The restaurant is beautiful, the food was excellent, and the servers were great!!! However, there is definitely room for improvements though. The older gentleman at the front was rude. No greeting. Not very welcoming. Just "Do you have a reservation?" It was 4:30pm***. Place was empty. He made zero eye contact, and had a very disinterested tone. When he dropped off the menus, it was rushed in a rude fashion. He has to be a manager OR one of the owners. The table that sat right after us introduced themselves as one of the local newspaper's food reviewers. He immediately changed his demeanor, tone, cadence, and was tentative to them their whole meal, which spoke a lot about this man. I understand this restaurant is newer, so kinks will be corrected. However, as a MB/Hermosa local, it would be nice to feel welcomed and wanted. The South Bay has so many food options, often at times, I become a regular to a place due to the friendly ownership, and service. Not just the food! Little things separate good from great and that is where Toranj missed the mark for me. Here are some suggestions for improvement: - tip suggestion amount should not be calculated inclusive of tax - if someone swaps an appetizer (and never actually gets it), it should be removed from bill - server should put leftovers in boxes (not customer) if I am paying $40 for an entree - to go bags that are the same size as a Ralph's grocery brown bag are not a great look - floor of bathroom covered in soap is not ideal and dangerous - getting apps before drinks - dropping a carafe of water and not pouring water for guests - not getting menu suggestions or ideas Minor stuff, yes, but easily fixable as the food is actually tasty. Again, I can get over all of this if dining at El Sombrero #2 but this place purports to be in another tier. read more

Just discovered one of the best Persian restaurants I've ever been to and it's right here in Manhattan Beach. Total hidden gem. The food is unreal. Perfectly seasoned kebabs, incredibly tender meats, and that classic saffron rice done exactly right, fluffy, aromatic, and slightly crispy at the bottom. You can tell everything is made with care and real authenticity. The atmosphere is low key and welcoming, not flashy, which honestly makes it even better. It feels like one of those places you want to keep to yourself but it's too good not to share. If you're anywhere near Manhattan Beach and love Persian food, you have to try this spot. I wanted to like it so bad since seaside Palace closed down, but the food was mediocre. I ordered geymah and the lentils we're hard I ordered yogurt shallot, and I got the cucumber yogurt. My eggplant dip was not warm at all. It was cold because the girl was walking it around asking other tables except mine. The men were very friendly, but the women were not. read more

I have been to Toranj MB twice and both times the food has been amazing! The ambiance is lovely and we were properly greeted. The only problem is, I have gotten the same female server both times and she's unfortunately not very pleasant. :-( She's not attentive, we waited long periods of time for water, bread, drink refills, and to order. When she finally did arrive, she was actually pretty rude honestly. I am not Persian, but I am familiar with the cuisine and was very excited to have a new Persian restaurant in the South Bay. The first time in, I asked for recommendations (since I hadn't been to the restaurant) and it seems that since I didn't take her advice, she was annoyed. She allowed us to order way too much food for 3 people, I would have appreciated knowing the portion-sizes beforehand rather than being upsold. We had to flag her down for drinks (and remind her twice for them), to order apps, entrees, to have our table cleared as other plates were arriving, etc... The other tables seemed to be getting plenty of attention both times I was there as we were constantly being ignored. The second time in, the other staff had to step in to bring us water and get our drinks - including the bartender and a female manager(?) at one point. Our server didn't even appear that busy nor did she apologize for forgetting about us, she was just preoccupied paying more attention to two other tables in particular, maybe her friends? I would love to come back because I do crave the amazing food, but I really don't want to deal with that particular server because she puts a damper on the experience. First time was for a birthday, second was for a wedding anniversary and we left a bit upset. :-( read more

From the creamy spinach borani and perfectly layered Persian eggplant to the freshly baked bread served hot, everything was outstanding. The Naderi Soltani with tender filet mignon, juicy koobideh, and fluffy saffron rice was exceptional, as was the rich, comforting fesenjoon and golden, crispy tahchin. Dessert truly stole the show--caramelized cream puffs and pistachio cake, perfectly paired with Persian tea and a floating rosebud. Memorable, beautiful, and delicious. Toranj is a gem. Beautiful restaurant and atmosphere. I came on a Friday afternoon it was not busy at all and I was seating immediately without a reservation. Food came out within 5-10 minutes. I ordered the two vegan plates. The red sauce on the falafel plate was delicious but not listed in the menu, and when I inquired they said it was a mustard and Mayo mixture. Wow, my first time at this 2-restaurant chain (original is in Westwood). Super impressed. The atmosphere is elegant, beautiful, light-filled and calm. The service was professional. And the food delicious! I went for lunch with a friend. We shared a hummus with the gratis flatbread. I ordered the sea bass lunch special (fantastic) with dill rice and salad. Fantastic and a big meal for lunch. My friend had the house specialty called juicy chicken which she shared with me: meltingly tender chicken with a delicious light tomato sauce. I bypassed the rice and opted for just salad (watching carb intake). It was delicious. The chicken was very flavorful and the portion was huge. The food does not taste fresh. I ordered juicy chicken and filet mignon. Also ordered the rice and house salad, along with the shallot yogurt and hummus. The proteins were moist but the flavor was off, almost reminiscent of processed/prepackaged food, or even leftovers. The rice and the salad did not taste fresh either. The hummus and yogurt dip was disappointing as well. Spent almost $100 and it all went straight to the trash. Will not be returning. Have the 2 stars due to the nice hosts who assisted me with my order. read more
