2020 is the past. 2021 is our future. In 2020, most of the food experiences were take out so it's hard to review the food. Now, it's 2021, time to explore ( with mask and social distance). So here we are. My thoughts for this place: This is a traditional classic Continental restaurant that is been around the Morgan hill area through out the up and down of the covic19 And any restaurant can survive the harsh business world is A OK in my book. Plus they do serve good BBQ. Here is my scoring card for this restaurant: 1) Location: ( 5 Point ) - Great location for customer to see and find. Right in the town down area. OK parking for street parking and short walk from public parking lot. 2) Decoration : (3 Point) - They still have the original decoration. Clean but not up to date. Can't blame anyone especially durning the pandemic. 3) Price: ( 2 point)- The price is not competitive at all. A little bit pricey compare to other same stars and type food they serve. 4) Quality and Taste : ( 3 point)- The quality is ok, food taste is good and portions are below average . 5) Type of cuisine standard : ( 4 point) - The style of BBQ food they serve is pretty common. We came here on a long weekend and the place was busy as expected. The line and wait for food wasn't too bad, but the trickiest part was finding an open table. It was well worth it though! The hot link, brisket, and ribs were all so flavorful with the best texture. Maybe some of the best that we've had in the Bay Area. The restaurant was themed. Lots of wood and western decor. The barbecue was delicious. We chose something different from the menu. Brisket, chicken, pulled pork and beef tips. All so flavorful. There was a large beer selection; craft beers and some from local breweries (Promised land) we visited on a weeknight so service was quick. I've been going here for years when I first discovered it during a work-lunch meeting. Word of mouth got around at work and we're all jealous of one another when one of us is here. This is one of my favorite stops when I'm working in the area or coming back from Carmel. I usually pick up either large tri-tip or brisket sandwich with garlic bread and/or potato salad or coleslaw, and share my lunch with my husband. It's big enough for two people to share. Unless you don't want to share and are really hungry, then keep it all for yourself. I have brought home the family packs and my family hasn't complained. Brisket is usually the first to go, so get there early. New COVID-19 Normal/What to know before you go: - Outdoor seating is set up in front of the restaurant (pre-Covid) and next to the building. - Orders can be made to go or curbside pick-up if you plan ahead. - Parking lot is behind the building, as well as a parking garage. - No seating inside, you can walk in to pick up/pay for your order. - There is a side window to place orders. - Hand sanitizer is available - Staff is in PPE and customers must wear masks when inside the restaurant to pick up their order or using the restroom. read more

It's been well over two years since my original review, and an update is in order. Two important things really impressed me several days ago about Trail Dust, which now warrants a bump up from 4 to 5 stars. Firstly, they've earned a 100/100 Heath Score!! You read that correctly...100/100!! I ​saw this on their Yelp page as I was contemplating another visit. If a BBQ joint can do this, why can't other restaurants? I'd encourage customers to patronize small businesses​ that​ ​actually care enough about their customers and their own business to maintain good food handling and sanitation practices. HUGE KUDOS!!! Secondly, their adjustment to the changing landscape amid COVID-19 is remarkable. Now you simply order on the side of the building and wait for your order. They've also built bench seating along the side of the building that allows for plenty of distancing. It's really a comfortable set-up, given the very limited space that exists. Service is also reasonably speedy, given how busy they normally are. Kudos again! Their BBQ ribs have always been and are ​still AMAZING!! I'm not sure if I was just hangry during my last visit several days ago, but I swore they've gotten even better. These aren't the "fall off the bone" kind of ribs, which I'm not a fan of and aren't typically the kind that is​ entered into BBQ competitions anyway. So, if you're in search of that, these aren't for you. You'll have to actually use your teeth a bit to get the meaty and juicy meat off the ​bones, but it's worth it. Trail Dust is a Morgan Hill staple -- I have lunched there a few times and absolutely love their BBQ. I was in the neighborhood and wanted to pick up some dinner before heading home. I ordered their BBQ Chicken Meal which came with two pieces of chicken (leg and thigh) smothered in BBQ sauce, a side of potato salad, a slice of bread, and a house salad (considered an upgrade for a side so additional charge is applied) for about $20. The BBQ sauces are what seals the deal -- both the original and spicy sauces are super addicting. Be sure to ask for extra on the side if BBQ sauce is your thing. They even sell huge BBQ family packs that can feed over 20 people! As of September 2020, indoor dining is not yet available. However, there are plenty of shaded tables to the side and in front of the restaurant if you want to dine outside. Online orders are preferred but if you want to stop in to order, go to the side door -- you'll see signs or a line leading to it. It's a bit tricky to find because it's hard to see the Trail Dust BBQ sign from the main road so follow your navigation closely. All in all, incredible BBQ! Worth a stop. read more

Living in Morgan Hill I haven't had the chance to explore the restaurant in the area. I've always wanted to try Trail Dust. I finally have and I honestly should have came sooner. Love their sour beers from Alvarado Street Brewery. Went well with my tri-tip sandwich on garlic bread. Love the option of spicy and regular sauces on the side. Definitely had to go back the next day and try their pulled pork, ribs, potato salad and coleslaw. Delicious! I am definitely coming back for more and on a regular. Staff was great and very friendly. Loved that they have outdoor seating. Benches look newly built with umbrellas to keep cool in the warm sun. Lots of parking at the back. read more

The bbq is delicious. The sides (all of them) are mediocre. Any of the meats are perfect but the coleslaw, the beans, the Mac and cheese, the potato salad. All gross. Thus the minus one star. The meats were tender and juicy and very meaty. Very little fat and gristle. Just enough to balance out the meal. I have been here twice and the service is friendly and fast! The only time we were MEH about them was when we ordered to-go right when they opened. It didn't taste as good. But we love their ribs! Our go-to choice. Always satisfying.
