There are over 350 chocolate flavors and more than 90 Gelato flavors. All are made from fresh milk and are very rich. However, I personally think they are a bit too sweet. I once queued up for a long time to try it in Shanghai, but the taste was just so-so. The same thing happened in Shenzhen. I didn't believe the rumors and came to try it again. We chose three flavors for 9.9 yuan, which was the best value for money. But because it was too sweet, we felt very sickly sweet and didn't want to eat much after a few bites. There were also chocolate samples in the store. I tried a pistachio flavor, which was also just okay. But the store's environment and decoration are very upscale. NOT WORTH IT. I went with my bf recently and ordered a 3 scoop cone and they served us the SMALLEST scoops I've ever seen. No freaking way other people get that much ice cream when we got a little more than a couple tablespoons per flavor. They also did not greet us when we came in, and did not instruct us to enter a certain line so we were standing directly right in front of them for about 10 minutes confused. A family came in after us and went in front of the cash register and they served them immediately. Still no acknowledgement of us until we followed behind that family. I have a new obsession! I was at the mall with my sister and nephew and my sister wanted to stop here. I had never heard of it! Well that changed and so did my love of gelato. I have always liked gelato but Venchi is quite special! I went with raspberry and Chocovair. I usually try to stay away from a lot of lactose and was happy they had many flavors of dairy free. However, they were out of the dairy free chocolate so I asked for a small amount of the chocovair to try and it was amazing! If you love dark chocolate, your mind will be blown. Both flavors have an extraordinary amount of flavor and are amazing! The cones are in a league of their own. You get to choose flavors for that too and it gets topped with a piece of chocolate! Yes, the prices are a little high but the quality is truly amazing! I am hooked. They also have lots of chocolates in store and I got a few pieces to try. Well, I came home and did an order of chocolates on their website because it is truly the best I have ever had. I love dark chocolate and their options of dark chocolate are vast and plentiful. What I love is that you can have just one piece to satisfy your sweet tooth. It's not like some chocolate where you keep going back. It could be the price so mentally I don't want to eat a lot or it could be the quality but it is pretty darn close to perfect! If you are an early bird like me after brunch (around 11-12 AM) will be the best time to skip the long line. Very cute Gelato Cone decor makes you want to come in and take a picture. And yeh, it tastes like iced truffles or mousse cakes very smooth, it's a bit sticky yet not too soft and doesn't have chewy texture. I had the Cremino and the Strawberry Chocolate one, it was awesome, just what you would look for in a perfect Gelato. FYI, it melts fast, if you don't want to risk it walking outside they also have tables to sit down while you stare at their chocolate wall of fame. Getting a cup is also a great idea. As soon as it opened, there was a really long line. The chewy, stretchy gelato had me swallowing my saliva several times while waiting. There are many options to choose from, and the more options you add, the more your gelato price exceeds $10. If you love gelato or ice cream, I highly recommend trying it at least once. However, since it's pricey for regular visits, make sure to add all the options you want and enjoy it to the fullest when you do visit. Haha. Customer service needs to be improved. Management and protocol needs to change. Employees are trying to make patrons decide on the size, cones, and charge patrons for gelato before sampling. There was a huge line for gelato, but the place is adequately staffed so the wait wasn't too bad. Gelato flavors behind the glass is a little different that what's listed on the menu. It looked like they had more options in store than on their actual menu so you'll have to be there to really see all the flavors. We tried a few different flavors and many of them were delicious, so it was hard to make our choices. In the end, we decided on a strawberry stracciatella and the flavor of the month called autumn essence. Yum! Gelato wasn't overly sweet. The chocolate they put on top is okay. Such a cute and fun experience! One side of the shop is for gelato while the other side is for chocolate. So make sure you read the signs to get in the appropriate line. Gelato is upwards of $7 for a scoop so it does feel a bit steep but each additional scoop is only slightly more expensive. If you're with a friend, I would just pay for a 2 scoop and ask for an extra cup/spoon. You pay for how many scoops you want before reaching the tasting area, where you can try as many flavors as you want! They top off your gelato with a chocolate as well. Pretty good gelato! This place is unique in that it is divided into their chocolate store and the ice cream shop. Their line gets long but I think they are efficient at helping customers. I just had the best experience purchasing from the chocolatier side of Venchi in UTC. Carlos, Anna, and Maryanne were so sweet and helpful in wrapping all 9 of my individual custom boxes. I purchased these as gifts and was thrilled to be able to buy the cute book boxes separately and customize each with personally selected chocolates. While it is a bit pricey, the quality and presentation are 100% worth it. The customer service was amazing, and they were so nice despite the process being a bit lengthy. I was in La Jolla with family last weekend and randomly strolled into Venchi, not knowing until now it opened just 3 days prior! (What?!) I tried the gianduia and pistachio, and bought a lot more of the various flavors. The chocolate is smooth and silky and no trace of bitterness, which is why I'm not usually a dark chocolate fanatic. But I'm in love with Venchi. Daniela who works in the shop is extremely knowledgeable. If you want to put together a custom box, like what I did as a gift for my dad, ask for her. She knows every flavor and will help you make the best gift. I was literally like a kid in a candy shop. All of the other employees were equally sweet and very helpful, like they really care about your experience. One guy who gave me a sample waited with open eyes about my reaction to the flavor lol! Times past when I've walked by this establishment at UTC, I've tended to see pretty long lines and so I mentally noted it as a place to try out eventuallly--today was that day (and it wasn't super busy, there was not the usual line (the time was 4:40ish))! Folks working behind the counter were welcoming; Venus in particular was especially kind and also knowledgeable, suggesting different gelato combinations that would pair well. One is able to sample various flavors, which is something I really appreciate being able to do as a customer: being able to try the product before committing to a flavor, or two, or three. I ended up feeling conflicted when having to make a selection because I found all the flavors I tasted to be quite delicious! I had the pistachio and mango; I'm not someone who would usually opt for pistachio , but its flavor was delicious. If I remember correctly, Venus mentioned that this is a flavor that they are well known for. The mango flavor tasted very much like the real deal, not artificial whatsoever. In general, gelato tends to be on the pricier side in comparison to ice cream or yogurt, but I always find it to be worth the price for its quality and taste. I usually get my fix of gelato in Little Italy, but it looks like I won't have to venture too far south for it! there is a LOT of hype around this international business coming to the U.S. with one of the two locations being in san diego!! as you can assume, the line was SUPER long out the door at all times!! they have a beautiful process of creating your customized ice cream and lots of amazing flavors to choose from. the ice creams are pretty good (i recommend sampling them first) but the gelatos were what really stood out to me. they are extremely rich and flavorful, definitely try!!! my one thing i didn't like especially as someone with a hazelnut allergy was both their chocolate coatings around the cone were made with them and they have no alternative option. you can get it without the chocolate but that's part of the fun so, maybe something to add onto their menu for the future! overall very good, but definitely way too pricey for what you get, they really make you pay for the ambiance and experience. read more
