I recently visited Urban Plates in Pasadena, near my office. It's located in an area with lots of restaurants, so don't confuse it with the restaurant across the street called Urbane Cafe. We also have an Urban Plates in Long Beach, and I have to say they're very consistent with their restaurant layouts and overall experience. This Pasadena location was especially beautiful. I loved the décor throughout the restaurant. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and quick to serve us. We dined in, and our food came out surprisingly fast. I ordered a kids' steak plate, and I appreciated that the staff didn't question or refuse my order. I know some restaurants don't allow adults to order from the kids' menu, but it's the perfect portion size for me. The steak was cooked medium as I requested, very tender, and the potatoes were nicely seasoned. They don't offer steak sauce, but I asked for the chimichurri instead, and it worked out. Overall, I had a great experience and would definitely return to this Urban Plates location.

Ordered Doordash since they're having a promo of 45% off orders of $15+! Got the Half Sandwich Combo ($12.50) but I got the Grilled Grass Fed Steak so that's an extra $2.49. it came with slice of toast and side (soup or salad). I got the Tomato Basil Soup. I also paid +$1.00 for Chimichurri. The 1/2 sandwich looked pretty small but it was stuffed with very generous portions of steak! It was an incredible medium rare and it was grilled very nicely. It was slightly dry and wished it had a bit more flavor but not a big deal! The Chimichurri was a bit disappointing. It seemed more like olive oil with bits of parsley than a sauce made with olive oil and blended herbs and parsley. The tomato basil soup was good. It seemed more like tomato sauce than a soup since the consistency was very thick. I liked that they used fresh tomatoes and it was packed with flavor. Also, really enjoyed the complimentary toast and croutons! Overall, I thought it was a good deal with the promo but a bit overpriced if I were to pay full price. I enjoyed the steak but thought the Chimichurri and tomato basil soup was just ok.

This was our second Urbane Cafe we visited in two months. We loved every bite of our meal. We tried for the first time the Crunchy Peanut salad, the Santa Maria BBQ Chicken salad and the Chimichuri steak sandwich. We cleaned our bowls the salads were absolutely delicious. The sandwich was rich in flavor and came with a side salad. Fresh baked cookies are also displayed. I've was so pleasantly surprised to see they offer Sriracha. They have several fountain drink options and lemonade. Free 90 min parking in back of the store.

Ordered the chopped turkey salad. Fresh and delightful salad. Service was good but the guy at the cashier wasn't so pleasant.

Brought a friend here since this has been one of my favorite Pasadena go-to's, and I'm happy to say it still holds up as a favorite :) I ordered the Seared Wild Ahi Tuna with Macaroni & Cheese and Steamed Asparagus as sides, along with the raspberry & ginger kombucha. I loved how soft and juicy the Seared Wild Ahi Tuna was. This is officially my new go-to The Macaroni & Cheese was also super soft and just the right amount of cheesy, so I'm glad I chose that as a side. And the Steamed Asparagus was seasoned really well, so I'd definitely get it again. The staff was really nice and helpful, and our food came out within minutes Plus, the inside of the restaurant is very pretty lol.

On a Saturday 11am in Early May, my sister and I had lunch to try their special. We ordered at the cashier of chicken chimichurri with 2 sides -side salad Caesar and mash potatoes and gravy $10.95. There are plenty of tables to sit and it is self service of plates, water, utensils. The food came out fast. Everything was delicious and I got full. Nice ambiance inside. I forgot how good the food is and everything was freshly made.

I ordered the grilled chicken cobb salad and it was so yummy! The portion was great, especially for the price) and the dressing was perfect. Thank you Norma for your help and my oatmeal cookie!

From the service to the food everything was excellent. Jose our cashier was able to recommend some great choices in food and he did not disappoint. I Forsure will be coming back.

Located on Lake Ave in Pasadena, Urban Plates sits amongst other popular restaurants for lunch. There is street parking but its only for 1 hour. There's also parking in the lots on the opposite side of the street, but those also fill up quick. Urban plates offers up a variety of foods that trend mostly to the healthy side. The prices are a little higher end for lunch, but the quality makes up for it. I ordered the Moroccan chicken with rice and was pleasantly surprised by the flavor. It has a nice spice flavor to it, not to be confused with spicy. The sauce has a slight sweetness that pairs really well with the rice. The bread offers a great way to scoop up the last of the sauce and as a nice change in texture. The service was incredible and everyone was really friendly. They have patio seating and its not too loud even in the middle of the day.

It's been forever since we've been here, was in the area and wanted a light lunch, this is perfect! Previously service was like a cafeteria (walk down counter and choose your meal and sides) now, you place your order at the counter and then food is delivered to your table. Customer service after placing order is just okay, no follow up if you need anything for your meal. Restaurant is located on Lake Boulevard in Pasadena, street parking is available but limited with payment required, free nearby parking lot available.

    Love this cookie!!

Had to stop in now that they have the seasonal BBQ ribs back on the menu. The meat is very soft and tasty. Highly recommend and of course can't go wrong with the cowgirl cookies. Jaryn was great in taking my order.

I was pleasantly surprised at the welcoming staff and warm ambiance. Going to slide one complaint in here, the noise level in the upstairs portion of the restaurant is LOUD. We sat upstairs and it was pretty difficult to hear my friends talk from just across the table. We powered through, and by the second half of our meal, most diners had finished and left us upstairs with only a couple of lingering parties. THEN this place became GREAT! Here's all that we stuffed ourselves with during the cacophony of chatter: flaky buttermilk biscuits, honey butter (3pc; please allow 20 minutes) - totally worth the 20 mins!! Super buttery and flaky, I might go back JUST FOR THIS! crispy calamari, horseradish cocktail sauce - great little kick in the sauce. Perfectly lightly battered. fideos, clams, chorizo, saffron, sweet sherry aïoli - mmmm, this was delicious. The Spanish chorizo enhanced the broth with a good saltiness. white shrimp from the griddle, aïoli - this was my favorite. The shrimp was not overcooked and peeled easily. The flavor was good enough to slurp the juices out. single burger, prime chuck, tillamook cheddar, dijonaise, egg brioche bun & crispy french fries - good meaty burger, love the dijonaise, GREAT shoestring fries. Parking is a little challenging during the day, not so bad in the evening. It's South Pas, a little neighborhood walk after dinner never hurts.

Food here is very safe, trite, hackneyed California cuisine beaten to death like a worn out horse. It's not really bad and not very good offending no one, but food that is boring and not particularly drop dead flavourful. I wasn't super hungry and decided to order more of the sides. 1) French Fries with some skin on, looking rustic, had a touch of that ineffable earthy potato flavour. Asked for extra crispy, but just got a bit crispy so their default fries must be rather limp. Standard ketchup in a steel ramekin. 2) Roasted Golden Beet & Arrugula Salad had sweet, softer, smooth texture, Arrugula had a fibrous, good green herbal, peanut oil scented flavour. Not too funky, creamy goat cheese. Roasted walnut halves. All napped with a subtle Champagne Vinaigrette. Portion was about half of what would be expected in other comparable restaurants. 3) Bread Pudding: The bread was spongy, moist, eggy almost like a flan but lacked a deeper dairy, milkiness as well as lack of hints of warm spices such as cinnamon, allspice, ginger, cloves. Bland would describe the general overall flavour. Topped with cream rich ice cream. Scattering of blueberry, blackberry, strawberry. At home, I drizzled on Grand Marnier for more citrus cognac aromatics. 1-3a) Iced Tea The food here seems to be the Midwest version of what California cuisine should be. Middle of the road, steady as she goes, don't rock the boat. Our waitress was efficient, helpful, thoughtful in a business-like manner which facilitated our group of 8. The male helper with a moustache and the inked hand was great at keeping our glasses topped off. 3 stars for a safe, not overly effusive food that does not offend. The outdoor optics holds the charm and strength of this restaurant.

It reminded us of the HAT's pastrami sandwich... FILET MIGNON: 9/10 looks delicious! My party finished his plate... CLAM CHOWDER: 10/10 My mother in law said it was very good! ARTICHOKES: 7/10 Very dry. We had to replace it with another appetizer... SPINACH DIP: 9/10 Delicious!!! The dip's flavor and texture really stood out... AMBIANCE: 10/10 Nice and a bit dimmed ambiance. We sat at a circular table for a part of 6 on the first floor. It felt really nice and intimate and you can watch the game on the TV screen as well... ROCK ON NICK'S SOUTH LAKE AVENUE!!!!!

Ambiance is great, though a little loud. Service is good…read more All our entrees were very good BUT the artichokes were not good. We first thought they were undercooked. They were warm (not hot) and it was difficult to get any meat off of them. I rarely ask for something to be sent back but especially for the price point here, these were not OK. We let them know that they were undercooked. The chokes were gone for a while and when they came back they were slightly better so we just made due and realized that they just weren't very good artichokes. Also, though the heart was good, the flavor of the leaves was not great and the dipping sauce was nothing special. They were covered with diced onions for some reason. When it's $21 for three halves, it was very disappointing.

Honestly, so surprised to find a restaurant like this in the middle of Alhambra. For appetizer, we really enjoyed the Chicken Liver Mousse. The house-made seasonal jam is so good (we just had strawberry) and pairs really well with the mousse. For brunch, we got the Grass-fed Hangar Steak Breakfast Plate which is an elevated version of your typical breakfast staples. Amazing flavor and they cook the steak perfectly every time. We also tried one of their seasonal desserts and it is a must-have. I forgot the name, but it was a melon sorbet paired with fresh mangoes, coconut milk, and sago. Super unique and refreshing. Highly recommend this place if you are looking for an upscale restaurant with a casual feel. Service is amazing, especially if you have Kai. We look forward to visiting again soon to try their dinner menu.

They don't take reservations for brunch, but they have a Yelp waitlist you can join ahead of time. There was only around a 15 min wait for us when we went on a Sunday for brunch. Service was friendly and attentive, and the dishes we tried were all delicious and thoughtfully prepared. - Cold sesame noodles - so yummy and flavorful! The sesame sauce was so good and nutty and the chili crisp added a nice extra kick. A big portion size so great for sharing too - Breakfast plate - comes with your choice of protein, so we got the grass-fed hanger steak. I love their take on the hash brown - it was hearty and thick with a delightfully crispy exterior - Cornmeal mochi pancake - was so excited to try this one! Loved the mochi texture with the cornmeal flavor, and it was not overly sweet or heavy. Very sharable! Parking: there's a nearby parking structure with free parking as well as an open parking lot directly behind the restaurant

I've heard some good things about this place and from other fellow yelpers friends, it must be…read moreworth it. Had a dinner reservation with some girlfriends celebrating two of their birthdays. The restaurant itself isn't too big but it does a pack a nice punch. Cute patio out front that takes some of the sidewalks and streets. Plenty of heat lamps which helped with the chilly nights. We got seated at one of the tables on the patios which was nice. Didn't really utilize inside area except for the restroom which it's quite cute in there. The rooms were pretty well decorated and executed. Nice bar area too. Like mentioned, we got seated on the patio and the heat lamps were great. Down to the menus, it's quite limited on dishes. Seemed like there were more shared plates versus the entrees. Drinks, it was fairly decent with their cocktails and wine. Service at the beginning was great. The staff were amazing and very friendly. We didn't order right away as we were still waiting for the last one to show. But did start off with some drinks. It didn't take that long for the first round which was nice. Food wise, the shared plate was a mixture of everything. Some of the olives, which is exactly what it is. The Belgian fries, nice thick cut fries with shredded pecorino cheese and a nice aioli sauce. We ended up getting a second order of it. The albacore tuna crudo was a hit which was really tasty. Chili ginger relish, mint and shallot, can't go wrong with that. Lastly the meatballs, tasty and very great for sharing. Entrees, the pan seared sea bass which I loved. Portion is pretty tiny which also seemed like they were a shared plate. Almost tapas styled. Nice chimichurri sauce and a side salad. The chicken Milanese also with a side salad of arugula. Simple dish but quite tasty. One of the salads that was somewhat hyped up by the waitress but it was just a salad. Decent but nothing major to rave about...lol... also the confit oyster mushrooms was major hit. Something that simple but quite tasty. And lastly the pan con tomate, rustic sourdough with tomatoes and burrata. Tasty as well. Overall the meal was good. From there, the second round of drinks did take a long time to arrive and with then plates that we shared, trying to get someone to clear the plates was another thing. Took a long for someone to clear the table before more items came. Even when the entrees came, all the empty starter plates were still there. And if someone did clear the plates, some was still left on the table. Finishing off the night, we did have the dessert which we tried all three. As it was two of our girlfriends birthday, they brought out a little bubbly for us to celebrate with the dessert. That was quite sweet and nice. Honestly opinion with the dessert, they were just ok. Nothing major to rave about. We tried all three on the menu and they were just ok. Overall, the food was great. Service was nice and the staffs were all very friendly. It did take a while for plates to get cleared from the table and second round did take a while, but it was manageable. It was a sweet gesture with the bubbly with the dessert which was greatly appreciated. The place is nice and great for catching up. Menu is limited and portions are quite small. You would have to get a good amount for sharing. Entrees, depending on what you order is small as well. But we enjoyed ourself.

Come here for the drinks, vibes and brunch…read more Their breakfast options are better than their dinner service. I can't eat here for dinner as a vegetarian, they have little to no options. Would it kill them to add a veggie burger? Service is consistently awful. I've been here half a dozen times and I've never had good service. Drinks and water are never refilled unless I ask. It takes forever to get our order and once we do our server disappears. Seriously so bad. But I keep coming back for their good food.
