Completely untrustworthy and dishonest. After an incident of fraud I went to Meineke in Fairfield (94 Kings Highway East) and they confirmed that Valvoline had not changed my oil filter and that my car's fluids did not need topping off. The only issue with Meineke is that you need an appointment for an oil change and that it can take up to an hour to complete (they inspect the car as part of the service). Avoid Valvoline. read more

These guys are amazing? Completed my oil change and changed a headlight bulb for me-needed another bulb, went back the next day and watched them open 20 boxes delivered to find one bulb! Went for a synthetic oil change. Of course like all other reviews say...you get harassed to buy other things/ parts for your car. Even if you tell them multiple times just a lil change. I used a Groupon for this purchase. When it was time to pay the man helping me scanned my code. He then told me I owed tax, which I understood. I asked the man how much the tax was and he told me $74. I asked if he could check that again because I had just paid $69 for my Groupon which would total a $143 oil change. He looked at me and said you need to pay the $74 it's the tax and handed me the pin pad for my card. When I questioned him again he got rude with me and told me that's what it was. It took me having to ask for a manager for him to charge me $7.40 for tax, which I gladly paid to get the heck out of there. Never again! read more

Stay far, FAR FAR, away from this place. First I went to get my oil done on August 12th. I drive a suburban and paid $127 (after giving them an online discount after they made it a hassle to give me the military discount since I'm retired and not active) which is expensive. Three days later after not driving my vehicle during the visit, my vehicle told me that my oil was low but it still showed 100% since we reset the sensor. So the 21st comes around and the alert reappeared again as I this is not my daily driver and weekend car. I then check the dip stick and it is bone dry. There are no leaks under my parking area as well. I then call and the manager has me come in the same day. He looks under and then asks if I seen any leaks and as I stated no I asked him if he saw any leaks under the vehicle and he stated no. They checked the level and saw that it was empty as well and refilled the oil. This time when they showed me, I physically touched the stick to ensure there was oil on it since you can barely see it. Every two days after I checked the oil and it now shows filled. In the end, they do rush the "customer oil verification" part since they are trying to sell you many other things. Just stay away from them. Definitely overpriced and will hassle you with the coupon/discount as if it's coming directly from their pockets. read more

They accidentally let a customer go ahead of me, which was fine, but didn't own up to their mistake, and then lied and said they warned me that perhaps they wouldn't get to me. When I complained online, they said that's what my car requires, which is an outright lie. They filled the car with their highest profit product, without my permission, knowing I had no choice afterward- what am I going to do? Have them put the old oil back in? It's really unfortunate that their business model has not changed for years, it could be a more pleasant experience - but it's not. I cringe every time I go, but my alternatives are worse - typically more expensive dealerships or multi hour waits at an independent repair shop. The prices have gotten to a point that it is quite ridiculous, over $60 for a basic conventional oil change. Synthetic oil can exceed $100. The ENTIRE time you are there, you are pitched for additional services ... AC charge, other fluid changes, wipers, filters. It's quite uncomfortable, even when I tell them - JUST an oil change (I assume the workers get bonuses for each additional sale). And after each visit I have to go home pop the hood and make sure all caps are screwed on correctly and clean up all the oil marks and spills - if that's all they do, can't they be more careful and less sloppy? read more

WILL ACTIVELY RIP YOU OFF, SLIMEY and EXTREMELY HOMOPHOBIC. I came in for an oil change, and wow, what an absolute nightmare of an experience I had. The manager Benjamin was incredibly rude and condescending the entire time I was talking to him. The staff there was untrained and completely incompetent. Before working on my car, the "certified technician" said out loud, "I've never worked on a Subaru before," before completely botching a simple oil change. I drove out of there having no idea that they didn't even change my oil. My car then began to stall and sputter. I had to get an emergency diognostic at Dan Perkins, as I was too far away to go back to vavoline. I legitimately thought my car was going to break down. Welp, it turns out that when vavoline changed my oil, they hadn't done it properly at all. I collected evidence that vavoline was responsible for my car problems. I brought them the evidence, requested a refund, and was greeted by their manager Benjamin not only denying my refund, but being incredibly rude and disrespectful the entire time to both me and my husband, even laughing hysterically at us after finding out that we we're married. I was not only completly robbed, loosing over 260 dollars over a simple oil change, but I was humiliated and seriously dehumanized on top of everything. I reported Benjamin to customer service and they didn't care. They just told me that he wasnt usually like this, and that no disciplinary action was going to happen. I've never had such a horrible experience at any establishment in my entire life. Not only did this group of homophobic thugs rob me, but they also humiliated and laughed at me afterwards. In for an oil change , the tech told her she needs synthetic for her 2011 Malibu ( it does not ) , she called me to ask, I told her to tell the tech the car does not need synthetic ( it does not ) they then told her she would ruin her engine if she used non synthetic ( it won't ) and they charger her $106 for her 4 cylinder ( I usually pay 60-70 for my 8 cylinder) Beware, they are stealing from kids... slimy and dishonest or ignorant and misinformed.... On a few cars I've needed things like transmission fluid and batteries and the guys at Valvoline can't be beat. Went there eight weeks or so ago for an oil change when my usual shop was too busy to take my truck. Two weeks later all the lights on my dashboard came on as I exited I-95 in Fairfield telling me to turn the engine off immediately to avoid serious damage. Fortunately I was just a couple hundred yards from my usual shop (Fairfield Auto & Truck) so I went there immediately. They ascertained that not only had the oil never been changed (it was filthy), but that two of the eight quarts had been bled off...resulting in the indicators coming on to warn of low oil pressure. So I had to pay for another complete oil change. When I asked my guys if I have any recourse they said, "Forget it. They hire minimum wage people with little to no experience to work on people's cars and will never admit to doing anything wrong. Just don't ever go back. Better to run on old oil for a few extra days than to trust your car to a bunch of hacks." I couldn't agree more. read more

They charged me $130 for synthetic oil change which supposed to last at least 6000 miles and another $20 for "extra oil" and then gave me a sticker to come back in 3000 miles which is regular oil change. Oil change was fine but very aggressive attempts to upsell me on lots of other services I didn't need. When I told them that I was all set on everything else , they got kind of nasty and aggressive. Talking to each other in loud voices about me and saying things suggesting I was cheap. They must be under huge pressure to upsell and it showed in their attitude. I came in for an oil change. Not my first time here. I know it usually costs around 120$ max. Today I was told I needed an AC refill. The guy made it seem like it was something simple like refilling the rest of the fluids during an oil change, per usual. I'm not car savvy and should have inquired further about cost and what that means exactly. I'm a young female and I feel my lack of car knowledge was apparent and taken advantage of. Once he was almost done I asked to pay so I could be all set once they were done. I was informed my total was 380$. Completely shocked I asked for a breakdown. I was then informed an ac refill costs 160$+ and he also conducted some sort of oil flush for 100$ that i was never told about or gave permission for. I was not expecting to pay this much at all. I politely told the manager what happened and he offered a $30 discount which was nice of him but it still wasn't enough. I feel the mechanic should have never up sold anything or done the work without fully disclosing the cost of the AC refill. More importantly I couldn't believe an extra $100 service I never asked for was added. Came in expecting to pay $120 and now my total is $300+. Just not ok. I understand the work was done to my vehicle but I feel I was cheated into it. Would have appreciated better communication. I definitely learned the hard way going forward, I will ask prices for everything and be completely on top of the mechanic every step during an oil change to ensure nothing I'm not aware of is being done in order for this to never happen again. read more

I've always felt like there's some sort of negative stigma attached to oil change places that made me steer clear of them until today. My experience at this Valvoline changed that. Immediately after pulling into the bay, Anthony approached the driver's side window and proceeded to provide me with hands dowm the best customer service I have ever received. He was down to earth, friendly, and very knowledgeable. He completed all of the "safety checks", asked me how my day was going, and made some excellent recommendations about what service would be best for me - he also took the initiative and asked about my windshield wipers, which I have been meaning to replace for weeks now. The rest of the guys on the team here were awesome as well: everyone was quick, efficient, and very friendly, but I am serious when I say that Anthony went above and beyone. I am into rally racing, and while the credit card was being processed we started talking about racing and how he is eager to become a part of the Valvoline Nascar team. Scam? You decide I ask my wife to bring our 2006 Volvo XC70 for CONVENTIONAL oil change. She walks down the street to TJ Maxx to shop while they do the work. She returns to a $90 bill and was told synthetic was REQUIRED per Volvo, which is not the case per the owners manual. Per a Volvo tech I know, sythetic oil in higher mileage engines (like mine) can lead to leaks as synthetic is thinner, and it is "not recommended" to go from synthetic to conventional oil. So I am screwed by Valvoline with the potential for oil leaks and committed to synthetic for the life of the car. I wonder if being a woman had anything at all to do with this..... read more

You'd probably be better off changing your own oil than bringing your vehicle here. Even if you have no clue what you're doing, I guarantee you that you'll still do a better job at it (and it'll cost you less). Not only did I lose all the oil in my car because these morons didn't secure the plug, they also over-inflated my tires which made it necessary for me to have them re-balanced along with an alignment. OMG where do I start? I have a company car. I had a 20K service done there last week. $252 for everything. I'm not even complaining about the price, but that's not cheap. It took about an hour. So much for "instant". But they did do a lot of stuff. Oil change, air filters changed, new wipers, tire rotation. When they were done they said they'd send me a receipt via e-mail so they didn't print one out. They didn't send me a receipt. The guy must have input my e-mail incorrectly. I called to ask for him to resend me the receipt, he said, "we can't, but you can come in and get it". I live 15 miles away, I told him that would be very inconvenient. He said he had no way of transmitting it, but he could print it. I said, please print it, take a picture of it with your phone and text it to me. He said, OK, reluctantly and then didn't. Lots of phony smiles here but unwilling to do anything extra. For $252 they should have made a tiny extra effort. I will not be going back. read more

You have to watch them carefully. A few times, after the end of the service, when they hand you a checklist of all the services they "supposedly" did, i.e check the tires, washer fluid, etc. , they never actually do the service. 99% of the time they never do any of the other services, then when you call them out on it, they get super defensive and claim that it's the first time. I went to this Valvoline after the Bridgeport one put a sticker on the window with the wrong oil and then changed the oil only after I had a discussion with the manager. The additional services they wanted to do shameless. I will be going to Walmart or Splash to get my oil changed the service is not that great, but they charge half the price. read more
