Have been to Topsail a few times; great place to go after work on a sunny San Diego day for some drinks and food with a gorgeous bay view. It's on the top deck of the Brigantine, so all outside, killer views, and comfortable seating and canopies, Our server, Bodhi was awesome! Recommended we get 3 bottles of Sancerre for our group of 14; we ordered two, but sure enough, eventually ordered the third! We had 14 plates between us, which was perfect. My favorites: the charcuterie plate, oysters on half shell (2 orders), Beissel sprouts ( 2 orders), tempura lobster tacos, pork belly Banh Mi and truffle fries (2 of these, too). Wasn't as much of a fan of the veggie flatbread, grilled octopus, blackened ahi sliders or lobster Mac & cheese (kind of bland; rest were just ok). Beautiful fire lit location on the water. It's a little tough to sort out where Topsail is, because it's above another restaurant and attached to a building with several others but don't give up. It was a nice place with excellent staff and good appetizers. I had the bao buns and a relaxing time there. San Diego has the best restaurant views! And this restaurant did not disappoint when it came to views and ambiance! The aesthetic is what caught my eye if we're being honest lol. It's such a beautiful place with delicious food. The service was great as well. There was a sign that stated 2 hour limit, but the restaurant wasn't busy when we got there so I don't think it was enforced because we stayed much longer than 2 hours which was nice. (Shh, don't tell). I was worried because we didn't make reservations, but we waited about 20 mins which wasn't bad on a Friday night. I ordered the lobster Mac n cheese and the lobster tempura tacos to share! Both were a hit! I would come here just for drinks! They have an open bar you can sit at and mingle. Enter Brigantine, follow the spiral staircase to the left to go up. The hostess station can be a little pretentious and make you wait for a place to sit. Bypass them and opt for the open seating at the bar all with a good view of the water. There is a good selection of wine, beer on tap and lite eats. Always a good time. read more

I am not a big negative reviewer but every once in a while something needs to be shared. My daughter 21st bday celebration is tonight. My ex and I talked about it and decided a beautiful spot to experience would be at top sail with the entire family. I unfortunately got sick and cannot attend... it is tonight 10/4/2025. We have a reservation and so I called to try and purchase a bottle of champagne to say congratulations!! Happy Birthday and spoke with a hostess no name given. Not an issue just a point. I asked if it would be possible to buy a bottle for her and the table and was told I don't know. Perfect grab the manager and we can chat and get it taken care of. Well she just held the phone out and asked somebody which I heard because she didn't even put it on hold. They, whomever they are discussing an important night out and one a Divorced dad did not want to miss but had to due to illness. And they decided no card here no buying anything. No manager came to the phone, no hold, no even trying or giving other options I will say a truly disappointing experience. I hope their dining experience is better than my experience. read more

We went for brunch to celebrate my cousin's birthday and she loved it! The view was great but it was a little windy so bring a sweater. The charcuterie board was well stocked with a variety of flavors, so we had a lot of fun combining flavors. I got the spa day as a drink and it wasn't anything to write home about honestly. My family recently visited topsail and was deeply disappointed by the service we received. While I understand that every establishment can have off days, the behavior we encountered seemed to be influenced by factors beyond standard service issues. Throughout my visit, I observed that the staff's attentiveness and demeanor were noticeably different towards my family compared to other patrons. This disparity in treatment was concerning and made our dining experience uncomfortable. This place has GREAT views. However, that's the only true positive I can give it. Service was incredibly meh. The bartender had to be asked if we could order food. She was not very friendly and no one else working at the bar seemed to be very helpful either. Got a half dozen oysters which were bland. This was disappointing for a waterside restaurant. DO NOT get the shrimp cocktail. I took a bite and spit it out. It was slimy and absolutely disgusting. The only good thing I ordered was the pork belly buns. But it wasn't an item that was unique so I don't need to specifically come back for it. As for drinks, we all had wine and beer so I don't have anything to say about that. read more

We recently hosted a private party/wedding reception for 40 people. They have a few dedicated spaces for hosting special events depending on crowd size. It's directly above the Brigantine in an open air, spacious, relaxed atmosphere with fiepit tables & several heaters throughout. The view, the food, and the service were exceptional. Our guests loved the space and definitely the food! This is a place that the hubby & I frequent, so we knew it was exactly what we envisioned. Stopped by for a drink at sunset. We were seated at one of the fire pits by the water. The fire pit has 14 chairs and they will sit multiple groups around the same for pit. On the day we went there was only one other couple on the other side of the fire pit. Although we were outside in December, the fire kept us very warm. I also noticed they have heaters all over that could be turned on too. I tried the seaway froze and thought it was really tasty! It's a pretty big drink too! Only complaint is some of the ice bits were too big and got stuck in the straw. Beautiful location to enjoy a drink and watch the sunset. Would definitely return! read more

Just so happen I am still celebrating my birthday 5 days later, my husband decided to take me here to Top Sail. This bar/grill is located above the Brigantine. It was such a pretty setting, bright and sunny, warm and comfortable atmosphere. We knew right away that we wanted the Chilled Seafood Platter to share. The platter had a lobster tail cut in half, 8-10 crab claws, 12-18 large shrimp and about a dozen half oysters we ordered garlic bread and lobster Mac n cheese to complete the course. It came with three sauces and hot melted butter. For drinks I ordered the Old Fashioned and my hubby ordered his usual a beer. I was in San Diego last month for a robotics convention and stopped here for dinner. After two days of rain, the clouds were finally breaking and the view from the second floor was spectacular. The back of the restaurant faces due west and I was hypnotized by the magical sunset. The food and service were also top notch. I started with a half dozen oysters which were meaty and spectacular. I wanted a light dinner and went with the Ahi Tuna sliders. It might not sound like much but the Tuna was perfectly prepared and the wasabi aioli was just right - tasty but not overpowering. There were three so there was plenty. Let's not forget the specialty cocktails. I went with the Twisted Paloma - a tasty margarita with a little spice but not all the sugar you normally get with a mix. What an underrated downtown bar, if you're feeling a little classy! The perfect place for a date, girls night out, or any other occasion where you're looking to impress for a good price! Came in on a random Wednesday to see the sunset and enjoyed a fresh Sex on the Beach with Tito's, $15, while watching the boats quietly come in and out of the harbor. To get to Topsail you'll need to walk into the Brigantine and go up the spiral stairs to your left! Although the bar at the Brigantine is beautiful, I'm personally more partial to Topsail for drinks. Having that ocean view and a lounge area was just wonderful. If you're coming on a Friday or weekend, I'd highly recommend making a reservation though, as I was told that it gets completely full! read more

Before I write this review, I must say that I am in love with Portside Pier! It wasn't there last time I was in San Diego and they did an amazing job with the entire complex. Such a great addition to downtown San Diego! Topsail was a great restaurant! Fantastic views and lovely rooftop vibes. I had some amazing food and drinks! And reasonably priced as well! The bummer was that I didn't get to try the Lobster Benedict, but what we ate was very good. The Lobster Mac and Cheese was prob the best I've ever had, with ginormous chunks of lobster dispersed in a lovely Mac. I feel like an entire lobster was in that dish! You get a lot for the price, and the lobster is delicious! I also had the Octopus, which was very good, if you like octopus. My husband didn't like it, but I thought it was good. The sauce didn't really go well with it in our opinion, but it was cooked very well. The other things we ordered, I didn't get to try all of them, but the presentation and quality of cooking was spot on. One thing I highly recommend is the Rhubarb Collins. So refreshing for a seaside brunch! Our main gripe of the place was that it was very windy, so our menus blew away easily and there weren't many ways to mitigate it. They do have heaters tho, which is great! We ended up moving to the fire pit, which gave our brunch a lovely touch. I highly recommend coming here, just bring a jacket lol. read more

But after the third time the bartender Alex/Alec the girl with dark hair denied us, saying we were belligerent and disruptive (when all we were doing was joking about our sour day). And when asking for a manager she denied us, unbelievable, even trying to write a note to the bar manager. I have never been treated this way.
