Personally, I did not like the German potato salad - wayyy too much vinegar and not enough other flavor- and the paprika dumplings were rather bland. I love that they have a little shop to buy the hotdogs, sauce, chili, pickles, and other souvenirs like shirts and keychains. Every time I'm in Toledo I stop for a hotdog and a beer and grab a few packs to-go! Staff is always nice and friendly. A few people love to chat about the hotdog bun signatures and the history of the place which is neat. I like looking at all the memories posted on the walls and reading the signatures they have collected over the years. Everyone in Toledo knows that if you want a traditional chili dog you go to Rudy's. For chili Mac you go to Ideal Hot Dog. But when you want something similar but different you go to Packos! A packo's dog just hits your soul different. Their chili Mac is special. The chicken paprikas is so good and comparable to my family's recipe. The servers are always friendly and willing to help you make decisions. The decor at the original restaurant on front street is eclectic and I love it. There are signed hotdog buns on all of the walls of celebrities that have been there (national and local) and they are at all of their locations. The front street restaurant pays respect to local legend Jamie Farr and has cardboard cutouts that make for great selfies. A fun, staple restaurant when visiting Toledo. I would say a must visit. Atmosphere is a fun, casual, themed restaurant. I recommend taking the time to check out all the signed hotdog buns and the gift shop. I even picked up some canned brittany-tomatoes for a gift. Two of us ate lunch there and we both went with the HOT DOG PLATTER. The world-famous Pack's Hungarian hot dog with mustard, diced onions, and topped with their famous sauce, a cup of chili and a side ($11.59). For the side I chose the CHICKEN SOUP WITH HUNGARIAN DUMPLINGS. I was not fan so switched out for the Mac & Cheese. The PACKO'S WORLD-FAMOUS CHILI is really salty but it's good. You can get some cheese and sour cream if you want. Coolest thing is they let you sample any of the sides or pickles and will swap out the side at no cost if you don't like it. Locals know and If you are from out of town, or just passing thru, I totally recommend eating here. If nothing else it is one of the cool stops to check off the list of things you got to do while in Toledo. It's pretty cool. Such a fun experience to visit the iconic Tony Packo's! The space is much bigger than you would imagine from the outside and so many tables! Service was good and quick it seemed. I enjoyed the packo dog, it was a surprise with the dog being like a kielbasa. I will be buying them again. The paprika dumplings on the other hand, I could live without. Stopped here while coming through and looking for a late lunch. I wouldn't say it was in a glamorous part of town - several mill like buildings and some wide open spaces - so parking wasn't an issue. From the outside it looks like a small place - and then you walk in. Very large, plenty of seating with a gift shop and large stage like seating too. I will say the biggest issue is the menu which to a person who is a first-timer is hard to navigate. It would be helpful to explain why each item is, what comes with what etc. The waitress was nice and did help though. We ordered pierogi to start - which were good - a little different and the paprika was a nice touch. For my meal, I got two of the original hot dogs and a side of macaroni and cheese. They were out of potato salad. The hot dogs are thick casing half-sliced hot dogs covered in chili and onions with mustard. I thought the casing was great and the spice in the sauce had a good zing to it. We got two cookies to go and hit the road. Very confusing place! Rude employees! Food was ok but the bartender was horrible! We waited in line, she ignored us and then finally said she wasn't taking any more drink orders because she had to go make some food! Saturday February 27th, Tony and I made our way to the Original Tony Packo's Cafe in East Toledo Ohio, made famous by Jamie Farr as Klinger on MASH. Very large parking lot. They are definitely enforcing Covid-19 restrictions with social distancing and mask requirements by employees and guest. We went inside and got on the list, about a 20 minute wait. One way in, one way out. We had to wait in our car and they text you. Once we were seated ( our first visit ever), we were able to place our order. Tony went with chicken n' dumplings and the original Tony Packo Hot Dog add cheese (a Hungarian sausage) and I choose the Packo's Feast...I went with a Ball Park style weiner with my Tony Packo's Hot Dog no cheese, with my cabbage roll and bowl of chili. I wish I had substituted the bowl of chili for cucumber salad. Everything tasted fine. They put pickles beside everything which was a spicy bread and butter style pickle with Hungarian banana peppers. Seemed weird at first, but it worked!!! They tasted very good with my cabbage roll. In fact, that was my favorite the Hungarian Cabbage Roll with pickles and peppers. Hot Dog was good, but NOT the best Hot Dog that I ever ate....sorry Tony!!! But a huge A+++++ on those Cabbage Rolls. Tony was very upset with the dumplings. It was more of a brothy chicken soup NOT dumplings the way we are used lol....we like our chicken n' dumplings thick with a heavy gravy sauce. I drank soda and Tony had beer...total ticket was $35 food, taxes and tips. If in the area again, I would try another restaurant unless craving those pickles. I don't usually write reviews; I just don't go back if I'm disappointed. But I feel compelled to write about my experience today with Tony Packo's. I don't drive anymore, so I have food delivered. The cabbage rolls were red inside; but even more disappointing , I was charged $6 for about a tablespoon of mashed potatoes. . I think my patronage has run its course. First time at Tony Pacho's for dinner. Good history here with plenty of signed hot dog buns by famous patrons. My wife and I split a roast beef platter. She had a bowl of Chicken Dumpling soup and I had to try their famous hot dog. Everything was good including the Hungarian potato salad. Not as good as it once was and is hyped. Walked in and requested a booth. Nope got put at a table despite open booths available. One dog platters ordered with cups of chili with cheese and onions on both. Chili came no onions or cheese and they now serve little packets of oyster crackers vs the little bowls. Dogs came and no cheese (onions are standard) and had to request it. Sausages seem smaller and less chili provided. At least we did get a few pickles and the sides we ordered. This location is the original and it was packed the day after Christmas. I assume because people are off and it's a place you want to take out of town guests. So Tony Packo's is like somewhat legendary in the Toledo area me being a newbie to the state I'd never heard of them but me being me I'll always find what's good and try it! My first meet with Tony Packo's was actually at the grocery store as I just wanted a can of chili seeing the basic generic brands that I just really don't like I looked a little harder and I found some cans of their chili after reading what it was all about on the can I put it in my basket and ate it sometime later at home seeing that this was one of the better can chili's I've had I looked the restaurant up and added it to my bookmarks knowing that sometime later I'd pay them a visit! Coming here I really didn't know what to expect other than some good chili and to be honest it was much more than that as they are doing it right here and have been for many years! For the start we ordered fried pickles as those are pretty much some of my favorite things and when I come across them I generally get them here they were perfect big pickle chunks that were fried perfectly with a side of spicy ketchup and ranch to dip them in from this I'm gathering they make their own pickles as they are selling them this probably the reason they were soo good! Of the combos I went with the Hot Dog Combo and it was the right choice as I got a side of their yummy chili with some cheese on top a dog with chili and cheese and a side of these dumplings that had gravy on them all in all this was a good amount of food! The hot dog though was where it was at as it had the perfect amount of chili on it with mustard inside the bun as well as some cheese and onions to make it perfect but the dog it self was really where it was at as it was like a slice of a kielbasa sausage that had a snap with each bite into it's deliciously flavorful goodness! Overall this was a great stop and really something that was one of the better chili places I've been to over the years it's forshures that I hope to come back here again as it was yummy but next tome it's nothing else other than hot dogs I'm ordering as those were just awesome so until then I'll continue to buy their chili at the store! read more

Our first time here and our waitress really took the time to explain the menu and offer suggestions. I feel like service nowadays seems to be slipping in many places so it was nice to have someone who you could tell really appreciated the history and the food and took the time to share this with us. In Toledo- must try the original, right? No. You actually don't have to. We went on a Sunday afternoon after visiting the Museum before going back home. The host was present and kinda grumpy. maybe she was having a bad day. The food was heavy and not really good. Maybe just not my taste. Our server stopped by once to check on us and both our drinks were empty for quite some time. Drinks never got refilled. Overall the place was dirty and the furniture and floors greasy. Man, this place is historic! My dad took me here as a child. It is my first time back in a very very long time. My grandma used to watch M*A*S*H religiously. Tony Packo's is a pretty decent experience for both food and history. The original location has a strange, yet impressive, wall-mounted collection of hot dog buns that have been autographed by loads of celebrities including US Presidents. The place also has a connection to the show MASH as Klinger hails from Toledo and raved about the place on several episodes. The restaurant itself is old school but has been kept in great shape. There's a nice little bar area as well. The food is pretty good but it's not the most authentic Hungarian you'll find. The service was friendly and the food arrived quickly. First impression: Come only for the hot dogs. We weren't impressed by the Chicken Paprikas or Stuffed Cabbage. The chicken paprikas tasted like campbells noodle soup with somewhat tasteless dough balls. Stuffed cabbage was also OK but the taste became monotonous with every bite. Cherry strudel was alright - the cherries tasted good but the strudel was doughy inside & noticeably not buttery. I liked the pickles - they were intensely sour, but would not recommend the side of cucumber (served in some sort of watery sauce). Going through Toledo and heard this place was famous so we tried it. Ordered online for a later pickup time but when we arrived the food had been sitting there an hour. So they made it on the spot which took like 5 mins. So we got a chicken sandwich, pierogis, spaetzle, coleslaw, soup, cabbage with tomato sauce, chicken chili, and strudel. Came here on a Saturday night during a road trip home with family. I found this place on the Diners Drive Ins and Dives website and knew it looked like a spot we couldn't miss, and boy was I right! Our waitress Stephanie was beyond helpful. She was so sweet and attentive and went out of her way to help us multiple times. We loved looking around the restaurant at all of the signed hot dogs buns and the little shop in the back had so many cute varieties of shirts and things! The food was delicious. I got the Packo's Hungarian Hot Dog w/ a side of Mac and cheese and the chicken dumpling soup. I loved the soup and the Mac and cheese, the hotdog was a bit difficult to eat but ... only because I just got a filling at the dentist and the casing made the bites a little more difficult than a normal hot dog.
