I can't wrap my head around how this place has 4/5 stars. The reason I tried it is because it's highly rated. I just picked up a lunch combo and I can almost guarantee the rice and chicken was made yesterday, and just reheated today. The rice is literally crunchy. The broccoli is raw. The chicken is almost all bread and what little chicken there is, I'm still chewing on it. And to top it all off, I found a 1-inch sharp chicken bone in one of the chunks of bread they served me. Came to dinner here with my brother while in Detroit for business. Wow. In a world where we're left to thumb through thousands of homogenized Chinese eateries, Trizest certainly provides of breath of fresh/authentic air! We went directly to the more authentic area of the menu and, where to start? Opened up with some Dan-Dan noodles and dumplings - both were excellent. Followed up with a spiced pork/tofu dish and double-sauces squirrel fish - again, it's delicious!! I went back again last night for some comfort food - chicken and shrimp fried rice with extra egg - I slept like a baby!! ;). Delicious again. Although the owner (I'm assuming) isn't the warmest little cupcake, it's not to be taken personally. And besides, I eat out for the food - it the validation to my sense of self worth. ;). *Really* good. Not simply "good". I have been to Trizest before on 3-4 occasions, but it had been probably close to 5 years for me, and today some fellow Yelpers were getting together there for a pseudo-post-COVID-screw-it-we're-getting-together, and I joined in for the fun! Usually when I go to Trizest, my cuisine consists solely of the Chinese side of the menu: the dumplings with chili oil, the squirrel tail fish, the garlic green beans, etc. You know, the *real deal*. And make no mistake about it: I had my dumplings and squirrel fish there today, and they stood the test of time. Still very good stuff. But you know what? My friends ordered mostly American Chinese, which I've never had here before: sesame chicken (which I didn't try), Kung Pao chicken (which I did), and Orange Chicken (which I did). And let me tell you: the Orange Chicken here basically rewrites the book on that dish for me! By a sure two letter grades, it bested the best Orange Chicken I've ever had anywhere else. Now, normally? Orange Chicken is certainly acceptable to me as food/fuel, but it's often quite disappointing: the chicken is overly battered, the meat is dried out, the sauce is cloying and one-note, and it's just...it's just patently mediocre at best. I find myself wanting something else instead almost always. NOT THIS STUFF. This particular example of Orange Chicken *commands* the attention of your mouth. You take a piece of this into your mouth, and you get yourself a flavor and texture explosion that basically starts a rave going. This is an Orange Chicken that made me sit up and take note. I'll be going back for this, and this alone, for myself. Not only that, but it's presented nicely. I suppose if you're not a fan of broccoli, you might not be impressed, but I thought the presentation was nice. Plus, the color of the OC is impressively *darker* than what I'm used to seeing. I had more than one bite of my friend's dish, and I was glad to get it, especially considering that I really wasn't all that keen on "another OC". I tried some cold Szechuan noodles that another friend had, and they were OK, but nothing that rang my bell too much. Besides: there was *plenty* of other, great food to try. I thought the Kung Pao was decent, but fair is fair: Kung Pao is really never up my alley all that much, so the fact that this dish didn't make me do backflips is hardly a surprise. I would probably be more into their version of a General Tso's or something. Still: a very nice version of Kung Pao, with a correctly-implemented spice level. Service this time was pretty darned good! I didn't go without anything that I can remember, and we all had a pretty nice time. I now have another perfectly compelling reason to return to Trizest: that Orange Chicken. Yes, it's American Chinese, but this particular version is American Chinese done *right*. I doff my cap to them...I had really become quite jaded towards Orange Chicken over the years. This really pumps the energy back into that dish for me. Another job well done by Trizest. read more

Didn't even look good. My dad ordered it. The tofu was okay, but I think we were all expecting a actual little hot pot with pork and tofu, not pork and tofu in one hot pot... if that makes sense. 4/5 for food and ambiance. For a vegetarian, this is as good as it gets for Chinese food. They have so many options to choose from. For appetizers, one serving will easily serve 3-4 people- the portions are huge. Definitely get the Garlic Cucumber. If you're really hungry, get the Sichuan Cold Noodle. But I have to warn you, it's really spicy! The fake chicken is delicious and actually filled with protein, which is hard to come by as a vegetarian. The Vegetarian Orange Chicken was fire. I can't wait to come back and try more! read more

This place is the best. I've known since my first visit, during a dinner rush on a weeknight​. My waitress stopped mid taking my order in fluent English to holler at a server table bound, loaded with trays in rapid Chinese. This dual lingual capability struck me as super awesome, and has since too. Makes menu questioning very easy. Anything is awesome so long as you can stand a little heat. They have so many vegetarian options I haven't yet ordered the same thing twice! Gong bao tofu, vegetarian "chicken", family style tofu all get my seal of approval. My friend came with me once and ordered sichuan spicy chicken and was very impressed (think spicy popcorn chicken, or ask for that if you can't remember). The waitress just told me I can get tofu done in that style. Definitely on my bucket list. Decor is a little tired but still very regal considering its in a worn out strip mall. Like any good Chinese restaurant... Fortune cookie included with purchase! Lunch buffet is served 1130-130, once I make it to that l will update... TL;DR version: go here. Great fried food! Super flavorful and can be spicy but everything is made super fast and fresh! It's one of those places where you have to be in the mood but when it does happen, it hits the spot! Try the orange beef...I was a bit offended that my friend ordered. I was thinking he is wasting a fish, but this is no Panda Express! You'll see what I mean, so give the orange beef a try! March 2022: Sadly, they no longer have the lunch buffet. It sounds like they've gotten rid of it permanently (or at least until COVID has vanished from the world and a restaurant operator doesn't have to worry about communal serving). That's a bummer; I always enjoyed it, and ordering off the menu as a solo diner means I only get one big plate of a single thing, which isn't as fun. Fortunately, the rest of their food is superb. I've only ever ordered off of Menu 2, the Sichuan menu (because if I wanted standard Cantonese-American, I could get that anywhere), and everything I've ever had has been outstanding. read more

I'm actually on the fence about this review between 3.5 and 4 stars.... The food tasted good, not exceptional or anything except for the Cold Noodles (one of the best I've tasted). I did have an issue with one of my dishes that totally ruined it for me but I'll just assume that it's because of the communication issue. My table never even ate the dish because we were disappointed at it. Disappointment: We ordered the Salt & Pepper Shrimp Dish and from what I understand going to numerous places, this dish should have had some form of deep fried shrimp tossed in some dry seasoning and herbs. This place had no fried batter or fried shrimp of any kind and the sauce was wet. We talked to the server and owner who told us this is how the dish was....wish we had known this before hand or else we would not have ordered it. Maybe this is how the dish is supposed to be cooked in an authentic way...in any case, the Salt & Pepper Squid was done right and deep fried and then tossed in a dry seasoning which is what I thought the shrimp would be like.... Being of Chinese descent, I ironically don't like Chinese food as a child. However, now I can never think of a time when I say no to Chinese. I love all spectrum of Chinese food, including Americanized Chinese (you know which franchise do I mean), but I do miss something authentic from time to time. I have been on a quest to look for one since I kind of grew tired of all the take-out places with their typical menu until finally, I found this place The menu here is huge and I want to try so many of the dishes but their portions are SO big that I can only order so much. That time, I opted for Seafood and Vegetable soup and the Two-Flavor Squirrel Shaped Fish. Each of the fish is the size of my forearm and the soup bowl is the size of my head. There were only 2 of us and my friend was not such a big eater, but can't complain. I mean, never say no to more food, right? The soup is lightly flavored, which is favorable so it doesn't taste heavy. I can imagine it's a very good food to have while sick. The two flavors of the fish are sweet/spicy and savory. Personally, I think it will be better if the sweet/spicy sauce has a stronger acidity to it because it will be so much more refreshing. However, after not eating this kind of dish for a while, it does feel pretty good. I will miss this place from time to time and will definitely put it on one of my go-to lists read more

It took a while for our food to come but the place was busy, so I'm not too mad about that. Make sure you ask the server what you are ordering because there are no descriptions of the dishes. Our server couldn't explain it properly and we ended up getting something we didn't like. They had also forgotten a spicy cold noodle dish we ordered but were never billed for it either. We ordered shrimp rolls for apps, it was good and the sauce had a metallic taste to it, almost tasting canned. There were 3 mains we ordered: Spicy Lamb, Shrimp Shengdu, and the Dry Wok Shrimp. I didn't have any of the lamb, so I cannot say how that way. But the Shrimp Shengdu was disappointing. It was cooked with cucumbers and the sauce was pretty thin. Not really into cooked cucumbers and there was no explanation of the dish or what Shengdu was. The Dry Wok Shrimp was good, as it was spicy and appetizing to look at but still had cooked cucumbers in it in addition to the delicious potatoes in it. The shrimp was not peeled and left with head on, which I was not expecting. My friends peeled the shrimp for me because I'm pretty squeamish about whole shellfish. Oh dear GOD. I'm planning on driving back here from Waterford for takeout because I miss their food. This place is HANDS DOWN the best American Chinese restaurant that I've been to. Tons of free parking. Staff can be difficult understand but they are still helpful. Portions are huge making them priced very fairly. The cold Szechwan noodles were yummy. The wok chicken was delicious with the potatoes in it (tasted like cumin lamb), and the hot fried fish was tasty but must be enjoyed while hot. Skip the spicy Szechwan bamboo shoots. We went with the cold noodle appetizer and spicy salted fish. The noodles were particularly satisfying as the portion was right, sauce was tasty, and the dish was served cold (as it should be). Only got take out from here. Super authentic place! They have soup dumplings! Which is rare around this area, everyone can agree. Most of the food was great, my sister got this cold noodle dish and it didn't have much flavor. But everything else was great. I heard the Mongolian beef was pretty tasty from my cousin. The soups were delicious. Must get the dumpling in spicy soup! So yummy. Downside is that they didn't give the fried noodle crackers for the soup!!! They have those regular salt crackers you will probably eat with clam chowder. It bothered me so much, first Chinese place that didn't give the fried noodles. I usually do not like to leave a bad review, but this has to be one of the worst Chinese restaurants I have ever been to. We ordered General Tso chicken and it was all dark meat, heavily breaded with very little chicken. And the taste was just awful. I've actually been to China several times and I know there's a big difference between American Chinese food and China. This wasn't close to either one. There was a lot left over, so we boxed everything up to take home but it never made it into the house. We aren't picky eaters. We're really not. But I still can't get the taste out of my mouth. Can't believe I haven't written a review of this place yet! Hot and sour soup- delish! It tastes just like the hot and sour soup from PF Changs! Nice amount of veggies, a bit spicy, and super tangy! I would highly suggest a cup. Really really good! Chicken egg roll- on the smaller side but packed with veggies like cabbage, carrots, and bean sprouts. The sauce it comes with is superrrrrr sweet but actually pretty good. I was shocked to read all the reviews where people had issues with the egg roll but I really enjoyed it. Orange beef- one of my favorite dishes here! Beef has a perfectly crisp texture and the sauce is yummy! Not your typical "orange" entree. I was able to detect hits of garlic and ginger with a slight orangy flavor. There was orange peel and dried chilies too! General tso chichen- this was a confusing one for me. The chunks were huge so I had to cut them to make it more bite sized and it was kinda pink in the center like it could have been cooked just a tad longer. I didn't get sick or anything but just an interesting little observation. Flavor was fine, I prefer the orange beef or Szechuan lamb! Everything is ala cart here.
