I called on Wednesday around 11am to fit in a last minute, afternoon manicure and they got me right in. It was my first time and Michelle did my nails. I opted to upgrade to the manicure with additional services, but it didn't seem like anything more than an average manicure. She did a "mask" that seemed like it was more of a shower gel and she put hot towels on my hands and arms. Other than that, it was a standard manicure to me. The place is very clean, she offered me wine and I did not wait. Michelle did a great job and would go to her again. When all was said and done, I got a decent manicure and great shellac polish for $50. Update: my shellac manicure lasted nearly three weeks with just a few small chips on the last few days! I went back yesterday on my lunch and got a shellac polish change. I chose Michelle again because she obviously does a fantastic job. She put a lot of time and energy into my polish change, including re-prepping my nails for shellac. She is fantastic and my nails look great again. read more

This place was just okay. Definitely overpriced to pay $65 for a standard mani pedi with no bells and whistles. Not even a scrub. They told me on the phone it would be $55. Polish was out on a bit sloppy and thin in places and I had to ask her to redo it. Chairs were pretty uncomfortable. The location of this salon is super convenient for me as I work downtown. The owner and female employees are really wonderful to work with, I always had an enjoyable experience when they did my nails. The male employee though, did a terrible job on my nails. He talked about how good he was at his job, and how much care he put into his craft. Then he cut me at least four times on different fingers when cleaning my cuticles. He was very rough on me and was surprised when I started bleeding. He kept putting alcohol on me to sterilize, but it stung really bad and he kept trying it! It hurt and I was upset about it, and told him I would just come back later when I had scabs. He refused, insisting that it was fine. Instead of waiting for the bleeding to stop, he went ahead and painted my nails, contaminating the shellac color I chose. I was disgusted and have never wanted to walk out of a place so badly. My nails were damaged from gel and I needed to have a quick remedy. Decided manicure would be less damaging and fast. I called and were seated right away. Girl who did my nail was not the most talkative, but very focused and professional. She answered all my questions and made my hands pretty again. When I got up to leave I did not realize it takes half hour for the manicure to dry and ruined three nails while digging for my purse! It was my fault, but I was seated once again and nails were repainted. I sat patiently for half hour lest I ruin my nails again. Now my hands look pretty and I'm very happy with the service received. This place is amazing. Nothing but smiles from two of the sweetest aunties ever. Their service menu is loaded with awesome options, organic everything and even has a hot stone massages and collagen masks. I had the pleasure of going here for a surprise birthday gift. It was fabulous! These ladies put the pamper in pedicure, with an excellent message, a salt scrub, and hot towels. The were very friendly, talking with us and giving us color suggestions, but also letting us have our own conversations. This may sound strange to note, but I also appreciated that they only spoke english in front of us (though it was not their first language), even when they were talking to each other. I always feel strange when I am getting a pedicure and it seems like I am being made fun of in another language. read more

I wasn't all that impressed by this salon. The aesthetic is nice, the staff is lovely, but ultimately my mani just didn't look great. I got the shellac and my nails look like it needed an extra layer of paint. It's weird, in some spots the color is faded off? I get gel nails frequently back home (I was on a trip) and I've gone up to 4 week with no fading/chipping, so was disappointed these started looking bad in a matter of days. They were incredibly kind enough to get me in last second for an appointment, and once there I only had a drastically limited time to have my nails cleaned up before a last minute work shift. They had a few people helping so as to get me out on time. Ryan was the person to clean up my nails and have them looking absolutely astounding. I cannot stress enough how amazing he is. He knows what he is doing and is eager to make your nails healthy, gorgeous, and to make sure you are not only happy, but relaxed and newly in love with your nails again. I never write reviews. The BEST nail salon I've ever frequented, my go-to for the best manicure and pedicure! I live in the Pearl District and have been looking for a go-to nail salon for the longest time. From my very first visit, my experience at Urbantopia has been amazing. Cece (Cecilia) has done my nails from the start and is absolutely wonderful, a lovely person that cares about the quality of her work. I wanted a nice manicure to get my weekend started, instead I am about to head to urgent care with an infection in my finger. The "little" things: The nail tech, Cecilia, refused to do the detailed nail design I asked for because I also asked for an accent nail. She told me it wouldn't be pretty to have both. I figured this meant she didn't want to take the time as she had other walk-ins waiting and she already seemed distracted. Then she didn't have the accent color I had asked for. Whatever. It happens. I asked for just the design with no accent nail. Nope, she'd give me a cat-eye accent instead. This is the point I realized maybe she just couldn't do a cool design, even the simple thin lines I had asked for?? Next, I heard the woman next to me ask for a pineapple on her nail. The nail tech gave her so much pushback and even mocked her asking why she wanted a pineapple, before finally saying it was "too hard" so she should pick a different design. Then the nail tech told her that Cecilia could do a design on her nails, but she would have to wait until she was done with me. The original nail tech ended up attempting to do something that the woman pointed out the base color could be seen through. After the woman asked her to remove it since the pink shown through, the nail tech refused because shellac is hard to get off.. The woman ended up leaving totally dissatisfied. The kicker: Meanwhile, Cecila, who I assume had the most seniority in the salon, was so involved in everything else going on, she violently filed my nail so hard that it made me bleed and wince in pain!! She said sorry and felt really bad, but it made no sense for her to keep filing and filing on the sude of my nail. I was looking at my nail and wondering what the hell she was trying to file so hard. When I snatched my bleeding finger away in pain, she clearly didn't know what to do and just tried to squeeze my fingers. Then she brought over some blue liquid and startes to put some on it. I asked her what it was and she said "disinfectant", but I'd really like to have more information before someone throws something on a wound.. When I went to pay, the younger woman told me $25. I figured they were giving me a discount for wounding my hand, then Cecilia ways something to her and she tells me, "Oh, I mean 35..". Cool. The pain has continued to increase every couple of hours and I could barely sleep, with the pain now shooting down the side of my swollen pinky. So off to urgent care I go. ps My nails came out so boring that I added a design of my own when I got home. read more

If I could describe this establishment in one word I'd say it is fabulous! Sadly I live out of state but was in Portland for work and desperately needed my nails done. I walked in with no appointment and was greeted with friendly faces and promptly seated in a a wonderful massage chair. They are very knowledgable about polish and nail health and extremely clean. Due to the nature of my job I am very rough on my nails and even with shellac they only last a couple of weeks. I am going on three weeks and they look as good as when I had them done except my nails have grown out. I so wish I lived closer so they could become my regular nail salon! read more
