Haven't written a Yelp review since the pandemic started, but the customer service I received here tonight definitely compelled me. I ordered a pepperoni pizza tonight, and immediately after placing the order via DoorDash.... I called the store to let them know I had a shellfish allergy. The woman that answered explained that she can't guarantee they won't cut my pizza after cutting into shrimp. I said "can you please just wash the knife first?" To which she said, you'll have to talk to a manager. Put me on hold. And no one ever came on the line. Now I'm on on the phone with DoorDash trying to cancel this order. One star for the one and only time I'll ever attempt to order from Tommy's Pizza. Never again. read more

Definitely overrated. The inside is very dirty. The carpet in the dining room had lots of food smushed on it. The menu needs to be updated. They don't have certain toppings one would expect at a pizza place. We ordered a large pizza with bacon. Not sure if the bacon is real bacon as it looked like bacon bits. (Could be imitation bacon...) We requested "the old oven" to get crispy pizza. It was definitely crispy. read more

As another reviewer said, this place is all about the pizza. If I were judging on customer service or ambiance it would be much lower rating, but plan ahead and call early on weekends and take your food home to eat. They do text you now when it is ready, so that is helpful. The sausage and pepperoni are both great, the ranch dressing on the salads is amazing, and the garlic cheesy bread is incredible. You have to kind of embrace the character of this place which hasn't changed since I started going over 30 years ago. If you want a nice sit down restaurant and A+ customer service you will likely be disappointed, but if you want great pizza (and certain other items on the menu), it is tops in my book. read more

I used to work seasonally in Vermont. My then-girlfriend, now wife, bought four Tommy's Pizzas, drove straight to the airport with them in her carry-on luggage. She flew to Burlington (with all the passengers demanding the flight crew to serve them whatever smelled so good). She escaped unscathed as they could not figure out where the aroma was coming from. And after a drive, brought the pizzas to my friends and me. Now, I had not seen her weeks, so as we greeted one another, my friends decided to eat one of the now unguarded pizzas. They then decided they would eat the second one - half for them, half for us. With so many of them and so few of us, they ate the third thinking leaving us one was pretty fair. They apparently rationalized eating the last one by saying "they live in Columbus and can eat more of these; we're from England, Netherlands, France, New York, etc.., so hell with them." Seeing those empty pizza boxes was like the dad in Christmas Story seeing the Bumpus hounds run off with his turkey. That's how good Tommy's Pizza is. You'd steal it from a friend and have an excuse as you're doing it. Bastards. On a lighter note, they all demand Tommy's when they visit Columbus. But still, pretty uncool. read more

I ordered a large pepperoni (nothing extra) through Doordash at 5:51 Friday evening. I finally arrived at 8:40 (nearly 3 hours later!!!). My poor doordash driver waited over 45 minutes in their parking lot. I called and was hung up on a dozen times. I was finally told it would be out of the oven in a couple minutes at 8:30. I apologized to my doordash driver and promised him a nicer tip for his wasted time. The pizza arrived 10 minutes later COLD! I ended up giving the driver $15 for a $18 pizza that was burned on the edges and needed microwaved to eat. I am finally done with Tommy's. It really used to be amazing, but I would never recommend it now. Tonight was just terrible all around. read more

Went on a Friday at 1p. There were 5 of us. Sign said no groups of 6 or more...(??). Ok asked woman we will just sit at two tables no big deal. (Had 3 more coming). She said no. You can't. Pizza is good if you like a crispy thin crust - almost a cracker crust. Ordered pickup and had pretty quick service with a smile.

Before this past weekend, it had probably been over a decade since I'd had Tommy's Pizza, and I don't know what in the hell took me so long to try it again. I have fond memories of having team dinners after youth hockey and baseball seasons at the Dublin location, and I always thought the pizza was good from what I could remember. Well flash forward 15 years, and I'm looking for some pizza I don't usually get, and I knew it had to be Tommy's. It's literally 5 minutes from my house, and my roommate always went on about how it's his favorite pizza. I ordered a pepperoni and onion pizza with one-half with jalapenos to go as well as their cheesy garlic bread. It only takes them about 20 minutes to fill the order which is pretty awesome. I'm a big fan of delivery, which this location does not have, and that's probably the main reason I haven't tried it sooner. Man, that pizza was super crispy, cheesy, meaty, and delicious. They don't skimp out with tiny jalapenos either; you get huge ones that looks like they throw on after baking, and it works. It was the first time my girlfriend had ever tried Tommy's, and she's now a huge fan. I will say though that the garlic bread was pretty underwhelming. There wasn't a strong garlic flavor, and the cheese on top wasn't very tasty, so I'll probably avoid that one next time. Go check out Tommy's! There's a reason it's been in business for over half a century, and it's because they make some great pies. It's a Columbus staple, so here's to it being around for another 50 years. read more

"Matty's Big 10 Pizzas of Columbus": I am a bit of a fanatic when it comes to the old school pizza joints here in the capital city. The franchise chains and sell-outs (Donato's and Rotolo's) have nothing on the original pizza parlors that serve up our uniquely Ohio take on a true pie; thin crust, toppings to the edge, and the square "city" cut. That being said, there are very few of these family-owned establishments left, and even fewer that I haven't tried at least once. My quest this summer is tough work; to hit as many as possible and rate the very best. Tommy's in Arlington is the original location and has and has easily earned a spot in my "Big 10" with a pizza shop so classic and simple, it really hasn't changed much over the years. This is where my earliest memories of delicious hot pizza, subs, and salads all started. I consider Tommy's pizza to be the gold standard of the classic style pizza I crave and no "Best-of" list would be complete without this joint near the top! read more

I don't know what it is about Tommy's pizza. Maybe it's because I have been raised on it and it IS my mother's favorite pizza. If I ever want to be The Favorite Son, I'll get a large pepperoni and cheese pizza and drive it up to her in Akron. Yes, she lives in Akron - a far more ethnic and Italian area - and she loves pizza from Columbus. But let attempt to explain why... None of the locations is anything special. As a matter of fact, some of them are kind of a dive. This location has been on the edge of Upper Arlington and OSU's west campus for years, so it has acquired some "posh". And by "posh", I mean they have clean tables and somewhat friendly servers. But onto the pizza... The crust is crispy and thin. The cheese and sauce are not over-powering, but the PEPPERONI - ah the pepperoni - I don't know where they get it, but it is unlike any other in both taste and preparation. They .almost. burn it when they cook it - so it is crispy. There is lots of it and it makes the pizza (the P+C one, at least. In my four decades, I've never tried any other kind here). Everything else is pretty good and inexpensive. Just to make one other comment about this place: I live in Dallas and Tommy's is one of my "must-visits" when I come to Columbus. read more

I wanted to like this. It came highly recommended but the sauce tasted canned and salty with no depth. The crust was bitter like the flour was old or something and barely held up enough to pick it up. Not my cup of tea. It was too expensive for pizza that tasted like frozen. I grew up three blocks from Tommy's pizza and my buddy worked there too, so I ate plenty of their pies and subs over the years. We made the obligatory stop at Tommy's while in Columbus for a game. Tommy's bakes their crust so hot and long that it becomes crackly on the bottom, a little like the outside of a totally fresh french baguette. Sometimes they overdo it and the crust becomes a cracker thru-and-thru but tonight the crust was perfect, still doughy soft in the middle while crispy on the bottom. The toppings were generous and fresh, like fresh mushrooms and lots of cheese. And the pepperoni slices did their usual trick of curling up in the high heat into tiny little bowsl of spicy grease! The food and beer are cheap and the place is always busy. But it's a dive, there's just no other word to describe it, the booths and tables date from about 1990 with dirt accumulated over the years, the carpet is scattered with lots of detritus from the previous customers and the waitresses are just too busy to make more than a token effort to clean anything off. Come for a quick bite, bring the family, wear your OSU gear but don't look too closely under the table. read more

The food is good but the restaurants pick/carry out is horrible they have you stand outside no matter the weather conditions rain or hot as heck they are slow and can be rude on bad days people don't social distances when they have you wait outside and they are very inconsiderate to the people they have waiting outside i really hope management sees this because this restaurant need a better carry out pick up routine on top of thought guys making people wait outside you say you'll bring it out to you but they only bring it out the door if your going to have a horrible routine at least actually bring it to people and stop being lazy read more

Ate here on a trip to Ohio, and stopped due to the great yelp reviews. Well, I'm glad to say I wasn't disappointed. When I first rolled into the parking lot there was not one parking spot open. While an icon in Columbus, tonight's experience was horrible. Starting from the order process I had a feeling I should just move on. After the (not exaggerating) 31x attempts to call in the order because the line was busy, the order taker was abrupt and flat out demanding. She sounded less interested in my order and more focused on telling new calls to hold. When we got our pizza, just bad. From the crater like bare spots from the huge unpopped air bubbles, to the sparse toppings (including cheese and sauce) the pie was ugly. Lastly, the crust was so brittle it tasted like a hard taco from Condados. Super Dry and a waste of money. I'm sure if this continues, the girl taking my order will get her wish and business will slow. 2nd time this has happened at the Lane Avenue location and probably the last time. Sad. read more

While their pizza is still solid and we get it from time to time, there's so many other options for good pizza in the UA/Grandview area. Also, Tommy's customer service has gone way downhill lately, they just don't seem to care anymore. We told you 40 mins and it's been 90 is standard operating procedure these days. read more

I grew up in Columbus, but had never eaten at Tommy's before. My family and I tried it over the weekend after going to Half Price Books nearby. Wow! The crust is amazing. It was thin and cracker-like, but not dried out, with a yeasty taste. We tried a medium pizza half cheese, half pepperoni. I love the type of pepperoni they used--the kind that curls up and forms little cups after it's baked. The sauce was ok--a little sweet. We also tried the meatball sub--wasn't as impressed with that as much as the pizza. All in all, a great experience and we plan to go back again. read more

The pizza is great but I recommend a different delivery service. DoorDash has not taken responsibility for an obvious mistake by their driver. Order was for two pizzas. Per Tommy's employee, driver left location with only one and could not be contacted on the phone. Credit card was full charge plus tip. Repeated attempts to resolve with DoorDash has resulted in no refund as of yet. Tommy's will do well to find a more professional business to compliment their excellent pizza! read more

This was our first time coming to Tommy's. After hearing great things about it for the past couple of years living here we decided to finally try it out. What a huge disappointment. We got a 15 inch sausage pizza with fries and onion rings as appetizers. First off, the appetizers came after the pizza. At that point it's no longer an appetizer it's a side. It should not take as long as a pizza to cook and bring out to us. The apps were very basic. Which is fine. For 3 bucks you get what you pay for. The pizza was mediocre at best. It wasn't bad but again, no where remotely impressive about it. Especially for the price. 17 bucks for a 15 inch? No thank you. The worst was the service. Keep in mind, we came here at 2. It was not busy at all. The service was soooo slow. Like I mentioned already, apps came after the pizza. Pizza came about 15 minutes after we ordered which Is normal for a pie. Not normal for appetizers. We finished our drinks and waited for our waiter to come over and check on us which was a rare occassion. He finally does and me and asks if we want refills. Yes please. It took him close to 10 minutes to finally give us our refills. Which by the way, was only because another person had to remind him that we were still waiting for them despite him repeatedly passing our table. Once we were finally got done eating. We wanted to box everything up for later. Well that took a good while because our waiter again, never decided to check up on us. I finally just got up and asked him can we have a box. Paid at the counter and left the building with no intention of ever coming back. This place was a huge disappointment for us. A lot of people said how this was supposed to be the best pizza in town. Honestly, that claim is nuts. This is no where the best pizza. We feel we wasted our time and 30 bucks at this joint when that could have gone to a much better, a much cheaper pizza. Giant Eagle market district has 16 inch pizzas for 8 bucks down the street. I'll take that any day over this poor excuse of a pizza joint. Heck, Pizza Hut is across the street. I guess it's good for what it is - cheap, campus area food, but other than that, don't bother. We have order from tommy pizza for probably 25 years at least. I live on the other side of town almost to Easton. I ordered a half baked pepperoni black olive and half onion pizza. When I arrived they said oh sorry we make it I said no problem. Will just reheat it when I get home. I arrived home to find out that my pepperoni magically turned into mushrooms. My husband doesn't eat mushrooms. I called tommy they said the only one thing that could do for me is if I drove back across town and they would give me a full refund. The Tommy's faithful are going to lynch me; I find Tommy's Pizza's pizza bland. Bland, bland, bland. The crust is bland. The sauce is bland. Even edge-to-edge, peppery, upturned pepperoni can't save the pizza. Two good points: the toppings are fairly generous and the crust has a nice, light crunch to it. The inside is cramped. I'm 6'5'', so it's easy to be cramped in a restaurant, but I'm not talking about legroom. It's everything-room. Tommy's put out as many tables as it could physically fit. I'm not even convinced the fire department approves of it. Some of the waitstaff, or maybe most of it, have been waiting Tommy's tables for decades. There's definitely history in every inch of Tommy's, especially when it comes to Ohio State. If you thought this review was funny, then it was my doing. If any of my family sees this, they are going to crucify me. That is because, for most of my family, including my grandfather, this is the best pizza ever made. So whenever the family is in town, this is where we meet. And they get unbaked ones to take home with them. I just can't seem to get into it. Maybe because I grew up with other pizzas this one just doesn't seem as good. I don't know. I just know that I've had other pizzas that I like better. The service is really good though.
