My husband and I just moved down down the street from this place so we stopped in for lunch on a weekend. We shared a tofu scramble and a falafel burger. The scramble was very tasty the burger was OK but not the best, kind of on the dry side. The service was quick but not overly friendly even though there were only 2 other tables eating at the time. We both liked the casualness of the restaurant and that it was upstairs because there were lots of windows and light. I would give this place another try since it's so close to my house. Update: I tried Veg a couple more times but I don't love their menu and they don't change it. I do like the buffalo cauliflower - the sauce is very tasty but I am really bummed that they don't even make a house made veggie burger. It's a Veg restaurant that serves the Impossible Burger, which is a pet-peeve of mine b/c I can buy that processed "frozen" nastiness at any store and they even serve it at Burger King and Carl's Jr now. It feels like you went to your hipster friend's home downtown and decided to have a meal next to their second-story window. The staff is friendly and kind. This place is so good it reversed my mood from being stuck in traffic so bad it took us 4 hours to go from San Jose to Sacramento which was just a dinner stop on our way to Lake Tahoe... Falafel Burger - delicious. I eat a lot of falafel and this burger contained one of the best falafels I've ever had. The chutney they used for the sauce gave it an excellent finish. Summer Crepe - this was light and full of delicious sautéed vegetables. Sooo good. My sister thought the garlic was a little too intense, but I didn't mind it. 20 dollars for a burrito about the size of a bean burrito at at taco bell. I didn't mind waiting an extra 20 minutes past when my order was supposed to be ready, as the staff here are very nice people. But when the burrito came, open on both sides, with a random curry sauce and chili sauce on the side, and about 1/4 as full as the burrito could have been based on the size of the tortilla, I was very disappointed. This is not the first time I've noticed that certain dishes here are vastly overpriced compared to the portion they give. Which is strange, because some dishes are cheaper and MUCH larger for no apparent reason. Be careful what you order here if you are hungry. read more

Sooo I've never been to a vegan restaurant, let alone ever purposely eaten vegan, but I have to say I was rather impressed. After doing a few hot laps around the restaurant to find parking during the midtown lunch hours I finally found a place a block away and casually strolled over to await my lunch date near the front door. The green front door led to a set of stairs and upon alighting on the landing we were greeted with a cozy little place with a bar to the left with some draft beers and seating to the right and a sign asking us to seat ourselves immediately in front of us. There were two vacant tables among the lunch crowd of mostly women, several of whom curiously watched us choose our table. Our waitress, Chelsea, came by and welcomed us and gave us the scoop. She was really cool and a very pleasant young woman. I asked about their teas and she made several suggestions and I opted for a blue ice tea (can't recall the name). My date gave her drink order and Chelsea flitted off. When she came back with our drinks we ordered. My friend ordered the vegan burger and I ordered a beet dish, I think I kinda shocked everyone by not going with the burger lol. The food arrived and both plates looked amazing! The burger looked just like a burger you'd find in an omnivore restaurant complete with all the fixings and potato wedges for fries. My beets were laid out on four little crispy slices of bread with a super yummy sauce under them and micro greens and a vegan caviar on top. As we enjoyed our food and chatted the place slowly emptied out until we were the last table. Not once did the staff try to hurry us like someplaces do during the afternoon lull When we were done eating Chelsea brought the bill and chatted with us a little more. We came to this cute little restaurant on date night, which also happened to be world meatless day (one of the more meaningful "food days"). We had the falafel burger, sloppy jack (which has jackfruit) and mixed pakora. The patties were moist, flavorful with a hint of grilling. The pesto sauce and pickled carrot provided additional texture. I was so sad when Nido closed because i was in love with their nut burger, but I think i found my new favorite vegetarian burger joint. I wish I had taken a picture of it because the presentation was beautiful, but it looked so good I had to dive right in. It certainly exceeded my expectations. Veg I want to love you, I really really do. Like I totally dig the environment which is warm and welcoming and the staff is very nice and helpful. The food looks lovely and but is a bit of a steep price, which is fine since vegans don't have ton of options when it comes to fancy eating here in Sacramento. My boyfriend and I came to Veg for his birthday, it had been a long time since we've had it. Honestly we were both excited to go again. Eating out for me can be hard, I have a soy allergy and I had hoped that my only options weren't going to be a Beyond product or a Salad. However everything is lousy with soy and my only options were salad or a Beyond burger which for me was a big let down. We ordered blue butterfly iced teas which were amazing, a basket of fries to share (so good!), And my boyfriend ordered the house burger which he was pretty keen on. My options were either a Caesar Salad, a Beyond burger, or to have pretty much the most important flavor or texture components removed from something else on the menu. I went with the Cesar and I'll be honest I feel like I paid $14.50 for lightly seasoned Romaine hearts and croutons. I could only eat about of a quarter of it before getting bored, I let my boyfriend try it and he wasn't impressed either. Thank God for the fries or I would have had next to nothing to eat. For others without this allergy I'm sure you'll have a Fantastic time. If you do have a soy allergy like me, maybe skip out on this place since you can get Beyond burgers and Salads literally anywhere else and it'll probably cost less. :) read more
