Lunch here was terrific. The Hams, stracciatella, affogato were all excellent. Service was very good too. The prosciutto was paper thin sliced with the fat trimmed off and with a pineapple jam and delicate small zeppolas. Very nice and creative. It all worked. Also the stracciatella soup was very nice. The scrambled egg was delicate and the soup flavorful. Also good was the affogato. It is a large portion, suitable for two and it is delicious. One note, if you make a reservation, there are three types of reservations: the walk in bar, the bar area, and the more formal dining room. If you want the dining room you must request it. This of course isn't easy since our reservations went through the notify on Resy. On it there is no option for the type of setting you would like. read more

I had the most fantastic service here!!! Christian was our server, he was so knowledgeable, helpful and kind.. he really guided us through the menu and made our experience top notch. We had the espresso martini to start (AMAZING!!) we then switched over to wine. We ordered the smoked meat appetizer with zeppole, the clams oregato, the tuna with caponata, the cavatelli, and finally the Dover sole. Everything was fantastic. After almost a year of being opened, this restaurant is mostly hyped with a great bar. The food is over salted, both the fennel salad that was also so thick you needed a steak knife to cut. a huge disappointment in the very expensive Dover sole that was mere 1/2 lb at best. Drenched in sauce and unbearable to eat. After the waiter saw I was trying to separate the sauce from fish, she offered to do it for me. 25 mins later I received a newly cooked dish that looked like chicken schnitzel with sauce on the side. read more

I mean i was lookin at the georgeous centerpiece and a waiter came over and explained alot about it, how cool is that. An 4-5 dept open kitchen to see all the action. Every worker that pass by either nods or smile with eaze. I say the hiring dept did quite a amazing job. Now the vibe, high ceiling, perfectly lit. The crowd, the open kitchen~is perfection, i can easily spend hours here at the standing bar easy. Once sit my waiter asks for water, which is $10 per person, free refills so be careful or ask for tap. Explained the fan favorites intensely with alot of passion & pride, love it. Cocktails simple, amazing~if u know mfg is masters of cocktails. Now the food~order everything !!! Once i finish the entire menu i will post every single dish. To be quite honest ive been to every single mfg establishment and its all great. But torrisi has to be the one of the greatest restaurant in nyc with its orgasmic dishes, wonderful/passionate staffs, spacious ceiling/decor, vast open kitchen action. The ambiance was nice, but the experience I had was off putting. For some reason, our server decided to tell us each of the menu items whilst also telling us the price. Meanwhile, when he said the same thing to other tables by us, the price was never mentioned. Additionally, bread was never brought to us until asked for, and when asked, it was brought ice cold. The food is lackluster, definitely not worth the hype. I pride myself on eating good food and having a good experience overall and I for one did not experience that here. I'm loathe to give this place a good review, because it will just make it harder to get a reservation than it already is ;-) Suffice to say that this is my new favorite restaurant in NYC. I've now eaten there 2 nights in a row! Everything I had was best in class, but the prosciutto is a must have: Exquisite ham cut so thinly that you can see through it, paired with hot, delicate mini-zeppole's that combine for an incredible culinary treat. Their oyster mushroom dish is also extraordinary, cooked in a delectable sauce with a hint of char. Yum The first night I had their chicken, which was moist, perfectly cooked, and with a thin skin that was just the right amount of crispy. The second night I had their duck, which had an amazing sauce and was beautiful, pink, and prepared just right. The wines are also exceptional. Both nights I had a proprietary sauvignon blanc that I tried to buy for my collection, but can't be purchased! If you can somehow get a reservation, you will be pleased. It opened too late to get a Michelin star, but I'm guessing one will be forthcoming, as it is better than many I've been to in NYC. read more

General: 2 couples for dinner. We came in to a historic Puck building on time. We were promptly, within about 2 minutes, seated at the table. Asked for a corner booth to escape noise, and were promptly accommodated. Décor: Thank you guys for not falling into a boring white-on-white routine. Design is pretty good, although the lighting is too subdued. Very low lighting levels create a mysterious atmosphere and hide some features designers do not want to emphasize. We had to employ our cell phone lights to read the menu. Sound: Music was too loud and patrons generated a tremendous amount of additional noise trying to be heard. Fully-occupied tables and booths are positioned too close to each other to maximize space utilization. Hence, more noise per square foot. A conversation is impossible unless you sit next to each other. One waiter was going down on one knee to be closer to diners in order to be heard. Bathrooms: One bathroom is on the main level and two bathrooms are in the basement. The generously-sized bathrooms are clean and well appointed. Food: Complimentary bread: Was cold and appeared a bit wet to the touch-usually it is caused by either refrigeration, to preserve its freshness, and not reheating it well before serving, or by under baking it, or both. Oregano butter, on the other hand, was tasty and very soft-great for spreading. Dressed oysters: The amount of horseradish was so overwhelming that we ended up removing it from the oysters, and what we couldn't remove was still too much. Sweet and sour sardines: The night's special had an excellent taste thanks to an extent to the accompanying sauce. However, the dish consisted of 2 (two) medium-sized sardines that cost $38. If you factor in tax and tip, the two sardines ended up at $50. Way too rich. Bonito crudo: Bonito, sometimes called skipjack tuna, is highly perishable. Bonito tasted fine. Octopus Nha Trang: Slightly seared octopus was too tough. Octopus is a tricky dish to prepare, both undercooking or overcooking causes it to be tough. Raviolini with Prawns and Saffron: The best dish of the night, even though it was over salted a bit. Dover Sole Francese: Dover sole appeared to be too inexpensive at $59 when compared to Dover sole offerings at a similar class restaurants, where one has to shell about 30% more. That is until we tried it, it was 30% less tasty than at other similar establishments. Of course, it sounds funny to measure taste differences in percentages, but the words "less tasty" would not relay the message. Let's say the dish was not memorable. Black Sea Bass Dogana: The Sea Bass was to our liking. The Italian La Dogana reference was well-documented in reviews by others. Capellini Cantonese with 1/2 lobster: Lobster was tough. At $85+Tax+Tip one would expect a better-tasting product. Affogato: Pleasant dessert of expresso granita, hot fudge and vanilla ice cream. We found a piece of plastic in the dish-see Service below for what happened next. Drinks and vine: Not enough was consumed to comment on. Service: Well-orchestrated, courteous and very helpful. Staff is dressed properly, even busboys. We reported to our waiter about our plastic discovery and handed him the piece. In the next few minute we received a visit from a maître d'/floor captain who asked us whether we desire anything else. We politely declined. Upon the arrival of our bill, we were pleased to see that we were adequately compensated for a number of items we consumed. We would like to compliment the senior staff for a prompt and proper handling of the problem. Classy save! Conclusion: Most of the time hospitality lags behind food. In this case, the issue is reversed-hospitality is excellent. Food, on the other hand, needs to catch up. NYT reviewer awarded 3 stars out of 4 about a year ago. An absolute hands down 5 star place. From the beautiful interior, to the open concept kitchen (reminiscent of Misi), to the quality of the cocktails and food, and finally to the service! Everything was spectacular! Marcus, our server, was the best server I have ever had the pleasure of encountering. My boyfriend and I brought my cousin who was visiting from London here on the later side and we were all pretty tired from a day of NYC adventures. Marcus immediately had us all THRILLED to be at the restaurant. I was already excited about coming to a new Major Food Group restaurant, but he just gave off the best vibes and really took the time to talk to us and form a relationship of sorts. I'm writing this review over a month after our actual meal there and I still remember his name, that's how great he was! We absolutely loved everything we ate, the complimentary butter was surprisingly super delicious. We loved the palate cleansers and cookies offered to us as well. We ordered oysters, the escarole salad, tortellini, and jerk ragu for food. Got the frozen yogurt as our dessert. The frozen yogurt was fairly large and could definitely be shared by more than two people. A must visit place with a wonderful history preserved in an amazing new establishment! read more

It's definitely one of those places you just need to try once. I would say the food was mediocre not as great as expected. The scene and the vibe are what you pay for in my opinion. I did however enjoy the very large affogato as well as my dirty martini which was on point. Wow! What a great experience we had for lunch! The cucumber salad and dressed endives were both refreshing and a great start to our meal. We then moved on to pastas. Cavatelli with Jamaican beef ragu was very flavorful and pretty spicy. They also graciously gifted us a plate of the tortellini pomodoro which was filled with a generous amount of silky ricotta cheese but was a tiny bit underseasoned. A little more salt and basil would have added more oomph to this dish. The star of the show was the raviolini with prawns. OMG, I wanted this dish all to myself! The prawns were perfectly cooked, and the sauce was perfection. All the pasta dishes were perfectly cooked, but the prawn raviolini are just on their own level! We ended the savory portion of our meal with the black sea bass dolgana which was perfectly cooked in a light but very flavorful broth. Lastly, we had their famous affogato which is really delicious with gooey chocolate sauce and coffee granita. After all that, they also brought out mini Italian ice in two flavors (lemon and pineapple) and three different kinds of cookies. Even the cookies are awesome! I came here with my friend, we joined the line outside a little before 5pm. When we got to the door we were granted the choice of ordering a cocktail and small appetizers. We were advised that a table wouldn't be possible but a seat at the bar would be eventually. We had espresso martinis that were divine, and the Italian and American hams with zeppole which was my favorite! & the clam bake. We were told it would be a pretty long wait but we're happy we didn't leave and then come back because two seats did open. Around 645/7pm. So we were just enjoying ourselves until then. The food we ordered next was legendary! My favorite being the tortellini, and chicken alla griglia!!! The bartender was so cool, and nice! I would love to come back. I've told so many people to go, and they have came back with the same opinion. This is the best food they've had in NYC. The hype is most definitely real at Torrisi! read more

I was tempted to give this restaurant a low rating since it's ran by the notorious Major Food Group - where the basic PR/marketing girls dine and post Instagrams. Fortunately, this new joint did not disappoint. I walked in around 5pm to acquire a 11:15pm reservation. If this is how you decide to get a table, just know there was already a line wrapped around the block. When I came back, we were sat almost immediately. The interior has a pretty Nolita industrial look. We were sat in the back where the main dining room is at a booth with 2 chairs. The staff were super friendly and accommodating. The best dishes were definitely the prosciutto, cavaletti, and tortellini. Not sure why the picked turnips are an appetizer - they should formulate that into some kind of salad, it was too bland in contrast to the other flavorful items on the menu. Ask for a bread basket because the bread felt like eating a warm sesame bagel and the butter was whipped perfectly. My one complaint is that they could not get an extra dry martini correct - there was too much vermouth and the they stiff you on the glasses with a smaller pour. Hoping this is not the case for my next dining experience! read more

I'll give it 4 stars but Torrisi is not a solid 4 for me. The pastas we had, penne and prawn raviolini, were good but far from amazing. Also the $25 spritz, which was really tasty, had a huge amount of ice. If I'm paying that much for a drink I'd like for it to be mostly liquid, not solid. Luckily the Boars head on rye was very good, recommend it. The potatoes were great and served in a large portion, my favorite dish of the meal. And the cheesecake was delicious but wouldn't say it was the best I've had in NY. The ambience of this place is really cool. Had high hopes for Torrisi as it recently got a Michelin star but unfortunately the pastas which should have been the main draw were underwhelming. read more

My husband and I went to Torrisi for the first time on Valentine's Day. I don't think that you can truly judge any restaurant on Valentine's Day because it's just hectic and a high turnover environment. However, I will recount our experience. The menu on this day was a prix fixe menu which highlighted some of their most popular dishes. Overall the ambiance is beautiful - a soft glow, not too dark, not too bright. The music was just loud enough to create a romantic dinner scene without being boring. The booths make for a great place for a group to dine. The waiter we had was amazing. He was attentive, lively, and able to competently answer any questions we had. My only complaint about the service was that our appetizers all came out at one time, causing the table to be too crowded. It felt a bit like they were trying to rush our dinner and turn tables, which I did not love. All of our dishes were incredible, with the exception of the truffle tagliatelle... which was overcooked, and the flavor was just bad - and I love truffle dishes. The most notable dishes for me were the tortellini pomodoro and the almond cheesecake, those two are a must! Overall I would highly recommend Torrisi, if you're able to snag a reservation! read more

The food overall was not worth the hype. I expected this restaurant to be one of the top Italian restaurant I've ever went to. Starting with the endive salad which was pretty good but not worth $20. Next course was the pasta, the Jamaican wagyu pasta tasted so bad that it ruined my dining experience. And the other pasta was just average tomato sauce pasta. Then we ordered main dish which tasted like not crispy version of fish and chips. Scallop potatoes were so weird like it had olives in it. my boyfriend loved the espresso martini here that he ordered three! anyway for apps we got the octopus nha trang. it definitely had that south east asian flavor as it includes mint. I suppose I was a bit thrown off by this since it's not italian flavors, but then again carbone does caesar salad which is mexican. Anyway the octopus was good but I would have preferred something more traditional so that it ties in with the entrées and the dessert. For entrées we got the duck and the tortellini. The tortellini is very creamy but I thought the tomato sauce was a bit sour? That threw me off a bit. Some people say their tortellini is one of the best pastas in the city but I think for this, I prefer carbone's rigatoni. Now as for the duck, this was our favorite! The duck was perfectly tender. Major Food Group knocked it out of the park again with this new restaurant on Mulberry. The staff here were all extremely professional (shoutout to the amazing bartender Charlie!). Ordered the Cavatelli with Jamaican beef ragu which is an off the menu item and was well worth it. Also love that the bar area takes walk ins, a little change up from the elusive Carbone reservation which makes this restaurant a little more accessible, especially last minute! Took my girlfriend here for a fancy Christmas meal. We started with the Octopus Nha Trang. The octopus was crispy on the outside, but tender on the inside and served with onions and a mint garnish. We didn't know beforehand, but it is also served with a spicy chili sauce so keep that in mind if you are sensitive to spice. We then shared the Tortellini Pomodoro, Linguini in a Pink Manhattan Clam Sauce, and Raviolini with Prawns and Saffron. The Tortellini Pomodoro was the star of the evening! It definitely lives up to the hype and was better than most pasta dishes I've had in Italy! The Raviolini was also very good, but the dish felt very prawn-forward with the filing being 90% prawns. Not a bad thing, but not what I was expecting from a raviolini. The Linguini was slightly disappointing. It wasn't bad, but it was too salty and overshadowed by the other delicious dishes. Finally we finished with the Affogato which is not traditional. It is made with vanilla ice cream, fudge, and shaved espresso ice instead of liquid espresso. It was very delicious and a nice take on the dish. We were also given complimentary Italian ices and Italian cookies which were delicious. The service was amazing, and I think that's why many people come to place like this. The staff was very attentive and made sure to explain the specials and everything on the menu. The building itself is historic and the restaurant pays homage to it by providing a pleasant, dimly lit dining area for a romantic meal. Now for the only con...we got a reservation for the bar room and the tables are very close together. We felt slightly uncomfortable being that they had to move the whole table if someone from the booth wanted to leave or go to the restroom. I'm not sure if it's different in the dining room, but it felt like they were trying to pack as many people as they can into the restaurant which took away from the intimate experience that we went there for. I think I would go back, but only for the Tortellini, Affogato, and maybe to try some of their other appetizers and main dishes. read more

Steer clear of the orangey sweet garibaldi royale - too much juice. Reds by the glass - excellent barolo. Order just one clam boule, cucumbers, tuna and get special apps of the day - delicious japanese mackerel and sardines. for pasta - tortellini - super light pasta but too much cheese filling imo, star of the show is raviolini with prawns - same light pasta, delicious silky smooth seafood filling, bomb sauce, i can take home another serving please; linguini with pink sauce - delicious but a bit too saucy/runny? chicken a la griglia - very tasty, skin crisped up with charcoal, amazing sauce full all flavor - ate it all up!!! heard duck and porchetta are excellent - next visit hopefully - get there early! ordered 4 of 5 desserts - must try affogato - whole new level and sicilian date cake - light as feather, so unexpected. yogurt good as well and the cheesecake but I was too full and had to finish moscato d'asti by la spinetta - light and sweet. read more
