This place sucks. They make the shakes so thick, you cannot suck them thru a straw. I ask them to dilute this overly sugared saccharine tasting sub-par shake, and she looks at me robotically and lamely drones "dats how it comes out. Wanna spoon?". I don't want a spoon, its not a dish of ice cream! Then the dried out onion rings..a lot..and pretty darn tasteless. I asked "do you have any dipping sauce other than ketchup?" She hypnotically answers as if in trance "we have ranch, but we charge for it. It's. 68" Not coming back here for sure!!! More wasting of dollars definitely earned. This was my first time going to Tops and I was recommended by this place by other yelpers. I am currently on the quest of breakfast burritos as that is currently my thing at the moment. I compare everything against Lucky Boy breakfast burritos and my order is always bacon and sausage. So breakfast is only served until 11 AM, so this includes the breakfast burrito. I came here around 10:30 AM on a Saturday so I barely made it. The drive through is pretty long and it extends out to the street. The parking lot has plenty of space, but the entrance gets blocked by the drive through. You can also enter on Walnut to avoid this. So for the burrito itself, it's a decent size. Cutting it open you will see that its core is mostly potato, which I'm not a fan of because it's just fillers. The bacon and sausage bits surround it. The egg tasted a bit too salty and too dry in my opinion. They aren't soft and fluffy like competitors. I'm not a fan of sausage bits in my breakfast burrito, but that's a personal choice. Also the burrito comes with green sauce on the side. It seems like it's made in house because there was cilantro pieces in mine, which doesn't happen from store bought. The restaurant itself is nice and clean. Plenty of booths and remind me of an old fashion American diner. Overall, it was A-OK. read more

I went here today on my lunch break and let me tell you I had the best bacon cheese burger combo. The service was pretty fast for me. I got there about 12:30pm & I was able to go in the drive thru fairly quickly. Maybe it was luck. The store looks really big on the outside & the gentleman who took my order was really nice. I've been coming here for over 30 years and if my memories are accurate this place used to be good. Their chili cheese fries should be renamed fries with hardly any chili. After the thin layer of chili and cheese is gone it's just a box of stale tasting fries. Same goes for their 3 way spaghetti except instead of fries I was left with a bunch of noodles. The last pastrami sandwich (which was a go-to for me) I got, the pastrami seemed to be reheated a few times too many and the roll was burnt. I'm talking burnt to the point where the burnt taste actually over powered the pastrami. The roll should have definitely been trashed and replaced with a new one. The most recent gripes that have are for the breakfast burritos. The last two times I got these, I can officially say were the worst breakfast burritos that I've ever had in my life. Ordered the bacon breakfast burrito and I thought I was given a vegetarian burrito with under done bland potatoes. Then a week ago I got the same burrito and I thought I was given a vegetarian burrito a second time. After looking closely I realized that there was bacon but that it was being camouflaged by the potatoes, so much so that their bland taste covered up any bacon taste. A sniper wouldn't have been able to do a better job. I didn't finish either of those. Why 2 stars? Because at least their onion rings and zucchini are still decent. Came here for their steak salad. So good and filling. The salad comes with so much ingredients it'll fill you up halfway through it. Your place has been a great place to get food from. My mom although unable to get out anymore is a huge fan. So i come into town once a week and get food to take to her. Unfortunately the last 3 Wednesdays (including this morning), my orders have not been successful. I typically order a chili cheeseburger along with a bowl of chili for my mom. 2 weeks ago, i ended up with a regular burger (no chili on it). I figured I confused the lady when ordering and I mentally moved on. Last week, I tried again, and was much more repetitive concerning the 2 items but once again, no chili on the burger. Because receipts aren't ever provided, I have no idea if I'm even being charged for them or I'm getting exactly what's being typed in - but it's not what I want. So today I asked for the chili-cheeseburger, emphasized the chili, said no pickles or tomatoes. Did not order a bowl of chili but instead a salad. Ordered 2 drinks: small iced tea, large dirt coke, no ice. When read back to me, it was almost entirely incorrect. So I repeated what I wanted, got a financial total (but not read back of the items). At the window, the large drink was wrong (cherry, not diet, and with ice), the burger for the 3rd straight week, did not have chili on it, it did have pickles (which i asked twice to not have). I'd have pursued this privately with you but saw no email addresses. It's been the same lady at the window each of the last 3 weeks - she's clearly multi-tasking but she's not getting any more accurate. :( read more

still the same satisfying joint after not having it for 20 years! i had to drop off my dad at flemings on colorado and thought i'd pick up some food in pasadena on the way home. i used to live and work in the area in the early 20 aughts and haven't had tops burger since i moved so i thought i'd pick some up for nostalgia and admittedly wanted to see how they held up after reading some lackluster reviews. surprisingly there wasn't a line at the drive thru at all like there used to be which was good. i got a carne asada burrito w extra cheese and chili cheese fries with raw onions, one of my go to orders back in the day. (oh and a large orange bang too!) they do charge a little more for credit (not sure if its the same for debit) but the charge is pennies to the dollar so its not too bad. the food was just as i remembered. it didn't seem like they changed their recipes at all. asada burrito had good steak chunks full of flavor, cheese, and pico de gallo. not a big deal, but there was no extra cheese in it. it seemed that the extra cheese wound up in the chili cheese fries and there were no raw onions- still delicious so i wasn't upset at all. glad that a place i used to frequent and enjoy has not changed too much! hope to return again for some more comfort food! read more

Old school, cozy, nostalgic greasy spoon. The prices were super low, especially compared to fast food these days, so I'm factoring prices into my score. The menu was huge so it was hard to narrow down our choices. It was well staffed by friendly people and the food came out quickly, hot and fresh. The cheeseburger was simple and classic. Lots of crispy lettuce and pickles, which I appreciate. I wouldn't seek it out, but for $6, which is less than most fast food burgers these days, it's pretty darn good. 4/5 The gyro was good but not authentic (not that I'm surprised). It sort of had a Mediterranean pico de gallo situation on it and the tzatziki tasted like it had mayo in it, but I'm not sure about that. I did detect dill, which helped. Would eat again if in the mood. 3/5 The chili cheese fries were the star. Ample skinny fries, generous cheese, and the chili had real pieces of green chilies. It's sad how many chilies are absent of chilies except the faintest sprinkle of cayenne. The food was bland overall we order the club sandwhich and zucchini were subpar and a grilled chicken salad the chicken was hard and chewy in both the salad and sandwhich and over cooked. the lettuce, bell peppers, onion, cucumber and tomato's were cut in big chunks for the salad hard to eat you had to cut it once you received it, not appetizing thought it would be fresh salad for the hot day but it look like lettuce was sitting out didn't seem fresh it wasn't crispy or crunchy at all and the ranch has a smoky flavor and one of the ranch's were chunky. Say what you want about Tops but it's a staple when I'm in the area. Food has never been disappointing. Fresh crisp fries in abundance. Never skimps on the avocado. Even though the price is similar to a sit down burger place, the quality is always consistent and I'm happy to pay the premium. I can't say much about the service. I was starving so NO, I was not happy with the amount of cheese on my "grilled cheese". I ordered this sandwich because I was craving the bacon grilled cheese sandwich that Lucky Boys sells but Lucky Boys was closed. I figured it was not hard to make but I was truly truly disappointed with the grilled cheese. They forgot the bacon so I had to drive back for the bacon (it's okay; mistakes can happen) but the amount of cheese or LACK of cheese was incredible. There was also no "rest of the cheese" on the other bread. Also, the bread was pretty dry since usually grilled cheese are made with butter but dry bread wasn't too bad. I don't usually buy anything here at this Tops except for the breakfast burritos; and that is only because the other Tops is farther away from my home. The ranch here is completely off, there is a seasoning that reminded me of Zankou, which means we're in the wrong recipe already. Super off-putting. The good is the menu has a much larger selection to choose from. The drinks are generous (check the Mai Tai's) however it is just not the same as the old Damon's! First time at this Tops location. Tried their Bacon Avocado Cheeseburger last week via drive thru. The ordering and pickup went smoothly. The burger was well constructed and had generous amounts of bacon and avocado. It was big for $10. But I don't like the taste of their special sauce. I think it has ranch dressing in it, so it tastes too sweet for me. And the bacon had little smoke-flavor. That's why I have bacon on my burger. Overall, it was ok to pretty good but not a burger I liked enough to have again. I may return to try the steak sandwich. It looks good for the price. read more

We went to the original tops 2 days ago, it was literally some of the best food I've ever had. We came today thinking we were going to the same one. We pulled in and thought it couldn't be too different right? WRONG. Literally not even comparable. The pastrami at the original tops was in a few words, perfection, big juicy slices, tender, made with ACTUAL LOVE. This location is stringy, tiny little shredded pieces. The sweet potato fries were the real disappointment though, the fries at the original tops were without a doubt the best fries I've ever had thick cut perfectly cooked fries. The ones here tasted underdone and frozen. Had we come here for our first trip we may have been underwhelmed at the least, but coming here after going to the original, it was honestly disappointing and almost insulting that they can slap the same name on it. read more

Came back after years. The pastrami breakfast burrito was great, although we ordered one late evening and it was a bit dry. Ordered one in the morning and it was nicely moist. The pastrami burger was moist and had a lovely taste thanks to the thousand island dressing. Better pastrami burger that Original Tops which is bland. I wouldn't say the pastrami is better but they are both great so you're not missing out by eating here versus the original tops. They also have Argentine alfajor cookies which were a nice unique dessert option. Service was quick. Only gone through drive-thru so I can't say how the indoor dining experience is. New favorite local spot. Can't wait to try more breakfast items. read more

However I decided to give them a second try a few days ago because they're one of the few drive throughs that are still open post "6pm curfew" placed by LA County (thank you for that). Portion: 5/5 They have extremely large portion for all their side dishes, and even their burgers and sandwich are filling! They fill the take out box all the way and leave no empty space! You're for sure getting what you paid for. The zuchini fries actually still held its crisp the next day when i microwaved it, which was extremely unexpected! And all the side orders comes with free ranch included?! Quality: 5/5 The first time I went there, the problem was their burger and sandwich is too dry. Tops have been my favorite place for chili cheese fries since my college days. My sister introduces me to this place and over the years, it is still my favorite. You can order the chili cheese fries in three different sizes. It comes in jr, small, and large. The first time I came here I thought a small size was large. It was a big portion. I love that the fries are thin cut and cover in their delicious chili and topped with shredded cheese. I believe they use two different types of cheese. It is really good.
