    Shrimp Tacos (comes with 3)

I was very hesitant about a casino restaurant but after a long day of travel I didn't want to leave the hotel again. This place was surprisingly good. It's bar food but overall good! My aunt and grandmas both got shrimp tacos (3) and I got a buffalo chicken sandwich with fries. Server was attentive!

I was quite apprehensive due to negative reviews but honestly this was one of the best meals we've had in Santa Fe. The staff is absolutely delightful and was so accommodating. From burger to salad to even the fish, nothing was disappointing. Fell in love with the soup, it was so flavorful and actually packed a punch. Drinks, especially fountain drinks are definitely a miss. It's a no frills kind of atmosphere along side the casino but it was certainly pleasant due to the staff and generous food portions.

Rudest, most inattentive server to ever walk the planet. Sat at the bar and waited forever for him to grace us with his presence. Asked for a local IPA, he said he had two. I asked which one was hoppier. He said he had no idea. Asked for an ice water and was told he doesn't have glasses for water (but at least he didn't make me drink my beer out of his cupped hands). Finished our drinks and waited another 30 minutes before being asked if we wanted another. Ordered a second round and the chips and salsa. Was told they were out of salsa, so we went with the nachos. Nicely put together, but they used fake cheese sauce rather than shredded cheese which made them suck. New bartender came in while we were there. Someone asked if they could just sit at any table and he responded "what does the sign say?" and walked away. They must think being a rude ass is a BFOQ for this place! And lastly, not that this has anything to do with the shitty service, but state law does not allow you to take your beer onto the casino floor. Very odd. Very odd in deed. Retreated to a bar upstairs and found a bartender with a personality. Still a bit stuffy, but much better than this place.

So this restaurant/grill/sportsbar is located inside the Buffalo Thunder resort and casino. There are other restaurants located in the casino but one is like a small deli with pre-made sandwiches and the others were closed every time we were ready to eat something. Honestly the place was good enough where we ate there more than once. It's located in the casino so you keep trying your luck if there is a wait and they give you one of the disc's that light up and vibrate if you want to wander while you wait. It's a combination of a full horseshoe bar and a sportsbook feel with tables and booths to sit down and eat at and catch some tube or watch sports. Service was ok nothing to really brag about but it's a pretty relaxed atmosphere. We did enjoy our meals there and it was a little pricey but we felt the portions were worth it and honestly the food was pretty decent. Not really going to advise to not go here as we didn't ever have the option to try the other restaurants on/in the property but don't think you would be disappointed if you tried this place.

Would rather eat at any fast food establishment than eat at this place. Service was beyond horrible which is ok if the food is decent. The food was horrible and the salad had old rotten tomatoes. Would be nice to get great food at a casino. Instead you have to drive into Santa Fe to get decent food.

Honestly this restaurant did not hit the spot. We came after waiting for over an hour and it probably took the server another 15min to show up. It was Saturday night, but they were not busy at all. We got a couple of orders of chips and salsa for the table and they had the most stale chips I've ever tasted. The chips tasted like they were from a bag that had been open for a week, even though they were "made fresh every morning." The server was combative when we asked about getting more chips. I ordered the steak frites because they sounded delicious and it was like I got beef jerky patties covered in cheese. I also barely got any fries, and they were the highlight of the meal. While the food did get there quickly, refills were hard to come by and we were barely checked up on. They also included a tip on the bill for their "service." Definitely will door dash or go into Santa Fe for dinner next time.

Wanted to stop in a try a meal before we left, glad we did. The lady who set us was also our waitress. It didn't seem like many were working but she was very attentive to us and other tables within the establishment (thanks Jamie). Wife had the chili cheese fries. She doesn't care for thick cut fries but I enjoy them. The green chili stew was very flavorful and not too spicy for this Okie lol however the wife who is Jemez said it could've been more authentic & hotter. We also shared the ABQ turkey sandwich with fries. Absolutely loved this sandwich, had hot turkey, bacon, cheese, tomato, green chili on sourdough -- definitely recommend this and the stew.

Have you seen the movie Get Out? This is like Get Out but the tourist trap. First, we waited about 20 minutes to be seated because the hostess, who ended up being one of the managers, decided she was too good to help bus one of the SEVERAL open tables. Then she tried to seat us at a still dirty table. We asked a passing waiter to grab a manager and the other manager came and bussed the other tables and sat us. There was not a single table in the entire restaurant that did not ask for a manager while we were there. We watched as one table was served a half full Bloody Mary from the bar. Seriously? The same hostess/manager even tried to seat a family at a table where the man was still eating but had gone to the bathroom! Luckily the waitress stopped her! It took over an hour and a half to get our meal and we were given the check and thanked for dining by the manager before we were even served! We had been there that long that he thought we had already eaten! He was horrified and comped us one of the meals. We won't be back!

Santa Fe Chicken Sandwich was great!

It's average food. We ordered grilled salmon and it was tough and bland. The green chile stew was decent. The mixed vegies were not fresh.

However, I decided to go with an appetizer I've never tried, the Bang Bang Shrimp, which was dynamite! You get four very large, crispy shrimp in a sweet-and-spicy sauce, though I didn't find it spicy, if that's a concern for some. The sauce was very tasty; the shrimp had great flavor, were plump and tender, and they were indeed crispy. This went very well with the arugula under the shrimp. I'd order this again in a second. I then had two tacos à la carte: Baja Fish beer-battered cod and Carnitas. Both were very large and excellent. The pork on the Carnitas was indeed crispy as it should be, and the cod was perfectly fried and delicious. My wife had the Asian Tuna Noodle Crunch Bowl: seared tuna, lo mein noodles. The dressing was superb; the Tuna was perfectly seared raw, and all the items that came with the salad (mango, red cabbage, daikon radish sprouts, kale crunch, edamame, cilantro, peanuts, toasted sesame) made for a lovely and delicious meal. Our server, Tony, did a fantastic job of keeping us all happy. My only 'complaint' was that Boxcar doesn't serve their amazing Brussels sprouts, or at least not all the time. Not on the menu. I told Tony and the manager how much I love them and was told it may come back as a special from time to time. Man, the Boxcar Brussels sprouts are amazing! I ordered a bean and cheese burrito with both red and green chile (Xmas style). It was ok but 16 bucks for this was too expensive. We also ordered a margarita each and they were also just ok and too expensive at 13 bucks each. We were warmly greeted and we're happy. It was on the quiet side since they weren't busy yet. By the time we left, it was busy! We really enjoyed our server, Paris. He was warm and seemed to take a general interest in us. I shared my concerns with him that my pallet doesn't tolerate much spicy. He at all. He assured me there would be no problem in accommodating that. He started us off with a complementary prickly pear & lemonade drink which we loved! He also provided a complementary appetizer which was very unique and made out of avocado and mascarpone and some other items I don't remember. Why I didn't love it, I did enjoy hasting something so unique and different. We started with the best cornbread I've ever had that shaped like a cob of corn with three different kinds of butters. The cornbread is $12 and worth it! Next came the Caesar salad wrapped in some kind of egg roll wrapper and topped with an anchovy mixture. We split it so we each got two rolls which was plenty. We very much enjoyed the flavors in the salad. Don ordered the Wagyu short rib with polenta. While we don't love polenta, this was tasty and complemented the beef nicely. Don said this was the best short rib he ever had. I wish I had a picture of how they presented it. When they took the lid off, there was a lovely steam cloud and it smelled wonderful. I had scallops with each one placed beautifully on top of of really interesting wild rice and finished with toasted coconut. The pineapple salsa and the Hoja Santa Fe Oil were placed in small rounds in the middle of the dish because they had some kick to them. What was especially impressive, is the gentleman who brought out my meal leaned over and said that the Chef wanted to let me know that the two items in the small dishes had heat to them, but I was encouraged to give them a try for the full flavor. Impressive! I was able to enjoy the pineapple salsa, but the oil was a little too spicy for me, but I'm glad I tried it.
