I ordered a chicken tikka burrito through grubhub. I picked up the order and when I opened the bag, the burrito unwrapped itself and I basically had a flat tortilla with food on top. I went back and told them the issue, but the employee didnt understand english, so he had to connect to someone for me to talk to(assuming it was the owner). The owner handled professionally and told me that they will make a new one. I waited for maybe a couple minutes, and the employee comes out with the "new" burrito. At this point, I didnt want to waste more time, so I just took the food and left. Needless to say, the burrito was the same unwrapped burrito with a new tear on one of the sides. The store has lack of training and service. I cannot rate the food, because I threw it away. Wasted $12. read more

Ordered my togo order and the guy said the wait would be 25 minutes, but went there in 10 minutes and surprisingly the order was ready which is not a problem at all. Came home and tried eating it, food was super stale and not one thing was fresh. This spot is tucked away in a Safeway Plaza. There seemed to be seating open within the establishment while shelter-in-place is going on with distancing inbetween which was nice because we went here on a rainy day. We were able to order and in approximately 15-20 minutes the food was ready. We ordered the loaded fries, chicken tikka masala tacos, and the chicken tikka masala sandwich. I have been to this restaurant 2nd time and I was very disappointed seeing the cooks wearing no masks at all. I am not sure how many cooks were inside working but two of them walked out for restroom without wearing masks. I ordered the butter chicken sliders. The bun was very soggy and shriveled up. Butter chicken flavor was alright. The food was not hot at all. When I got to the restaurant to pick up my order there was no one in the front to greet me or ask if I was there to place an order or pick up an order. There was some one else waiting ahead of me. When someone who worked there eventually came out, they helped the lady before me and then walked back to the kitchen. Mind you I could just see my food hanging out by the cash register. Urban Kitchen is one of my favorite restaurants in the Fremont/Union City/Newark area because of the staff's dedication to making quality, delicious and interesting food. No, their menu isn't the cheapest -- but it shouldn't be. It's fairly priced, considering the amount of labor, quality of ingredients, and effort that is put into their food. Indian food, like Chinese food, sometimes suffers from the assumptions that it should be fast and cheap, that it's only about "standard" fare like tikka masala, and that it's not that classy. I love and appreciate that this place challenges all of that. We got their samosas once, and the plate that came out was not only as artfully and gracefully plated as you could expect from much more expensive restaurant, it was perfectly made and delicious. This was not a mass-produced, mass-fried in stale oil kind of samosa -- this was made to order, with care and high quality ingredients. This attention to detail means some wait time for every order. I think as long as you know this beforehand and set your expectations, you might not feel as impatient. :) Let me help you with your order: 1) BADAM (Almond) MILK - get at least 1 bottle/person! (You may want to call in advance because sometimes they run out) Their badam milk is made from scratch every single morning. We learned this from talking with the proprietor after embarrassingly visiting multiple times per week to buy more of it for ourselves and for friends (always a hit - highly recommend!). As a non-Desi, I was enlightened to learn that making this product is incredibly time and labor intensive. Rarely do you find this product homemade and of such quality. Every single bottle comes with a huge amount of ground almonds in it so drink up and enjoy! 2) NAAN PIZZA - get achari paneer or chicken Since the COVID-19 shelter-in-place order, we've tried to visit every Friday to get a bit of a pizza fix to go with a movie night. The naan pizza is our absolute new fave. There's some kind of cumin-infused, peppery spice (maybe that's the achari haha) that really amps up every bite. The paneer is soft and creamy. The naan yields a beautiful crunch and is flavorful in its own right. Zero complaints, infinite reasons for you to order a naan pizza. 3) MANGO HABANERO SOYA CHAAP So, soya chaap basically reminds me of soy gluten pieces in Chinese cooking - those chewy, soaks-in-everything-you-flavor-it-with bits. In this dish, the soy bits are marinated in this wild, sweet & spicy sauce. It is kind of unlike anything else on the menu IMO. More dishes like this please! 4) CHICKEN TIKKA The bf is vegetarian which means I get the entire order of chicken tikka to myself, what a deal. :) Every piece has that smoky grilled tikka flavor on the outside, but gives way to tender chicken inside. For me, "favorite chicken tikka in Fremont" is a toss up between this rendition and the Keeku da Dhaba grill truck. 5) KULFI The kulfi here comes on a wooden stick and is the creamiest thing ever. It has a slightly chewy texture when you bite into it, and reminds me a bit of eating a caramel. Same richness and sugar heaven. 6) CHAI - 1 cup/person Their chai is made-to-order which surprised us. Having been put through extensive chai-making training by the bf, I know now that it takes patience and time to make good chai. You have to really thoroughly slow boil the milk until it becomes creamy and sweet. So, if they take some time to bring out your chai, feel reassured that they're making it from scratch instead of just pouring it from a vat made hours ago. read more

However, currently the quantity has become way too small. Other restaurants in the Fremont, Union City area offer much better quality and quantity of food. My Order: paneer quesadilla, kulcha, mango mojito. Drinks: It came roughly in a 8-12 oz cup, for $4.99 each I would have hoped to have a bigger drink. Mango mojito tasted alright but it didn't have much flavor, and they put mint on top so you don't actually taste mint. Food: portions are great but the flavor isn't there. Kulcha, they served it on an English muffin which is on the dry side along with dry ingredients so it was definitely not my favorite. Paneer Quesadilla reminded me of the chili paneer pizza from Bombay pizza but in tortilla form. Not a good fusion. I did enjoy the taste but finding a piece of chicken in my vegetarian meal was off putting. I showed the other cashier and she could see the meat fibers clearly and that it was a different color and shape than all of the other paneer pieces. She proceeds to take it into the back and says that's just how paneer is when it's warmed up. They said they are remaking it. I told them to just cancel the order and they thankfully refunded me and offered more food on the house but I lost my appetite after the ordeal.
