Oh, Tommy's! I like you. I REALLY like YOU! All the Tommy's in Columbus are interesting, because each one will deliver the same product, but each location has it's own little hints of love. It's just subtle changes, but you can tell. This location has the most aggravating parking in the front, so your best bet is to park behind the restaurant and flip off that dude that's totally blocking the through way in the front, because he believes his pizza pick up is much more special than yours. Inside is old school. Nothing fancy, no frills, and again, creepy old picture of dead owner. I dig it. He can watch me eat pizza ANYTIME. This place probably isn't the better location for large groups, unlike their Dublin counter part, but it's a nice hangout for friends and some serious pizza. A good and seriously thin cracker and crunchy crust makes this one of my all time favorites. The owners do not cheap out on the toppings, which explains the nearly extra dollar plus for extra cheese. It's good stuff. My personal favorite: Cheese, meatball and onion. Your life will be changed forever. We order pizza from here weekly... if that says anything. read more

Wow. And I used to categorize this pizza place as one of my favorites in Columbus. Went there tonight for pick up and ordered a chef salad and all the way pizza. When I came home I opened my salad and it was incorrect. Opened my pizza and there was no sausage. Called the pizza place which told me to come back and bring my food so they can verify. Brought it back in- they remade it once I got there. And then told me the pizza was correct?!!? Because the sausage was very small. Give me a break. This place is no longer a go to pizza place- I hope you all think of the poor customer experience before you venture here. read more

My friend and I ate here for the first and last time tonight. I had heard good things about their pizza, it had good reviews, and it's been open forever, so I imagined it would be fantastic. I believe the main issue was that we chose to dine in and order dinner. It might be a perfectly good place to carry out pizza, but if that is the case, they should not even offer dine-in and should definitely not offer dinners. The ambiance was severely lacking. (There really is no ambiance.) But, that wouldn't have mattered if the food was good. I ordered the chicken parmesan. My waitress asked, "the sub?" I said, "Oh, no - the dinner. I didn't realize there was a sub." She said, "Sorry, we just don't get a lot of people that order dinner. Normally people get pizza and subs. I don't think I've ever had someone order that before. I don't even know if it comes with salad or anything." RED FLAG. My friend ordered the ravioli. Another item that apparently had never been ordered before. When our food arrived, I imagine it is what Italian food would look like if you could buy it at Speedway. Our pasta wasn't drained and was soaking wet. There were pools of water in the bottom of both of our bowls coagulating the bland sauce. To say the chicken tasted like a hockey puck would be an offense to hockey pucks everywhere. It seemed to be seasoned with something odd that left an aspartame-like aftertaste. My friend's meatballs were burned, and her ravioli were barely cooked. When our waitress asked how everything was, we told her it wasn't good. She said she had no power to do anything but we could tell the cashier. The cashier didn't give any indication that she cared how our meal was, as when we told her it wasn't good, she just told us our total. I took my leftovers home because I was hoping it would be better reheated and that maybe I could jazz it up somehow. It was not possible. So that was a waste of $12. If the subs and pizza are good and everyone does carry-out, maybe just stick with that and don't offer dinners that you aren't prepared to make. I could've gone down the road to Carsonie's and spent the exact same amount for something delicious, plus ambiance, and courtesy. read more

This is the type of joint that you cannot replicate. This location has been here since 1954 and it was my dad's favorite place when he was a kid, it was our favorite pizza place when I was a kid. Now its one of my kid's favorite places. Tommy's is an institution in UA, no disputing that. As far as the food....salad with house dressing (always great and somethimes, if you're really lucky, you'll get a big core of iceburg lettuce to discard!!) Pizza - where to begin? How about here..."large pepperoni - old oven" That is an insider move to get them to finish the pizza in the big old oven making it "well done". A subtle change, but improves the pie even more!! The crust has been described as "cracker" crust which is pretty accurate. The pepperoni is famous here - spicy and built to hold little hot grease pools (yum!). They don't put a ton of cheese on and the sauce is just right, not too sweet, not too spicy. Also enjoy the sausage and an occaisional slice of veggie pizza. Basically, I've gone to Tommy's since I was born and I'm not stopping. It is a true neighborhood gem that makes unique, awesome pizza with a no frills, classic atmosphere. read more

Going in for a late night pizza on a Sunday. The website says they are open until 11PM. Ordered ahead a large with pepperoni, meatball, and mushrooms. Asked for my pizza to be cooked in the old Blodget oven. My dining partner and I soon arrived and decided to stay and dine in. This dining room and restaurant have one of the plainest interiors on the planet. The dining room most probably has not been remodeled since 1952. Old booths with a few tables are in this dining room, that has a separation for some reason. We are the only ones in the dining room besides three other employees (not sure if they were on or off work) who sat silently in the dining room, two texting on their smart phones, the other with an ipad. One other employee appeared to be the cook, and the other employee appeared to be the cashier/manager. A black and white 12" TV or AM radio broadcast would increase the animation of the environment three-fold. The server/cook came to our table and notified us that our pizza would be done shortly and we once again asked to peruse the fine beer menu. Just like the campus Tommy's, only four choices of beer was available and we ordered a pitcher of Miller Lite, $8.50. The server soon brought the pitcher and two plastic, cracked beer mugs. Excellent. When the pizza arrived it was just what we ordered. A well done pizza with the thin cracker crust that I always remember from Tommy's. The meatballs were different from my experience at the campus location. This time they were cut up into little pieces, allowing for each meatball piece to crisp up, but not really an effective way to handle a meatball on a pizza. It still was a good pizza, but not nearly as good as the pie that I had ordered on campus. Really, about a 3.5 star experiece and still a pretty good pizza. read more

Make no mistake about it, this is not a fancy "California Pizza Kitchen" pizzeria. Tommy's is simply an old fashioned pizzeria with amazing "cracker" crust pizza. No Calzones (their dough isn't the right type for calzones). The subs are good as well. I travel for a living and I have tried -literally - all over the country to find a thin/cracker crust pizza as good as Tommy's and I have yet to find one. Tommy's is one of my two favorite pizza's in Columbus. They do the Midwest style thin crust with rectangle pieces. On a slight digression, what is up with slicing pizza like that? Wedges of pizza are more egalitarian. Everyone gets the same amount of crust and inner pizza. And they're easier to handle. With squares, you have to fight over inner or crust pieces (which works if your date really likes crust and you don't) and your hands get all sauced up. At any rate, the pizza is tasty and not too expensive. I don't think this location delivers, and it still has (as of 4/06 anyway) a smoking area. read more

This place sucks. The people who answer the phone generally are short and rude and they grossly underestimate how long it takes to get a pie. Today they said 35-45 minutes and at 1 hour and 25 minutes it's still not ready! AND it's more expensive than other places. One of the better thin crust pizzas in the Ohio State campus area, in my opinion. The dining area is cramped and not that comfortable, so I prefer to order the pizza as a take out and eat it at home. At $17.25 for a single topping 15" (large) pizza though, it'd be nice if we got coupons from them every now and then. read more

So 3 Stars...Let me explain. My family went here for dinner on Labor Day weekend Sunday. We arrived at 6:15pm. I have 2 young daughters and Tommy's had only 2 high chairs which were being used. Bummer #1. We waited around for a little while until a booster seat became available so at least our oldest could sit down. At the table, we used a baby wipe to clean off the table...it was gross. The table was sticky and the wipe ended up being brown. The booster seat was sticky as well, the carpet was stained and probably smelly (it's a good thing the kitchen was open and baking delicious pizza, otherwise it may have smelled.) We ordered and got our food pretty fast. And I do enjoy Tommy's food. My daughter got chicken fingers, which I thought were very good despite the fact that they were probably frozen. "Who cares", I thought. They tasted good. I got a meatball sub. It was HUGE! Big meatballs with cheese and delicious sauce. My wife got Rigatoni and then we all "shared" a small pizza. And by shared I mean I ate most of it. Tommy's pizza has a nice flaky cracker crust. The sauce on the pizza was plentiful and has a great flavor. It is kind of expensive. $13 for a small pepperoni pizza?! Yikes. But that's what you get for eating locally. Our server, Drew, was very patient with us. We had to keep trading holding our youngest since we didn't have a high chair. He made sure our table was clean and was very attentive to our needs. Would I come back? No, not during a busy dinner time on the weekend. Maybe if I'm on Lane Ave again around lunch on a weekday I'll stop in...perhaps sans children. This used to be one of the best pizza shops in town. However this location is terrible for service just got an Italian Sub to go, I live less than 5 minutes away and by the time I got home and unpacked it the sub was cold. The other problem was the slow service and underestimating of time for food to be ready. If you want to enjoy Tommys Pizza drive 5 extra minutes down Lane Ave. to the campus location the food tastes the same the service is much better and the wait is minimal. read more

Just left the restaurant. The five tables that needed bussed weren't bussed during our 55 minutes in the building. They weren't busy and had what seemed like plenty of staff. Waitress took our two orders of lasagna and said it would be a 35 minute wait, we agreed that would be ok. She went right back and put our orders in. 45 minutes later we asked how much longer on the orders, "oh I don't know what are you timing it?" Was her response. She then informed me she didn't write down the time nor was it exact on the time because it was frozen food. When the food was finally brought out it was watery and not fully warmed through. The rolls had also been over nuked. I would suggest just sticking to their pizza to go read more

Normally I have a good experience but when the waitress has to ask four times what my order is and the 55 minutes after placing my order she announced that she forgot to put it in. I ordered in bulk and a day prior to be considerate, and made sure they understood that I did not need them for the day I was ordering. But guess what... they made it the same day. They called me to let me know that my pizzas were ready, so I told them I did not need them today, and that I needed them tomorrow, and that I was sorry for the misunderstanding. They then said that I was wrong and that I told them today, and then proceeded to hang up on me. I will never ever order pizza from Tommy's again, and I would never recommend it to anyone. My family & I have been very loyal supporters of Tommy's & loving their pizza for more than 50 years. However, that has changed for good after yet another negative experience in the UA Lane Ave location. Over the years, I've always noticed the rudeness & apparent unhappiness of the some of the staff, but I've always overlooked it because of my love of the pizza. However, I am done supporting this business & will never set foot in this restaurant again due to the extreme rudeness, disrespect from staff & total lack of customer service we received recently. It's principle- I won't tolerate spending my hard earned money at a place where I'm treated so poorly. Many of the staff here are family members who should be the most grateful for their loyal patrons & should be carrying on the intended customer service of the original founding owner. But that's not the case. They just don't care. One young waitress, who claims to be the owner's daughter, was heard by myself & several other patrons who were picking up their take out orders saying "I'm so sick of customers coming in here & expecting to be served. They're lucky we're even here today for them & they should quit being such a pain in the ass" Hmmm....customer service IS YOUR JOB so if you don't like it or can't do it, change careers!!! Needless to say, everyone who heard her was appalled! We waited nearly 90 minutes for our table & never got served. The manager knows the reason for this & should be ashamed of herself for how she handled the situation. Being in a management position means knowing when to reprimand an out of control employee & apologizing to the loyal customers who should have been treated with kindness & gratitude after a 90 minute wait. The pizza is great & has always been one of my favorites, but there are plenty of other great restaurants that actually know the proper way to treat customers & who truly appreciate the support of their business. This is most definitely not the case at this location of Tommy's Pizza. And it certainly wouldn't hurt to clean & update the place a little. It's filthy in there. For those of you who have been loyal supporters of Tommy's pizza for decades like us, do yourself a favor & pay attention to how you are treated when you dine in or even when you pick up. Maybe you don't care, but your support of a business should ALWAYS be appreciated. We had heard a lot of good things about Tommy's before going to Columbus for the OSU v. Michigan game. We headed over on the Friday evening before around 6:30 and waited for about 20 mins. Seeing a wait at that time of evening was a good sign. They were down a server so the service was kind of slow once we got seated, but we liked our server. We ordered the onion rings which were clearly frozen packaged rings. Then we got a cheese pizza and it was quite mediocre. I enjoyed going to a pizza place that has a lot of history in Columbus, but we won't be heading there again. read more

My favorite pizza in Columbus. I also love the Italian Sub and Spaghetti and Meatballs. Especially the meatballs! It's a satisfyingly thin cracker-crust. And oh my goodness, the toppings. Go for straight up pepperoni (yes, they curl up and little pools of grease form within) or get Sausage and Onion. The meatballs are perfection. Some of the time I skip the whole spaghetti part and just get a meatball. I also like to get their housemade italian dressing. Shake that stuff well! It has an oil to vinegar ratio that would even make Mario Batali blush. read more

Columbus is pizza central - we have anything from Chicago style to New York foldable...but nobody compares to Tommy's! The restaurant has plenty of parking in the front and in the back lot. The service is quick. And the pizza is the best. Cracker crispy crust, great sauce, and bubbly cheese. The salad is superb as well-dont forget to ask for the house made ranch dressing. read more

Tommy's pizza is good pizza. The first time I had a Tommy's Pizza was in a packed Tommy's during the St. High School B-Ball Tourny and we didn't have a whole lotta time. The place was so busy my dad and I were able to pound close to a pitcher of beer before / during our pizza scarfing and it went together PERFECTLY. I think this is the location further down Lane - more into Upper Arlington but I have had take-out 'za from here as well and it is still every bit as good as the dine-in 'za in the campus Tommy's. Honestly, I think it is actually a little better if you drive it home before you dig in. It comes out so hot the pie has time to finish cooking itself and cool down a little bit and still goes just as well with the beers at home ;) read more

Grew up on this stuff. Mom loves it. After seeing a movie at AMC Lennox, we would always stop by Tommy's and order a pie to go. This is only the second pizza joint to get a five-star review from me (Hounddog's is the other); others come close, but there's always something missing. I'm not sure what it is, but Tommy's has something that most other places don't. Atmosphere: This place is a dive. There's no questioning it, it's a dive. This location's in Upper Arlington, so it gets some fancier customers than the other locations, but you know you're in a laid-back, divey kinda place as soon as you walk in the door. Service: I haven't had bad service from Tommy's yet, whether I'm dining in or ordering for pickup, and I've done both. The staff might not be talkative, but they're busy taking care of other customers. They do a good job taking care of me and whomever I'm with, so I can't complain when they're in a hurry. Food: I haven't had anything else but their pizzas, but holy wow, their pizzas are phenomenal. Light buttery crust with just enough crunch, amazing sauce, and a huge variety of toppings. I've had everything but the kitchen sink when it comes to their pies, and I've never been disappointed. Parking: Their parking lot here is tiny, and it is PACKED when they're slammed. Holy moley is this one of the best places to get pizza in Columbus. The standard pepperoni is probably the best you'll have had in a long time. So, go try it. There are a few negatives about this place, though. The first is the price. Although the pizza is very filling (somewhat surprisingly so), it's still pretty expensive. Second is the store itself. Don't expect anything fancy if you're coming to eat in the store. It's probably better to order it and pick it up. Be prepared for that, too, though, because it can get very, very busy. read more
