My bf had the chicken curry -- which was okay, but reminded me very much so of the Golden Curry instant packages you can get at any grocery store. I haven't been to this Toshi's in a couple of years. I ordered the chicken breast and sirloin beef- Combo #1 for $9.95. The coleslaw was really good. The chicken breast was dry and disappointing. But, what was really bad was the beef. It tasted old, hard and dry, as tho it was made a few days ago and kept warm for days. The flavor was a little bit sickening here. The owner is always at the counter and she treats you like an old friend when you come thru the door. I decided to stop into Toshi's Teriyaki on recommendation from a friend. I don't remember what the dish I ordered was called but it was chicken, vegetables, and noodles. The dish came out with lots of noodles and just a little bit of chicken. The noodles were tasty enough but it was saturated with over cooked limp cabbage. To even eat the dish I had to take the cabbage out. After removing the cabbage I had a mound of about 6" high. Cabbage should be just cooked until crisp but this cabbage was so overcooked it was mushy. I may try this place again when shopping at Westwood but I will make sure I order something with no cabbage. read more

By far one of the worst Terriyaki dishes I've had. The chicken breast was incredibly dry. There was no sauce poured over the rice; all that was provided was a tiny container of sauce that wasn't enough to even cover the chicken let alone the rice. I've had plenty of mediocre Terriyaki, which is at least somewhat satisfying, but I couldn't even eat this. Who wants dry white rice and flavorless, dried-up chicken for $9.00? Now, I've eaten my fair share of Teri while growing up in LA, so when visiting Seattle recently, we had to see what all the hype was about. Drove to Toshi's from downtown and called in the order from 15 mins away, figuring that would be plenty of time for the food to be ready. Nope - Toshi's said it would be a 40 min wait! So we got there with time to spare (went to a store and bank to kill time), and still had to wait with no other customers waiting. Finally got the food but it really wasn't worth the wait. I LOVE TOSHI'S TERIYAKI!! Their salad that is served with the order is a pickled cabbage kind, it's SOOO awesome because it's not the regular salad you expect. I always order an extra side order of the salad. Their teriyaki is fresh, delicious, fast and cheap. The portions are huge, I always have to save half for another meal. I always get the spicy chicken teriyaki. You can either sit down and eat there, they have a variety of sodas and drinks you can order there as well. If you don't want to stay, you can just drop by and do a to go order which takes about 5 minutes to prepare depending on how busy they are. The pot stickers are also awesome, they are soft and crunchy at the same time and come in an order of 6 pieces (i think) as a side order. This is a pretty typical teriyaki place, nothing special. The ambiance inside is lacking, as they have stacks and stacks of cases of beverages around the walls of the dining room. They have about 4 coolers of beverages available to buy for some reason. The take-out process is quick and efficient and service is good. My boyfriend and I got take-out for dinner one night. He ordered chicken teriyaki (and he said the chicken was great), pork potstickers (and he said they were kind of gross and smelled like they were cooked in old oil), and I got tofu teriyaki. The tofu was a little on the dry side but it was overall a good-tasting meal. The rice was really good. Their teriyaki sauce is thin and kind of bland. Although the shrimp yakisoba is the only dish I order, I've been able to sample the shortrib plate and the katsu chicken. Both very good! I'm not a fan of a lot of teriyaki I've tried around here since its been that sort of grocery store style teriyaki (don't get me wrong, that stuff is bomb, but not 'teriyaki'). The cabbage "salad" doesn't have a dressing on it and is really boring ie inedible and they put rice in the dish with the yaki soba just to fill up the container seems like. The lunch special currently is $4.95, chicken teriyaki and 3 pc of pot stickers. It's decent, but nothing to write home about. To get the order ready takes 5-10 minutes which I find to be rather silly, but if the food was better I'd be fine with it. Portion sizes are better than decent. The ambience in the place is terrible, crappy tables and chairs, I'd prefer takeout from now on I'm sure. The good think about the atmosphere is the posters for local current events posted around the restaurant. Their sirloin is hands-down THE BEST beef teriyaki I've ever had. (And trust me, I've been around). Lean, tender, not at all gristly (like some teriyaki cuts can be), with a wonderful texture and grilled flavor. Overall, the food is good, haven't tried a dish yet that my family hasn't enjoyed. For the food I would rate them a 4/5. However, it's the customer service that drops our rating down to a 3. We've been several times now and get a sense that the regulars get a bit of special treatment. My husband noted 3 groups that ordered after us the other day all received their meals before us. I use to regularly go to this Toshi's, as it is at a great WS community location. My family, and friends will no longer! Their prices have increased horrendously over the years (before covid). We have been (secretly) charged for bags, as well as credit/debit card fee's. Mind you, these fees are NOT listed, nor indicated anywhere! They stopped allowing you to use the sauce (after covid) and are ridiculously stingy with any! Even if you purchase it. I never wrote a review, because I am a reasonable person. Covid, small business. We just can't anymore! Last straw was 2 orders, and an additional large salad. They forgot my salad (6.99) and when I called to advise, they told me they were closing, and to return tomorrow! We just had a DELICIOUS, and reasonably priced dinner at Nikko's on 45th. They also provide extra protein, additional veggies, and sauces at no extra charge! GO SUPPORT NIKKO's! They are great, friendly, and family orientated. Unlike Toshis where the female owner yells at the minority cooks, in her language which they do not understand. Do better Toshis! I am glad I was able to take my family, friends, and local patients away from such a failing establishment. read more

We called in our order of 1 chicken yakisoba, 1 beef teriyaki and 1 chicken teriyaki, we went to pick up our order and as per usual the restaurant was busy and no chairs available to sit. When we got home I found several long black hairs in my beef teriyaki, that ended my dinner. I called Toshi's Teriyaki the next day since it was late in the evening, the woman who answered spoke very broken English and was very rude. She could not understand that I found hairs in my food, finally she asked for my name so I could get another meal. She could not have cared I found hairs in my food. But after finding these long hairs in my food, and seeing the restaurant needs some real cleaning we will not be going back. This is one of our regular haunts. It's consistently good, quick and inexpensive. While I agree that the ambiance is lacking, the 4 drink cases confusing, and the teriyaki sauce a bit thin and very sweet, we really have no other complaints. It's super fast, even when they're really busy. The food is always well cooked and the portion sizes are very generous. The chicken katsu is a can't miss, and the chicken teriyaki is really fantastic. The cabbage salad is the perfect amount of crunch and vinegar to round out a meal. We also consistently get the gyoza and the shrimp skewers. The gyoza has a great flavor and the wrapping isn't too thick and rubbery. The shrimp skewers are very well seasoned (a little sweet and spicy), and they grill them to add some nice char. We love this place! read more

Teriyaki is one of those standardized meals that is supposed to be the same everywhere. Grill chicken, add sauce, and serve with rice and salad. It becomes all the more obvious when restaurants make it wrong or cut corners. To me Toshi's is a gold standard for what teriyaki should be like. The chicken is grilled with the right amount of crisp without being dry. The sauce tastes great with the right amount of the toasted soy sauce flavor. The rice is always fresh. The price is reasonable with a pretty good lunch deal. To top it all off, the service is reliably friendly and the dining area is always clean. I just wouldn't go anywhere else in West Seattle for teriyaki. The beef teriyaki is especially good here (thin slices of flank steak, I believe), so I usually get the chicken thigh and beef combo. read more
