I visited the location in Richardson and had a wonderful experience, so when this location opened I was excited! The staff is very friendly. We visited on a Friday night as a party of 6 (3 children 3 adults) and were sat right away. The ambiance is fine. Nothing special, the outdoor seating would be awesome with nice weather. We sat inside. Restrooms are very clean. Kids menu, offers variety that everyone can get something they enjoy. Our group also ordered the kitchen sink gumbo, just enough spice and flavorful & the catfish and shrimp platter with okra (okra is not breaded but very delicious, a little salty) kids enjoyed the Mac and cheese as well. The service here was great; however the food just didn't meet expectations. The crab cakes were pretty good; the fried green tomatoes with shrimp were ok. There wasn't any seasoning in the batter which would've made it better and the remoulade was ok. My kids got the Mac n cheese and it was ok for Mac n cheese. My friend ordered a salad that came deconstructed and there was hair in her chicken. Our waitress was amazing and took care of that dish by getting it remade quickly. Too many of the items on the menu were fried....I mean I get that's my own opinion; but it would've been nice to have had more non fried options. The restaurant was about 50% full, but admittedly it was freezing outside. There are many tables and good space. Right now they are decked out for Mardi Gras. Our service was prompt and the restaurant is really clean! I got the mahi with the herb butter plate (mashed potatoes and veggies). The mahi was good, the mashed potatoes are elevated with some bacon and cheese on top and the veggies were squash and zucchini. My husband got the red fish with the etouffee and okra. We both finished every bite. The one drawback is for a place decorated for Mardi Gras that also serves a seasonal dessert...you'd think that they'd have king cake. Nope. He did remove it from our check but was greatly disappointed in the quality. The menu did not have other non-seafood options as the Richardson location. My wife had fried oysters with coleslaw. The oysters were not good and the coleslaw was warm. We will not be returning. My family and I tried Tricky Fish at The Star during the week. We had a dozen raw oysters, and they were large & delicious. My husband and I both had the Tricky Fish, which was redfish with ettoufette and dirty rice. Flavorful but not spicey at all, which we loved. Portions were large, and we had enough to eat a light dinner the next day. My son had fish and chips, and the fish was cod. All were delicious. My son had a craft beer. The server was very welcoming and nice but could have checked on us a little more on a slow night, but we managed to wave him over a couple of times. The ambiance is clean and modern but not pretentious. We wore nice shorts & a shirt and were fine there. We will for sure be back to try more options. We experienced the greatest greeting of Texas hospitality by Hannah P. My family of 5 loved our visit and our lunch at the Frisco, Texas location. The food was unbelievably better than expected and was only enhanced by our amazing server who gave us her recommendations, what people love, and what we would appreciate on this Good Friday with no meat. We all loved our time here. Outside of the welcoming atmosphere, the food was fantastic. The catfish was crispy and fresh. The shrimp was just the perfect crunch and texture. The shrimp linguine was a mouthwatering surprise, and finally, the coleslaw had such a unique blend and flavor unrivaled. That alone is worth coming back for. Hannah even said the magical engineers in the kitchen always concoct new items on the menu all the time. Definitely recommend Tricky Fish, but especially at this location. The Tricky Fish has decent Yelp reviews and was near my hotel so I took a client to dinner. The star of the whole meal was the calamari app and it was fantastic. Great flavor and nice crunch. I ordered the fish and chips for my main and it was not good. The fish was greasy and the coating was not crispy. I was disappointed in the main after having such an awesome app. Another positive note was the drinks. My client had a few and it was during happy hour so only $5 each which was a great price. So all in all if I go back to Tricky Fish it will be for apps and drinks. read more
