I have been in here a few times now and the atmosphere and friendly service is a pleasant surprise. I'm usually alone and luckily get a seat and have my 2 piece fish and chips with my iced tea. I'm happy as a lark and this satisfies my fish and chip craving perfectly. Today it was a nice fall day and cold enough for a light sweater so you could almost pretend there was an ocean outside if you closed your eyes you could be on Cape Cod. The owner came out and surprised me and the other guests with a sample of their deep friend bananas OMG!!! If you know me you know I love my bananas these little morsels were delish!!!! I usually get my fried bananas at Thai restaurants with honey or coconut ice cream. These were ever so slightly dusted with powdered sugar and a little drizzle of chocolate (which I'm not a fan) so I will ask for none when I come back here again to order these tasty treats! I may have just stumbled upon the best fish and chips place in the Sacramento area. The fish was very fresh, lightly battered and did not seem heavy or oily at all. The chips (fries) were very nice, and the service was very attentive. Especially for a fish and chip joint. To top it all off, the place was clean top to bottom and they serve beer! Boom! Hey Everyone! This is an awesome place for classic Fish and Chips! First the staff is ultra friendly and look as if they really enjoy what they are doing! An important first ingredient to any establishment! Next, the place is clean! I'm a stickler for this, if an establishment gives me the ebbie jeebies when I walk in, I walk out! Now, the food! I got the three piece fish and chips. It came with three large pieces of white fish, fries (chips), two and two onion rings! The food was not greasy, so that tells me the oil was good and hot! All the food was cooked to a beautiful golden color and was hot when it came to the table. While my companion and I were eating, the waitress brought us a complimentary fried banana pieces! Perfect way to finish the meal! As I said I had the three piece fish and chips, my companion had the one piece fish and chips and we each had a beer, bill $20.00. I didn't think that was at ll bad. I always order take out for the office. The little sweet Korean lady always takes my order and is so sweet. She always sneaks in a little dessert for me! Although I shouldn't be eating it :/ But the service is great and the food isn't bad. They even provide malt vinegar for take out and always give extra sauce without charging extra. I am really torn in writing this review, I want to give a 2.5 but cannot, so 2 it is.. The people were friendly, the food was super good and they even served complementary fried banana while we waited for our food. However, we were missing one complete item, and the receipt is not itemized to where I could call and say, "hey I paid for this and didn't get it" though I am nearly certain she repeated the missing item twice. When we received our order, I asked if there was malt vinegar in the box, and she pointed to two containers, that when we got home had cocktail sauce in them, so we had no vinegar for the fish n chips. Also, the price was pretty steep for what we got. We got food for 5 people, 2 of which were kids, and there were several items that were shared and the total bill was $59.80, and we didn't order beverages. I have been to the other location on Greenback in Citrus Heights, and have never had a problem, they are about equidistant from my home, so from now on, I will stick with the Greenback location. read more

I have always enjoyed tugboat.....they fry the fish perfectly, in that the batter is light and crunchy, and the fish is hot and well cooked. The cashier here was awesome, in that she was able to take orders, bring out food, handle cash, and refill sodas tableside continuously, all with a smile on her face. My little sister compared her to the main waitress character in diner dash. As I said....always liked tugboat, but am glad I finally went to this one....where if what my first visit is indicative of how they always are, then I can expect good food with great customer service. read more

This is our go-to spot in the Sacramento area for fish-n-chips. Food is always fresh, batter just right and the oil is always fresh not greasy. Great fries. Calamari is like a steak cut into small pieces so I probably won't order that again due to the style of calamari but their traditional fish and chips are spot on and hard to pass up for something else! The shrimp is tasty too. The owner and his family...unbelievably nice and always a smile and so appreciative of your business! They always give you fried bananas at the end of your meal. And you get a few fried veggies with your fish.. I have had zucchini spear, onion ring and carrots... A little bonus! Very clean.. Cute little patio. I have been eyeing this place for months. I was soooo excited to get some yummy fish n' chips and I soooooo disappointed when it sucked. If I could give 0 stars I would here. First off, the parking lot is tiny and you have to be very lucky to get a spot as there are other businesses who share the space. The woman at the front counter was not good at her job. We had to ask for our drinks about 10 minutes after we ordered because I was sick of waiting. The calamari was gross and unlike any I had ever tasted. The fish was not that great either, which should have been the best part. My son's chicken strips and our mozzarella sticks were overcooked and burnt. GROSS! Everything is always fresh, the batter crispy and the service more than pleasant and cheery Nothing fancy here but we say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Covered outdoor dining. Don't worry, someone will bring your order out when it's ready. They have freezing cold beer etc., as well. Prices, I believe are about the same as at other fish and chip venues. Seems they usually throw in a little deep fried zucchini or some such too most of the time. We live farther away now so it's inconvenient to get out there, but well worth the trip. I've had the real thing in London, and this is every bit as good, perhaps better since here they don't throw in the soggy canned peas. I have ventured out and tried the clam chowder on a cold evening and was unfortunately disappointed. This has been the only miss that I have had here and I really almost feel bad writing it but best let fellow yelper know the fish and chips are amazing but clam chowder needs improvement. It was lacking in any real flavor and I actually got a lump of flour that didn't get properly mixed in. At least the clams themselves were not old and fishy or gritty which I appreciate. I have been going to this family-run restaurant for years and have never been disappointed. The fish and chips are my favorite, and I absolutely LOVE their tartar sauce! I have also had the shrimp, the crab cakes and the fried oysters. They have an excellent cocktail sauce for the shrimp, as well as malt vinegar always on the table. Their french fries are great. The also have cole slaw and other vegetables, and serve the fish and chips with fries and onion rings. They have chicken tenders and hot dogs for the kids that don't like seafood.
