Great food for an even greater price. Crazy that places like this still exist in the city. The karaage was admittedly not that great, but had a really homey taste. The udon, however, really surprised me. The tempura was hot and crispy, and the tennose bukkake udon had so many toppings. The bonito flakes were large shavings and tasted much better than what you can buy in the grocery store. I will be back again soon!

I always come here for a reliable meal! I've been coming here with my friend since high school (back when it used to be Udon West). I love the set options on the menu and everything is decently priced (although prices have gone up in the past few years). I stopped by more recently for my usual (curry set) and it's just as I remember it to be: warm and comforting. The only thing I feel like has changed over the years is the udon broth, nowadays it's a tad bit too salty for my liking. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The service is pretty good, you get your food shortly after ordering and it's a great solo dining place with the bar seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I got the Pork Cutlet set, and after waiting 35+ minutes in a waitlist at a nearby soba spot and being told they'll prioritize larger parties for seating after I followed up, I was relieved to find a spot that could seat me as a single diner. My food was ready fairly shortly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This spot wasn't too loud, so it was great for a lowkey night.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The pork cutlet was crispy with cabbage drizzled in flavorful sauce. The rice wasn't too soggy and paired perfectly with the cutlet. The udon noodles and soup tasted comforting and familiar. This spot is cash-only, but there was conveniently an ATM right outside.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Casual and cozy Japanese restaurant with great prices.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They are cash only. The niku udon I had was delicious, the portion was huge! I loved the flavorful soup. The combo meals are also a great price, the curry set was great. The service is fast.

Fourth time here. This has been my partner's favorite place and I will say that they are consistent. There's new staff, who are very friendly. The tempura is good and the fatty tuna over rice is a safe option.

We were in the area and wanted something quick and warm. Arrived 5 mins after opening time and were seated immediately, and thought we were really lucky! Too bad we ran out of luck after. We ordered udon sets and rice bowls. The udon was fine, just the usual udon you get in Japanese restaurants. The tempura however was the worst I've ever had in NYC. The batter was thick and the veggies inside were soggy and drenched in batter. Couldn't eat them... And the rice was SO bad, two of us couldn't eat the rice at all. We didn't send the rice back only because we ordered the sets and the udon was enough carbs for us. The rice was cooked horribly wrong - it was so hard and dry, almost like it's not cooked through. My guess is.. not enough water? But that's impossible in a rice cooker, and I've never had rice so bad before. We just finished the udon that came with the set and left all the rice there. I guess this place is cheap and cheerful and great for students, but I definitely wouldn't come back.

this place blew up on tiktok and it is so well deserved! we only waited about 20 minutes for our party of 4 to be sat at the counter. the food was fast and fresh. the broth was so incredibly flavorful, everything was delicious

Me and my friends were craving a comforting meal as it was raining today. We were in the area and found this place. It is cash only which is stated in the front and on the menu. It looked like most of the seats were at the bar where you get to see all the magic happen. The food is affordable and I loved that the udon broth was not super sweet like other udon soups I've had. Pretty good portion for the price too. Lunch time seemed like it got busy pretty quickly so expect a wait during peak times.

Everything here hits. It is a no frills experience. Restaurant recently went viral due to recteamnyc's post so expect to wait a little. We waited around 20 min at 6pm on a Saturday night so not too bad. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Seating area is small but that's why it's a hole in the wall and is reflective of an authentic Japanese experience as if you were in Tokyo.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Server is very friendly and you can tell she loves her job and has been running the place for years. Udon broth had a deep flavor and the noodles were solid. This is a homey nostalgic dish. Pork katsu curry was delicious - perfect curry flavor and crispiness of the pork. Negitoro was larger than expected (even though I know I was getting the large). Wasabi provides a necessary kick. Lots of extra rice but just drop it in the udon soup when you have no more noodles. Cash only. Cheap prices for NYC. Will be coming back

    Kaki-Age Udon
    Jiamae W.

CASH ONLY. You're getting what you pay for. A decent meal for a decent price. I got the kakiage udon and had no complaints. The udon was from a frozen block so my expectations were not high, but they cooked it with the right amount of chew, the soup base was good, and kakiage was cripsy. The bowl itself was only $12 and I was full by the end. If I lived closer, I would easily stop by and grab a cheap bite :)

THIS PLACE IS CASH ONLY WITH A $10 MINIMUM PER PERSON. No frills udon shop serving some other classic Japanese fare on st marks. Ordered the takoyaki, curry udon, niku udon, and ebi-ten on the side. Total after tax and tip was a little under $50 which by NYC standards I'd say is very fairly priced. Everything was solid, but not mind blowing. Still think it's a great casual spot to go if you're looking for some reasonably priced food. I'd definitely come back. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Space is pretty small. Mostly counter seating with a few tables in the back.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Would not recommend for a big group. 2 is ideal. 4 would be max imo.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service can be a little slow since it's only like 2 people working, but they get food out at a pretty reasonable clip and keep things moving. Would recommend!

3.5 We are not into Udon but my family was ok with the other items on the menu. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Small place - bar style seating upon entering, with a view of the kitchen which looked very clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]3-4 small tables in the rear. Looks updated.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service is very attentive. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Clean restroom available.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] No fuss type of food. Negi toro rice bowl was simple, not much toppings, better with some soy sauce and wasabi. Hamburg can be in a combo but got it as an appetizer; patty's small but tasty. Takoyaki was good, creamy center. Squid tempura in rice bowl was a bit soggy though I liked the flavor. A good place for quick, cheap eats.

I missed this place so much, I know they were closed for a while and reopened and I visited after years of not coming back. I ordered their Karaage set and thankfully everything still hit the spot. The Karaage is so crispy outside and tastes soo good with squeezed lemon juice on top and the mayo it comes with. Their udon noodles are soft and chewy and I love how this set comes with rice too! This place is CASH ONLY so be prepared to bring cash!

They are fairly strict with their dining time period as it is busy. Be sure to book a reservation. Their menu is fairly large with plenty of appetizers as well as hot and cold udon options (note: this is a udon spot, not ramen). I got their kanimaze (cold) and their tantan (hot) and both were delicious. The kanimaze was refreshing and full of flavor. And the tantan was rich, comforting, and warm. Their shrimp tempura and agedashi were also great. Lightly fried and not too greasy. Would love to come back to try their other options.

It was a pleasant surprise to see that they expanded into the adjacent storefront. Now there's 4-5 booths and a bar table. The annex matches the interior design of their Soho and Midtown location and feels clean and spacious. Service was a bit slow from the hostess to the server. We ordered: small chicken tatsuta-age, niku udon, kamonan udon, assorted mushroom udon, green tea tiramisu, souffle fruit roll, soba pudding. Appreciate how big the chunks of meat are used for fried chicken. The exterior was a bit overfried but the interior stayed Broth and udon aligns with their Soho location which makes me more willing to come to this location moving forward. The assorted mushroom is seasonal. It's a nice lighter cleaner option but at the same time the mushrooms don't add much flavor. Kamonan is the duck which I chose because duck is a less common meat option around. I felt that the duck was a bit tough and bland yet also added too much oil into the clean broth (relatively to me). Niku is an OG but I haven't had it in a while. This time I was surprised how the marinate is light resulting in stronger meat flavor. I wish it would be more tender but it's alright. Desserts were more disappointing to me. I used to go to Patisserie Fouet frequently before they shut down the Union Square location. Green tea tiramisu had strong matcha soaks but I found the overall dessert to be a bit bland. The soaked sponge was a bit too wet too. Souffle fruit roll was huge, better to share with others especially after already eating savory food beforehand. I think it's intentional for the cake to be so dense. It came out really smooth but way too dense to feel like a dessert. I think I would eat this as breakfast instead. The raspberry sauce's tartness and punchiness is much needed otherwise I don't know if I can finish it. Soba pudding is my usual favorite and it stands up to the test of time. Still super smooth and with wheaty depth.

The katsu was very, very moist on the inside, with a crispy batter that was so light it was almost flavorless. I honestly couldn't really tell the difference between the tenderloin and pork loin. Overall the dish had a very light flavor and I added quite a bit of sauce and wasabi. Some of the less memorable dishes were the eggplant agebitashi and truffle rice. The eggplant agebitashi tasted like a cross between an eggplant parm and a bolognese. The truffle rice had a very strong truffle flavor that ended up overpowering everything else in the dish. I thought the slices of raw button mushrooms were a little strange. I really enjoyed the sabazushi. The pieces of mackerel were thick and carried a lot of that characteristic mackerel oily flavor, but the oiliness was cut by enough vinegar to balance everything out. The niku udon was also a surprise hit. The noodles were wide, flat, super slurpy, and the broth carried a deep umami flavor. Overall, I had a pretty solid experience here.

Promptly brought a wet towelette for our hands and water. Service overall was excellent, from start to finish. Ended up ordering the following: - Bottle of strawberry nigori sake (could have gotten one per person but we were already hitting a bar afterwards) - Yakitori combo appetizer (two skewers of each of the following: chicken+scallion, chicken meatball, and scallops): all of the skewers were delicious. I could have easily eaten three orders by myself. Succulent, juicy scallops, perfectly cooked chicken and scallions, and the chicken meatballs were perfectly moist and delicious. - Shrimp tempura appetizer: I love for shrimp so this one was all for me. Excellent tempura batter and nice-sized shrimp. - Trico roll: shared by the three others in my party and they all said they'd get it again. - Beef Yakiniku Don: probably my favorite. My GF got this and shared some with me. Amazing flavor and perfectly cooked. After a few bites I decided I would get this next time I come back for lunch. 7/5. - Pork Belly Nabe: my friend said it was delicious but I can't give it a rating myself. - Yakitori Don: my other friend got this and it looked as good as the chicken skewers we had as an appetizer. Again, can't give it a rating based on taste, but on looks a 5/5. - Yaki Udon: I got this. I was originally going to get sukiyaki but since two people had to order and no one else did, I ended up ordering this (my alternate was the Beef Yakiniku Don but my GF had already ordered so I got a different dish). Only complaint was that it could have had a little bit more beef but overall, perfectly sheet udon noodles, sauce, and beef. Would still get it again. 4.5/5. $180 for all (pre-tip). Well worth the price. Next time I return it'll be for sukiyaki, though, and I'll make sure whoever I go with is going to get it, too. 5/5, will be back.

Even before the food arrives, the restaurant leaves a strong impression with its stunning Japanese-inspired interior. The space is beautifully designed, blending warmth and elegance in a way that feels both inviting and refined. From the soft lighting to the natural wood accents and thoughtfully arranged decor, everything about the atmosphere feels intentional. It captures the intimate charm of a traditional izakaya while still feeling modern and stylish, making it a wonderful setting for anything from a casual dinner to a more special night out. The food more than lived up to the beauty of the space. One of the first highlights was the salmon onigiri, a dish that proved how satisfying simplicity can be when it is done well. The rice was soft, fresh, and perfectly formed, holding together without feeling too compact, while the salmon added a savory richness that made each bite feel comforting and flavorful. It was balanced, delicate, and deeply satisfying in a way that made it memorable despite its simplicity. The seared salmon salad was another standout. The salmon itself was beautifully prepared, with a lightly seared exterior that gave it a subtle crispness, while the inside remained tender, buttery, and smooth. That contrast in texture made the dish especially enjoyable. Paired with the freshness of the salad, it felt light and refreshing, yet still substantial enough to feel like more than just a side dish. It was a dish that managed to feel both clean and indulgent at the same time. The grilled squid was particularly impressive and easily one of the most memorable items of the meal. Squid can often be difficult to get right, as it can become rubbery or overly chewy if even slightly overcooked, but that was absolutely not the case here. The texture was spectacular--tender, delicate, and pleasantly springy without any toughness. Each bite had a light smokiness from the grill that added depth, while the squid itself retained its natural sweetness. It was expertly prepared and showcased a level of precision that really stood out. For the main courses, both the Tonkatsu Ramen and the Black Pepper Ramen delivered distinct experiences, each with its own appeal. The Tonkatsu Ramen was deeply comforting and satisfying, with a broth that had a rich, velvety texture and a full-bodied depth that coated the palate beautifully. It felt smooth, hearty, and luxurious without being too heavy. The noodles had an ideal texture as well--firm enough to provide a satisfying bite, yet soft enough to soak up the broth and integrate perfectly into the dish. Altogether, it was a bowl that felt warming, balanced, and incredibly comforting. The Black Pepper Ramen, on the other hand, brought a bolder and more assertive flavor profile. The broth had a smooth, glossy texture, and the noodles again had a pleasing chew that gave the dish structure and substance. The black pepper added an unmistakable warmth and aromatic intensity that made the ramen stand out immediately. It was flavorful and memorable, though the pepper was slightly overwhelming at times. A bit less black pepper would have allowed the other flavors in the broth to come through more clearly and created a more balanced bowl. Even so, the ramen was still enjoyable, especially for those who appreciate strong, pepper-forward flavors. Overall, Izakaya Fuku is a restaurant that succeeds on every level. The stunning Japanese interior creates an atmosphere that feels both immersive and elegant, while the food reflects a real attention to detail in both flavor and texture. From the comforting salmon onigiri, to the fresh and beautifully prepared seared salmon salad, to the expertly grilled squid with its exceptional texture, and finally the rich and satisfying ramen dishes, every part of the meal felt carefully executed. It is a place that offers not just excellent food, but a complete dining experience, and it is well worth visiting for anyone looking for standout Japanese cuisine in New York.

Save room for dessert for the huge shaved ice in all sorts of flavors. We had to wait for our whole party to arrive before we were seated. After that, the service was really fast and helpful. It's not a huge place, they have a mix of small tables, one or two larger tables, some booths and counter seating.

Is it Japan? No, you're in NYC. But is it good enough? Absolutely. Just expect to pay NYC prices…read more My biggest recommendation: stick to the classic ramen. I usually order spicy ramen at most ramen spots, so that's what I went with my first time here. Big mistake. The spicy ramen really takes away from the depth of flavor. If you actually want to appreciate the broth, the classic ramen is the way to go. You can always add spicy oil yourself. A few things could definitely be improved. For an upscale ramen spot in the heart of NYC, I was surprised the tap water was straight-up lukewarm. Nobody wants lukewarm water after eating a piping-hot bowl of ramen. I'd also avoid the bar seating if you can. The seats aren't very comfortable, especially if your back tends to get tight from sitting hunched over. Another small but surprisingly annoying issue is the front door, it doesn't have a slow-close mechanism, so it's constantly slamming shut. Depending on where you're sitting, it can get pretty loud and distracting while you're trying to eat. On the positive side, the service was great. The staff was attentive, and the food came out incredibly quickly after ordering, which I really appreciated. The ambiance definitely fits the upscale NYC ramen vibe without feeling overly fancy. You don't need to dress up, casual clothes are completely fine. I'll definitely be back, classic ramen next time, no question.
