Almost every time I've been to this restaurant it's been a great experience, the food is amazing, the owner Paul is awesome and a very genuine person. You can tell he wants you to enjoy your meal. However, this past Valentine's Day I had a very poor experience with the server. We were sat well after the rush hour and it took us 30-40 minutes to get our drinks and over an hour to get our dinner even while other tables around us were having no delays. He barely came to check on us and I didn't even see him waiting on other tables. This was extremely frustrating but I don't believe this was a reflection on the restaurant itself. read more

We do "fine dining" in Pensacola at least once a month, usually in conjunction with a symphony or opera performance; but also just for the heck of it, tending to alternate between Global Grille and VPaul's -- neighbors on Palafox Place. It was VPaul's turn last night, and we conclude, after two meals at each over the past three months, that it offers a better overall dining experience than Global Grille. Global's menu arguably is more adventurous, but VPaul's leads overall by a nose by virtue of its more spacious and quieter environment. On the food side, don't miss VPaul's 4-Cheese Ravioli with Vodka Sauce, and the Crabmeat upgrade - top class! Our only criticism is that the pasta dishes are 'way oversize: fine if you're going home after the meal, but a real guilt trip if taking a doggy bag back to the car will be a pain. read more

My husband and I eat Italian whenever we can. We decided to give the Paul's a chance. The bread and the Caesar salad were extraordinary! Had to be in the top three of any restaurant I've ever eaten at. My glass of Pinot noir was great but my husband's makers mark was water down. The appetizer of the fried artichoke hearts was also extremely tasty! Now for the entrées... I ordered veal piccata, which is just listed as piccata on the menu. There is no pricing for either chicken or veal piccata. I guess they like to surprise you when you receive your check. The veal itself was very well cooked with a Panko crust, but there was no lemon butter sauce on either it or the pasta. I could not eat the pasta because it was dry. my husband ordered the Sausage Diablo dish and it had very little spice or flavor to it. Overall, we were not very satisfied with the meal. I believe it was just the dish that we ordered for my husband. I asked the waitress about the lack of the lemon butter sauce, and she said she could've brought me some on the side. I've never heard of veal or chicken piccata being served with sauce on the side. Great atmosphere, great bread and salad, but order different entrées. read more

Three times I had servers come to our table asking "did you order...." to only then watch them go to not one more two more tables until they found the right table". Our appetizer arrived after the first course. My empty wine glass was taken without so much as an offer for another glass -- and my entrée had not yet arrived. The entree was swimming in some kind of watery sauce that would have made anyone in Rome scream! Disappointing! If you are reading this, I'd try another place. Why be disappointed? read more

I recently went to V Paul's when we last had a Gallery Night. The atmosphere inside is fairly modern, yet cozy. I was sat at the table by the window, which was perfect, considering how big the windows are. The server we had (I wish I would have remembered his name!) was SO nice, I couldn't ask for any better probably. Food wise, it's really tasty. However, I was not really impressed at the same time. I suppose I expected a bit more considering the price of it. You do somewhat pay for the atmosphere and view I guess. I can see myself possibly wanting to return again though. I'd probably get both of them again, but I'd definitely get the scallops again. They were cooked perfectly and the risotto was very tasty. Service: I ate there on a Wednesday night. We had a great server, apps were delicious, main courses were even better. We came early with a party of 5 plus a baby and it worked out well. Food came out quick and fresh. The seafood is really good and the pasta equally delectable. They had good drink specials and the wine was terrific. Great selection of wine. We also order scallops and they were very tasty but we felt they were a little over priced but I would still order again. Over all experience was wonderful and would come here any time. Menu is done well and the servers know it and can explain just about he entire menu and have it made to your liking if you have any allergies (gluten free options and switching out/adding items can be done) suggestion for the chef... please make the cannolis bigger!! We arrived when they opened for dinner, 4:30 p.m., and we had great service from our waiter Topher. This is an excellent restaurant with good food and good service. My wife and I don't eat meat, but the menu had good options for us. We ordered the fresh vegetables, capellini pasta, with roasted garlic olive oil. We also each ordered a house salad. Our wine choices were glasses of Gabbiano Classico Chianti (me) and Condo Sur Biciciets Chardonnay from Chile (her). I recommend this restaurant for a lovely, comfortable place for dinner. Second experience tonight. I would always recommend giving a restaurant a second chance so tonight I did. Party of 4, slow service is the start.I get letting guest enjoy your dining experience yet. This was beyond the typical. Item ordered was Chicken Picatta, Chicken Parmesan, Chicken Marsala, Eggplant Parmesan and a Tuna Appetizers. Okay let's say there was the same 3 style chicken breast used in the entree. Picatta was served over potatoes that usually come in an omelet. Other items was served on Chef Boyardee style spaghetti. I came in to have the Tuesday special half off lasagne as I have many times before but tonight as I was waiting on my food I saw the owner of the store yelling and cursing at the bartender. I have always enjoyed coming here but I will not give my business to someone who can't treat their staff with respect. It seemed as if he did not care who heard him yelling at this employee as another table sitting next to me was also watching in disgust of the language. I really want to like V. Paul's more than 3 starts, but I've got to be honest and say that it just hasn't been overwhelming the half dozen times I've been. The location and ambiance are about the best things about the place. The drinks are a close second. But unfortunately, coming in last, are the food and service. They do take reservations through OpenTable, so I do like that feature. My last visit there was with a group of friends, about 10 of us total. I was able to get reservations for us on a Saturday night. It wasn't incredibly busy or packed. The bar was empty enough for all 10 of us to stand around and have drinks before being seated. Our server was new and uneasy, so we took it easy on her. She was polite, nice, and overly apologetic when she'd forget to bring drinks we ordered or refill water glasses. When our entree's arrived, they only brought food for 1/2 the table. The other half of us had to wait about 10 minutes for the rest of the food to arrive. It was awkward and ill-timed. We had to reassure the half that had food to go ahead and eat it, so it wouldn't get cold, while the rest of us looked on in envy. My steak was cooked well, but it was fatty and gristly. Most everyone else's food was cooked well, but no one was raving about flavor or taste. We also ordered dessert. My cannoli was lacking much flavor and my friend's creme brule was as he said "alright". Maybe we were just there on a bad night, but it was just underwhelming for us. read more

For the price, I expected more. Service is acceptable - the server was nice and personable, but when an issue arose, he seemed like he's never done this before. I waited about 10 minutes for a table, and the bartender offered us food, but was unable to answer any questions I had about the menu. Understandable for a new restaurant. Overall, this place is more about the pizazz and appearance and less about the food. It might impress a "newbie foodie" or relatives from out of town who don't eat out much. read more

My fiancé and I went there for an early Valentine's date, and we were both thoroughly impressed. The waiter was extremely friendly and informative. He made sure that we were done with our appetizer before the entrees came out (which is nice since I've had that problem at other restaurants before and the table can get so crowded) and stopped by to check on us enough that we felt taken care of but not hovered over. The food and drinks were fantastic. We split an cheese and smoked meat appetizers, and it was very tasty and elegantly presented. I had the seafood pasta and my fiancé had the fish of the day (it was swordfish that night), and they were both spot on as were the wine pairings. The tiramisu was extremely good, and definitely big enough to split between two people after a good meal. All in all, we definitely plan to go again for another date night. read more

The place was somewhat busy on a Saturday night, including a private party. But the place was not packed. 45 minutes passed between receiving our appetizer and getting our main course even though both were ordered at the same time. The server even told us that the food was taking a while because the kitchen was focused on the private parties and getting their food out first. Secondly, 3/4 of the entrees we ordered tasted good. However, the seafood dish was pretty terrible. It was Cobia, and it was so dry and chewy that nobody at the table wanted to eat it. We were at the restaurant for almost two hours due to poor service. The calamari was a tad salty, but everyone's tastes are a smidge different. But it was cooked perfectly! I also got the linguine & clams - it was PERFECT! I was literally so happy when I tasted it.
