I found Urbantopia on a visit to Portland last month. The owner was super nice! I think my manicurist was Lucy. They introduced me to shellac, which lasted so much longer than gel polish. Lucy called my manicure my "best nails," and they really were! The manicure lasted four weeks before I went to get another -- not a single nail chipped, even though I went on a camping trip 4 days after the manicure!! I was so impressed with their friendliness and professionalism. I will be going back to Urbantopia on future visits to Portland. read more

I highly recommend anyone in downtown Portland to go to this spa. Customer service is impeccable. I was a walk in on a busy Saturday afternoon hoping to get a mani, pedi, and facial. I guess there's a reason a year passes between each time I come here. This is the 4th time I've given Urbantopia a shot and I'm disappointed every time. The staff is nice, but the color selection and results are never worth the proximity to my job. I've had a few shellac manicures here and overall the experience is never great. My shellac starts to peel after 5 days, my cuticles are a hot mess, and the polish is bumpy and blotchy (as thought the nail polish is old). Additionally, every time I've gone here, I've been cut or snagged with cuticle cutters to the extent that my fingers bleed. I'll just walk the extra 20 minutes to my usual spot next time. read more

I stopped in while I was visiting for a manicure. The lady that did my nails was the owners mom, she was there helping out. She was so sweet and so nice to talk to! After driving 3000 miles from New Orleans to Portland I needed a massage and a facial to alleviate stress and fatigue and pain before starting my job the next day. Hardly can you call last minute to a good place and get in but Urbantopia accommodated me at the end of their day. I was able to park in a lot very close by and they greeted me by name when I walked in. Catherine cleared up my skin with an amazing facial and relieved my back and neck of the many spasms and knots with the aromatherapy touch massage. After moving to Portland last fall, I have been on the hunt for a good manicurist that does shellac. After attending Urbantopia's open house, a family friend highly recommended Catherine T, who she has been seeing for years. I discovered that the walk-in nail salon I had been going to had used cheap gel polish (different from CND Shellac) that was ruining my nails and preventing them from growing out. Since seeing Catherine this March, my nails are healthier and stronger than ever, thanks to her patience and use of only the highest quality Shellac products. She is also very good at nail art (which I am now able to do since having long nails!!). She also gives a great pedicure, and I look forward to trying her aromatherapy treatment. The salon has a calming and relaxing atmosphere, which is SOOO nice compared to the other Portland salons that offer shellac services. I highly recommend going! read more

A little frustrated. Came here a month or so ago and absolutely loved my experience. Back in town again I decided I would try them again and I was standing outside their doors for about 10 mins at 10:30 - a half hour after they supposedly opened, with an open sign in the window - and the doors were locked. I stopped by this place because it's near my office and even though it's significantly more expensive than my usual salon in Lake Oswego (and they charge to take off shellac), I figured based on the great reviews that it would be worth it. Worst shellac manicure I've ever received. Terrible polish job - thick and lumpy and sloppy, and there are sections on the edges that don't have polish at all. The woman at the desk was incredibly apologetic and told me to come back to have it fixed, but now I'm stuck with this awful manicure hours before flying out of town for the weekend. We had a bridal party here a few days before my wedding. Tracy, Kelly and Catherine were great! They were super patient (there were a few kids and a whole lot of yapping women) and they were really friendly. Not in 20 min or half hour, but tomorrow. It wasn't closing time either. FYI they are super expensive$$ 65 dollars for a mani-pedi with gel on hands. Double the price of what I pay in LA. My nails were not looking sexy on my last day of my vacay. I checked out the nail salons in the area and they had the highest rating. I called first to see if they had any availability so I walked several blocks on a hot day to get my nails did. The manicurist was very sweet, funny and friendly. I just forgot to get her name. Anyway, she did my complete shellac manicure except she asked to have one of the other manicurist to paint my nails. I didn't realize till I left that there were some polish near my cuticles. I was in town for an overnight and desperately needed to get my nails done. I chose this nail salon because of their high ratings and I have to say, the ratings are spot on! I called to request a walk in and spoke to the owner who was so pleasant, professional, and inviting. As soon as I walked in, she greeted me and as I was choosing my colors, she immediately got the water ready for my pedicure. My pedi was amazing! I did not get the young woman's name as she did not speak english, but she definitely understood that my feet were jacked and in need of some serious TLC and she gave it to me; I literally fell asleep! After my coma induced pedi, she did a no chip mani and again, did a wonderful job. I was upset with myself for forgetting to grab cash because majority of Asian salons will not accept tips on credit cards, but Urbantopia does and I was so grateful! This place is awesome with groups! Came in here with a bridal party and the manager was more than accommodating. She had a congratulations sign outside and champagne and snacks inside waiting for us. All the nail technicians were fantastic and all our nails looked amazing. $35 dollars for a shellac manicure and $20 for a regular pedicure. It was worth every penny! I would suggest anyone to come here if looking for a great nail salon in downtown Portland or if you are looking for a fun thing to do with your girlfriends for a birthday or "before the wedding" nail appointment with your bridal party!
