Wonderful restaurant. We slid in here trying to avoid the hurricane and had a wonderful evening. Calming drone tv played in the screen, helpful cashiers and servers too! Amazing food, large portions, wonderful sauces, reasonable prices. Positive, upbeat music streamed in. I wish we had one of these where I am because I would be there all the time. Highly recommend if you are a local or if you are traveling through. I think it's a great option for groups as well b/c they have a strong varied menu. Vegetarian options as well. This was my second time going to This Tropical Grill and the first time I went there the service was wonderful and food was fabulous. On the inside of the place they were very kind and service oriented. I review the inside of this establishment and gave the a very favorable review. So yesterday I went there ordered the same thing I ordered the first time ( Cuban sandwich) but this time I went thru the drive thru and not at all the same experience. Order was correct. Sandwich was under grilled not hot thru didn't have the same amount of that delicious mustard on it as the first time. Inconsistent food. Upon time for paying my order I gave the girl a gift card that I had partial money on and told her how much was on it. She told me it was invalid. I said I had just used it the week before and it was valid, please call the manager over to help you with it. She said OK she handed me my food. I told her to please try the gift card again. She says she said OK. I'm ready for the remainder fee with your credit card so I gave her my credit card when I looked at my receipt. She had run the entire amount of the bill on my credit card. I then responded. This is the entire amount on my credit card. What happened to the gift card? It's invalid was the response I got I asked to please call the manager since she had tried to lie to me at the window. She then proceeded to ask me if if I had a problem and I said yes I do. I need to see the manager. The manager came over immediately and fix the problem, but that's an employee that lies at the window. That is exactly what the problem was the lying employee. read more

This was at the new tropical chicken grill in Greer S.C. I recommend you go to the one about 20 miles away in Greenville S.C. The food has been good every time we've gone. The last time we went we came in at about 8:50, the kitchen closes at 9:00. The worker who was working the front register was being really rude. What she should have said was "sir the inside is closed at 10 till' 9 can ya'll please go to the drive thru." instead she said in a really rude voice, "If you can order in 10 minutes I guess you can eat here." Then, we got our food and sat down and she told us she was going to start breaking down the soda machine so if we wanted refills we have to go to the drive thru. Then she came over and started squeaking chairs on the floor right behind our table. She tried everything to make us leave. We finally left like she wanted although it would have been funny to sit there for an hour. It was quiet, but there was a worked playing Christian music, and I have no problem Christian artists like Jelly Roll, my moms a pastor in fact, but when it's that hard core Christian music and your trying to have a conversation, and all you can hear is, "God my lord save my soul god save me god oh god my lord Jesus Christ have mercy jesus on me god," in the tune of Mr. Brightside it gets annoying. Especially when there's a different song playing loudly over the speaker of a restaurant that no one besides us is in. Love this location. The food is consistently fresh and delicious. The service is great too, and the staff is very friendly. However one complaint and this has been a problem for awhile. Tropical Grille, y'all please stop skimping on the sauces. It's quite ridiculous to pay these prices and then only given half a container of sauce, especially when the small cup containers themselves are half the size as they were a couple years ago. Last night I was busy installing a new oven in my home so my wife went by this location and was going to purchase several bowls for our dinner. She called me from the restaurant and told me that they added a smash burger to the menu. I had her order one for me and boy was it delicious. The double patties were cooked to perfection with a nice crust on the outside and moist on the inside. The bun was perfect and the addition of potato sticks are brilliant. Tropical Grille is a winning combination: It's delicious and cheap. Also, I need to be lost in the sauce. They will more than fulfill that. I always get the cuban chicken wrap with an order of Yuka fries. They have a half dozen or so sauces to choose from and even give you the entire bottle for you order. I always go with the Steph Curry sauce and the Jalapeno sauce. They have that chicken grilling right for you to see when you walk in. They display that thing right in front of your face. They don't try to hide it like Chipotle does. In all seriousness, I love these places. They have a couple sprinkled throughout Greenville and I really hope they put a restaurant in Columbia one of these days. I had food from here over a year ago and wasn't impressed and hadn't had anything else since. My husband bought me food from here yesterday and I don't know if they improved their menu or if I chose the wrong thing the first time, but this time, my oh my was everything delicious!! I tried the Cuban sandwich for the first time and it is sooooo good! The pork roast and ham was moist and full of flavor, and the cheese and pickles add just the right touch. This sandwich is HUGE. I could only eat half of it. I do suggest you put it in the oven for about 10-15 minutes if it gets lukewarm or cold. If you're going to eat this, you want to eat it right. So it should be eaten hot or very warm. You won't be disappointed. I also had the South of the Border Bowl, and it was full of chicken, yellow rice, cheese and other goodies. Tropical Grille (a.k.a. Tropical Chicken Grill) is surprisingly delicious. This small strip mall restaurant serves Cuban food, fresh and fast. There are three locations in/around Greenville. This one can be found in the same shopping center as the Publix on Pelham Rd. It's on the lower level of the property and actually faces Pelham Commons Blvd. Once you see the tiki patio umbrellas, you know you've arrived. This is a quick, casual, and no-frills eatery. The inside of the restaurant amounts to one big room with a bunch of tables, brightly colored walls (red, green, yellow), a TV, and an open kitchen. The space looks relatively new. Similar to Chipotle, ordering is done upfront and your order is prepared and ready for you almost instantly. A large grill sits on display behind a glass window next to the ordering counter so you can see the ingredients being cooked fresh. The restaurant serves "Tropical Chops," which amount to bowls of white or yellow rice topped with a meat and small slice of pita bread. There are also wraps and sandwiches along with salads and a limited selection of sides such as sweet plantains, seasoned veggies, and yuca fries. Meat options include chopped chicken breast and 12-hour-marinated, slow-roasted pork. There's also a nice selection of scrumptious sauces to put on the meat. Regular sized bowls cost about $7-9 each while large bowls cost about $8-10 each. I think the regular size bowl suits most individuals just fine. If you've ever had a Chipotle burrito bowl, the regular size bowl at Tropical Grille is comparable. I've tried both the Cuban Chop and the Roasted Cuban Pork Chop. Both are tasty, though I think I'm partial to the pork here. The Cuban Chop comes with chopped chicken breast (chopped as in cubed, almost) with black beans, white rice, and a slice of pita bread. The Roasted Cuban Pork Chop comes with slow-roasted shredded pork with black beans, white rice, and a slice of pita bread. You can substitute yellow rice for white rice if you desire. I recommend it. Whether you order white or yellow rice, the rice is soft and moist. The black beans are warm, hearty, and comforting. The chicken breast is indeed fresh and tender. Lightly or barely seasoned, it expectedly doesn't have much taste, but that's where the sauces come in. The sauces are great. I've tried the Mustard Curry, Garlic Cilantro, and Jalapeno Garlic sauces. I can't say I have a favorite as they are all quite good and make a significant difference in the enjoyment of the meal. In general, the sauces are light, creamy, addictive, and full of flavor. The roasted pork is fine without sauce. The meat is succulent and juicy on its own. I love it. Service is good. Orders are processed via tablets and receipts are sent electronically (signatures too). The restaurant is clean and the employees are polite and work efficiently. read more

I've been coming here for at least ten years, and I'm sorry to say the quality has gone done slowly but steadily. My last visit was extremely disappointing. The chicken was tough, and had burned, bitter parts. Not juicy like it's supposed to be. The yellow rice was flavorless compared to how it used to taste, and even the garlic cilantro sauce wasn't the way it used to be, like it was watered down. On occasion the place is too crowded to find a table but we lucked out today. Caleb ordered the Cuban Sandwich and ate all of it even though it's a sizable sandwich. So the honest truth is that I could give less of a crap about this place being paleo; I didn't even know it was until I came here to review it and saw others mentioning that. What it is, is a great little not-quite-fast-food restaurant. I've tried several dishes including the classic chop, south of the border wrap, and Cuban sandwich - everything has been delicious, and it's all even better with their special curry mustard sauce! Though it's a bit hidden (on the corner of a little strip mall type place, set back a bit from Pelham Road) and the "decor" is nonexistent (it looks like a cafeteria), the place is clean, the owner is often there making the food, and again, the food itself is great.
