Was a bit skeptical by the non descriptive location in a strip mall (then again what restaurant in NJ isn't in a strip mall). Anyway, walk in and immediately see the sign for halal and placed my order for the half chicken combo "hot" and chicken wings "extra hot" with corn. I observed what came to my table with astonishment. The caramelized skin glistening over the slightly coated peri peri sauce. I thought to myself if this taste as good as it looks... Well, it was not as good as it looked. It actually exceeded in the taste dept. the chicken was moist and I am getting the umami flavor bomb in my mouth. I felt a tear of happiness coming down the side of my face as I could not believe what i discovered (thanks to a good friend who told me about this joint). Have been back on multiple occasions. Food is still top notch. I took a star off because their drink machine seems to be always "out of order" when its busy. Once i saw two children in front of the machine ignoring the out of order sign and try to get soda in a water cup. The machines seemed to be fine and operational with one child getting a bubbly coke and another, a fruity carbonated beverage. The two possible theories are that they didnt know their machine works OR they purposely put an out of order sign during busy hours to entice people to buy bottled drinks/not share fountain drinks. I went to the restaurant today - and the man that was handling the food - wearing purple gloves....while he was rolling up a green burrito - he stopped rolling them in the middle, then used his electric cigarette and vaped! I was a regular customer but was recently turned off by the way the staff handled my situation. I ordered via ubereats and when our meal got here it was missing part of the order. I called back but they said there was nothing they could do so I should come pick it up. If I could come pick it up I wouldn't have paid 6 bucks delivery. They kept putting me on long holds saying they also couldn't refund me the missing items or send the rest of the order via ubereats. I went to Porto's for the first time yesterday with a group of friends. I ordered 1/4 chicken and peri fries. My friends ordered other portions of chicken, different sandwiches, rice, and corn. All the food was extremely well cooked and really tasty! I will definitely recommend this place to other people and will definitely be coming back. With this being said, I went here during the first 3 weeks of the restaurant opening. Management is still figuring out how to manage the large volumes. We ended up waiting quite a while for our food. It was a Saturday evening and very crowded. At the end of our meal, the chef and owner came out with chocolate cake (which was a must have!!) and apologized for the wait. She explained the peri chicken process and gave us background on herself. This made waiting for the food worth it and I appreciate her acknowledging the growing pains. I used to enjoy coming to dine here especially during Ramadan. On the last two occasions I have noticed what seemed to be the store managers doing absolutely nothing while the front was full to capacity. On another occasion I witnessed the younger manager yelling, and basically humiliating a coworker while they were trying to take my order. I heard great things about this place, and since it's so close to my job, I figured I would give it a shot for lunch. I ordered at 12:31pm and by 1:07pm I still had not received my food. The employees stared at me like a deer in headlights when I asked how much longer it would be - my entire order consisted of a chicken pita and fries. It took another 10 minutes to get a refund - so my lunch hour was ruined and no food was consumed. It seemed like everybody in the restaurant was waiting 30+ minutes for food, which is just ridiculous. Even people who placed phone orders had to wait! I have been a regular to this place trying their Perry Perry chicken every time. To be honest the food quality has went downhill. The chicken is burnt most of the time. Probably the worst service i have ever experienced at any restaurant. Went in today after ordering on the phone and getting told it'll be an extra 25 minutes. No problem, went in after 25 minutes and got told it'll be another 20 minutes. Whatever, then i went home to find that my order wasn't all there. They had missed out on one of the chickens. I've been to this restaurant about three times now. The chicken with the lime seasoning is out of this world. even the mini wings are good to try if you don't want to have a whole chicken. Hidden gem in a mini mall. Tried this place out for the first time last week.The woman at the counter happily explained more about the food, which was very welcoming. I get the leg and thigh medium which is perfectly juicy with just a bit of char on it with amazing spicy flavor. Rice is great too but the white sauce and peri peri sauce make it better. One of my friends introduced me to this place and yesterday was my fourth visit with another friend. I wanted him to try it. The place is a breath of fresh air. The quality of the food items and service is exceptional. I would say it is probably one of the best restaurants in the state currently. The food can be compared to any fine restaurant in New York City. I would recommend getting their chicken with medium sauce, French Fries, and coleslaw. Very disappointed. I made an order for pickup, I went home and discovered it was completely the wrong order. When I called back to inform them, they had no reaction. They didn't offer any compensation, they didn't apologize, they just said to bring the food back. Which upset me because this was during iftar. I had to leave my iftar and go back. And them being a Muslim establishment and not apologizing was so upsetting. When we brought the food back, we stood at the counter for twenty minutes before anyone else acknowledged us. Then we heard one of the cooks say we were the people who "took" the wrong food, as if we went behind the counter and took it ourself. Like seriously? You GAVE us the wrong order. Handed us the wrong order. The boy at the counter and I guess the manager at the time we're talking and they mentioned that the people who got our order brought back the food. And the manager told the boy to give us that food. I also need to mention that almost an hour and a half had passed since we got the food to when we brought it back because live almost 30 minutes away too. Which was another reason we were annoyed. So they weren't gonna compensate us and they were gonna give us OLD food. The other person could've opened the food and spit in it for all we know? And then to say that in front of the customer? The only good thing I have to say is that the boy at the counter, Nasir, told him to remake all of our food before we had the chance to speak up. And then they forgot about us! We had to ask about our food and we heard one of the cooks say, "oh...we forgot". WHAT?! The fact that we didn't receive an apology, were almost given old food and that we live SO FAR and had to make two trips, and that we were at the counter Unacknowledged and waited 40 minutes for our new order because they forgot about us, is infuriating. read more
