It was our first time trying Persian food and everything we got was good. The presentation and ambiance of the restaurant is amazing, perfect for date night. The plate portions are shareable if you order appetizers, we ended up with leftovers enough for a meal. Out of everything we tried, I liked the Boneless Chicken Thigh plate the most. It was juicy, tender, and flavorful. I wish the plates came with a side salad and some sort of sauce. It felt like those things were missing, but next time we're order those to try. They have a super small parking lot, so we ended up doing street parking. The workers are very nice and friendly. They have lunch specials, definitely want to come back for that. Went in without a resie and they got us seated within 5 minutes! The koobideh was delicious (a little too buttery for my liking) but tasty meat. Food came out really fast. They should offer something else over the complimentary bread bc as much as its nice to offer complimentary either do it right or dont do it at all (it was served cold and butter that airplanes give like at least give a decent dip)., also pricing didnt make sense for some items like why am i paying that much for yogurt? Booked for 15 to celebrate after my son's First Communion up the street and I can't rave enough about the super amazing staff an excellent food. The team was super accommodating for our group of kids and adults. The place is gorgeous inside and seating is comfortable. Felt very upscale but at reasonable prices. My family came here for my mom's birthday, and it was our first time at Toranj. We had a large party but they were able to accommodate us all for lunch. We oredered several dishes and our favorites were the juicy chicken, beef koobideh, tahdig with stew, and the saffron ice cream. New Persian restaurant in Manhattan Beach and it's really good. Former Manhattan house location they completely redecorated and reconfigured the inside. The food is well done. The best Tahdig I've had and I've tried many. Crispy and evenly cooked. The beef and chicken Koobideh was well seasoned and juicy. The eggplant, Kashke Bademjan, was beautifully presented and had the perfect balance of flavors. Service was excellent and it was a busy early Saturday dinner. The only issue is parking. The lot is small so expect to park on a side street during peak times. Will definitely come back to try more dishes. read more

After Seaside Palace closed, my family and I had been missing local Persian food since getting up to Westwood isn't always an option. The good: the ambiance is wonderful and the food was delightful. We had the grape leaves, hummus, signature juicy chicken and lamb shank. The lamb was perfectly prepared. The bread was hot and fresh. The chicken platter was large and my mom and I couldn't finish it even though we shared. We wanted to try the tahdig, but they said no more for the evening :( So why the three stars? Service. We had a reservation for 6 PM on NYE. We arrived at 6. The woman running the hostess stand was clearly overwhelmed. I wasn't even able to check in until 6:15. But then she told us "hold on." Finally, after 15 minutes, I asked if there was an estimate and she said a few minutes and we were seated around 6:35. I'm not sure why check-in took so long... even busy restaurants on a packed night can usually take your name quickly and proactively know how long until they will be able to seat you. 35 minutes after reservation time is quite a bit and thankfully we were somewhat flexible with time. Once we were seated it was marginally better. Our server was very friendly and helpful, but our table was often overlooked. Multiple times we had to wave someone down to get attention. I don't know if it was the location where they seated us, just still working out new location logistics or what, but the experience was disappointing. I'm the daughter of the owners of the now-closed Seaside Palace Restaurant. Because of this, I've always had high expectations when it comes to Iranian food. I was finally able to visit Toranj after giving them the necessary time to open and adjust, as it can be a learning curve, especially in a new area. I'm pleased to share that I had a wonderful experience. The staff were very friendly, especially the busboys. They were polite, respectful, and attentive. We opted for family-style dining, as it's always the best bang for your buck and allows you to try a bit of everything. The juicy chicken was my favorite. The inside of this place is clean, elegant, and lit well. The portions are huge, the menu is vast, and the service is fast. We got a meal for two and had leftovers to take home. The chicken and beef were so juicy. The tomatoes and onions had a great char. The basmati rice soaked up all of the flavor from the meats and vegetables, so flavorful. Their garden salad was a hefty portion. It was refreshing: light lemony dressing, crispy iceberg/romaine lettuce, and chopped into bite sizes. They also give a complimentary piece of flatbread when you sit down. This was paired with butter, but it did not need it because it was already flaky and buttery. Toranj is a major letdown after the closure of the reliable Seaside Palace, in Torrance. After one dine-in and five takeout orders, the quality has only gotten worse. The food is overpriced and poorly made. The rice is consistently undercooked, oily, and flavorless--completely unacceptable for a Persian restaurant. The chicken koobideh is bland to the point of being inedible, and the fish kebab has no flavor while being priced like a high-end South Bay spot. If you're new to Persian food, don't judge it by this place--it's not even close to the real thing. read more

BLUF: Food was good, dessert was amazing gotta try the Persian Ice cream and the blossom! But if you're going to charge these kind of prices for food the service needs to match! The service here is very lack luster which is why I have to give them 3 stars. We were seated and not offered any water. Waiter seemed distracted the majority of the night and I had to request most of the items, like water, a dessert menu, boxes. They started cleaning the restaurant with guests still there like they were all in a rush to get home. The smell of fabuloso ruined my appetite! The decor was beautiful and there was a live guitarist on Friday night. At 9 he packed up pretty quick and left and there was no soft background music or anything to keep the atmosphere pleasant. The restaurant also turned on all the lights which is what most places do to tell people it's time to go. Waited 20 minutes to pick up one Baklava, that was preordered online. When I arrived, the young hostess, probably a new hire, walked to the kitchen, came back to me and said, "It's just being bagged". Really? Baklava? How long does it take to bag one Baklava? Why couldn't she wait one minute and bring it back? After waiting an additional 10 minutes, I reminded her that it was just one Baklava. The young hostess returned to the kitchen and then told me that the kitchen staff usually doesn't look at the ticket/order, they just process as received. Waited an additional 10 minutes, before receiving a very small Baklava, that cost $14.00 and was just ok. So the hostess lied! It was not being bagged- she probably says that to everyone that picks up to go orders. No apologies received for the delay. My husband and I dined at Toranj this past Saturday. 5 stars for the food, 1 for the service. We had a 6pm reservation and were seated right away. And then we sat. And sat. And sat. No one came over to give us water or take orders. I was finally able to flag down a server and he took our drink and appetizer order. I also asked for water, but had to flag down the bussers to ask again, twice. It was the same experience all night. Flagging down help, with difficulty, to order main courses and ask for a second round of drinks, and takeout boxes, and finally for our check. I felt like the server was purposely not making eye contact. The manager (per his badge) dropped off our second drinks and he said nothing at all to us. I did see some other tables getting friendly and attentive service. When I made the reservation, the form asked if it was a special occasion, and I entered "anniversary". I have no idea if they ever acknowledge special occasions, but they did not acknowledge ours. No biggie, it was just the cherry on top of the evening. The food was all delicious. I do not eat meat, but my husband does, and we both enjoyed every item we tasted. Lots of vegetarian options. Good portion sizes. The remodel of the old restaurant is lovely and stylish. This was a really disappointing experience. There are many items on the menu we'd like to try, but I'm not sure I'll go back. I very rarely write negative reviews, as I really like to support local businesses and I figure every business can have an off night. But after reading other similar reviews and experiencing it myself, I decided to share our experience. Please address the service issues and we'd happily come back. read more

OMG! The food was delicious. I had the Albaloo Polo which was a delicious braised chicken with rice with cherries. It was a huge plate and delicious. We came to celebrate a special birthday for a dear friend who is gluten sensitive. The menu is so friendly to GF needs. We were never rushed, always given good communication on the menu and the suggestions were what we went with. I apologize for not knowing the name for the dishes, but I will learn over all my future visits. We started with the warm eggplant dish, and my husband who is a baba ghanoush fan said this dish was so much better, and now his favorite. The stuffed grape leaves (5) were delicate and seasoned to reflect that. Delicious! Came here upon getting some good reviews on this place. Even though we came at an off hour for lunch, it was still fairly busy. The decor is nice and clean. Our initial server could definitely have used a lesson on their wine list. We ordered the falafel, juicy chicken, and beef koobideh lunch specials. The falafel was so good and not dry at all. The best surprise was how amazing the juicy chicken was (no wonder it's their house special). You could cut the chicken breast with your fork. The only downside to our experience was that when we walked in, there were several dying flower arrangements near the hostess stand and the smell was pretty strong. Thankfully we weren't seated next to them but you would think they would know they didn't look good anymore and smelled bad. The service was phenomenal. The ambience they spent some money on this place fresh lavash bread..what? incredible butter incredible the eggplant dish was too rich. I truly think this is one of the best tasting Persian restaurants I've been to and I'm so glad they were able to bring a second location down to the beach cities all the way from Westwood. I normally prefer beef over chicken, but both their beef and chicken kabobs are fabulous. My favorite is the beef soltani! I love that they have fresh bread when you sit down. Parking is very tricky but if you can look past that it's a great place. One thing I do have to note, if you're ever ordering for pick up, the wait staff in the front can be a little incompetent! Daisy, the hostess greeted us warmly and got us seated quickly. Mehdi was a great server. Yolanda, the bartender made us perfect Old Fashion's to start, along with very refreshing mint and lavender drinks. Love the rose garnishes. Once the amazingly presented appetizers came out, my taste buds were through the roof. Warm sangak bread w butter, perfectly tasting Kashge Bademjun, refreshing Toranj Salad, Mast o Musir and of course famous Persian Tadeek w Ghayme/Karafts stews on-top that would make my mom a bit jealous. The main course did not disappoint - Juicy Chicken, Kabob Barg and Kubideh and Lamb Chops with great garnishes - fresh mint, pickled onions, grilled onions/tomato.
