Tried this place 3 times. Disappointed with the customer service every time. We've been ignored at the "All You Can Eat" because we weren't regulars. Tried again today, put our names down for "All You Can Eat" and told the wait was an hour. Checked in at 1-hour without a call, and they said it was another 30-minutes with a party ahead of us. Looking at the bar for the "All You Can Eat" there was 3-4 open seats where parties were spread out. This could have allowed us to eat sooner- but the customer experience was not prioritized. Will not be returning to this location. read more

Alright first off, got seated pretty fast which was nice and took about 5-10m to take drink orders which isn't bad but not good. Waiter was nice and cracking jokes so it made it better, ordered and waited about 30-45m for 3 mins lates of sushi with about 7-10 pieces each. Mine which wasn't cooked was warm which wasn't pleasant to eat but tasted good otherwise. Overall just having to wait a super long time for a couple bites of sushi which doesn't even fill you up, for 75$ definitely wasn't fun. Dont come here if your looking for a proper meal but if you want an expensive and overpriced snack to hold you off for while your at the table go ahead. read more

well where to begin. I've been going to trappers since they were in the old place. When they first opened it was awesome. Great sushi, good service the works. but ever since they moved into the new place it has gone down hill. the sushi is still ok but the service sucks. Went there this evening(sun) about 7 pm. Just a couple of roll and drinks my partner and l. Walk in wait a little a server comes over I tell her two she says it's gonna be about 25 min. I look around there's 10 empty tables 4 seats at the sushi bar a few seats in the regular bar and 4 or 5 customers leaving. I ask why is there a 25 min wait to be seated. She mumbles something about the tables being dirty. I saw at least 4 clean tables. So I look on the app it says 5 min wait. I sit down. Twenty min go by no one being seated. all the empty tables are now set up. still no one seated. I go to the front get the attention of one of the servers( there was 5 or 6 of them hanging around beverage area doing nothing. Finally the bartender came over and I asked why we couldn't get a table. This is what she told me. The manager said not to seat anyone cause the online and phone in orders were backed up. well that kind of stupid wouldn't it make sense to seat the only people waiting so maybe they can order cocktails and some miso things the servers can provide. Well that was the last straw we left and I'm never coming back. We went to a place on n 26th near Pearl. Flying sushi. friendly people,great sushi and good prices. They were busier then trappers but no problem we got seated right away. I highly recommend this place. traooers not so much read more

We went for the All-You-Can-Eat Sushi. The service was first rate. We waited 15 minutes or less for seats at the bar. The chefs explained how things worked and always asked if we were ready for more. Our waitress got us drinks and checked on us regularly. The sushi choices are too Americanized. There is a lot of fried items in the rolls or the rolls themselves are fried. The spicy wasn't very spicy. There is a lot of teriyaki in the rolls which we all avoided. Unfortunately, I don't think we'll be going back. read more

Never again. The amount of Mayo based sauces should've been a clue. I've had better sushi from the grocery store. Almost all the rolls had shrimp- have you heard there's more than shrimp in sushi? How about some crab? The server was inattentive and watching her wipe Tables was just aggravating, wiping all the table crumbs on the floor, what is that nonsense? I love sushi but sushi doesn't love me. I always feel embarrassed and bad because I'm allergic to a lot of seafood but I love sushi. I hate having to basically let my server know a list of what I can't eat. But for the first time ever I felt completely welcomed and felt like someone actually wanted to help me enjoy my experience with sushi. Omar gave me a complete list of what I could eat or what I could modify and even went as far as even wanting to help get a custom roll that fit my needs. Amazing experience. It was our daughters 17th birthday and we wanted to get sushi. The service was bad, we ordered our appetizers the waitress first brought the appetizers to the wrong table and we had to flag her down. The Food was okay when we got it but the tempura veggies all it was mostly fried leeks and it was bad. We had to wait a very long time to get our entrees and we had ordered California roll which was very bland and had no flavor, then we got California crunch roll which was okay, lastly we had ordered the teriyaki chicken plate and when it came the chicken was room temperature and over cooked, and the rice was crunchy and cold. I don't know why people talked about this place like it was so good. This place was the worst sushi I have ever had. That is coming from someone who has eaten sushi from a Gas Station. The food took forever to come. When it came the flavor was not there. It really didn't taste like anything. I had the Dragon Roll. My kids did like the California Roll so it is hard to mess that up. The miso soup was cold not warm cold. I will not be coming again. If someone asks me to go I will tell them I will meet them after eating at the 7/11 across the street. read more

Absolutely terrible "sushi", had Bonney Lake and it was overfilled with cream cheese, I've had Bonney Lake from Parkland trappers and it's my fave so I know what it should taste like and this ain't it. The Vader was also a FAIL. Ordered miso soup, they messed that up too! Tasted like a bottle of straight soy sauce. Yuck! Made them take that nastyness back. Needs experienced sushi chefs, nothing but rookies at this location. I've been to parkland and puyallup Trappers many times and they are very good compared to this location. Avoid! read more

Food low quality sushi. Ratio of protein,veggie and rice disproportionate, there are more rice. Sushi bar cook is rude, untrained in customer service, untrained in Japanese cuisine. Service of waiter is ok. The cook serve sashimi to other customer but when I ask her she lied in front of my face. Then ask her again do you serve sashimi? Can you serve me hamachi sashimi? She rudely throw two sashimi on my plate. Not good ambiance. read more

Sushi for people who hate sushi and hate themselves. Unseasoned rice, globs of mayo, fish that tastes like it was a Grocery Outlet reject. I simply cannot fathom having low enough standards to ever eat here again. read more

Very very very good. I recommend the bento box. Sushi is amazing. Beef teriyaki is excellent. Chicken katsu is phenomenal. Highly recommend.

This used to be my go to place for date night food, my husband and I will no longer be coming here. For the past 3 months, the waits have been insanely long, 1-2 hours. We decided to make reservations once this became the norm, but today was the last straw. We made a reservation for 6pm, after finding no parking within a block we finally found a spot and booked it to the restaurant. We walked in the door at 6:05 to a line of 3 customers in front of us. I wanted to be polite to them as well as the hostess and let her handle them before notifying her of our reservation. By the time she gets to us, it is 6:10, and she says that she'd be right back because she needed to talk to her manager. The manager comes over and informs us that since we are 10 minutes late to our reservation, we forfeited it and must now get put on the waitlist. I explained there was no parking and that we had already been standing in there for 5 minutes waiting to be seen. She explained that due to staff shortages and how busy the restaurant was, she had no choice but to put us on the waitlist, and how sorry she was. Very frustrating, we just left and found another restaurant. The staff shortages have been noticeable, but the food is good and kept us coming back. But after this insanely poor service, we will not be returning. I'm not necessarily angry with the hostess or manager, I'm annoyed that a decent restaurant is losing customers due to not hiring or being able to maintain adequate staffing. Food was great, however we just happened to notice a 2% restaurant fee charge on our bill. The hostess told us that Corporate implemented that in November. She has no idea what the fee is for, and you are charged the fee whether you pay by cash or credit. I don't like when charges are added without my knowledge, nor do I think Trappers Sushi Corporation should make a sneaky profit like this. Won't be back. read more

Got on the waiting list with a quoted 10 minute wait. sat around for 10 minutes on an uncomfortable bench in the corner. finally took a look around at the empty booths and spaces at the bar and decided they must not want my money and took off. Service sucked, had BONES in my roll, sushi rolls came out before appetizers (two orders of edamame) the sauces tasted like pure mayonnaise with a hint of siracha. I'm no sure why this place has a bad rating. We went there on a Sunday night, got seated within 5 minutes and had a wonderfully friendly server. I got the Trapper dinner combo which was a good portion of food for $28 and the fish tasted super fresh. My wife got the Chrissy role which she loved and our little one even loved the fried calamari. Do yourself a favor and give this place a try. Don't be scared off by the 3 star rating which we almost were. read more

We've always loved Trappers and have frequented many locations! Bonney Lake is great! The Tacoma location has some work to do. The sushi rice isn't seasoned and the rolls simply fall apart-you need a fork to eat them. Overpriced for what you get-I concur with others, it's like grocery store sushi. This is one of our favorite places to go! Kenneth is amazing - I can't eat dairy anymore, and he was willing to substitute cream cheese with avocado so I can still enjoy them, and his signature rule role is to die for! read more

Customer service was horrible. When walking in the door of a restaurant you would think you would be greeted by the hostess. No she just stares you, with a blank, I hate it here look. We stood there for a second wondering if we were even in the right place. She just continued to stare at us until we asked if we could sit at the sushi bar. She just stood there and finally said it would be a 45 minute wait. It was about a 90 minute wait. We asked if we could wait in the bar. She said "sure" and continued to stock toothpicks. We seated our selves no menus, no help at all. The waitress that finally helped us was nice and so was the kitchen staff. read more

Went here for all you can eat sushi thinking how bad could it be? I eat a lot of Japanese food and I was shocked at how terrible the sushi was. Not fresh ingredients, terrible sushi combos, and shady looking fish. The spicy tuna roll was especially terrible; alarmingly red, stringy, and paste like. Save your money and go to a small owned sushi restaurant like Sake sushi in Tacoma. Not exaggerating when I say I get nauseous driving by trappers now because I'm reminded of how bad the food was. I am a big fan of the all-you-can-eat menu at the bar! I had the lunch option today which had over 20 rolls to choose from that all looked amazing. My chefs were Isaiah and Carol, with a few other wonderful staff whose names I unfortunately did not catch. The service was exceptional and I had great conversations with everyone behind the bar. I had a few rolls that I loved, but the Buddha-licious roll that Isaiah prepared was unbelievably good. I'm so grateful for the warm hospitality and attentive staff, they made all the difference. Where is the management and leadership for this place??? You have employees (waitresses and whatever guy with long hair and a hoody over his polo shirt are) over by the soda machines on their phones while customers have empty glasses awaiting for refills and others at the front waiting to be greeted and seated. Seriously some people just dont care about their jobs at all anymore. If there is one thing that stuck out about this place that could be the reason why its giving this type of experience to its customers is there is seriously a lack of leadership. Speaking with one of the waitresses who informed me about them not having a head chef or management turnover, you would think the owners would atleast request other leaders from different locations to fill the position for the time being to atleast run it to Trappers experience standards. Its disappointing to see some employees such as the asian waitress (unfortunately I dont know her name) and our sushi chef (currently going for the master sushi chef title) who are trully giving their best to give the best customer experience, are being left to babysit some of the other employees who you can clearly see dont give a damn. I encourage Trappers to please have someone from leadership just do a secret shop of this place and see how it really is ran. I know not all trappers locations are like this, hell ive even waited close to 2 hours at the parkland location and didnt care about the wait because of the customer experience is great there. But this Tacoma location seems to get worse ever single time we come in. The experience we've had isnt just a one off type but seriously multiple visits keep happening like this. Secret shop your locations and make sure they are operating to the real Trappers way, you will be really surprised the difference between this location and others. I was also there when the boy in the hoody over his polo sat the underage group at the bar, you realize how much trouble your location could be in and he didnt even care and also spoke loudly saying "thats not my job to know their age or where i sit them". So definitely look into it cause its sad to see this, dont let one location ruin your reputation! read more

This is a review of the takeout from Trapper's, not the dine-in experience which I haven't tried yet. Sushi quality is... meh. It's not like the fish was bad, but just not as tasty as our usual go-to places (Fujiya and Sushi Tama). Salad and miso were small (more than usual) and bland. Rolls skew toward unusual combinations, but not as imaginative as, say, Gari of Sushi. Lots of rolls with cream cheese and various sauces. Not really my thing - I get sushi for the fish, rice, and vegetables. All in all, we're going to stick with the other places. read more

UPDATE: nevermind. gave the place another shot... and it was even WORSE. Looked like someone puked up their own roll onto mine, then ate that roll, shat it out, puked on it, then shat on it again. All before I took my first bite.... but tasted DELICIOUS! So... I'll give this place a solid 4/5. read more

Our lunch a few weeks back was very good. Service was great at the table. Filled up on 2 generous sushi rolls and generously sized nigiri combo with tastier than expected hot miso soup for a decent price. Our last visit was in the old building, so price increase since then was no shock. The sushi bar stayed full throughout our visit but there was plenty of table seating. Our only problem was not Trapper's fault - my wife tripped and fell hard on the unpainted/unmarked concrete steps outside. Manager said he'd talk to building owners new mgmnt company. Garage parking is limited, especially when a full sized dually pickup hogs two Trapper's spots. read more
