Casual authentic Vietnamese restaurant. The prices are reasonable and the food is good. I love the huge plate of fresh veggies they gave us and how crispy the sweet potato fritters were.

Love their variety of Vietnamese offerings, especially Banh Xeo, rice dishes and Bun Rieu. They also sell to-go dishes at very cheap prices. Staff were attentive and food came quickly. Ambiance is casual with loud environment as many locals love this place. Plenty of parking spots upfront. Highly recommended.

Been going here with the Phamily for more than a decade now! This place was one of the first places I ever reviewed when I started Yelping 10+ years ago. This spot never misses and they definitely deserve their flowers and more. All of the staff here are always friendly and welcoming. Van's Restaurant is a staple in the Little Saigon community and widely regarded as the best banh xeo spot in OC and beyond. Van's Restaurant is Viet gang approved for life!

Still authentic, still low price, and super quick service for a sit down dining venue. Those Latinos are coming back. Bánh Xèo & bánh tôm Cổ Ngư. We tried egg rolls and Bún Bò Huế. Egg rolls are chả giò rế. Really good. Bún Bò Huế has all the ingredients. Solid diner.

The staff and the owners are very nice and fast with orders. The restaurant is clean and well maintained. My family has been going here for 20+ years. The quality is still the same for all food items. Banh xeo is very affordable. They did not increase the price much but reduced some meat and shrimps instead which is totally acceptable. The fish sauce and the vegetables are always fresh and tasty. We also love their banh chung and banh tet. Curry is also good for the price. If you like fresh nem with garlic and rau ram, you must try this here. It's very tasty and not too overwhelming.

Solid no frills place and perfect for a rainy day. Quick service and Loved the bun Bo hue and asian mom approved! There is a large parking lot so easy to find parking but fair warning it can get a bit hectic.

"Restaurant will be closed from March 4, 2026 to March 18, for remodeling. Will resume on March 19, 2026."

Still my fav place for banh xeo since the 90s, and the prices are decent. They closed temporary to remodel in March. Curious ro see how it will look like after 3/19/26. We plan to go here for sure.

I know the restaurant owner, they used to bring food to my house when they only had a home kitchen, I was happy for them when they bought this restaurant. I rate them 4 stars for their low price n only one of 2 restaurants left still grilling the pork in bun cha Hanoi. Today was a one off they gave me cold n old food had I not checked I would be very mad. They made a good flan, it has caramel 100% of the other restaurants put coffee or vanilla as caramel is a hassle to make I know bc I used to cook the sugar into the caramel. Their #1 specialty is the banh xeo, pancakes w pork n shrimp, they are from Hanoi so their cooking is authentic North Vietnamese cuisine as reflected in the bun cha Hanoi. Their banh tom was also delicious. They trained their Guatemalan servers to speak Vietnamese it's hilarious. Come here so you wont have to take a 2nd mortgage just to have dinner!

Excellent, delicious Vietnamese foods and cheap price. Parking can be difficult at times. One of the most popular and original Vietnamese restaurant in Orange County.

AFFORDABLE EATS IN OC!! Each dish was about $10, with big portions. We got the thap cam (special) banh xeo, and bun rieu. Bun rieu broth was super good, wish they had more meatballs in their broth though (8.5/10). The banh xeo is their specialty, and it's huge and crispy (9/10). Their special was just okay, but it was nice experiencing their different flavors (7.5/10). Service was super quick, there is no waitlist though.

We found out about Van's restaurant purely through word of mouth, and sometimes those are the absolute best discoveries. When we got there, the place was buzzing with locals casually chatting with the owner, creating such a welcoming and friendly vibe. The highlight for us was their signature dish, Banh Xeo. This delicious treat is a large, crispy, thin crepe filled with shrimp, pork, mashed mung beans, sautéed onions, and fresh bean sprouts.....but, the real fun is in how you eat it! We also tried the Bun Rieu, a tomato-based crab broth noodle soup with fried pork and tofu. Every bite and slurp was incredibly comforting, making it an absolute must-try. With so many other selections on the menu, we're already planning our next visit this best kept secret Garden Grove has to offer. If you're looking for a place to enjoy incredible Vietnamese comfort food with reasonable prices, Van's is certainly worth a visit!

Banh xeo

Honestly you cannot beat the prices!! I guess you can say this place is whole in the wall due to outdated chairs / tables and lack of a great environment to eat in, but honestly, it's a great bang for your buck. All the entrées are such great pricing and if you are craving banh xeo, it's literally only $8-$9!! you cannot find these prices anywhere else. The banh xeo were so fresh and crispy, and the veggies were crunchy.! Service is what is typically expected at these type of establishments, but you know they get their job done lol

Banh Xeo aka Vietnamese Crepe Cha Lua aka Pork Meatloaf Banh Flan aka Vietnamese Flan
Angela H.

I absolutely love this old school mom and pop Vietnamese restaurant for banh xeo aka Vietnamese crepe. Everytime I'm in the area I got to stop by and get one to go so I can airfry it the next day for my meal. The banh xeo here is huge and super crispy. It's filled with shrimp, pork, mung bean, onions and beansprout. It also comes with a lot of fresh veggies. This restaurant also has a lot of ready made items that is available for you to grab and go. I got their cha lua aka pork meatloaf which I love. I decided to try their flan and it was great. It was perfectly smooth and had a nice coffee caramel finish to it. The prices are great and you will definitely get the most bang for your buck at this place.

Good Vietnamese pancake but the veggies need to be cleaned and more of. Otherwise it may be enough to wrap the pancake

Have been to this restaurant many times, and food is always consistent! Came visit to the restaurant last week, and ordered my favorite Grilled Escargot with Garlic Butter and Peppercorn, Grilled Scallops with Cheese, and my all-time favorite Chilean Sea Bass hot pot! The grilled escargots are a must-have when visiting this place! These are perfectly grilled with rich garlic butter for sweetness, and with a slight kick of spiciness from the peppercorn. Don't forget to also dip the escargot meat with black pepper and a few squeeze of fresh lime juice! If you like melted cheese, then the grilled scallops with cheese would be the perfect match. Each scallop is covered melted cheese and comes sizzling on a hot plate when ordered! Last but certainly not least, my favorite dish of this restaurant is the Chilean Sea Bass hot pot. The order comes with your own tabletop gas stove, along with a hot pot filled with a tom yum like sour soup base. For ingredients, it also includes a plate with slices of pineapple, quarter cut fresh tomato slices, fresh bean sprouts, rice noodles, and a full plate of large pieces of Chilean Sea Bass. Just put all the ingredients in the hot pot and let it cook for 5-10mins on high, I promise you it is one of the best soups you will ever have! Service is good as always. This place always seems to be busy, so you may have to be on the waitlist during certain business hours (eg holidays, prime dinner time, etc). Parking wise, the restaurant is located in a busy plaza, and so you may have to drive around a few times before finding an open spot. However as I said earlier, it's worth the wait. Highly recommended.

This Vietnamese fusion seafood restaurant specializes in fresh seafood and hot pots. We started with the razor clams, which were the standout of the meal. They were incredibly flavorful and paired with a delicious sauce that had us wanting every last bite. The spicy scallops were another solid choice with just the right amount of heat. The escargot was a little chewy, but the savory sauce made up for it. For our main dishes, we ordered the Tom Yum seafood hot pot, which was just okay. We also had the deep-fried tilapia, which was cooked perfectly--crispy on the outside. It's hard to go wrong with anything deep-fried here. Overall, the razor clams and deep-fried tilapia were the highlights of our meal. If you're willing to wait for a table, this is a good spot for fresh seafood with a few standout dishe

The pork patties were my favorite, and although there were plenty of the grilled pork, many of them were pieces with a lot of fat. That was my only gripe about it. Now about the hu tieu, which came with all the delicious bbq pork, shrimp, shredded chicken, fried garlic and onions, lightly dressed in an oh so delicious sauce. For me, the sauce was actually the star. Mix everything together and get yourself one delicious bite, filled with so much flavor. It comes served piping HOT so be careful! We also had the bun cha ha noi which is a very traditional Northern Vietnamese Nanoi dish. It has grilled pork patties and pork belly in a sweet savory fish sauce served with fresh herbs and cold rice vermicelli. You pretty much eat it by wrapping it with the lettuce or dip your noodles into the sauce. Very authentic and delicious without being overly heavy. There isn't much service here since they seem to be super short staffed but they do have delicious authentic Northern Vietnamese food so we absolutely will be back again!

Be prepared: this place is incredibly popular, especially during peak hours. Parking can definitely be challenging because of how busy it is. The last time I visited on a Monday, the lot was completely full, and I ended up parking on the street. The restaurant is also primarily cash only, so come prepared. They open early, making it a perfect breakfast spot for an early bowl of pho. The pho broth is exactly what I want when I'm craving comfort food--clean, flavorful, and incredibly soothing. However, the star of the meal for me was the chả giò. Wow. Although they arrived after our pho, they came out at the perfect temperature. I was hesitant to take a bite right away because freshly fried food usually burns my mouth, but these were just right. Crispy, airy, savory, and absolutely delicious. Paired with their fish sauce, it was perfection. I enjoyed the egg rolls so much that next time I'm definitely ordering the egg roll vermicelli bowl. Service was friendly and prompt despite how busy it was, and it's clear the staff works hard to keep things moving. One thing I love is seeing all of the awards and accolades displayed on the walls. Phở 79 received the prestigious James Beard America's Classics Award, and it's easy to understand why after one meal here. This restaurant is truly an Orange County icon. The restaurant will soon be moving to a new location, as signs throughout the restaurant announce the upcoming move. While I'll miss the original spot, I'm excited for the new space--hopefully with more parking! Some places are worth the wait, and Phở 79 is absolutely one of them.
