I've never gotten to-go here, but when you eat there, the portions are HUGE! And free drink or miso soup when you check in, always a plus. Decent amount of options to choose from. Plenty of seating inside. The only thing is I'm not too picky about quality of fish, because I've seemed to never had issues with fishyness or quality/taste when eating sushi/poke. So I can't really judge on that. Most other people seem to be happy though, so I assume they have good quality fish. read more

Well, after a few years of taking everyone I know here and ordering food for my company, I will be taking my business somewhere else. I collected over 20 reward stamps and today I went to redeem them. The cashier told me they would not honor the stamps because they switched over to an online rewards system over a year ago. That doesn't mean much to me since COVID put everything on shut down. There are a lot of places I haven't gone to in over a year. The cashier offered to call her manager, but the manager said they would only take $10 off my current purchase. That doesn't even cover the value of one complete reward card. The manager said that was the best they could do given the stamps "were over 5 years old." There is no fine print on the rewards card on when to redeem by. Otherwise, I would've redeemed the earlier cards first. I've collected a few full stamp cards over the years. I would order company lunches on Uroko when they were on Doordash/Postmates and even continued to order pick-up when they were no longer on those delivery platforms. I've brought a lot of people and orders to Uroko and I will take that elsewhere. read more

Just a typical poke place. I didn't think there was anything too special about it. I wasn't a huge fan of their sauces. It just tasted like a ton of ponzu sauce but a little more oily. They do give pretty big portions though. I just wasn't a huge fan of this place. read more

Uroko Poke - Japanese Near Me - Costa Mesa, California

I'd give this place a 3.5* based on the food during my first visit, but I'll bump it up to a 4* because I like everything else about it. Uroko is in a lot separate from Mitsuwa, so parking is not a problem. The cafe is spacious and has a restroom. Extra to-go containers, lids, utensils, napkins, and water cups are laid out nicely for customers to serve themselves. It works kind of like Chipotle or Pokinometry (in Anaheim). We stood in line, chose the size, type of rice, sides, protein, and sauce. Then everything was mixed together. We paid and then found a seat. I got a medium with brown rice, avocado, crab meat, masago, tuna, salmon, yellowtail, and furikake with medium sauce. The fish tasted good, but not as fresh as it would be if it wasn't laid out like that, but that's to be expected at these types of places. For fresher poke or fish, customers would be going to other types of restaurants. Everything was mixed well and I enjoyed most of the bowl except the brown rice. My whole group agreed that the rice was too hard, even for brown rice. My friend who has been there before says the brown rice isn't usually that hard, so we must've gotten a bad batch. About half of my bowl was filled with rice, so I didn't eat the bottom half. The level of spice is low. The medium barely had a hint of spice, and I don't usually eat spicy food. My friend got spicy and she said it wasn't spicy enough. I think there is an option for extra spicy that is not listed on the menu because we saw a separate bottle labeled extra spicy. Overall, the rice is the only part I didn't like. The prices are good; less than $10 for a poke bowl is not bad. If the rice is cooked better, I would be back. read more

If you like to be Nickel and dimed this is the perfect place. The food is good. But the options are severely limited because they charge you everything. If you want an all salmon Volcano Bowl they won't do it. They will charge you for three scoops of protein even though you got one scoop of salmon. Other poke places allow you customize your bowl as you please but not this one. The owner should reconsider the ridiculous policies regarding the sides. read more

Love the Chipotle-esque style of serving poke bowls. $10 will buy you immediate satisfaction! They prepare the bowl right in front of you -- just imagine getting something at Chipotle. Great fish portions and options for toppings. I always get a half-and-half white rice and salad medium bowl. It's $10 and always fills me up. If you get a chance, try the seaweed salad. It's light and cleanses the palette after binge eating the fried garlic chip toppings. Parking is in the rear, tucked away between the gas station and the plaza next door. Be attentitive when you turn the corner or you'll end up in the wrong parking lot. Highly recommend this place for a weekend lunch or an after-work treat. read more

The 2 stars is because of the pushy staff - at least when I came. No one asked if we had been there before. It wasnt obvious where the line started since half th restaurant looked closed off. We came around 9pm, but they were already prepping to close (even though they close at 10:30). We did not get any explanation of how their process works since every poke place is slightly different. I felt very rushed, and it was annoying to stay the least. The food was just OK. I thought it was kind of weird how when you order half salad (which is just spinach) half rice, they put the rice on top of the spinach -maybe its just my opinion. One of the reasons is because of the eels. Uroko is one of the only Poke places around the area with such good eels! Portion size could be a little better on the fish. As for the Matcha Boba....LOVE the purity in flavor - almost no sugar and very clean Matcha taste! The only drawback is the boba - you can clearly tell the boba is either low-quality or poorly made or both.... This is currently my favorite poke place. Insider tip. Get the medium order in the large bowl and you will have room to mix things or at least move stuff around. The prices are great and staff is super nice. They move you through the line really quickly provided the people ahead of you know what they are doing. They will give you extra sides of sauces so you can mix flavors to your liking. They do not skimp on the portions and will even add toppings at no cost that other will charge for(masago). My new office is much farther away so I can't easily get here. but If I still worked near by I would probably be there once a week. Parking can be a bear so be prepared. read more

In my opinion, I think Uroko is very overhyped. Let me explain. My biggest complaints are the portions and sauces. During my visit, I found the sauce to be incredibly salty and tiresome by the end of dinner. Uroko is also notorious for giving small rations of sides, meaning the rice or salad or whatever your choice may be. The scoop of rice I got was probably enough for a small, but I ordered a large. The ambience and environment is relatively welcoming. It's incredibly spacious and reminded me of a mall cafeteria due to its sheer size. However, this does mean there are usually plenty of places to sit available. Parking seemed okay, but I did go at night. The general consensus for Uroko Cafe seems to be one of those restaurants that you love or don't care for. I would come back if I was craving desperately and needed poke fast, but other than that, would not return. read more

It was my 2nd time coming here. I liked their selections and if you Check In you get a free soda! The flavored soda is limited because it's Stubborn Soda so they have unique flavors. They have free Miso soup after 4PM which is a plus! I liked the customer service they were friendly. I loved the Christmas piñatas that were hung. I tried the poke, and it was good. They have avocado as a option for toppings, so don't have to pay extra! Finally got around to trying the poke here for dinner one evening. Service was fast, and portions weren't small. - medium bowl (includes 3 scoops of protein) $10, half salad and half brown rice - 2 scoops salmon, 1 scoop yellowtail (I'll probably try eel next time) - all the sides: crabmeat, avocado, cucumber, white onions (loved that avocado is included without an extra charge like other places) - spicy miso sauce (mixed with original soy base sauce and sesame oil) - YUM! I really liked the sauce, I haven't had this type of sauce at any other place. I also asked for extra chili oil sauce. - all the toppings: green onions, masago, wasabi, cilantro, ginger, lime wedge, jalapeno, garlic chips, and dried seawood seasoning You get to bag your own bowl at the table by the soft drink fountain and utensils if you're ordering to-go. They have bottles of sriracha, soy sauce, etc there for you if you want to pack some more sauces to-go. Given that there are so many poke spots open,and are still popping up, in OC, I like that Uroko has the spicy miso sauce that I haven't seen elsewhere. read more

First time here...but won't be the last. I've had Poke once before and I'm not the biggest fan of raw fish, but this style is so far my favorite way to enjoy it. If you are also not really into sushi, or haven't had it, then Poke bowls maybe it. I think it's the perfect amount of fish compared to the rice & toppings, along with the fact that you can decide how much of everything you want in each bite. I prefer the Yellow Tale for the light taste & I was happy to see that they have Octopus here...they do boil it. I tried some of the Masago for the first time...it's tiny orange fish eggs that added a nice slightly crunchy salty taste. I add a few more things like green onions, garlic chips, sesame seeds, lime, and avocado...which is a must for me...to almost everything...lol! This week marks their 3 year anniversary...so through tomorrow, they're giving out big insulated bags with every $10 purchase! They also have a free drink Yelp deal with check in. Really interesting soda flavors here too...I chose the Lemon Berry Açaí which was delicious! And I also tried my boyfriends Pineapple Cream, which was also really good! I love this place but I have been disappointed lately with the way the fish is arranged. Shellfish should be totally separated from other types of fish (according to the health dept). They used to do this but now they have cooked and raw shrimp next to yellowtail. Unfortunately since I have a shellfish allergy I really can't go here anymore because I can't take a chance. If there are any cities in Orange County without a poke place now, I would be kinda surprised. This seems to be the trendy thing. Assembly line, build your own bowl poke places with varieties of bases, proteins, toppings, etc. Unlike traditional Hawaiian poke, there are so many things to put on the bottom of your bowl, ways to eat it, like put it in a taco, make it a wrap, which proteins to choose from, top it with a million things, etc. One of my Yelp buds and I have had a longstanding debate on the best poke place in Orange County with him having eaten at way more places that I have. He has been trying to tell me that Uroko Cafe was one of the best places out there for poke. I have been trying to convince him that my favorite place in South County was the best, so we decided to meet up here for lunch so he could prove me wrong. The place opens at 11 am for lunch daily. We got there just after opening and so glad that we did. The restaurant, itself, it really large, which is great. It has many booths and tables and chairs through the entire restaurant. By 11:30 a.m., the place was packed. I told my friend that it was good sign when i saw a bunch of cops walk in. Cops and fireman usually are indicators of good food, IMO. There were many options to start here to include rice, salad, chips or wrap. Based on the of small, medium or large, that dictates how many proteins you get to order. I went for a medium rice bowl for $10, which includes three proteins. I chose yellowtail, albacore and tuna as my proteins and started building. I like that Uroko offers many complimentary sides to include avocado (which most places charge for), crabmeat, cucumeber and white onion. I went for all of those. Hey, if they are free, WTH not?! I picked the Uroko Original, medium spicy as my sauce for the proteins. Next was the toppings. I proceeded with green onions, masago and garlic chips. Oh, the garlic chips. I do love garlic, but man, these garlic chips were like totally strong. I could ward off vampires for miles after eating this bowl. They were good, but if you do not like strong garlic, I would definitely advise against these. It kinda overpowered my entire bowl a bit, also as far as flavor. Fish was very fresh here. I hate smelling or tasting really fishy fish, as that usually is a bad sign that the fish is not very fresh. Not the case here. The fish was top notch. Service was fast and efficient and friendly here. This large cafe was totally packed by noon but they got people through the line very quickly and kept is moving. I gotta admit my friend was right. This place is very good. I would definitely come back here for another round of poke goodness. read more
