The hubby and I are always down to try new vegan places and this place had such high ratings we knew we had to go! It's a cozy, homey little place, and most of the people we saw in there looked like local regulars. I had the chick'n tenders curry with dandelion leaf and root hot tea, the hubby had the spicy miso ramen and our friend had the meatless hamburger steak curry. While we thought everything was tasty, we can't say it blew our socks off. I was actually surprised to see that the chick'n tenders and the meatless hamburger steak on top of our curries were the frozen Gardein variety mock meats. Not that that's bad, but I guess I was expecting all their stuff to be made in-house. The curry sauce, however, tasted homemade and was very good. The service, too, while a bit slow (I know there's only two people working here), was extremely friendly. All things considered it was a pleasant visit and we thought it was a solid vegan joint. Mind blown. Obviously when you stop eating meat, there are going to be certain flavors and textures that you miss. VegiLicious has done an amazing job of replicating those. We had a great experience here last night for dinner - the food, the service and the ambiance, everything was superb! The service was outstanding. The lady who takes our orders and brings out the food is one of the 2 owners. She's super nice and always smiling. Makes you feel welcome. The food was amazing. I love that it's all 100% organic and that they clearly state that they don't use MSG, GMOs or bad oils. And you can tell because everything tasted super clean and flavorful. I love how they make all their stuff inside, including the meatless beef patties and ground meat made out of soy. I had the ramen with gluten free noodles, hubby had one of the curries and both were delish. Also loved the super clean and yummy tasting steamed veggies as a starter with an amazing sauce. Being a vegetarian I am always looking for good veggie/vegan places and thank god I came across this place. The owners/hosts are super warm and genuinely want you to have healthy food. Do you remember that time you sat down for a meal and it was so good that it leaves you thinking about it all day. Well that just happened. I've walked by this place a few times and though I'm not vegan I do appreciate a good bowl of Ramen. Their sign out front has their ramen noodles on it so definitely got my attention. I'm in love Wow. So flipping good. Ramen noodles are perfectly cooked. The flavor is just wonderful. My dog Sophie who joined me on their comfortable patio even enjoyed the noodles. 5 stars. I love this small restaurant run by a lovely couple, Ana and Akira. They're only doing take out for a couple of hours a day right now (check their website for the back story on this). The Kobe Beef bowl and Miso ramen are my favorites right now, but I'm still working my way through their menu. I understand the others Yelpers' comments about the cost, but I feel like their prices are very fair for the quality of organic food that they serve. As a part time vegan--pescatarian the other half--I enjoy a plant-based diet. In Long Beach, we have several wonderful options but decided to expand our horizons a bit and try something new. You'll hear Ana even before you see her if she's in the back, as she and Akira will greet you from the kitchen area with a cheery "hellooooo!" They both embody Japanese culture with their sincere service and kind disposition. We were in Japan last May, and interacting with them reminded us of why we loved our trip so much. Hubs and I both ordered the plates: "chicken" and "beef", along with the corn soup (him) and miso (me) and rice. Both soups were lovely, and we were anticipating the main course. I should preface what I'm about to write with a disclaimer: we ate everything on our plate. It's not that the food was bad, it just wasn't memorable. It also felt like something I could have made at home: two or three pieces of steamed broccoli/cauliflower; a patty (smothered with sauce) and a cup of rice. This meal was 17$. I think that Ana and Akira have their hearts in the right place. And I'm convinced that their place is alive mostly because of them and their passion for what they do. I hope they will consider getting a bit more creative with their menu (they could see what the uber-popular Seabirds Kitchen does, for example) and I suspect they'd have people lining up out the door. Also, this location in HB isn't doing them any favors. Still, I wish them well and would go back to try another dish at another time when I'm in the neighborhood again. Arigato gozaimasu! read more
