The veggies were crisp and fresh with homemade dressing and the chicken was cooked to perfection. That with a glass of wine ended a perfect day at the beach. I have been playing volleyball by this place every Sunday for years, so my volleyball friends and I eat here regularly. The owner Mike and his family run it, but it's obviously not what his kids want to do in life, they have never been rude or anything Mike is an honest man, he is not always a happy camper he's going to have days when he's tired and tell you- "Maaan I'm so tired today blah blah" but we respect him and we honestly don't care if they aren't happy campers eeevery single day. They are just honest people who don't pretend to be all chipper for the customers if they aren't. I love that honesty. The food I think is always super fresh, they prepare everything with care, they don't just slap stuff together, I love the gyros (Athenian). Please be warned that the service can be slow, so don't go there if you're in a huge hurry. Go when you have time to enjoy the patio, this place is a place to hang out with friends and chill. I'm like a sloth, I eat slow, I chew my food forever, we just love it here. It's not for impatient busy people and that's not a horrible thing in my mind. The servers are Mike's kids and like him, they don't kiss axx or be all fake to please you, and they DO work hard, they DO move fast and are not lazy, it's not like they aren't trying to get your food out as fast as they can! Any time we were in there (and we are there LOT) and they're busy they tell us it may take a while to get our food today because XYZ and kindly explain so we are warned. And they are polite to us, because we are nice about it, we understand and we tell them to go take care of the other tables we aren't in a rush. And they appreciate that and we have a very good relationship in that way. We absolutely support our local mom and pop restaurants! We sometimes go to the chain places like Habit Burger or whatever but you aren't going to get that relationship with these franchise restaurants and to me, I'd rather wait a few minutes and chat with my friends than get food robotically and just go somewhere to fill an empty stomach. I know being a restaurant owner is hard and I'm so grateful they were able to survive through Covid because a lot of the restaurants couldn't! I hope if you go and they're swamped you will have the heart and patience to play with your kids or chat with friends and stay calm, chill. If not like I said, don't set yours up for disappointment. The food is great, the photos are all accurate, this is away from the Hermosa Beach pier so it's more locals and very quiet. Price for being on Hermosa Ave is not bad, people complain about prices, this is prime beach property and NOT a chain restaurant so don't expect chain restaurant prices. For what you get at this location is fair and if you were the owner you wouldn't take any less, so don't forget where this is. read more

Fresh food. Good quantity. Will NEVER be coming back to this place. I live across the street from this restaurant and have been a regular customer. I have never seen Worse, slower, ruder service: consistently. The owner can handle about 1-2 customers at a time without stress, otherwise, he is overwhelmed. Every single time I've been here, the service has been painfully slow and incompetent. A normal meal can drag out for two hours, because it takes them sooooooooooo long to prepare the food and get it out to you, and if you have hungry kids, forget it. Today I ordered food one hour in advance for pickup: two gyros to go, for a lunch date. When I got there, the food was not ready to go and they could not give me a time by which to expect it. They were extremely rude and dismissive, rather than apologizing, they made excuses and were hostile. The owner told me: 'we can't tell you when it will be ready. We are busy. If you are in a rush, get out of here and go somewhere else.' They are a mom and pop owned shop, so the waitresses and waiters are also family. They usually have few customers and if they have more than 2 or 3 at a time, they are completely overwhelmed. The food is good. The service & meal prep time is so ridiculously slow, inept and inappropriate that I will never be coming back here again. If they have more than 2 customers, be prepared to waste half of your day here and be treated by people who have a chip on their shoulder and can't handle abundance. Found this place a few months as I was craving eggs benedict. Since then, ordered 3x times for pick up. A woman usually answers and puts our orders together. TODAY a RUDE man answers and (1) says he has no eggs benedict; (2) when I try to order country sausage with eggs, he remarks in disgust that I am looking at a really OLD menu; and when I shared the only menus are on Yelp as they have no website, he told me to call back because he is "really busy and hangs up. WOW!! Now, that was rude. Tried to continue supporting a local business but not when someone who represents it is just PLAIN RUDE! Hope they fix this. read more

This is a great family owned restaurant. The food is super fresh and cooked perfectly every time. We go here often and they never disappoint. Just be aware it's only the owner and sometimes his wife working or kids so if they're busy expect a wait....but it's worth it. This is one of our favorite spots! The portions are also very generous. TERRIBLE service, RUDE, bad attitude, inconsistent. All words that come to mind when I think of this restaurant. I live right up the street and for some unknown reason I've given this place some business in the past few months since its so convenient. Finally the other night I had the last straw....Please read this:: I called ahead to ask if they had BYOB. I was told yes. So my friend and I brought a bottle of wine around 8pm, 15 minutes after I made the call and had a seat. No one came out to greet us for about 15 minutes (they 100% knew we were there) so my friend and I just chatted. Finally the guy with glasses (who is always a little rude) came out and told us without even saying hello that all the dinner menu items were out for the night as if he was trying to discourage us to order. He also told us he called the "owners" (who I knew was the lady in the back) and they said we cannot do BOYB so we could not have the wine we brought. Ok. Fine. We decided despite his rude attitude to make the best of it and order appetizers and whatever wine they had. He told us they only had one wine bottle left (haha yea right) and we said we will have that then. A few minutes later the owner (women with the scraggly hair) came out from the back and told us in the rudest way that we needed to order asap because they were closing soon. At this point I was seeing red and told her I would leave....she replied with a condescending voice..."THANK YOU" as if we were really inconveniencing her by giving her business. Everywhere online says they close at 9:30pm. Just because they weren't getting any other business we weren't important enough. I WILL NEVER GO HERE AGAIN. I was born and raised in the Southbay and keep telling everyone i know about how awful this place is. I cant wait for it to go out of business. Charming cafe at the corner of Hermosa Ave and 2nd Ave, only few steps from the beach serving mix of Greek food, breakfasts, and American favorites like burgers and sandwiches. It is a family run and operated business so the service can be a little challenging at times since they are juggling too many things but I still like the chill vibe this place offer. My review is strictly based on Breakfast menu since I never tried anything else here. I order Omelet each and every time and it has been consistently good and portions are large. My two favorites are Spinach and mushroom omelet (No cheese) as well as Mediterranean omelet comes with Feta, tomatoes and spinach. Omelettes are served with Hash browns and fruits and home made bread. I wouldn't bother visiting Uncle Stavros unless you really can't make it somewhere else. It is a small restaurant, so the wait on a Saturday morning is standard. The bacon is pretty high quality which was nice. Their homemade bread is warm and tasty. The pancakes are horrible. They didn' taste fresh and didn't have much of a taste at all. My wife ordered a spinach and onion omelet and they just stuff spinach and onions into a folded egg. They didn't mix anything into the eggs. It seemed very odd. Saturday morning and no ideas of where to go and came across Uncle Stavros on my way to Redondo pier. It's in a great location where the ocean breeze cones right into the place due to the ocean being 100 yards away. The soothing reggae music was a nice touch as I felt like I was on vacation for a local. Now onto the food, got myself the eggs Benedict, my favorite morning breakfast. My girlfriend got the Denver omelette, looks good. Okay, my food gets a score of 5 out of 5, it was flipping great. The omelet was also top notch. I give this place a 3.5 As other reviewers have mentioned, the service here is slow and staff isn't that nice. However, the food is pretty good and I like that they give you a lot of fresh fruit. I usually order an omelette with egg whites topped with tomatoes, spinach, mushrooms, and feta cheese. The feta is the best part of the omelette. Unfortunately, they do not actually put the vegetables inside the omelette and just merely throw it on top. This isn't a large enough issue to keep me from coming but it's not ideal. The parking is pretty difficult since it's on the beach and there's only meter parking. If you don't come on a nice day then you might get lucky with a parking spot nearby. read more

I like coming here for a quick brunch when I'm around the corner playing beach volleyball and didn't want to trek down to the pier. The service is slow, but it's a family business and the lady is often the only server working (who is also always very friendly). I've had their gyro omelette, and it was huge, and very tasty, but just a bit greasy. The homemade bread is sooooo good, we always get extras. I had the Greek yogurt with honey also, and that has to be my favorite "light" breakfast. It came in two giant scoops in an ice cream glass bowl, and then you mix in the honey and granola and fruit also came with it. I really enjoyed this family owned cafe! We went at 12pm on Sunday and there was no wait at all, the service was quick and the food was sooo fresh and delicious! I had the chicken gyro and my kids had the French toast and fruit, I ate both and was very pleased. The French toast is the kind that is almost bread pudding like in the middle but still somehow light and fluffy I would definitely recommend if you are in the mood for Greek or delicious breakfast. read more

Food was decent but definitely don't recommend coming to this establishment if you have small kids. I was with a party of 6 including two 2 yr olds. It was relatively early- around 10am and we were on the small patio outside. There was no one else on the patio- just us- 6 other empty tables. The kids were very well-behaved the whole time until they asked to get out of their high chairs for just a few minutes. They simply went and sat on two chairs at a different table (again no one else was on the patio with us). The restaurant was not busy and had someone walked in the patio- there is absolutely no way we would just let our kids be not by our side. Then this older lady (maybe the owner- not sure) came out and yelled at us VERY rudely saying "this isn't a playground, this is not acceptable, someone needs to supervise these children" and walked away in a huff not saying another word. If she would have just asked nicely if our kids would not be at a different table, or not be walking around a little bit, that would have been completely understandable- I get it, it's a restaurant. But they were behaving well and there was no one else around us. I'm sure if there are parents reading this, you get it- it's hard to find child friendly establishments- and generally the South-bay is very good with accommodating children- or at least just a little understanding when it comes to parents trying to eat a quick meal.
