I am from out of state and I will tell you this is such a wonderful find. I was not the biggest fan of the quiche but the banana foster French toast and the huevos rancheros were incredible. It's also BYOB so we were able to bring a bottle of champagne and have mimosas. The staff is so friendly and very personable and it's a quaint little café. That makes you feel like you're dining in an antique shop. The food is fantastic and it's a great location! I would recommend it to anyone in the area. read more

This past weekend, I went with my parents and friends for dinner and had the beef empanadas, ahi tuna entree and coconut cream cake. All dinners are served with toasted bread with their fresh chimichurri sauce. While there, we got a preview of the pre fixe menu for Christmas Eve, which featured three courses for $45pp. Today, Christmas Eve, I returned with my parents and grandmothers. We each got the pre fixe menu and added on dessert of course. The beet burratini salad, beet carpaccio salad, and ahi tuna bites were amazing appetizers and generous portions for individual servings! I got the pork chop for my entree, which is a fan favorite of my family. The strawberry crepe cake was HUGE and out of this world! This is one of my favorite restaurants in the area! read more

My book club and I came tonight to meet since our resident Texan is in town and we needed a cute spot to get together to dine, drink, and do a book exchange. This spot is THE CUTEST, has a great selection of tapas, entrees, and desserts. Love that they're BYOB and offer sangria mix -- our server even offered to pop our bottles and mix the sangria for us. Speaking of our server, she was the absolute best -- shoutout to Tina, who was super attentive, personable, patient with our group of 8, and always on her game. She made everything look easy, and we know it isn't. We even tried to recruit her to our book club! Came here a week ago and enjoyed my experience! First, we parked in the street quite close to the restaurant - not sure if we just got lucky in finding a spot so easily, but I'll take it! When we entered, the host was missing, but he came back after a few minutes of waiting. We were seated and our server warned us that the bathrooms were closed due to some issue - not a great look, but we ended up being fine. Before I talk about the food, I need to mention that the decorations in this place were excellent. Lots of old pictures and just generally a cool, eclectic vibe. Our server did a good job throughout the meal, so no complaints on the service. I ordered the waffle-n-chicken sandwich while my wife got the veggie burger. The accompanying fries were very tasty, but the waffle-n-chicken sandwich left something to be desired, somehow. I was expecting the cheddar-jalapeno waffles to be more flavorful, and there wasn't enough honey sriracha sauce for my liking. My wife enjoyed her veggie burger so maybe I'm just picky :) Overall, I would come back here for the vibes, but I'd probably get something else to eat (and hopefully the bathrooms are fixed!). read more

That lady Tina gave us these weird little straws for our drinks. It turned my iced tea into a Bordentown Iced Tea and the fanciness was off the charts. We had a private dining experience and it was the single best dining experience we ever had ever. We have been meaning to go here for a long, long time. A walking tour of Bordentown allowed us to have lunch the other day. The 4 of us shared two appetizers - fried zucchini (I know, fried food!) and empanadas (more fried food!). Both appetizers were terrific. I had the Chicken and Waffle sandwich and found it to be very good, but the waffle itself was too hard and crunchy. Two others in the party chose the chicken sandwich on focaccia - excellent as well. Our remaining party member chose a salad and enjoyed it very much. We ate outside and it was refreshing. Went with a friend who used to frequent here. She had hyped it up a bit, so I feel like because of that my expectations were higher than they should have been. The ambiance is supper eclectic and cute. Location is great amongst many shops. We had the special empanada trio of the day, which we really enjoyed. The veggie option was probably our least favorite out of the three. We also shared a tapas tower and had the manchego pears with lavender and honey, a beef stew with plaintains, and the chimichurri steak. The steak was probably our favorite out of the three, and the pears were our least favorite. Rather than a lavender infused honey, it was honey drizzled with way too much dried lavender on top (that is coming from the 1/2 of us that loves lavender). The stew wasn't bad, but the two plantain chips weren't enough and definitely didn't add anything to the dish. The chimichurri was definitely a nice balance of meat potatoes and sauce. All in all, the meal was good, the service wasn't bad, and I wouldn't turn my nose up to returning if in the area again. read more

Amazing experience at Under the Moon Cafe. Our food came out within 10-15 minutes. We ordered the tapas tower, which includes 3 tapas from a list of available options. We chose the chorizo and brandy tapas, tostones con ropa vieja, and cazuela de queso. We ordered the duck mac and cheese as well and the caramel apple crumb cake for dessert. Excellent food, excellent service. Just beware of being seated under their HVAC ceiling vent; ask for a different table if that's where they put you. It blows on you like you're at the beach, and for me, I had trouble tasting my wonderful food because the "wind" kept blowing the flavors away, smell being half of tasting something. It is BYOB. Every now and then you find a place that reminds you of why you love dining out. Under the Moon is one of this places. Super warm atmosphere with five star service (Thanks Nina!) and wonderfully flavorful dishes. As we entered, I noticed the bread pudding in the desert case (my absolute favorite!), so we started with this. It was a great choice as the bread pudding was chocolate chip banana and was so, so good. For the meal, I selected the Cuban sandwich (delicious!) and my wife the plantain pulled pork sandwich (tender pork between plantain strips). Each sandwich came with French fries. We ended up taking half of each home. I had a coffee to drink, which was quite good. For me, the service is as important as the food and Nina provided top notch service (super friendly and attentive). We will definitely return to try other menu items. I went here for dinner the other day and had a great experience! For appetizers we shared some tapas. The tortilla espanola and the skirt steak were by far the best from the ones we ordered (we also had the patatas bravas, tostones con rope vieja, chorizo, and the Spanish meatballs which were all okay as well). For dinner I had the halibut which I very much enjoyed! I thought the cauliflower that it was served with was absolutely delicious and was a nice touch to the meal. Finally for dessert I got the tres leches which was pretty good also. Overall a great experience and would look forward to coming back. This place was really nice. My partner and I were traveling from upstate NY down to MD and searched restaurants near us on the way home. I'm glad we found it. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, from the decor to the staff working, everything was amazing. We really appreciated it the day after Christmas on the long drive home. The food was amazing, we got 2 orders of tapas to try as many dishes as we could. My favorite were the bacon wrapped dates and the skirt Steak. This is a lovely place in downtown Bordentown. We were greeted and seated promptly. We went for an early dinner so it wasn't busy. The food was good but could use a bit more care. I had the Strawberry & Spinach salad with grilled salmon. The server asked me how I wanted it cooked which was medium for salmon, however it came out over cooked. The tuna was seared to perfection and it melted in your mouth. I also shared the crispy Brussels, which were good with the added aioli but could've used an additional ingredient like bacon or pancetta. We had a wonderful brunch today at Under the Moon! It was our first visit. We loved just about everything from the decor, service, ambiance to the delicious food. My friend had the Cuban ropa vieja served with tostones, rice and black beans. At $28 I would have liked to see a lunch portion and price for this entee. She loved it, and I tried it.. it was delicious. I had the Cajun spiced shrimp and cheese grits. It was a nice brunch portion $14. I'd always wanted to try this dish, and I wasn't disappointed. We both decided to splurge on dessert at $9 each. She chose a lemon meringue crepe cake; I had the crepe cake with chocolate chunks. The lemon was definitely the better of the two. I found the crepes rather chewy, and there was too much whipped cream for my taste. None of that was the fault of the beautiful dessert... just my taste. The only poor part of the meal was coffee that was so weak it turned practically white from the addition of milk. When we asked for cream and more coffee, we were brought cream and a little pot of equally weak coffee. Their coffee service needs improvement to match yummy deserts on offer. We arrived at the Lambertville location after visiting the Bordentown location a few times and were just as pleasantly surprised by how amazing the entire experience was. There was a brand new bartender training and she was perfectly accommodating and kind. The food and libations were flavorful and inventive. Only wish we lived closer to visit more often. read more

Under the Moon Cafe is a charming little place with eclectic decor of mismatched chairs and tables, which look like they could have been picked up at a consignment shop. The overall ambiance is nice. However, I found the interior a bit to dimly light, a few brighter lights would be nice. I went here for lunch recently and we ordered the Crab Cake Sandwich and the Grilled Salmon Sandwich. I found the portion size of both the crab cake and salmon, subpar. My crab cake was completely overshadowed by the huge brioche bun. For a $13 sandwich a little more substance would be nice. Where this place excels is dessert, by far. I literally had the best Coconut Cream pie I have ever had in my life! It was a huge piece, yet light and fluffy. The key ingredient is Mascarpone cheese. Calling it a coconut cream pie is a bit misleading, it's more like a cheesecake, but oh so delicious. Indulge!! read more

Right when I walked into the cafe it had a "come in and relax" type of vibe. My Sunday brunch with my friend was in the perfect comfort spot for chit chat and having breakfast. It's filled with shabby chic furniture. Cute! A musician played guitar and sang but not overbearing. Loved this! Both of us had the breakfast empanada with potatoes. The food itself was okay. The empanada was fried and super greasy. I think I would have went with something a little more simple like eggs, toast and sausage with fruit if I was going for breakfast food again. I have been putting off writing this review for a week because I didn't want to dislike it as much as I did. But the first time I went maybe 4 years ago I remember loving it and I even brought food to go ! This second time ... definitely not the case. We ordered 4 tapas for $35 The beet and goat cheese salad. The tapas we ordered were ; tortilla española , albóndigas ( meatballs ) salpicón de marisco ( seafood salad ) , gambas al ajillo ( garlic shrimp ) We asked for it to come all at the same time ... to begin, the salad was the most unimpressive group of veggies put together, I have ever encountered with not even, a hint of dressing ( I had to request more ) it was arugula and two balls of a cheese and beets and that cost, I believe $13. I am not cheap whatsoever ..I think I spoil myself at home and expect more out of my salads. Their could have been pears , walnuts , Craisans but NO ! it was a sad salad day , this salad had no flocloric friends . Next the appetizers came out wrong, we received ropa vieja instead of tortilla except, I don't like ropa vieja and my mother can't eat beef, so we did not eat that. Then waited for the tortilla which was not cooked properly the egg was scrambled and put with potatoes ( My parents are both from from Spain.. I go yearly .. that is not tortilla española ) and never ever served with sauce ?!?? The meatballs were average 3/5. Had been cooked in the week and served through out. Nothing fresh. All seafood was chewy and I'm sorry but gross. Like absolutely NOT good , NOT fresh , chewy , plastic with no taste. I do not recommend at all to order those two apps . I had creme brûlée and it was plain and it tasted as if it had been out a long time. Their service was mediocre , my server fixed the mistake she made although she did take a long time to get boxes to wrap food and to get my bill. Also , never asked how the food was and failed to notice a lot of it wasn't even eaten ( I am a server in the summers and have worked in hospitality always. You notice these things ??) Positives / recommendations : The bread in the beginning with olive oil and herbs was the best and ( my mother enjoyed it I found it hard and average but I want to put all view points ) the decor is unique and well kept. Furniture Is fun to look at. Dishes need to be revised , honed in on and sparkled. Severs should have a pad in their hands ALWAYS and check within 1 min of food coming out and then come back with 3 min of food being eaten. After the bill is given- check in often ( for most young people that is gooooo time we wanna swipe and leave ) if severs have nothing to do they should be cleaning something , rolling silverware , prepping for next shift . Never sitting and especially in front of customers. Just makes a place look different. read more

We had high hopes after reading all the reviews and seeing savory pictures, but my husband and I had a not-so-great experience. The pictures I took look amazing, but the flavor wasn't there.... and before we get there, it's important to mention my husband wanted two things that they were already out of... at noon? They didn't have their special lemonade that was presented on the board as you walk in, and they also didn't have the steak for the steak and eggs? Interesting. The breakfast empanadas were just okay. So were the chicken and waffles for him. I ordered the eggs benedict and did not enjoy the hollandaise sauce at all. The potatoes that came with were also soggy and like warm. Our server also liked to disappear for long periods of time. I think it sucks when you keep having to ask for more water. I guess it just wasn't a good day/time for them when we chose to go... because it seems like everyone else has an amazing time here. We FINALLY got back to this precious restaurant, after going only for dessert a few summers ago. This place has such a special place in my heart because I fell in love with my Vince here on our second date one fated August night in 2015 :) We only had desserts back then, but now, the true icing .... DINNER! Ours was stupendous! From the dense olive bread and perfect pear spinach salad (we shared a bounty of it for only $9) to our insanely good entrees of: mushroom risotto & chicken gnocchi Our meals were cooked to perfection & we said half way through that we'd order the same dishes again. The atmosphere is so quaint, cozy & eclectic with the mismatched, quality, antique furniture & decor. Under the moon has an adorable little set up outside on Farnsworth Avenue in Bordentown. There is a canopy over all of the tables with room between each table. The service was impeccable. I wish I could remember our servers name. She was a really sweet younger girl. Very attentive and talkative. You could tell she genuinely likes her job and being around people which is nice. Onto the food. THE FOOD IS FANTASTIC. We started with the breakfast empanadas for an appetizer. They were crispy and hot when they came out. A little small for a meal but perfect for an appetizer. We also received a garlic bread and chimichuri (all tables get this I believe). Additionally we each ordered a meal. My mom got the quiche of the day which was chorizo, peppers, and Swiss cheese and I ordered the flatbread of the day which was pork roll, egg, and cheese. Both items were hot and fresh. We split each meal and still had plenty to bring home. If you are considering coming here for breakfast, lunch, or dinner -- DO IT! You will not regret it. read more

I was told one was vegetable the other was meatball. I ordered the vegetable. Out came broth with carrots and a meatball split in half. Um ok. I ordered the CHARRED broccolini salad. No char. Ice cold and slathered in dressing that tasted bottled. I asked for my bill. I was a brought the credit card device with it facing me with the amount in her hand as she said this is what you owe. I never received an itemized bill and I wasn't ready to pay at the exact moment. Everything about this visit was wrong. Usually I'd always give a 2nd try. We came here for lunch with our 6 year old today. The restaurant wasn't very busy and we were seated right away. We were seated by ourselves at the very back of the restaurant even though all the other tables were seated closer to the door. We sat down and reviewed the menu. The young waitstaff walked back and forth over 20 times and no one stopped. No eye contact at all. After 15 mins I walked up front to the group of young men standing around and asked for water. They apologized and someone finally gave us water and took our order. The food was good but no one stopped by during the meal and asked if we needed anything. My son wanted more syrup but thankfully he continued to eat his waffle without it so I didn't have to chase anyone down. Good food, disappointing service. read more
