Honestly, the tarts are good but nothing out of the ordinary, just like regular cheesecake but smaller so I would just get the special Japanese style cheese cake. The cake jiggles LOL and is super fluffy, I've never tried anything like this before. The taste is very mild with a small hint of sweetness. The cheesecake is so light and airy just like a sponge cake. Customer service was ok, the ladies in front of me ordered the same thing, paid then realized they wanted to take advantage of a promotion of some sort, maybe a gift card but they weren't able to use the same credit card? They only had one, so they walked out without getting what they wanted, I thought that was a bit odd. I was so excited to find an Uncle Tetsu with a black sesame cheesecake! This chain is definitely very underrated and the price for a cheesecake is wonderful. I've tried a couple other flavors from another chain and the flavors are true to their description and not too sweet. Only downside is that it's a little questionable how fresh the cheesecakes are. The cheesecake is really a cross between a chiffon and a cheesecake, with a higher ratio of flour to cream cheese, resulting in a lighter and fluffier texture than traditional cheesecake. The size of the cheesecake is towards the smallish side, at about 6 inches in diameter. You can taste the slight sweetness and tanginess of the cream cheese, but it's not as pronounced as you'd taste it in a New York style cheesecake. Mom bought several sample sizes for us to try. Of the cheesecakes, I felt that only the s'mores and the pandan had truly distinct flavors. That is not to detract from the other flavors-- do not hear me saying they are not good, because that is not what I am saying! I come here often, especially when I have to bring a treat to a gathering or even a dessert to bring home. My favorite flavors so far are Ube and Oreo cheesecake . The texture is so moist and melts in your mouth . I also bought a strawberry , matcha and ube tart . I really enjoyed the strawberry. The cream filling was delicious. My family also enjoyed the matcha and ube tarts. I'm really curious about the burnt basque flavors. I will have to visit again soon. We got the 5 for $10 muffin-sized cheesecake in assorted flavors which I will rank in my preference, Ube, Coffee, Pandan, Oreo, and Matcha. Omg. Wow. I've had uncle tersu before. The Arcadia/Santa Anita location. I wasn't impressed. But this time I came for the pandan coconut cake. I got a chance to try it at a yelp event. I had to have it. This location isn't too far from home. So I stopped by to get one and shared it with my kids. They loved it too! Service here is cool. It's a fast process. Pick a cake, pay, you leave. I do think it's a bit expensive. $12 for a cake. Yes it's good, but I won't by them frequently. It comes in a cute bag and box. Which I think are unnecessary. It ads to the presentation. But it doesn't affect the taste lol Anyway, great cake. Please don't discontinue this flavor. The other flavor (the original) is the reason I never wanted to come back lol I also don't like that these cakes aren't possibly fresh. They make them once a day. From what I was told. The first time I tried Uncle Tetsu was in Daly City (bay area). I love Japanese cheesecake texture, soft and fluffy (not overly sweet). Not all the locations have the same flavors. Location: I'm glad they opened one in HH , however, there is another location at the Santa Anita Mall in Arcadia. The HH location is located in a plaza (Azusa & Colima) next to 85 degrees & Delicious Food Corner. There are plenty of parkings. There are samples on the cashier counter. The cheesecake is $12 each and the burnt basque cake is $22. They also have seasonal which was PANDAN COCONUT. I've tried Ube, Oreo, original. Oreo was pretty good, it has an Oreo cookie at the top as well. I would go back and try the Coffee and Matcha flavor. This is CREDIT CARD only which is a plus. read more

I've been to the Torrance Uncle Tetsu and the cheesecake from this location is exactly the same. My favorite is the Coffee flavor and Oreo is my second favorite. If I had to choose a third, it would be the Original. The cheesecake is fluffy, jiggly, moist, and lightly sweet. This is perfect to go with hot tea and can be enjoyed cold from the fridge or warm from the microwave. Prices have been going up. After my visit at The Marketplace in Irvine, I drove to Hacienda Heights to pick up dinner from Delicious Food Corner (DFC). Guess who I saw a couple doors down from DFC... Uncle Tetsu! In the past, I've only bought the original cheesecake from Uncle Tetsu at The Shop at Santa Anita. This is my first store purchase that's not from a mall. I was the only customer in the store at the time. It was a very short visit. Store is very cute and bright. Love the yellow and red colors. The lady who took my order appeared pleasant, but not too smiley though. Transaction was very quick. I paid and got my cheesecake right away. Price has gone up... it used to be $10+ per cheesecake, but now it's $13.00 each. Oh well, inflation is not our friend or is it? LOL. I even got a taste tester of their pandan flavor... texture was too mushy... they need to do some more R&D on it. As for the taste of the original cheesecake, it was very dense compared to the ones I've had in the past. They may want to get some tips from the other store for a lighter and fluffier cheesecake. I heard about Uncle Tetsu cheesecake several years ago, but the high demand and long wait back then made me not want to try it. Since then, several other locations have opened up, making it more accessible to everyone. There still isn't a location that's conveniently located from my house, but I happened to be in the area during the week, so decided to give it a try. If you never had Japanese cheesecake before, don't expect anything like the traditional version. These are super soft and spongy, like castella and sponge cake, with a mild cream cheese flavor. I recently learned how to make these at home so I know the amount of work that goes into making these, despite having less ingredients than a traditional one. It's basically cream cheese, butter, sugar, milk, eggs, and little bit of flour, but whipping up the egg whites to a perfect meringue takes some practice. This place offers seven regular flavors (original, ube, Oreo, coffee, chocolate, strawberry, matcha), and one seasonal flavor (currently it's black sesame). It also has Burnt Basque cheesecake in original and Oreo flavor. This one tastes more like a traditional cheesecake but has a burnt layer on the outside instead of a graham cracker crust. I didn't really care for this one because it was too rich and bitter tasting. The burnt outside layer is suppose to give more of a caramelized flavor like on creme brûlée, but thought it was just bitter without adding much of a texture. I personally would just stick with the regular spongy cheesecakes. I only tried the Oreo one so far, but it was quite good. Flavor is rather mild, but I thought it still tasted better than the burnt one. Seems like this place can run out of certain flavors, but they had every single flavor in stock when I came by on a Tuesday (about an hour before closing). They haven't officially announced the new location yet so come before the whole world knows! It's located directly next door to 85 Bakery on the corner of Azusa/Colima by the Daiso. Currently almost no lines or wait to order even on the weekends! They only accept card here so no cash allowed too! The menu is exactly the same as all other locations however note this location is $0.50 more then the Arcadia location! They are $11.30 at this location vs $10.80 at Arcadia. Yeah its like your gas money! They also currently don't have any of the hokkaido tarts at this location so only the cheesecake menu as of the writing of this review. Im sure they will slowly add new items eventually. The original cheesecake is exactly the same as every other location. Yeah still no raisins on the bottom like originally in Japan. But still nice warm jiggly fluffy cheesecake! Just make sure to cover of finish it asap or it does get dry out and get hard! It goes perfectly with some hot tea or coffee. Definitely will be back again for my Cheesecake fixes! Watch for the seasonal limited edition items too that change often! My favorites are still the original and matcha though. read more

Always been a fan of Uncle Tetsu cheesecake since the Arcadia store opened. I am so excited that there is now Uncle Tetsu in Rowland Heights. This is the special type of Japanese Cheesecake which is totally different from the typical cheesecake that we have known. The cheesecake texture is FLUFFY like a sponge. It is not as sweet as the ordinary cheesecake, but still with enough sweetness to satisfy your sweet tooth. There are many more flavors besides the original one available. I have only tried the Ube one and it is delicious as well. I can't wait to go back again to try more flavors. read more

FINALLY an Uncle Tetsu nearby where I don't have to drive all the way to Westfield Santa Anita. There's no announcement on social media/it hasn't been fisted by the huge crowds yet (like how the Uncle Tetsu at the mall was before), so it's one of those things where you'd only know about it if you are in the area or heard of it from word of mouth. TRULY AN XMAS MIRACLE. I came here on Christmas Eve and waited less than 5 minutes even with a line of people outside of the shop. Thank you for not extremely letting people know about their opening yet (though I feel like this would not last long). This is unheard of since I've waited 40-ish minutes in the past for cheesecakes at the mall location on Christmas Eve before. Aside from the basque cheesecakes, each one was $11.30 and they have promotional freebies if you purchase gift cards ! We got the: 1) Ube: -Nice and sweet with a subtle ube flavor, but very bright purple and pretty ! 2) Peppermint Chocolate: -It's a limited Christmas flavor that WAS NOT on their menu. I only found out about these when I tried to order a matcha (they were out), and then tried to order a chocolate one (also out), but when the cashier let me know that they had this, I jumped on it. LOVE me some seasonal flavors. -I'll be honest...it's not the prettiest cake cuz the peppermint on the top leaves some very holiday colored pock marks (red and green), BUT the peppermint flavor is only at the top of the cheesecake. -Very subtle minty flavor and mostly chocolate flavor, I did enjoy this. Holy moly their cheesecake is so yummy! I got ube, matcha, and original. The guy said ube is most popular then it's original. It's so moist, soft, and denser than a sponge cake. It doesn't dry out after a few days. Ube is our favorite. The matcha is really strong in flavor but it was still wet not moist and didn't slice so well. We waited 10 mins for it to be out of the oven and then branded with the logo and then prepared to box. Without letting it cool, I think it ruined the texture. Had to try the original just to know how it's supposed to taste and it's so fluffy! They have a bunch of flavors and a seasonal flavor. This time it's black sesame and it wasn't ready until another 30 minutes so we skipped it. All the cakes are served as whole for $11.30. You can't get them in slices to try the flavors. What you want may not be ready so it's best to call in. It's pretty to cool to watch them behind the class from mixing the batter to the pans to the oven and how they box it. read more

Very impatient service. Today 4:52pm our family went there and bought two cakes and a pack of cookies. Before leaving, we saw there were mini samples, so I took two for the kids. Unfortunately, the toothpick couldn't support the Japanese cheesecake at all. As soon as we picked it up, it fell straight to the floor. (Of course I picked them up and cleaned them) But when my kids wanted to get one more sample, the server's face changed immediately. Only the "insider" people or the ones passing by would know they're open so there wasn't a lot of people waiting to get some cheesecake. My coworker and I were in & out within a few minutes.
