship. I believe we got gyoza, teriyaki chicken, and a sushi roll. Everything was fantastic and very high quality. I am never sure how good places are that do everything, but Tokyo Teriyaki is doing everything very well. It's awesome when local businesses feed business to each other. The specialty rolls are so, so good! Tried several including the yum yum and enjoyed the heaping amount of sashimi in all the rolls. Great service and ambiance, well priced for quality of sushi. I usually get teriyaki here but i really wanted sushi today, plus i feel bad so i didn't want anything heavy... i got the rainbow roll and the shrimp tempura.. the rolls are actually thick (similar to a futomaki) and im not saying this is good or bad but i think i lose my sushi "etiquette" with rolls like these because i can't just eat it in 1 bite so it can get a little messy, but i'm glad i ate them at home. I have been going here since I was a child and have never been disappointed. Their food is always made promptly and always delicious. Super friendly service and a great price as well. And the salad dressing is the best I've ever had. Would 100% recommend, especially the crunch roll and chicken teriyaki. A solid 3.5. Gig Harbor standby for many years now. One of the two great teriyaki houses in this town. To be honest, this one is my favorite. I find their food to be very high quality and although it can take some time for the food to arrive it is well worth it. I first started coming here over 10 years ago now and it has not withered in that time, if anything just gotten better. The owners are very friendly too and will remember you if you are a frequent customer. I like Tokyo Teriyaki. read more

Can't believe I hadn't written a review for this place yet! My mom and I often go here for sushi when I'm in town and it is excellent. There's a few sushi places in town but they are very overpriced and fancy. This is a No-Frills kind of place where you get excellent, large rolls for a very good price. Waitress was very friendly and you could tell it was a family restaurant where they were just trying to give good food to the community. We only paid $40 and we were stuffed to the Bone full of sushi rolls! Also comes with miso soup and salad before the rolls come out. read more

This is a local teriyaki and sushi place that has a devoted local clientele, including yours truly. (I had thought that I'd reviewed it some years ago, but apparently not.) For lunch, I would recommend one of the various bento boxes. My wife is especially fond of the salmon teriyaki bento, although I tend to mix it up a bit. The General Tso's chicken, while not really a teriyaki dish, is very good, as is their spicy chicken. They come with half a California roll, salad, some tempura, and miso soup. The dinner menu is equally good. It's small, the service is friendly and quick, although they do occasionally get overwhelmed by bunches of customers coming in all at once. Where do I start??? This was one of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had. I sat down and the white table cloths were filthy - with food residual and hair. I went to wash my hand in the bathroom, and there are cobwebs on the ceiling. The lady who was the server, was wearing what appeared to be some type of latex type gloves, touching EVERYTHING from the counters, to the cutlery, to the credit card machine, to the food - I visually saw her open my teabag with those gloves, hold the teabag in the gloves, and dip it in my water....eeewww. She then handed us cutlery and glasses with those SAME gloves - what was the purpose of wearing gloves if you are touching everything with them and not changing them? I ordered the chicken short rib 'house special'. The chicken was tough and lukewarm with hot heavy teriyaki sauce poured on top of it. The chicken did not taste like it was freshly prepared, nor did the overly salty short ribs. Despite having a few bites, sadly the food did not agree with my stomach and I will leave it at that. While visiting Gig Harbor, we elected to stay off the main drag and tourist cafes and found ourselves at Tokyo Teriyaki. What an excellent find. We eat lots of Asian food so feel our experience and tastes around the world to say - this was some great eating. The waitress was excellent and knew of our visit into town and catered to our needs. We each had a different dish with appetizers and all were excellent. I try to stay away from egg rolls, as most have become greasy and tasteless, but theres were superb. I strongly recommend locating and enjoying a great meal at a decent price. read more
