We all miss Mike and the long jokes. But Natalya has built a local team of ladies that are playing fun music, considerate and making it more fun than ever. The Sunday evening crowd proved lovely and fun. Folks were all visiting with each other. I still can't find my old man's shamrock but they are doing new shamrock events. It's time to come back. My first Old Fashion cocktail was at Maxwell's Plum in New York City in 1973. It was riddeliciously delicious. I've been chasing the same incarnation of this cocktail for over 40 years. It's been discouraging, futile and frustrating at best. That is until tonight at Tom Bergins on the Miracle Mile. They resurrected this tasty libation to Maxwell Plums heights and beyond. Complex, strong, usage of ingredients smartly, my Old Fashion, here, plastered a smile on my face that couldn't be knocked off with a sledge hammer. But, that was just the cocktail. My fish and Chips dinner rivaled my favorite rendition of this dish I had on the Thames River at my first food truck (ever) in jolly Olde London Towne. I mean I'm knocking off favs tonight like ducks in a row. Tom Bergins is this 85 year old Irish pub bringing its patrons, good food, good drink and fun; even during our second Covid-19 mandate. These nice people handled this formidable task with style and charm. Oh, let's not forget my On Tap Guinness pint, which took 8 minutes to correctly pour! I went to Tom Bergans the other night for food and drinks. It's got great atmosphere and c was really looking forward to eating there. THE happy hour dtinks were great. Very generous on the pour for a whisky on the rocks. I'm trying to eat healthier so they had a special of ahi tacos. Three of them for $18. Most of the food was in that price range and they looked like a generous amount including fries. When my tacos arrived, I was in shock! They were tiny! About half the size or smaller than a fast food taco! No sides came with it. Total rip off! They were tasty, but I was left very hungry! That was so dissapointing!! read more

Love what they have done with this place. Summer nights they have plenty of outdoor seats and tables and some nights they also have outdoor movie nights. Inside is the more traditional Irish bar with a long wooden bar area as well as booth seating. Their Guinness is on point and also has other Irish beers as well as plenty of Irish whiskeys and Scotch. Food is average. read more

Classic Irish bar. It was smaller than I remembered years ago. Inside is one large bar area with some seating in a side section. Coworkers and I went here for their happy hour and sat outside under the tent. It was really cold. Dress for the weather if you plan on being outside. I really wish they didn't allow dog INSIDE here. I don't know why they do. I'm pretty sure it's illegal. And they totally know because one was sitting at the bar, so the bartenders' clearly allow it. In mid 60s, I landed in LA from Michigan, one of the million or so young that heard the siren call of California and headed for Route 66.. Bergins was THE place to hang on weekends and great place to get hooked up! Plus, many Hollywood stars would show up periodically, even Ronald Reagan... THE SHAMROCKS: If you opened a house account, Bergins would put a shamrock on the wall or ceiling with your name on it. This was before Master card/Visa and they sent you a monthly bill. All those shamrocks represent thousands of house accounts.. My Shamrock is still there right above the ladies room door. lol. Bergins had the greatest bartender, Jake, who is long passed, but he knew and greeted everyone by name when you came in. This is the #1 Irish pub in USA. Glad I came in before the announcement of closing :( This was my dates usual place to get drinks all the time he told me. I had a wonderful time here. When we first came in, it was only a few people at the bar and later it got crazy packed. That's why im baffled as to why they closed. Maybe they should just keep it open for dinner and drinks and not do lunch. Older euro guy made my irish maid drink and it was great but he seemed to ignore us after that, which confused me. Oh well the younger guy hooked us up and I left with a nice buzzzzzzzz. VERY clean bathrooms as well. Such a shame this place es no mas, because the food smelled amazing and I wanted to try it :( read more

Right, we know you're shutting down after Sunday, July 7th, but that doesn't mean that you should start running out of menu items by 6:30pm on Friday, July 5th! Already out: Grilled Oysters, all pies (Mushroom, Shepherd's, etc.) because they ran out of mashed potatoes (WTF?), and by 7pm - out of Corned Beef & Cabbage, Pretzels, Free Soda Bread for the Table. So what happens for the last 2 days? By the time we left, the waitress was pretty much telling customers what was left before taking orders rather than to tell them "We're out" for just about every traditional Irish dish ordered. Can't blame them. Why would you go to an Irish restaurant to order a steak or a Cobb Salad? So pedestrian. Wait staff seems as if they've never waited on more than 5 tables at once. We had to remind our waitress 3 times for the iced tea (served the Coke and the beer, but no iced tea?)... then, it took 5 requests before we finally get Splenda (2 packets left in the sweetener holder we were given). No Mushroom Pie, fine. OK, I'll take the lamb stew then. It arrives....cubed lamb meat, 3 or 4 pieces of potatoes and diced carrots in a very watery broth. Was it a stew? Looked more like lamb soup. Um, there's no flavor! You have to be kidding me, the kitchen didn't bother to season the food? Added some grounded pepper and sprinkled some salt. Wow, what a difference! Simply a perfect cottage pie, peppery and savory and crisp fish and chips, with malt vinegar and of course the delicious Irish coffee. Service is mostly ordering at the bar, we dined outside. The picnic tables were fine and it's so nice eating outside this historic restaurant! Definitely recommended and will be back soon! read more

Our waitress was equally friendly albeit she was being pulled in all directions from well-wishers. All things considered, our drinks and food came out in a reasonable time, and our water glasses were checked on periodically. Parking - They had a free small private lot but that was full for obvious reasons. Metered street parking was available along the main drag of Fairfax Ave. and on the many surrounding side streets, but we ended-up in the nearby Petersen Automotive Museum down the street and paid the maximum ($12.00 cash/credit) since we hung out in the area afterwards (first 30 minutes free, then $2.00 every 30 minutes after that). Atmosphere, décor, ambience - Old-world feel from the wood walls throughout, the bar area was reminiscent of European pubs with a touch of the Temple Bar in Dublin, various paraphernalia hung from the ceiling (the "iconic" paper shamrocks with peoples' names covered the ceiling) and walls, and mostly standing-room only (there were barstools). The dining area was like a cozy German chalet, horse-racing was prominently displayed with posters and such, and the tables and chairs throughout were relatively close to each other. I liked the coat hooks on the walls next to each table. Overall, lighting was decent, and I saw a TV in the bar. Attire - It was totally casual so I was in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. Overall, I appreciated the comfy local pub feel of Tom Bergin's Tavern and got a glimpse as to why this neighborhood staple had lasted for over 77 years. I just wished I'd stopped in sooner. I found decent value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (total bill was around $106.00 before tip), as I felt the portions were on the slight side yet the prices were standard for the type of food. One of my favorite bars ever. To me, this is what a bar should be. You can pop in by yourself, have a quick drink and be on your way. Of course, here, you might get in a conversation with the bartender and that quick drink will turn into 2 or 3. I live in downtown L.A. and when I was working on the west side, this was my place to stop on the way home. Great place to unwind a bit after work. I also meet up with friends here and we always have a good time. They have a juke box and if it's not packed, I can usually put some money in and actually hear the music I played. My out of town friends seem to enjoy it here and usually ask to go back when they're visiting. I don't go often for their food but when I have eaten here it has been good. The Gaelic Beef is one of my favorites. It's on the dinner menu. Beef, onions & carrots with steamed potatoes simmered in Guinness Stout. Mmmmmmmmmm They've got a decent selection of Irish whiskey including one of my favorites, Connemara. read more

I really enjoyed both the atmosphere and food at Tom Bergin's! The horse decor is definitely pervasive throughout the restaurant, but with great food and an authentic irish waitress ... I couldn't complain. I had the special of the day (spicy and sweet clams) which I really enjoyed + I tried my friend fish and chips which was also quite good. We had the fried pickles as an app ... it was ok, but wouldn't say it's a must. DESSERT!!! You have to get the shortbread with blueberry cheesecake ice cream .... it was one of the best restaurant desserts I've had in a long time. A MUST TRY!!! Overall I enjoyed this place thoroughly. I love this bar. It's always clean and it feels cozy. All of the bartenders are great and make you feel welcome. The thing that surprised me here was how consistently great the food has been. Everything I've tried so far has been great; the wings, each of the burgers, a few specials and a few sides and a couple sandwiches. It's a sad day in LA when an institution such as Tom Bergin's is seeing its last of days. They've done all they could to keep this Los Angeles legend alive and kicking and the Irish restaurant has been putting its Irish boxing gloves on for a few years but the Fairfax construction and LA's high rents are driving out the Charming Public Houses that have given their best to this city. Tom Bergin's is where friendly faces always greeted you whether it was a smiling server or bar tender or even a stranger at the bar, (who never was a stranger for long). It's where Hollywood stars enjoyed the feelings of home over decades and there's even a booth known as "Cary Grant's" as it was literally his spot. They serve the finest pints of Guinness and icon Irish Coffee's that warmed not just your hands, but your heart. Sadly the menu has been reduced and the kitchen will no longer be serving food after tomorrow. The bar will remain open from 5-midnight until they throw in the towel, so run down and give this institution its last kiss. Their hoping to remain through St. Patrick's Day but even that is in question. Hipsters, Hippies and hard working folks for decades have called this local home. The dark wood and shamrock lined roof have kept the memories over the years. It's fireplace made you feel like you were always home or in your granny's. Enough has been written about the history so I'll use this review to say Slainte to this Tom Bergin's and the memories I've made over the years sipping fine pints of Guinness and Irish Coffee wondering about all those names on ceiling and enjoying a fireside laugh. My friend took us here for our most recent last night in LA shindig. We had made it just in time for happy hour and I was so happy I almost cried. Deviled eggs, corned beef balls, all kinds of salty goodness! The Guinnes on draught was superb, as in any situation where Guinness is on draught. Quite luckily, we met fellow Yelper Teejay H, and she and her brother showed us the magic of Blackthorn cider. I love cider because I feel like apple juice might as well be getting you drunk. My boyfriend and I went to this cute pub last week and could not have been more excited to dine in for the first time since our last date out in March. We came in, ordered our drinks and food at the bar and sat in a booth. I ordered the patty melt with fries and an Irish mule. My boyfriend got the Wolfmother burger with fries and Tullamore Dew Irish iced coffee. The food was good! You can't go wrong with the patty melt. I devoured it. I also got to try the Wolfmother burger and the different components and flavors in it worked well together. I could not leave without trying some dessert so we got the bread pudding. It hit the spot! You have to come try the food and drinks here. Aside from the food and drinks, they have their own parking lot which was nice. Was able to walk to this pub for the first time tonight and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food, service and atmosphere that Tom Bergins provided! Since it recently re-opened, I wasn't sure how busy it would be, (I always feel bad for all the half empty restaurants in LA on Friday nights), but it was busy with a great crowd! I love that this pub attracts both young and old. We ordered the horseshoe burger and the fish and chips and both were fantastic! Will be back soon read more

I ate here with my Dad after my husband and I took him to Petersen Auto Museum on Saturday. Even though it was lunch time, it wasn't busy. We were initially seated in a booth, which was so tiny that my 6'2" (and big bellied) dad barely fit into. So after moving to a more comfortable table in the back room (with an active fireplace!), our lunch began. I skipped a beer or cocktail and the friendly server kept our water glasses full. I ordered the burger which was incredibly tasty! Since I'm trying not to eat breads and things at the moment I got the burger on a bed of mixed greens. I was no less impressed by my order. The burger was hefty and really well-seasoned, cooked perfectly medium. I got the daily soup: carrot and sweet potato as my side. It was super smooth and rich. Loved it. My husband got the fish and chips. His fries were the hit of the table! The fish was great-not greasy or mushy-with the right amount of crispy batter. Dad got the egg breakfast with bangers and was totally happy with it too. This place was great! Will definitely pop back into Tom Bergin's when I'm in the area. read more

At the recommendation of my friend I was told to visit this bar. He told me to order the fried chicken sandwich. I cocked my eyebrow as apparently this is an Irish bar. This does not make sense, does it? But seeing is believing. Ordered the fried chicken sandwich with a side of fries. The sandwich was exquisite. It had this purplish slaw, and nicely seasoned batter. The fries had a somewhat sweet kick, especially with their house ketchup. My brief complaints are as followed: 1) bartender broke proper etiquette when he refused to hand me my drink , tab at the table. Instead, he stretched his hand and reached over the bar. 2) He never refilled my water 3) Kinda pricey. 4) I kinda don't like the brioche bun, but the puppy seed top, cut to scale. read more

I only visited twice in 15 years even though live walking distance because I'm not a bar guy but we started coming during Covid and I love it. I just get a Guinness and my wife gets the cider and we eat fish and chips or veggie burgers and I love the Brussels sprouts side, and the ambience in the parking lot is great and I love the entertainment.
