Ive passed by this place a few times but had never tried it. I thought it looked kind of basic, but it was actually pretty good. We had the gojuchang tofu plate with quinoa and balsamic brussel sprouts and the chicken strips with fries and sesame broccoli. The food was simple but satisfying. The cashier gave us a free chocolate chip cookie because it was broken so he couldn't sell it. I thought that was cool because he could've thrown it in the trash instead. I gladly took the cookie and it was delicious! You can order from the cashier or go contact less and use the little screen up front if you're not feeling a social interaction. I can see myself coming back on a day when I don't feel like cooking and just want something simple. They also have a thanksgiving meal package that looked kind of cool. I just didn't give it five stars because my streak was slightly undercooked which made it hard to eat but I also did not want it well done (which there is an option for if you like your steak that way), it was just closer to rare than medium rare. Unfortunately, they forgot my garlic BREAD, and even after I reminded the server, the BREAD never arrived--especially noticeable since other tables seated after me received their BREAD. Please ensure that the BREAD is not forgotten, as it's arguably the best part of the meal and a basic expectation. The salmon was undercooked, and I only noticed when I got home. then another time I ordered the salmon plate again and only one fourth of the gravy cup was filled. today I ordered the cheeseburger with no cheese and the pickles were missing. Luckily, I checked in the car and I noticed the pickles were missing. I love pickles so I went back to the restaurant and told them and they gave me pickles in a small container. One of our occasional go tos. Fresh ingredients and good quality meat for a decent price. We grabbed the chimichurri chicken and the grass fed steak. Our sides were the basmati rice, Parmesan mushrooms, and marble potatoes. The ordering kiosk is kind of a pain in the butt with all the options so I'd see if you can order at the counter. Service was quick and friendly and the food was good and hot. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was 5:45ish and a little busy as we ate but there was still plenty of seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Parking garages are close or there may be street parking after 6pm. We always grab a giant cookie to go and the chocolate chip cookie was amazing as usual. We did almost screw up as we waited till the end of the meal and the dinner surge left us with the last cookie. They make more each day but we'd have had to go with something else. Very convenient, good food, and nice employees. Make it a good spot to stop. I used to love Urban Plates--but it totally fell off. I was a regular especially during the pandemic--I'd get the Moroccan braised chicken at another location. It used to be rich, creamy, full of olives, and felt like a real stew. To say that it was a delicious meal is an understatement. In contrast, what I got today was a watery, bland mess. The stew was soupy, barely had any chicken or squash, and there were no olives or other veggies at all. It's basically chicken and potato soup with some random seasonings in it. I chose rice instead of mashed potatoes--bad call. It used to be fluffy jasmine rice; now it's some dry ginger turmeric version that doesn't pair well with the dish at all. This kind of meal needs creaminess or at least proper texture contrast. The whole bowl felt flat, flavorless, and skimpy. The last time I tried this was a couple years ago and honestly, it was already starting to slip. I figured maybe it was a one-and-done thing or just a bad location. But trying it again now, at a different spot, it's clear the quality overall just isn't what it used to be. Portions as of 2025 are even smaller, flavor is weaker, AND it now costs $15. This used to be $10, and back then it was actually worth it. The price hike would be fine if the quality held up, but it hasn't. That said, the environment was clean, the area is walkable and pleasant, and my order was ready early, which I appreciated. Even if it hadn't been, it would've been fine since the pickup spot is in a nice location. The service was totally fine--no complaints there. I'm giving one extra star only because they still list the ingredients, so I can try to remake the original version at home. But yeah--this was a huge letdown. I won't be coming back. It comes in big portions and is packed with ingredients. We also got to try the Beef Short Ribs bowl and it's such a comfort food - tender beef on a bed of mashed tomatoes with heartwarming sauce. It's like grandma's homemade recipe. Such quality food for less than $25 is a rare find these days. The space is huge with big long table and some tables for 4. It is a family friendly place. Took me a long time before I finally got a chance to go to urban plate. High quality food with tons of healthy food choices. I personally love the chicken tender the most. It's crispy, tender, and juicy. For $15, you can also get 2 sides. Price is very affordable. Moreover, they have great outdoor seating. It's very relaxing sitting outside for a weekend lunch. The workers here are friendly and the service is good. The place is clean and spacious with plenty of seats. Ironically, ordering there at the cashier is faster than ordering on mobile. I came after my friends and my food came after theirs even though they did mobile orders before I made mine at the cashier. I ordered the surf and turf with mashed potatoes and fries. I ordered their beets + avocado bowl with a side of chili glazed grilled tofu and truffle parmesan fries. The fries were delicious - pillowy interior with a nice touch of truffle. The tofu was also good, although the charred marks were too smoky / burnt for my preference but the sweet chili glaze helped mask it. I ordered the grilled grass-fed steak no extra sauce with a side of the mushroom stuffing and roasted carrots and potatoes. Everything was seasoned well and now I'm excited for my leftovers tomorrow. The hummus and pita chips was delicious. My friend had the garlic shrimp with Parmesan butter with the side of beet and goat cheese salad and the mushrooms. So so so good! I did takeout so I can't say how service was but the menu was easy to navigate and once the service saw you waiting they were good to let you know the status of your order. I thought I liked Urban Plates until I tried placing a mobile order through their app today. Urban Plates charges a 3% surcharge to every order to "offset the cost of rising wages and benefits." Sure, 3% is not a lot, but 3% of every order adds up... I wholeheartedly believe that Urban Plates should pay their employees a livable wage and NOT pass their responsibilities off to the consumers. As a customer, it is not my responsibility to help offset rising costs of your payroll. Consumers support staff by tipping. I was disgusted and saddened when I saw this pop up in the app and decided to order lunch from somewhere else today. I'm disappointed in Urban Plates for this and will no longer be eating here and encouraging my friends to boycott as well. Unfortunate to come back to a once-5-star review draft I wrote in 2023 to leave a 1-star review instead. read more

My husband and I had first tried Urban plates at their Livermore/Pleasanton location and loved it, so we were pleasantly surprised to know that there was one in the South Bay as well ! Ordering and food delivery was seamless and fast. Plus their ingredients taste fresh and thus delicious. Service was also professional, and they also have outdoor seating (so I'm wondering if we could take a dog here in the future...) The indoor seating was not super abundant but it had a nice vibe (think warm, warehouse brewery feel) but my husband and I did not have issues finding a spot. Tried Santana Row location first, and wasn't too impressed. Decided to try the Sunnyvale location...also not too impressive...could have been marginally better than Santana Row? Came about an hour before closing. I personally ordered the steak place with Caesar salad, fries, and rustic bread. Steak was below average (a bit rubbery), salad was good, fries were not crispy or hot, and bread was stale. Others ordered a grilled chicken plate and a chicken cobb salad. They thought it was ok, but nothing too impressive. Seating inside and outside available. Parking can definitely be tough during peak hours...so your best bet might be to park in the garage. read more
