I went for my boyfriends birthday after having such a great experience a couple years ago. I was so disappointed. The food was not as good and I ended up not even eating my entree - shrimp and grits were cold and not completely done. My boyfriend got the steak that was so tough and red, that I regretted the decision to return. The only saving grace was the service and that he loved his dessert. Can't say that I will return. My friends and I dined here while staying at the W in Midtown, to which it's attached. Their kale Caesar salad is so good. You can add a protein to it. I added salmon, well done, and it was awesome...so awesome we went there two days in a row and all had the salad both times. Atmosphere-wise, it's at a W so there's an inherent chill factor. They even have a lower area which is more private if that's what you prefer. There aren't many places where I'd say the draw is a salad but this one is a must try. read more

I pretty much agree with the majority of the post. We had a party of about 15 and they just aren't prepared I guess for "large" parties. Drinks and food took much longer than average to get. Just had to get up and pay to be able to leave. Took forever and everyone in our group was commenting on how long everything took. read more

Fantastic meal! I ordered the cauliflower and the seasonal meatloaf and my friend ordered the Brussel Sprouts and a garden salad. These had to be the most delicious and perfectly seasoned veggies I've ever had. The meatloaf was ok - was not your typical ground loaf, was an interesting cut of meat and a little too seasoned for my liking but I still ate most of it. Friend said her salad was great - she even ate it without the dressing and for someone that usually has to force herself to eat a salad that is saying a lot! Now dessert ! All I can say is wow! We had the carrot cake and apple cobbler ....there are no words. And to top it off impeccable and super friendly service! Bridgette was just so sweet and funny! Can't wait to try breakfast. Great experience all around. Our server Noah was attentive without hovering, and told us exactly what we wanted to know--usually before we thought to ask. The food was high quality, and progressive without being pretentious or fussy. We started with items from the "snacks" part of the menu, which we assumed would be small plates. However, the serving sizes were so large that we ended up not ordering entrees at all. The inverted chicken and waffles dish was superb. We had a couple of cocktails, which were both good but not particularly memorable. We came in just after 5pm, and were the only table in the place for the first 20 minutes or so. The pounding dance music from the bar downstairs was a bit intrusive at first, but we acclimated fairly quickly. If you're staying at the W already, it's kind of a no-brainer. read more

Pretty disappointing. Took a friend from the South who lives on the west coast and was back visiting. I ordered the catfish and it was prob the best thing we got, but nothing special. Food was generally dry and bland with hefty price tags for the portions. Fried chicken - have definitely had better. Pimento mac and cheese - huge disappointment. Pretty dry and expected more flavors. Zucchini cakes- more like bread crumb cakes. The waitress was nice and swapped out the zucchini for the asparagus side when I mentioned how dry it was and the asparagus were tasty. The drinks and the service were good though. read more

Great service. Nice restaurant. However, it's not quite ready for the W hotel. It has potential though. They need to modify the menu so that the food reflect the style. They advertise as southern cuisine, yet you do not find biscuits, cornbread or any type of bread offered. You will definitely pay a car note to get full at this place. The crab cake appetizer and attentive service inspired this post. The crab cake was perfectly executed with not too much breading and a fresh herb salad. Service was smart. We were pleasantly over-impressed by this place. Usually we try to escape the hotel bar/restaurant, but TRACE is an exception to that rule. Awesome service. Omar made me a well-crafted vodka martini. Breakfast buffet was nothing to rave about. It was included in my rate. I would never have paid for it otherwise. They were understaffed. The staff that was there was overwhelmed and didn't have a clue what they were doing. Sat people at dirty tables and cleaned while hey sat there or told them to get back up and wait a minute. Don't know why they were so overwhelmed it was a Buffet. We even got on our coffee. All they had to do was clear tables and give checks. They couldn't even do that. The 2nd day they added tip automatically. I hunk because the day before the service sucked an no one tipped. I didn't appreciate having the 18% tip. They didn't deserve it. No one did anything but hand me my check. Even the chef from the omelette station was the one who sat us. She also helped clear tables and seat other people. He wait staff saw a line of people waiting to eat. Instead of saying I'll be with you in a moment they would like at u and run looking overwhelmed in the other direction. The overall stay at the W Memorial Day weekend was the worst! Stay away! Not worth the money they charge. And you would think for as much as they charge, they would train employees-nope. read more

Delicious! Best cauliflower ever! I'm not a big fan of veggies, but after the brussel sprouts, cauliflower, and local garden salad....I might allow them onto my plate more frequently! I have been a regular at this restaurant since the opening. There is always exceptional service from both Omar and Sheldon at the bar. The cocktails at TRACE are completely original recipes with fresh squeezed juices and syrups made in house. The Farm Burger and the Pork Loin (wrapped in bacon!)are two of my absolute favorite dishes here. If you are the hesitant type, or have trouble making decisions on what to eat, just ask for Bridgette! She has never steered me in the wrong direction! read more

I visited Atlanta this past weekend and stayed at the W hotel. Since I am a big fan of farm to table cuisine I had to visit Trace during my stay. My family of 6 went for brunch on a Saturday morning and didn't all want the breakfast menu. Our amazing waiter Corey and the new waitress he was training both went above and beyond to make us happy. He went and spoke with the chef so we were able to order off of both the breakfast and lunch menu. It seemed everyone wanted to make special orders eliminating or adding ingredients and both he and his trainee did backflips to accommodate our every desire, and my family is not easy to please! The food and cocktails were a 7/10 but the service took the overall experience to a whole new level. Fresh ingredients followed by phenomenal customer service(so rare in this day and age), this place is worth a try! read more

It's directly under the leak in the roof. I'm sure a previous guest just complained and was reseated but maybe you'll enjoy it. If not, I see you have an umbrella. Slow and expensive. My first time here it took 1/2 hour for my food to come out. My second time I waited 10 minutes to be greeted by waitstaff and left. The food here was just decent (more on that in a second) but the service was awful. Note to the wait staff: it is never okay to bus plates and glasses before your guests done eating. This happened numerous times during the evening to all members of our party. Several times we had to tell the crew "would you mind if we finished first?" The rush to bus our table was ironic, because it took just short of an eternity for our food to come out of the kitchen. The bus staff may want to learn the international signs for "I'm through" are overturned forks at 5 o'clock, not taking a moment to converse with your dining partner. It became obvious to us by the end of the night that the staff was in a rush to set up for the next morning's breakfast and just wanted to get the heck out of there. Midway through our dinner, our server up and left due to an "emergency," and his replacement was cold, unhelpful and borderline rude. No explanations were given about the desert menu (one of us ordered "Honeysuckle gelato" only to get coffee-flavored gelato. The waiter did not volunteer until we were paying the check that Honeysuckle was just the brand name, but how else would we have known that?). Aside from the brusk service, the food was fair. Among the small plates we had were the deviled eggs (nothing special), corn fritters (good) and a toast with Vidalia onions and peaches (onions were burnt). Large plates included the rib eye (excellent with the grilled okra), fried chicken (good), shrimp and grits (watery) and roasted chicken with black eyes peas (those who had it liked it). read more

I really want to extend my thanks and compliments to all the staff at Trace for our amazing experience there on New Year's Day. Our group of 58 all showed up together for the brunch, and it was outstanding! The food was off-the-charts good, and everyone in our group was saying it was the best brunch they ever had! It was a special menu for the holiday, and it couldn't have been more perfect. ALL the staff was so accommodating and made us all feel very welcome. Not only did Manager Terry go out of his way to help with the planning for that large group, he also helped afterward communicating with us to make sure we were satisfied with our experience. Such a nice memory for us after a wonderful New Year's Eve wedding! The everyday brunch, of course, was not as extravagant, but I thought it was adequate and very tasty. It is served nicely, very hot, and just right for a regular day. The free coffee bar is perfect - all set up for "serve yourself" and better than the average coffee/tea arrangement...and much, MUCH better than those little coffee makers in the rooms. Only giving this experience one star because zero isn't an option. My breakfast at Trace was TERRIBLE! So terrible that I'm compelled to write this review while still sitting in the restaurant. Pancakes were thick and somehow gooey and tasted of nothing but the oil they were prepared in...had to send them back. My colleague and I also ordered the Food Table (breakfast buffet) and absolutely NOTHING on it was remotely appetizing. I've never had food so flavorless in my life. Not sure how you manage to ruin a blueberry coffee cake, but Trace did it. Were it not a business expense and thusly coming out of my own pocket, I would have refused to pay for the meal. read more

I really dnt usually write anything but this time this property management needs to fix this.Concierge working on 6/30/17 racially profile me and my wife and ask me if i had any papers or a drivers liscence if not i could not get a tour of the property.as we waiting another couple entered the building , he did not ask for any type of id and went ahead and asked for the name (which he never asked me) .worst experience ever ,is sad to say that as a business owner i would never reconmend this place to anybody specially with a racist person in the front of the building.the conciece is the face of the whole property at the beginning. I end up leaving and he didnt even try to stop me.i waited for 30 minutes with nobody coming to say hi to us or anything. read more

We dined at Trace 8/2/2014. First: The service is impeccable. Everyone makes you feel welcomed and that you belong there. Our server was Cary. We was very knowledgeable of the menu. He listened to what we stated we liked and made excellent recommendations based on our taste. Second: This is gourmet southern food. If you want regular southern food go to Cracker Barrel. The quality of the food was top-notch. You could taste the freshness in everything. We had the chicken and waffles, zucchini cakes, catfish, and pork tenderloin. It was pure happiness. I had no room for desert, but everything was soo good I decided to have a bite of my husband's cheesecake. I ended up eating half. Third: the cocktails were amazing! I will go here for the cocktails alone. I think this is a great place to go for elevated dining without the stuffy atmosphere. I had a fairly large party (around 20) for breakfast at Trace and I must say the staff was amazing. Hands down, the pancakes were the best I've ever had and I consider myself a pancake expert. Can't comment on dinner as I've never had dinner there. Will definitely be visiting again. read more
