Left True Foods tonight so frustrated. The server took our drinks order, brought us water. And never came back after that. She did not come off friendly. I watched her serve all of her other tables. And gave her benefit of the doubt, like maybe it's a busy night. But then I watched her go to her other tables multiple times, be friendly with others, even take other orders, even clean off empty dishes from other tables and never come back to us. After 45 minutes I reached out to another server for help. They went and got our server. When she came back out she again helped another table before us. And never apologized for her delay in service. She actually returned to our table with a very rude and smart mouthed remark. Will not be returning! read more

I really like True Food Kitchen so I do feel sad to give them a lower rating. The ambience is fresh and pleasant, and the food is quality and delicious. I hadn't been in awhile. However, this last visit, I was quite disappointed and appalled by how much shrinkflation has hit. The food portions were *significantly* smaller- to the point that I felt bad and a bit embarrassed that I picked this restaurant for my boyfriend's birthday dinner only for all our friends to be served such meager dishes. I would actually prefer if they increased their prices instead of skimping on portion quantities that excessively. I went to Open Table to make a reservation - just in case Plenty of tables open. We were seated right by the door. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable, however, got one order wrong. There were 2 seasonal pizzas and I would have been happy with either. She specifically recommended one which I said yes to, and I got the other. The flatbread was fine but nothing to rave home about. Two in our party ordered the harvest salad with very different results. The one with chicken was beautifully prepared with a great balance of protein, vegetable and kale. The second - no protein - was basically a bowl of kale with almost no other vegetables, of which the cauliflower was very undercooked. The ancient grains bowl with steak was the best of the 4 dishes, although the steak was cooked well done and a bit dry. Brussels sprouts as an appetizer were could have been cut smaller and cooked a bit more. It was quiet and so our conversation flowed nicely. Amazing patio for most days of the year here in Los Angeles. Most of the staff was super friendly. Our waitress didn't seem excited to really tell us about the menu for the food seeing as it was our first time, so we just decided to try a couple of things Honestly, it wasn't that memorable. My daughter got a possible which tasted OK just didn't look very appetizing and if I remember correctly, I got a pizza that had some kind of sausage on it seeing as there selections with meat are very limited. If you're someone who's in two more "pure" foods, and like vegetarian options than this place is definitely recommend it. If you're a carnivore like me, I would think twice. We were in the area and searched for a place to have a casual lunch restaurant. By looking at the reviews, we picked True Food Kitchen. When we arrived, loved the place. Had outdoor patio seating or indoors was available. It was 2:00 pm so a bit late for lunch. Told 20 min wait time but we decided to wait because it looked cute in the patio where we wanted to sit. After a looong wait of 40 minutes and asking them how much longer... We were seated inside with an apology for the long wait and offered a complimentary side which we appreciated. I ordered the Chinese Chicken Salad and Orange spice iced tea. It took another 20-30 min until we got our order. Iced tea was very good, so as the Salad but the usual crunchy noodles, seseme seeds and mandarin orange slices were missing and greens were soggy not crispy fresh. My son had All American Burger which tasted really good but fries were like overcooked pasta! Because you have to park on the street, we realize our time was almost up so we had to ask for a check and a to go box quickly and leave right away before finishing my meal not to get a ticket. I was a bit hesitant to go here, but, given the fact that we were really hungry at the time, and the proximity, I agreed. My daughter loved the chicken fingers and the sauce tremendously. I ordered the turkey burger and a side of macaroni and cheese. Never again. Mind you, the mac and cheese came highly recommended by the server. Both were tasteless and boring. I won't even talk about the kale salad. I was adding "everything" I could to get some flavor out of my meal. I've been to the True Food Kitchen in Palo Alto plenty of times since I work in the Stanford area, so I was super excited to see that they built a location in my hometown. Plus, my husband had never been, so we were happy to head over for lunch while visiting family. Unfortunately, it was probably the wrong choice and I wish we went somewhere else this afternoon. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ We came in around 12:30, and it was decently busy but not too hectic. The host informed us that there will be a bit of a wait, but that we could wait at the bar. No worries! I was able to grab a mojito from the sweet bartender and browse the menu while waiting for a table to open up. We waited another 10-15 minutes before being seated at a nice table outside. The next hour and a half of my life was... excruciating, honestly. The host dropped us off at the table with some menus, and that was basically it for the rest of our visit. We had the pleasure of watching the tables around us be seated after we were, had their orders taken, *finish their meals*, and leave. They looked like they had an awesome time, and I'm so happy for them, I just wish we had an even remotely similar experience. But no. Giving about 20 minutes between each interaction, I asked two separate servers and the original host that seated us to check on who our server was, to no avail. It was really frustrating. Eventually I had to ask to speak to a manager, mostly because my two hour(!) parking time limit was coming up, and there was still no server in sight. The manager Alex was very kind and understanding, and comped our meal, which we had to take to-go. It was a lovely gesture, but honestly I was still bummed because all I wanted was to show my husband one of my lunchtime usuals over a glass of wine. (By the way, the food was pretty yummy. My husband's gluten free burger was juicy, and my salmon entree was delicious as usual.) This was probably a very rare occurrence, and it was rectified in the best way that it could have been. I got the Harvest Salad with smoked Tempeh and it was so mouthwatering good! The caramelized Brussels sprouts, sweet potato, and quinoa fused together perfectly. I added smoked tempeh for an extra flavorful twist. I also got a delicious cappuccino with oat milk to warm me up at the end. Service was super friendly.
