One of my heaters went out on Thanksgiving. Luis swung by the next day, and diagnosed the problem as a bad inducer (CO elimination unit). He noted that it might be covered under the mfg 10 yr warranty (I wouldn't have known), and suggested that I call the mfg on Monday. In the meantime, he checked his supplier and quoted me out a repair, lest the mfg decline to cover. He was leaving when we remembered that he hadn't charged us, and although he initially declined money for the service call (it was admittedly a quick call - I had mounted the ladder, set up lights, opened the furnace, and given a thorough rundown to assist the diagnosis), he eventually accepted his quoted $60 diag fee and told us that he'd credit it back against the eventual repair. I pulled the bad inducer and the following Monday, I confirmed that we had warranty coverage. Luis swung by the distributor in San Jose to pick it up (they only service contractors; wouldn't let me get it), but there was some miscommunication, so with Luis' sponsorship, I picked up the part (on my 3rd visit): a) inventory system erred, it was in the Fresno center b) didn't arrive in the next day shipment, although I'd called ahead to verify it was in c) part was in, and they gave it to me, but erred and billed Luis for it. I cleared that up. Went up in the attic crawlspace today and installed the inducer. Heater's fine - hooray. Near's I can tell, Luis saved me about $500, between what the inducer would've cost and by encouraging me to swap it out myself, instead of insisting upon doing it himself (was simple, but required care and disassembly of the drain line, gas line, and numerous electrical connections to get to the inducer). I appreciated Luis' frequent communication (mostly via text), accountability (always managed expectations and delivered on them), and willingness (and encouragement) to let me do the work instead of requiring me to have him do it. Our other heater requires a check-out and going-over, so I'll unhesitatingly call Luis to perform that work. read more

I had an emergency situation and needed a new AC/Furnace system quickly - Torres HVAC responded quickly and provided service the next day. They showed up on time, were professional and installed a new AC/furnace system in my house. Given the age of my house and limited locations options of the condenser placement, Torres HVAC came up with a solution that fit my budget and provided a condenser that fit in a narrow space outside and in the basement. Torres HVAC is very knowledgeable about regulations and codes in Palo Alto and provided me with ideas on different types of covers to hide the condenser. Luis took the time to explain to us how to program our system so we could turn on/off the system remotely from our phones. From the very beginning, he was very clear about the steps involved when installing our system. No surprises popped up - everything went according to plan and budget. The employees at HVAC Torres are very friendly and have excellent communication skills. They are polite and well-mannered. I also appreciated the fact that the response time to calls and texts were answered quickly and professionally. They even replaced the broken netting to the crawl space without any extra cost. Talk about great customer service! At the end of installation, HVAC Torres showed us what needed to be done annually in order to keep our system in good shape. First of all, I've never left a review for anything. Ever. I felt I had to for this one because it was unique. I tried changing my thermostat to a new smart one (probably not a good idea on one of the hottest days of the year). The wires from the furnace to thermostat didn't match up- rc or rh, w, g, y etc. I called Torres HVAC because of the great yelp reviews. Luis answers, obviously very busy on a hot day, but proceeds to spend the next hour on the phone with me walking me through all of the steps to get it corrected. Who does that these days?
